welcome everybody
to our pre-pacer
gathering
schmooze party there's a lot of good
things happening tonight besides the
regular
laws of pesach and the schmooze about
pesach
we have as you see
our talented
cousin duffy
and the talented
toten
rabbi
with his guitar to entertain us and get
us involved and get us warmed up
get us warmed up for the upcoming happy
holiday of pesach
and also we have something very special
tonight
that our good friend sal
shemesh is making you see him tonight
now eseem means
that if one finishes a message tractate
a portion of the gemara
that's considered a great
uh reason to celebrate
and uh he finished i think seth mcgill
is it
seth macgillar yeah
so that's really a very very uh
important
milestone in his life
and when the person likes to see him he
makes a celebration for everybody that
he invites to to see him
so very uh touched that you chose us to
make the scene over here
reveal it should be a metlife stadium
to make to see him because
why not everybody makes it seem should
go to metlife but
to keep things a little more toned down
before pacer could decide we'll make it
over here instead of the next one you'll
make in metlife stadium okay how many
hundred thousand people that's the way
it really should be
so i think that you'll at the when we
finish
that's when you'll uh at about 9 30 i
guess around then to make the scene
right
okay
now to go into a few of the laws of
pesach
as i promised last week we have here
monday which is before pesach
we have to stop eating comments we don't
wait till the night time like most
holidays the holiday starts at night
time
but when it comes to past second
comments we stopped eating comets the
day before which will be
uh this coming monday
and the time to stop eating comments
is 10 58. so 18 seconds over here but
we're not going to talk about seconds
10 58
a.m
this coming
monday morning we must
refrain from eating any more comments
and the burning of the comments which we
mentioned last week
remember that we have to search for the
comments the night before
sunday night we go around the house with
the candle
looking for comets whatever we find we
put away
and whatever comments is left the next
day
is burned
unless we sell it to a non-jew which is
sold put
different part of the house
whatever we found
with our search the ten pieces we put
around or the other comments that we
found with the search with the candle
must be burned by 12 o'clock
p.m 12 at noon
monday so the end of eating is 10 58 and
the burning must be done by 12 o'clock
noon
on monday
so uh
that's where
you come in
with the men going around collecting all
the uh comets on the streets the people
burned them and they have to collect it
up afterwards
so that's a big mitzvah to burn the
comets and then we say call kamira
the special words that any accomplice
that we have in our possession that we
didn't find should be null and void
and
relinquish our
ownership on any compass that we have
those are the times for
eating and burning comets
it's a mitzvah
as we know to drink four cups of wine
both say to knights
and if possible it should be wine not
grape juice
unless somebody
can't drink wine
second best is grape juice
and it's a mitzvah for the wine to be
read
uh one reason because red is either for
the blood
of them that was spilled of the jewish
children
the king decided that he had a bad rash
so his doctors told him that if he
breathes in the blood
it'll be a cure for him so he took the
jewish babies and
slaughtered them and bathed in their
blood
nice guy
pirate and
remember remembrance of that terrible
thing we use red wine
and wine in general is considered red
is considered the best kind of wine so
if we have red wine
we should use that rather than
white wine or yellow wine
and also instead of grape juice if
possible
we know about the blood libels that were
practiced
in the last few hundred years
in europe even in america there's a
blood libel i don't know if you really
realize that
that
they make all kinds of crazy accusations
that the jews have to take some
non-jewish blood and put it into matters
and the jews suffered from that so much
for that lie
that people started
talking about them
and
if
there is any type of suspicion that
somebody's going to come up with a blood
libel
that don't use the red wine because if
it's red they'll say oh there's blood in
the wine that's kind of crazy kind of
accusations that they have
in new york i understand i forget which
mayor was empowered and maybe somebody
remembers
that
he
also got into the
craziness the jews might be using
non-jewish blood for the matzos for the
wines they told people be careful watch
your children but peso time it was a
terrible thing that he uh he gave into
it but
yeah yeah in new york one of the mayor
of new york and i don't i forget which
major it was that he uh
he uh also got talked into michigan
and uh naturally he's saying that it
really got people scared
the person knows some outstanding mayor
of new york i met
for the rain the bitter herbs a bit of
vegetable that we have to eat
pace at night the different uh
traditions of what to use
some people use horseradish
which is really
very
difficult to eat
especially if you don't grate it
even if it's grated it's also difficult
to eat because it's so strong powerful
if a person
