One Small Step for a Jew - Rabbi Ori Strum

Imagine you're a big contractor. You get called by the big guns to do the biggest jobs on the market. One day, you get a call from an unknown number. You pick up. Hey, hi, who is this? The caller on the other line says, hi, I'd like to hire you to build the base on miktash. Could you imagine getting such an opportunity? Could you think of a bigger project than that? Now, do yourself a favor and stop imagining. The Torah tells us ki sivna bayis hadash, when you build a new home. The Baal Haturim says bayis hadash is a reference to the bayis hamikdash. So, now go ahead and read that pasuk again. Ki sivna, when you build bayis hadash hamikdash. You see, you are contracted by Hashem to be a builder of the bayis hamikdash. Your good deeds, your positive speech, your tefillos, your studying of Torah, your shalom bayis, your chinuch, all of these add to the holy construction of the bayis hamikdash. But, don't think you need to do anything crazy, drastic, one stone at a time. Remember, one small step for a Jew, whatever it is, is a giant leap for the entire universe. One of the unique aspects of a shofar is that it's specifically a breathing instrument. breathe twice at the same time. A breath is singular, unique to the moment that it's blown. And when we hear the blowing of the shofar, it's meant to remind us to tap into that element of a neshama, of a breath. Tapping into each small moment. So, don't wait. Start building the bayis hamikdash today. One stone, one drop of oil, and one moment at a time.
