we have an online question
New Jersey should Jews celebrate the 4th
of July and if so how should they do how
should they celebrate the 4th of July
well we uh
have to show that paper patriotic
in the uh country
that the 4th of July is a great day to
remember for the country the day of
independence
from the British rule
and the country we live in is freedom of
religion that the Jewish people are
enjoying
freedom of religion which they almost
never enjoyed over the generations
so we have to thank God in a way that we
are
in the country that we are free to do
what we want religiously speaking
a lot of Jewish people even religious
people put on the American flag on June
4th of July to show our patriotism to
the country
but it's not a holiday it's not a Jewish
holiday
it's a it's a uh it was I get off from
work it's called the holiday but I mean
to celebrate it as a holiday is
certainly not supposed to celebrate we
don't have special spots the festive
meal whatever it is we can sort of
celebrate in the way thanking God thank
you for this day that uh you uh made
Columbus discover America I was all
God's doing and eventually uh that was
uh about about 500 years ago and now
we're able to enjoy feeling religion so
we have to have a thanks to God for
having this day but we don't celebrate
in any way that we celebrate Jewish
holiday we should have to show our
patriotism to it and uh show that we
appreciate the country we're in we
appreciate the government we're in we
have to appreciate that because we're
enjoying such benefits
So to that extent we have to appreciate
we've celebrated by appreciating that
and myself we celebrated
or by hanging out an American flag but
some people do to show appreciation
I think in Lakewood used to put out the
flag I think on the fourth of July yeah
that's what I would answer this person