wants to
insist on eating horseradish maybe that
was the tradition in this family
what could be done is to be graded
before
and spread around a little bit for the
uh
bitterness and the sharpness to be
dissipated from the horseradish
but a person can use
different types of romaine lettuce
that is available and certainly much
easier to eat than horseradish
but the problem of having in a
little tiny tiny worms the problem has
to be washed out very carefully
with salt water just not to soak it long
in salt water because that'll make it
invalid but just for a short time
because they sell
the lettuce today it comes with the
hatcher on it that was pre-washed and
pre-cleaned and pre-checked before
naturally that's the best thing today to
do
instead of doing it by yourself but if
you want to do it by yourself to be very
careful
to
wash it thoroughly and hold up to light
and see that there's no
foreign objects in in the in the lettuce
there's so many laws i'm just going
through a few of them
highlights
the
mitzvah
of the night
in this time of golos
is the terror law is mata
the time of the
holy temple was standing
the torah
the corbin pessah called the paschal
lamb
and to eat the matzah and the more
they're all torah laws today the only
torah law that's left is matzah itself
the moral today is also a rabbinical law
the sacrifice itself we don't have today
so we have to be careful
that the matzah should be eaten
according to
the
laws of the torah
it has to be a certain amount
eaten within a certain amount of time
you just can't take one bite of matzo
and say i fulfill the mitzvah matzah
there has to be a certain
measurement of masa that we have to eat
some people are more strict about it
makes me less strict about it
but uh
to uh fulfill the mitzvah
in that at least
in the way that
it could be fulfilled
in the most simple way
if you take a piece of matzah which will
be eight inches by four inches
has to be shmuramatsu don't forget it
can't be the regular matzah from the box
because there are some sugar mats in the
box too but mostly i hope everybody got
the round monsters we sent around to
everybody
sometimes told me today they're all
smashed into into smithereens anybody at
the whole monster say in the mail where
they hold
didn't open it yet i got a call today
from somebody the elder masters were
matzo meal it came with plenty got it in
the mail i hope it didn't help everybody
else anybody opened up the box of matzos
anybody
didn't open up yet they opened four
pesos don't wait to the state and make
sure that you have whole mattresses
so to be used the round mattress that we
spoke about that it's the uh
it's been watched from the time
of the
not time even cutting before the cutting
you have to make sure that when it gets
ripe that no water gets on it even when
it's still connected to the ground
and uh that amount of matter should be
eaten within
as soon as
as fast as you can eat it certainly not
more than nine minutes that eight by
four within nine minutes better if you
ate it faster than that
but it should not be eaten in the in in
less than in more than nine minutes
that piece of matzo
and the murrah
also a nice leaf of morrow to take
to be eaten as soon as possible as fast
as possible and the koi
we make the sandwich with the two piece
of mass on both sides and the more in
the middle also
that amount of matzah with a nice big
leaf of lettuce
or
a
ball of
moru that's
the uh what we call the horseradish if
you make a ball out of it should be
as big as a half an egg at least as big
as a third of an egg
to eat it by itself and then put it
within the sandwich
all to be eaten as soon as possible
otherwise not considered
a mitzvah if we take too much time to
eat it and there's not enough to be
eaten
okay those are some of the highlights of
the laws of pesos there's so many more
laws but i want to bring out the point
also
that we start another mitzvah the second
night of pesach
we start another mitzvah
of counting the ulmer
and we count every night from the second
out of pesach 49 days 49 nights until
shavuous
when the terror was given
so a lot of people get so involved with
all the other mitsubishi of peso they're
not thinking about the other mitzvahs
but we should not forget
to start counting the umer
the second night of pesach and try to
remember to count every night afterwards
for 49
straight consecutive nights afterwards
and now we're coming to
our
schmooze
exciting
gems from the will keep us awake
it's not easy to stay awake the whole
night especially if you eat drink that
wine we're talking about
and the clock is sticking on
so if things are exciting
then we can stay awake so try to make a
little bit exciting
so we'd like
what oh you know where the names were
white uber means stay awake you have to
say
you have to be awake yeah but we uh
guaranteed we
well they give you a cap at the end of
the state holiday okay
huh so
in order to get us into the mood of
being
excited
and awake
we'll ask our
guitar token rabbi rabbi kai musha
which we appreciate him coming so much
and a great cousin duffy which
appreciates so much coming tonight to
get us into the mood see we get so awake
tonight
they'll keep us going and they can't
stay awake the whole time until then but
i mean they'll give us the in the mood
of
the time pastor comes and the satan will
