President Trump just announced that a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will begin tonight at midnight Israel time. That is 5:00 this afternoon Eastern Standard Time. Trump posted on Truth Social an announcement. Well, he's got two ceasefires, 6 days left to the Iranian one and this one now is starting tonight. Trump posted an announcement on Truth Social after speaking directly with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. If this holds, it would be the first time in well, the guns go quiet in Lebanon since the war restarted on March the 2nd. This comes just 2 days after something historic. On Tuesday, the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors to Washington sat down face-to-face for the first time in 33 years. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat in between them. And the meeting lasted more than 2 hours. Israel came to the table saying it wants Hezbollah fully disarmed and a real peace deal. Lebanon asked for a ceasefire and the return of displaced families and Israeli forces out of the south. Now, this is very important. Pay attention. Just the south, okay? Hezbollah tried to stop the meeting, obviously, from happening. And as you can imagine, why why would they let it happen? Their leader, Naim Qassem, went on television the day before and called the talks useless. Lebanon's government, anyway, went ahead. Now, the Israeli ambassador, Haim Leiter, told reporters after the meeting, "We discovered today that we are on the same side of the question. We are both united in liberating Lebanon from the occupation power called not Israel, Hezbollah this time." Now, does tonight's ceasefire hold? We do not know. Israel has said it will keep on striking Hezbollah even during peace talks. Hezbollah has said it will respond to any attack. And Iran is insisting that any deal with America must include Lebanon. But tonight, at midnight, we will find out, like I said. And to caption all this, 33 years of silence broken in 2 hours, which is it's it's a come on, you got to celebrate. Take your time, take a deep breath, and celebrate. I'm joking. Now, let's see if it holds past midnight. We all know what ceasefires look like in the past, so none of us really put our full trust in it. And the Israelis are a little bit skeptical about it. Most people came out very harshly, I must say, condemning the idea of a ceasefire because it is actually influenced by Iran, which was confirmed according to few sources, that Iran influenced the ceasefire. They wanted it to be part of it. There's a bigger picture here. Now, the Israelis have said, "We will stick to the ceasefire, but we will not retreat." That means we will stay there on ground and keep our eyes open and our guns loaded and our fingers on the trigger ready for any attack that comes from the Hezbollah side. Now, to the bigger clock. The 2-week ceasefire, well, might I add that they're doing the same thing to Iran. America, too. The 2-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran runs out in 6 days, my friends. And as of right now, there is no deal. Okay? Now, let me be be clear with that. There was actually no deal. There was no deal when they said when they first met in Islamabad. Now, Pakistan's army chief flew to Tehran this week carrying a new message from Washington. Now, the White House says it feels good about the chances of a deal. A second round of talks will likely take place in Islamabad in Islamabad, which is in Pakistan, but no date has been set. And the White House is denying that they formally asked Iran to extend the ceasefire past April 22nd. The first round of talks held last Shabbos in Islamabad in Islamabad. Well, last uh it happened like uh you know, Shabbos after Pesach, Israel you know, ended without any agreement, obviously. As you remember, I already recounted it. JD Vance came out saying he has bad news, which means no talks, no no no no agreement. The two sides are stuck on the same two issues from day one. Iran's nuclear program and obviously whether the ceasefire covers Lebanon. Now, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke yesterday in a recorded video from his office. And on the right side he had a something a printer it looked like and something else which was blurred. I'm not sure why. Figure out. I'm joking. Anyway, just pointing out a few things. He said Israel is fully ready if the fighting starts again. In in his words, "Our American allies are keeping us constantly updated. Our objectives are aligned and we want we want to see Iran's enriched material removed and the elimination of its enrichment capability. The Mossad added that they want to see the whole regime, the current Ayatollah regime overturned. They said, "As long as there still there is still an Ayatollah regime in Iran and as long as Hezbollah is not disarmed and as long as Hamas is not disarmed, there is no point in a ceasefire, which is most of the Israeli um and some, you know, advocates for Israel here in America as well's arguments. Okay, now this morning, Secretary of War Pete Hexeth held a press conference at the Pentagon with the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Dan King. Now, the key parts of the sec of the press conference was as follows. Hexeth Hexeth Pete Hexeth warned Iran's new leadership directly and he said, "We urge this new regime, the Ayatollah, to choose wisely." He said, "America is reloading with more power than ever before and is locked and loaded on Iran's power plants and key sites." Now, General King said the naval blockade of Iran of Iranian ports will continue for as long as it takes. Meanwhile, House Democrats filed six articles of impeachment against Hexeth this week charging him with high crimes over the unauthorized military attacks on Iran. The effort is not expected to go anywhere in the Republican controlled Congress, but it allows it shows how deep the political divide over this war has become in this country and everywhere else in the world actually. Six days on the clock, no deal. Well, as you can imagine, and America says it is ready for either outcome. So does Israel. Locked and loaded, huh? Or locked in talks. Six days to find out which or by midnight to find out which. We never know. Now 10 days with Lebanon, so it's getting exciting. And here is what's happening during the ceasefire. Now, new satellite pictures show that Iran has been using heavy equipment to clear the rubble blocking the entrances of its underground missile bases. The United States of America and Israel had bombed those entrances during the war during the operation. War can't say war it's operation due to legal reasons to trap the missile launchers inside. Now they're trying to uncover it obviously the satellite images taken on April 10th show front end loaders digging out the blocked tunnel openings and loading the debris into dump trucks. This is happening as at missile bases near the sites of near the cities excuse me of Kerman, that's how you pronounce it, and Tabriz or the Tabriz that's the name. Yeah. American intelligence says