oh boy hello welcome to the late parsha show for the tour portion called but it's kind of like boy except more how wicked which would say it come a little blood all right in this week's torah portion the final three of the ten plagues occur locusts wow did you ever hear this the locusts ate up everything left in egypt after the hail and covered egypt's earth darkness um wait and the plague of the firstborn more commonly known as the death of the firstborn probably because they died wow I never thought of it that way before the death of the firstborn and foul running out of news PJ saying get out of Egypt God gave the Jewish people that's us a commandment a mitzvah B directive this Mitzvah is the first mitzvah that is recorded in the Torah um sorry you can go back to bed um we're like a full boat into the five books of Moses and like all these pages like why are we only getting our first Mitzvah now this first Mitzvah is the commandment to calculate time based on a lunar calendar oh and I thought I was confused before God elevated Moses above the clouds and showed him what the new moon looks like commanding him that whenever the moon looks like this it should be the new month while the Jewish courts were in session the way they would decide when a new month begins is based on the testimony of any to credible witnesses that claim to have cited the new moon this is an epic think epic think it's like awesome word and boring word it's epic because the dates of the Jewish holidays depend on when we start that month that the holiday is in and the holidays aren't just days when we choose to celebrate down here on earth there's some serious spiritual stuff going on in the heavenly realms on those days God made it dependent on us to decide when all that stuff goes on so the first Mitzvah we were given lays down a fundamental rule of Judaism all this stuff that we're doing for God down here celebrating we're doing mitzvahs we're not doing so many things that sometimes we want to do it's not just stuff our initiatives below causes an arousal above the ability to be a boss we don't control the world someone making the moon but God wants us to judge that God wants us to decide when it's the new moon and when to declare it into month because God wants our participation to the point that he makes us a partner in creation it's it's epic not the rhyme the fact that we partner with God and that brings us to the name of the Torah portion boy boy means calm the Torah portion opens with God telling Moses and Aaron to come to Pharaoh and tell him about the eighth plague wouldn't it make way more sense to say go to Pharaoh yeah it would but when you have to face Pharaoh when you have to confront evil head on don't for a second think that you're fighting alone you're joining God God doesn't tell you to go to Pharaoh come to Pharaoh God is the creator of your challenge he's already there shabbat shalom with increased acts of goodness and kindness that very soon will see the revelation of lytia