be so alive and so full of vigor
enthusiasm there won't be a problem to
stay awake
so
as we always start off that we thank god
we're able to we lived until this great
occasion
of being able to live through the great
holiday of of the fulfill the great
holiday of pesach
give it thanks to hashem
we say unto our kids
and tonight we'll
we'll sing it and play it in order to
feel it
that we're thanking god
that we're alive and we still have our
faculties we still have our brains our
the power to think know what's going on
and it brings us with that great night
of pesach and this great night of
pre-pesach so we'll ask them to please
honor us and
entertain us and
bring us up to a great level of
spirituality but they're singing
you can sing along if you want
um
oh
the
my
a
foreign
is
oh
no
isn't it good to have some w back
if we had these people i say they sure
wouldn't fall asleep
well the first
item
on our glossary sheet
is something that that should be enough
to keep us awake
for the whole night for sure
this is a quote
from the zohar
now the zohar is the
book
of the
kabbalah
of the secrets of the torah
and
certain things we can't understand so
easily except people that are well worse
well versed in kabbalah but certain
things are more understandable
and this that shows out
and it's brought down by many of the
great commentaries on the haggadah
because the words are aramaic they're
not hebrew because the slovak was
written in aramaic which is very similar
to hebrew
and it says quoting the word kanesh
it should be
the holy one blessed be he
god
gathers together
all the angels of his palace
whatever that means
and
he
points out to them
and he says to them
look
at what my
children are doing tonight the night of
pesach
that they are saying the haggadah
and
re-remembering
what happened in egypt
3000 years ago over three thousand years
ago
and they're praising me
and we're having a very good
relationship together
so imagine that god's
by everybody cider that means not one
person say to some place in israel or
australia
wherever we are making a seder
if it's made the right way according to
following the steps of the goda
god comes to everybody satan with his
whole angels from his whole palace and
so proud
of the jewish people making the seder
tonight
so if we keep that in mind
it certainly is a very very stimulating
idea and thought and action from hashem
from god
to show his great love for the jewish
people
great closest to us
that uh that we're
relating to our children and to
everybody around us
and getting into it feeling it and
enjoying it and appreciating it
the whole say tonight of the whole exit
that's going out of egypt
so that's the number one exciting point
that we could keep in mind to keep us
awake
another point
because there's so much and i got to
talk about we could stay here for days
and nights and days and nights but just
took out a few
highlights
that are
i've considered exciting
exciting whether they're in in our uh
our feelings
in our emotions
or exciting in our thoughts in our
intellect
we start off
which is
said also in aramaic interesting the
whole god is in hebrew
but there's two places there make the
first beginning of the god is aramaic
and the last
god
the last song anybody happens to be up
at that time not sleeping yet the last
words of the haggadah are aramaic also
so this
the reason being because the hola goda
was made for the people living in the
land of israel they spoke hebrew
but
was not said in inertia
said golus when they went into buffalo
into babylonians into the golus that's
when they said
so that egolos they spoke aramaic
but
there's a big question on this these
words
this is the poor bread that our fathers
ate in the land of egypt
now if you have somebody even a little
child going to cater going to hebrew
school ask him why do we eat matzon
pesach he'll tell you because of the
great miracle that happened that god
goes out of egypt so quickly
that they have a chance for their doubt
to rise so they had to break it right
away
that's what anybody tell you how good
that says that later as a matter of fact
god itself says that
what does that mean
showing the freedom
the exodus
the freedom of jewish people had such a
quick
leaving of egypt they didn't even have
time to break their eyes
they leave so fast
is a sign of freedom
of joy of happiness
all of a sudden
this is the poor bread
that our fathers ate in the land of
egypt what is the poor bread
it's a total contradiction to what mata
is all about all of a sudden it's poor
bread
that they ate when did they eat that
bread when they went out of egypt it's
poor bread
the answer is
that mata
people don't realize it
matzah was not introduced to the jewish
people when they left egypt
matzah somebody ate when they were
slaves in the land of egypt the reason
being because
the same reason why
we talk about leaving and not having a
chance to leaven the same thing
when they had to go to work the task
masters would
knock on the door and take their whips
and get out to work
early in the morning
so if they wanted to make bread they had
to make it real fast
they couldn't wait till elevens
you know when you make kalo you make
bread you have to let it rise and you
have to wait they couldn't wait they had
no time they put flour water together
