Starting in the Middle East, okay. President Donald J. Trump approved a new plan to hit Iranian ships. This is an answer to the attacks on cargo ships. The US military used drones to fire missiles into the engine rooms of two Iranian government oil ships. The ships were parked just north of the American warships blocking the area near the coast of Iran. Now, American forces also hit about 100 other targets. The incident This included radar systems and machines that uh launched drones, like, you know, drone launchers across the actual country. The White House says that this was a direct answer to Iranian attacks on the ships and American uh military bases that happened 2 days ago. A US official said the strikes destroyed Iranian weapons. The official said, "This means cargo ships are safer for at least a month now." The Iranian Red Crescent claims that parts of an American missile hit a house uh during a wedding a wedding in a regular citizen wedding in southern Iran. They say that five people were killed, including a child and over 50 others were hurt. The US military answered by saying, "Well, they only hit targets and never aim at regular people. They only hit military targets, excuse me, and never hit regular people." The IRGC fired dozens of drones of heavy heavy missiles and drones at American bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq. Um in Jordan, the military shot down 10 out of 13 heavy missiles and the other three landed in empty areas. No Nobody was injured on the American or Jordanian side. President Trump posted on Truth Social after the strikes. He said the following. He said, "I like our position right now much better." He says, "America almost has complete control of the Hormuz Strait, like he says." He also says, "Iran's economy is totally falling apart." He also warned that if Iran keeps making things worse, there will be um very little left of the country, he says. Now to Lebanon. The military uh Israeli military struck southern Lebanon on Wednesday. That was yesterday. They hit, and, uh, sorry, Wednesday this morning. On Wednesday because their time, local time, is different now. So, it's really, they're saying Wednesday for the next, they hit an area where Hezbollah uh, commanders are trapped in an underground tunnel. The strikes hit the Al, the Ali Al-Taher Ridge. Mentioned it several times already. They also hit, uh, nearby areas of Kfar Ramman and, uh, um, Nabatieh Al-Fawqa, Al-Al-Fawqa, Al-Fawqa, something, something like that. Anyway, names pronunciations, not my thing this morning. Anyway, earlier this morning, a drone crossed from Lebanon into northern Israel. Sirens went off in the area. The military shot down the drone, and nobody was hurt. Remem, uh, remember we reported here the new construction happening in the West Bank? Okay. So, Israel is threatening to act against the United Kingdom if the British government goes ahead with new sanctions over building plans. UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announces, announced, excuse me, a complete change of British policy on Israel. >> [snorts] >> He's looking for ways to stop com- companies from paying uh, building, or advertising, uh, new construction in the West Bank. Any UK company takes part of it, he's trying that. This happened after Israel start, uh, started the process last month to build 1,200 new homes in the E1 area near Jerusalem. Miliband says the building acrosses, uh, crosses a red line by splitting the West Bank in two. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said that UK will be making a big mistake if it moves forward with the change. He said Israel will act against, um, Britain if Britain acts against Israel. Anyway, and that's happening. Another thing happening in Israel, a nationwide water short, shortage is forcing cities across Israel to drop water pressure and cut services. Residents in Beersheba are already reporting shutoffs. Officials warn that Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, and Ma'ale Adumim regional council and give a time could be next. The shortage is happening because five out of six desalination plants desalination plants that clean salt water, you know, ocean water into drinking water closed down. Well, Israel has more advanced systems that actually turn waste water and you know, into into drinkable water. They say that the reason they had to shut off these plants that clean water of the clean water is because there is there's an unusual high concentration of microalgae. Microalgae is small enough to go through the filters and can basically break them. So, reports say that part of national water system system will therefore be down for at least a few days. The state was forced to activate its entire natural water reserve system pumping heavily from the Sea of Galilee and underground um aquifers to cover about 90% of the normal summer demand. So, there you have it. Let's talk about the next thing. Aquifers uh well, you know, underground layers of of rock, sand, or gravel that absorbs, store, and transmit ground water um if you must. Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his ordered his his military to launch massive strikes against Ukrainian power plants and electricity lines. A second drone was discovered to have collided with another cargo plane, while a third drone was discovered near the airport 10 days later. A new report now says that Germany was was responsible for the attempted drone attack at the airport in the end. They thought first it was Russia. So, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted this morning. He said his meeting with the Germany to discuss a new air defense package um was basically discussed, I guess. They're going to sign one. Meanwhile, Germany is also lobbying that the EU should place more sanctions on Russia. Next, Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Egypt. This is his first visit to the country in 10 years. His meeting is with Egyptian leaders to talk about new military and economic deals and ties. China is looking to invest money in the Suez Canal business zone. They're also pushing for um Huawei, which is a a Huawei, sorry. Huawei, which is the Chinese, excuse me, tele technology I told you, pronunciations today is not my thing for these names. Okay, Huawei, even though it's a famous company, the Chinese technology company, to build the Egyptian government's new artificial intelligence data centers. The visit is part of a larger contest between the United States and China over who will control new technology in the Middle East. Turning to Brazil, listen to this. Brazil scheduled its its national elections for October 4th, which falls on Simchat Torah. Voting in Brazil is required by law this time. If I don't know if you know this, this is actually required by law. It's not a right or a, you know, it's a law. Attorney Monica Rosenberg handed a request letter with thousands of signatures from Jewish communities in Brazil and to to the Brazil's highest election court. The polls are scheduled to close at 5:00 in the afternoon. But Yom the problem is that Yom the doesn't end until about 6:40 in that time in that region. So, this means Eden will not be able to go vote. The requests ask the court to keep specific voting places near Jewish communities open until 8:00 p.m. The community released a statement explaining that they do not want to change the election date itself. The New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City's uh Mayor Eric Adams and I are accusing are accusing the Trump administration of holding back money. At a joint press uh conference yesterday, the governor and New York City mayor said that Trump has promised to fully fund New York's counterterrorism efforts. They say Washington is blocking 87 uh 87 million dollars in money meant to fight terrorism in the state. Hochul says the Department of Homeland Security is blocking 40% of New York's security money. She accused the president of playing political games. She said he is taking money away from the people from the police, excuse me, to get revenge on a Democratic state. Now, Mayor Adams and I say that blocked money pays for 12 bomb squads and also fire department radios. It also pays for nuclear emergency training for for rescue workers. Hochul noted that the cuts come just before the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, which is happening right now. Um the White House and Department of Homeland Security have so far not commented on this delay. Next, Congress just took a step to avoid another yet another government shutdown right before the November elections. On Tuesday, the House passed a short-term funding bill in a bipartisan vote, meaning both parties. Lawmakers voted to three 370 to 48 to keep the government open and during and running through December 11th cycle. Now, the bill now goes to President Trump's desk for his signature. This short-term fix comes after a rough year where federal governments have already shut down three separate times and for a total of 122 days. Now, if you are wondering why another shutdown is supposed to happen, it all comes down to a hard deadline. The government's financial year always ends on September 30th. By law, if Congress doesn't pass a new budget by midnight on that date, federal agencies legally lose the authority to spend the money. They have to freeze non-essential operations, close national parks, and put thousands of workers on unpaid leave. To prevent that chaos while lawmakers campaign for the midterms, Congress used what it what is called a stopgap bill. Think of a stopgap as a financial band-aid, right? It doesn't actually set new long-term budget, but instead it temporarily copies and pastes last year's spending rules to keep the lights on for a few extra months. To get To get this package through, lawmakers had to make a few major compromises. This buys everyone time until December 11th after the elections. Next, well, this is the cycle after the elections, obviously. Elections happening on November November 7th, I think. November Yeah, when is it November This is November 5th, I think, the midterms.