mixed it up put in the oven
matzah that's what they ate all the
years when they're in egypt
as the poor bread
this is the master in the middle that we
break in half to show that the only poor
person doesn't even have a whole piece
of bread
piece of bread
so this matzah is symbolizing
a neo symbolizing poorness affliction
pain suffering
so mata that means has two
sides to it
it has a side of affliction and pain
and inside of it of
freedom and happiness
wonder egypt
that they ate in the land of egypt
this is the poor but they ate all the
years
and the same matzah
the same
reason for being matter because of
the quickness and how fast it had to be
baked
is a sign of freedom
it's no coincidence
that
it has both things to it both sides to
it
very similar to what we spoke about the
last few weeks if you remember about
uh
pain and suffering
we're talking about verbena yoiner
that god gives pain and suffering to
people in order to wake them up
and to better themselves and become
better people
you have to have their attitude to pain
and suffering
from pain and suffering can come out
great things
that's what was showing with the matzah
that the
being in the land of egypt for those
years and suffering and working and
toiling
brought them
into
the
level
of being able to accept the torah
that's the main purpose for going to
egypt
because in order to make them in more of
a
spiritual
people not into mundane kashmir this
world and all of its mundane earthly
physical features that it has
they were slaves and they had very
little
and they got to be more spiritual people
not into this world
not into all the physical mundane down
to earth
features of the world but they became
much more
intellectual people
being satisfied with what they had with
very little
and that is what brought them to the
happiness of the exodus on the way to
receive the torah of mount sinai that
was the purpose of the whole thing
so
the mata that we're eating has two sides
to it
and one brings to the next
the side of the matzah the idea of
the poor bread that they ate
that is what brought them eventually to
leave with the same kind of matzah and
this time the matzah was a happy matzah
since they left so quickly they didn't
have a chance to make it in egypt there
was a sad matzah because they have a
chance to make it because
they were driven by their task masters
but when they left
that's the same reason why it's matzah
was a happy
reason for it that they had to leave
right away to get away from all the
suffering of the pain but one
causes the other thing to happen that's
what we have to think about in our daily
lives when we have difficulties
and pain sometimes or suffering
sometimes
like we spoke about the last few weeks
we have to have the right attitude to
realize it's coming from god it's not
happening by itself
and it's supposed to bring us to a
higher level
of greatness spirituality
so this is something to think about
which is a
i call it a very exciting intellectual
idea
number three
this is the answer to the four questions
and the question is
how does this answer the four questions
the question is why we matzah why we eat
more
why we dip in twice why are we leaning
tonight
and they say we're slaves to power in
egypt how does that tell us why we're
eating matzah why we need more
why was leaning why are we dipping in
twice
and the different answers how we explain
this
i i didn't mention we i guess everybody
noticed the sheets over here for the
selling of the comments we hope
everybody will take advantage of it
those who didn't do until now to take
the sheet to fill it out and we will
take care of selling comments for peso
a very important idea
is being
told over to the children who are asking
the manuscript
a very important fundamental idea in
judaism is being brought forth with this
answer with these words
pyro
the
mighty king may be the mightiest king in
the world at the time
we know kings in those times were not
like a president today they were all
powerful
whatever they said goes
you can't argue
they can't
discuss
what the king says that is it
no discussion
and no going back on it
it has to be
right
once they sent out the letters you can't
take it back anymore once the king says
something
so we tell our children to tell
ourselves
we're asking questions
asking questions
god said to do it if god said to do it
we shouldn't question him
we know he tells us things even though
we don't understand
some of the laws we don't understand
many of the laws are
called statutes laws without any reason
of course there's a reason god knows the
reason
people who study very deeply can know
the reason
but
in the meantime we don't have to
understand everything in the torah
some people say well why does the torah
say this so why did tara say that why
does he can't eat you can't eat pig why
can't you eat it it's delicious a very
good food why can't you eat seafood why
not what's wrong with it
you say well god's the king
he said don't eat it
don't question it
just like the king of egypt
gave a decree
everybody realized
that he is smarter than everybody else
that's why he's the king he has his
cabinet he has his advisors he has his
people
they give out decrees maybe not the
masses don't understand the reason for
these laws doesn't mean they don't make
any sense maybe don't percent don't
don't make sense to the masses to the
plain person on the street but the
intellectuals are the king and his
advisers then they know why they made
these these laws these
so you tell a child you have questions
you have to realize
what god says you don't have to question
you accept it
after you accept it
naturally we delve into reasons of
things
god wants us to think
and to reason and to ask and to answer
and to
discuss
that something we don't accept
judaism as a
that's it
god said so and we don't have to look
any
further no that's the initially
the basic
acceptance of the torah nasa that goes
to jews said nasa venice but we're going
to do it later we understand it once
it's done he wants us to delve into it
and understand
and and and get as much out of it as
possible that our everybody's
intellectual is able to grasp
but initially
we are supposed to accept it because god
said so whatever the reason he knows why
that's the first thing once we accept it
and we're going to
fulfill his command
so then we can start doubling into it
understanding the reasons for it
so we have to have both but the first
reaction
to god's command is i accept it i
understand i don't understand it makes
no difference now that i accepted it
let's sit down and try to understand it
god wants us to delve into it
everybody's studying the gomorrah the
talmud we know nothing is accepted
nothing is they just say well that's it
it's discussed and argued and thrown
back and forth
and and and and
delved into in the deepest way possible
we don't accept things
and just say it makes no difference to
reason no we have to understand it but
the initial acceptance has to be without
any questions so we say to the children
you're asking questions
first you have to know god said so eat
matzah eat matzo eat more eat more
dip in twice
what's the difference with the reason
we're not interested in the reason we're
interested right now to do it now after
we do we accept it now we're interested
in understanding why
so that's
a very important idea to be given over
to our children and to ourselves
to
realize
what the laws of the torah are all about
maybe we could have some a little more
entertainment now
all right
is
now
people like mr
ah
oh
i
oh
m
oh
is
oh
is
he's not here
three
oh
then he said
uh
beautiful
the next point
which i'd like to bring out
is we say
in the haggadah
that three things are vital to talk
about
even though the god is pretty long
but three things are vital to discuss
we know
that it's called the carbon pesach
means according to rashi
skipping over
that when god went to
kill the firstborn of the egyptians he
skipped over the houses of the jews
and he did not touch them did not
kill them but he did so to the firstborn
of the egyptians that's what passage
called the carbon pesach
but really
the
corbin pessah has a little more history
to it
that the jewish people were commanded
to take
that
animal
four days before
they're going to slaughter it
as a carbon as a sacrifice to take to
god
and check it over for four days before
to make sure it has no blemishes
now the
animal the set
that they
were preparing for this sacrifice
the lamb
the sheep
was the god of the egyptians
and if you realize that
the egyptians worshiped
this lamb just like today we had the
hindus and the whole
worship the holy cow the word holy cow
comes home because there are people
according to some sources this is the
started in egypt with the lamb and that
went over to the cow which is
a little similar to a cow
they still worship it today but in egypt
that was the avodah that was their idol
worship was was the lamb
and god told the jewish people take that
lamb and that
the sheep
and
show them
the egyptians
that
we don't believe in this this is
ridiculous it's not a god
and
slaughter it
as a sacrifice to god to the one god of
the jewish people out of the world
so when the egyptians asked the jewish
people
what are you doing with that lamb why
are you taking it before they tell we're
going to shake it we're going to
slaughter it to our god
and the egyptians were burning with
anger but they couldn't do anything
normally they they killed him they
stopped him what are you doing
you're going to take our god and
slaughter for your god
who do you think you are you're in our
country you are slaves
but the jewish people
listened to god's commandment
and they put their lives on the line
and they said
it's just what they're supposed to say
we're taking this to make it as a
sacrifice
to the god of the jewish people
and that happened to be on shabbos
the first time they took it four days
before it was in shabbos that's what we
call this coming shabbos called shabbos
the great chambers special name once a
year the shops before pastor called
hashabas the great shabbos
great shabbos was because the great
action the great belief the jews had in
hashem and god
that they took the lamb they told the
egyptians we're going to slaughter it
for a god and they weren't afraid
and the egyptians couldn't do anything
to them was a big miracle god just held
them back they couldn't do anything they
were angry they were burning they wanted
to
do something they couldn't do anything
so this is something that we
have to think about
in our times the same way
that there are many temptations out in
the street
and many all different kinds of
philosophies
and all kinds of
ways of life people have
and contrary to jewish thought to jewish
life
and we have to
be strong and stand up to it even though
we are not in our own land we're in
gallus
but just like the jews then
they were in a strange land they were in
gallus but they stood up for what's
right
they didn't say well we're in those
strange land we better start up with
them we better cooperate with them and
go along with them with their ideas
they were thrown they stood up for
what's right they put lives on the line
you got to do what's right and not to do
to to fall into the melting pot what
everybody's doing so we got to do two
and that's something we have to apply to
our daily lives
that
we
are jewish people
we have artoria we have our
god
we have our ideas
we have our mitzvahs our commandments
and we don't have to
be influenced by our surroundings
we have to stick up and live according
to the way we're supposed to live and
not be afraid and not be influenced in
any way
from the outside from the street
from the internet
from the publications from the papers
from the tv whatever
all kinds of
influence of them bombarding us from day
to the time we get up to the time we go
to sleep at night we have all kinds of
ideas contrary to jewish ideas that
we're being exposed to on a regular
basis
and many people fall trap to it many
people give into it and they become very
neutralized jewish people they're not
strong
standing up for what judaism is all
about and this is one of the lessons we
learned from the government
to excite us to think about that night
tonight i take upon myself just like the
jews then stood up for what's right
didn't care what the egyptians are going
to do what they're going to say we got
to do what we got to do what god says
that's how i've committed myself tonight
to pesach to do what's right everybody
in their own
particular circumstances some people are
living in the non-jewish neighborhood
some people have non-jewish
co-workers
some people even the yeshiva
they have influences that are not so
great many times that they shouldn't
give into from the most pious to the
most unaffiliated we're always facing
influences contrary to jewish life and
thought and we have to live up to what's
right
so i think that maybe now uh we could
take some questions maybe continue with
this later like last week we finished
that at the end but maybe some i think
some good questions to ask
anybody
good online questions maybe we'll start
with those wait
well there's somebody here you have to
send up over here oh
okay
especially since we have to see him we
can ask everybody to keep it just the
questions
rabbi firstly i want to thank you for
the
passover package we received
that was very nice of you
rabbi our pleasure
thank you uh rabbi was there a family
life during the period that we were
slaves in other words was there family
were there children born
or anything like that
well that's a good question
they had their family life
and
as a matter of fact
the
families were pure
and there's no outside
uh
men and women
living together
they stuck to their husbands and to
their wives
except for one woman who was raped they
couldn't help it
but otherwise the families were pure and
holy and the children
were the children of the mother and the
father of jewish of jewish origin
at one period
the
men
wanted to stop having children
because
the children were being
killed murdered
stuffed into the walls thrown into the
water
and they decided this is ridiculous why
are we having children for
if they're just being murdered and
killed all the time and they wanted to
stop having children
and the jewish women were against that
had led by miriam
and
they said no
that we have to go on and have faith in
hashem in god
it is not going to go on forever you
know with a certain
amount of years the jewish people have
to stay in golos but that's going to be
over sooner or later we have to have
children to keep the jewish nation going
and they went out and they
prevailed
and they started having children again
and but there was serious
thoughts of of we should should we have
family life normal and should we have
children because of the uh
the terrible uh
pain and and suffering that they're
going through and the murdering that was
going on the children of the people
but uh it was decided that we have to go
on and
we'd have to do ours and god would do
his and that's what happened at the end
that they had a whole nation that went
out of egypt they didn't stop
multiplying
they were also slaves definitely swims
also slaves as a matter of fact part of
the uh
suffering is they used to make men do
women's work and women do men's work
that was part of putting them down and
taking away their uh the pride just like
the germans did that type of thing with
that to knock people down as much as you
can and and feel bad about themselves
and
lose their self-respect
so but the women were also enslaved yes
we have a question from online
how were we jews
because we're discussing how the jews
were slaves in egypt and how the jews
went down to egypt and we're slaves
there how were we jews before we got the
torah
well
the main answer to that question is
that god made a schwa and a
promise and a commitment of
to abraham
since abraham
lived up
to what god wanted in the world nobody
else did since the great flood
nobody took up for god's
sake for god's cause until i remember
abraham
and he went out into the world and put
his life on the line
and he preached
to everybody
the ridiculousness of idol worship
and there's only one god
and we should
live by his laws the seven outlaws
and he uh
fought for god's name
he put his life on the line for god's
name and god said since you did that i'm
making a covenant with you
treating with you
that from now on
you and your children will be my people
and uh even though i didn't have the
torah yet but they had the promise of
god's torah promise of god's people
means they will eventually get the torah
seven generations afterwards
from rome to moshe albania to moses with
seven generations so they had that
promise
of being god's people and they will
eventually accept the torah so that's
what made them jews
and besides that in egypt we know that
they kept their identity very strong
they didn't change their names
didn't change from goldberg to uh to
macarthur they kept the name goldberg
and they didn't change the way of dress
they dressed like jews and
they did not
change their language they kept the
jewish the hebrew that they spoke the
whole time so they kept their identity
very strongly in egypt to show that the
jews they kept their names in the way of
dress and their language so these things
kept them as a uh
as a nation that they were different
from the their task masters and the
people who oppressed them
rabbi so it sounds like
hashem had this plan of
making the jews suffer as sort of an
awakening and i think you've been kind
of teaching us that as you know as as
the weeks have been going
and
suffering as it has the power to
uh purify a person and make person more
holy and more
uh outstanding more special
it's not the intellectual part of
teaching and
waking us up to do the right thing but
also pain in itself has a power of
of uh of purifying
so my question is
what you know with their specific events
now i understand that this is what
hashem wanted to do but would were there
specific events that led us to
physically become slaves i mean does
this go back to joseph
uh you know being in egypt and then
uh you know sort of generations later
something happened that we became slaves
how did it kind of turn from that well
the beginning of the
idea of being slaved in egypt came to
abraham avraham avinu
when he fell asleep and had his prophecy
dream
and
god told him that your children
will be enslaved let's say egypt at that
time he's into a certain nation
and they're going to suffer from years
and then they will go out
and they will go out with the great uh
with great raku with great uh
wealth
wealth in
physical terms and wealth in spiritual
terms
so this was
predestined from the time of abraham
when he had that
that navoor that prophecy dream that god
told him about the whole future of
that gullus and all the ghosts coming
afterwards
all the exiles babylonia whether it was
the time of the mordecai whether it's at
the time of adam or the romans what
we're living today all these
all these uh
goliaths all of these exiles the aspara
were already the predestined from before
so was this knowledge the knowledge of
this dream was that passed on yes yes
the jewish people knew they could
continue sooner or later they have to go
go through this thank you
okay another online question my husband
was born sephardic i was born ashkenazi
and attended this attended a sephardic
synagogue since my marriage are my
children and grandchildren sephardic
rashkinazak
your husband is fired she's ashkenazi
and she with this fighting shield suit
well you should go according to the
husband and the husband as you go
according to what he is
some people for some reason might change
over but the uh
for
for some kind of might move into a uh
ashkenazic uh community they want to be
different or as fine as it's asking so
it's a fighting community we find people
like that but the general rule is you go
according to the tuition tradition of
the husband the father of the family
okay another question from online
um this came from
somebody had their hand up
i'm sorry
thank you
something else if i want to make a gala
what
a gala you say a gala
yeah it's a question
no no no no
okay this is from a new torah mate who's
learning with a recent convert
she wants to know how to explain to her
how to relate
to avadham hayno and the concept of our
forefathers coming out of egypt
if the converts forefathers in fact did
not
go through the exodus from egypt
so a convert how can they
be
say
sit down by the seder and talk about the
uh the exodus of egypt if they didn't
something not go out of egypt
well that's a great question
uh
we know
that uh avraham avinu
is considered
he's the father of all
future gayrim
that are going to come out of the jewish
people
so uh
we
look at every
person who
converts to judaism like part of our
nation
because alvaro vino is considered the
father of all those people who convert
so therefore we accept him in all ways
that he's considered like our brothers
and our sisters and part of the jewish
nation
the same question arises how do we talk
about uh avoid them we weren't about
them ourselves
uh
thousands of years ago they were voting
we weren't we were about them at that
time but since we're part of the jewish
nation they're all one nation
so look at it as we were avoiding we
were part of that nation so now to the
convert because it says but same
question is uh people today how can they
uh
merciacus and how can they
feel
that
we went out of egypt
thousands of years ago but we say but
well one nation and therefore we look at
our grandfathers great grandfathers look
at ourselves
as
we were in egypt and we went out as a
nation and we are part of one
nation together every person who becomes
jewish
since he becomes like the son of
afravino he's part of this nation so he
also looks at it as if i'm part of it i
want to i'm part of that whatever
happened to them happened to me it's all
the same thing just like the children
today whatever happened to them to us
because we're all one we're all one
family so therefore
we look at it as as as as that person is
was always part of the jewish nation as
far as he's concerned right now
just like every every person today is
part of that nation
so it's like you have a family that
some somebody was in the in the
concentration camp
so people coming a descendants from them
had feeling more of a connection to that
person because even they weren't in the
confrontation camp but they hear the
stories that what their grandfather went
through it makes a certain uh kinship to
that person that uh
that
we're all one family and he went he went
he went through it feels like we're all
well part of that family we feel more of
a
of a pain that somebody else feels since
we were part of the family so the pain
of the jewish people as one nation we
feel the pain of the nation so that
person becomes jewish
is part of the nation he can also feel
that pain
he feels like he has a torah as the
missus everything else and so we come
all one nation together
oh so when we owned by the seam now
okay
so sal is going to
do the great
uh mitzvah by finishing him
how long does it take to learn how many
how many how long have you taken about
that
a year a whole year wow the whole year
and it's really very
trying to make it easier
we're very proud that we have a person
like sal here who
studies torah every day it's great
also i want to thank rabbi means that he
gave me the opportunity to end the
massacre with him over here from
everybody
and you already means we respect you
highly respect you
and
rabbi means is
he doing everything for everybody
he helped many people to go to come
closer to hashem
through touching torah and helping them
donate both
many boys and girls have a hard time
adjusting
in yeshivas
and the scholars send them to public
school
to rescue them
and bring them back to jewish
school
and the jewish world
in jeff s
eighth grader they asked him
what do you want to be when you grow up
say i i want to become rabbi means
it's true story everybody must know
about it right
different than everybody most of the
people i think that i know in my life
because i think he's very close to
hashem
when hashem what he provided us
everything he gave us and he gave us
where we ask from us only to learn torah
to do the mitzvot the same thing rabbi
means
he constantly give many people
in their own look to take
and by means look for ways to give
one time
somebody
that arrow
on friday night
in the family
and they had a baby that the baby was
crying suffering
and
the family don't know what to do
and to rescue them to the hospital
or
to keep shabbat
and all the family like six people
bringing the boy from one hand to other
hand to help them
about four o'clock in the morning this
boy would get up he say now i understand
right by means
look at me what they have to do
is say yes
you see how many people looking here for
one little boy
to be healthy
and now i understand how rubber means
he can't sleep at night now over here i
can't sleep and rubber runs
that reason they can sleep
now with the promotion on the rabbi and
your permission
i want to take a shame to finish
my secret megillah
first of all you have to understand
power
if you can understand
very hard to understand
too complicated
now the question raised
why in a problem
before
is the end of the megillah
when we say ali israel hashem
israel
hatan so fairly say something very very
nice
sitting by the cedar
at pesach
they have to feel themselves like
they are in the train
to feel like
they have become freedom
and what he said at the beginning
who was a volcano he was
alabama worship
and now
we are here feeling that night we are
like a slave
and now when we finish the agatha
we're ready to make the bracha
it's the same thing like
a guy when you want to cover to be a jew
what he does
he first simply have to go to the mikveh
too deep
and then he makes the bracha it's
something else we have converseful to
deep
and then to do the bracha
now i'd like to finish the gemara
each this holiday he have defense law
that we have to learn
also around before i finish
i want to thank my torah mate
that you can attend over here tonight
but you got probably watching us
live
my
is
um
foreign
oh
know
is
my gosh
uh
oh
is
oh
is
i am
place
all right
know the words
who knows what
we know
oh
three
we know five
is
who knows eight we know eight you got a
baby
what is
before the babies are born
is
who knows
we know 10 10 out of 10.
is
who knows
is
what is that