about half of Iran's missile launchers are still in one piece. Many of them were buried and and not destroyed completely. Experts say this is exactly what ceasefires look like. One analyst put it simply you stop shooting and your enemy starts digging. Ha. What did you think? Ceasefire on top, shovels underneath. Meanwhile, the American Navy has put out a full blockade around every Iranian port. Admiral Brad Cooper said he's the top American commander in the Middle East says that the last that in less than 36 hours American forces completely stopped all of Iran's sea trade. Which no more than 10,000 American soldiers and over a dozen warships are enforcing the blockade right now. In the first 24 hours six ships were turned around and sent back to the Iranian ports. This matters because about 90% of Iran's economy depends on trade by sea. Iran is pushing back obviously. A top Iranian general threatened to strike back if the blockade continues. Iran also claims one of its own super tanks sailed straight through without being stopped. So they say it really is not a blockade. The American military says that it is not true. We reported here on Edge about the deal with China. Here is the update. Trump posted that Chinese oil tankers can pass through the Strait of Hormuz the blockade as long as China does not send weapons to Iran. Trump wrote, China is very happy that I'm permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz for them. The United States Treasury also announced new sanctions this week on more than two dozen people. Uh companies and ships. Sorry, two dozen people, companies and ships. Excuse me. Sentence, you know, commas and all that. That have been helping Iran sell its oil. Let me remind you, two days ago I reported, obviously based on reports, that it costs them close to 400 million dollars a day for Iran. Basically, they're losing 400 million dollars a day this blockade. The international energy agency, the IEA, is basically warning that Europe has only 6 weeks left of jet fuel before airlines start canceling flights unless Middle East supplies start flowing again. Despite all of this, Wall Street is is betting on peace. The S&P 500 hit a new all-time high this week, erasing every single loss from the 6 weeks of the war. Iran's ports are closed. Wall Street party is open, Rabbi Siyyah, so jump in. One more thing on the back and forth between Trump and the Pope. Now, I know we reported it twice already about the Pope and him, right, going back and forth. We told you here on Edge about the fight between President and Pope Leo. It started all when Pope Leo, obviously, spoke out against Trump and his war. This week Trump posted again. He wrote, "Will someone please tell the Pope, Pope Leo, that Iran has killed 42,000 innocent, completely unarmed protesters in the last two months alone." That number has not not been confirmed or verified by anyone. Most reports put the number of protesters killed much lower, closer to 7,000, but in this last month, the period that he says, he might be right about the period of time that they killed protesters throughout the whole entire when the protest started until now. That might be true. But Trump is clearly making the point that the Pope should be criticizing Iran and not America, and versa. And on that note, Iran is now preparing to execute a woman for the first time for her role in the 2026 Tehran uprising. If carried out, she would be the first female protester put to death. In 2025 alone, Iran executed 1,639 people. 1,639 people. That is 68% jump from the year before and the highest number since 1989 when the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei took over the the previous Khamenei. Now, this is the regime Trump is obviously talking about. The president and the pope still not on speaking terms. Okay, let's talk about who is on speaking terms. Now, overnight Russia launched its biggest attack on Ukraine in almost 2 weeks. At least 16 people were killed. More than 100 were wounded. Russia fired close to 700 drones and 44 missiles across the country. Ukraine's air defenses knocked out most of them, but 12 missiles and 20 drones got through and hit 26 locations. It's very sad. In the city of Odessa, nine people were killed and the capital of Kyiv, four people died, including a 12-year-old boy. Rescue teams pulled a mother and her child from the ruins of an 18-story apartment building that fell. And in the Dnipro region, three women were killed, all civilians. President Zelenskyy said, "Another night proves Russia does not deserve any easing of global policy or lifting of sanctions. Here is the piece that matters most. Ukraine is running low on American Patriot missiles. It uses to stop Russian rockets." The reason is the war in Iran, obviously. America's air defense supplies have been going to the Middle East, mostly. Now, Zelenskyy spent the last 48 hours flying between Germany, Norway, and Italy begging for some more air defense systems. Kyiv pays the price for a war on a different continent, my friends. Now, the truth is, if you think about it, Putin is wrong in this war. Most analysts and most reporters, well, journalists have written pieces about this. And what I've seen mostly is, from the Ukrainian inside thing, that's Zelenskyy's playing with fire. Why is he still at it? He obviously is avoiding something we call re-election. He doesn't want to get out of power. This is what it looks like when people are money-hungry and power-hungry. They can let their own citizens, their own people die for the sake of power and money, which is very, very sad what we're seeing today in the world. But we have to look at the bright side of things. We mentioned this in passing yesterday. There was a school shooting in southeastern Turkey on Tuesday. Well, the very next day, there was a second one, and it was much worse. On Wednesday, a 14-year-old boy walked into a middle school in the city of Kahramanmaraş. Now, the the these names, you know, I have to talk to the people who decide the names of cities and towns. We got to talk to them about this is this is terrible. With five handguns and seven magazines, this this 14-year-old walked into he killed nine people. Nine people. Eight students and one teacher. He wounded 13 others before taking his own life. Now, the day before the guy tried shooting obviously with a type of shotgun he had. He didn't manage to kill anyone, thankfully. But this time yesterday, he managed to kill. Can you believe this? Five handguns seven and killed nine people. Eight students, one teacher, and wounded 13 others. Unbelievable and killed himself. He used guns that belonged to his father, a former police officer. The father had been arrested obviously. Now, school shootings in Turkey as you can imagine are extremely rare. Two in two days is something the country has never seen before. This is now the deadliest school shooting in Turkish history. Teachers unions called a three-day nationwide strike. Two schools, two days, strict gun laws on paper only. All right, boys. I an update on the two stories we reported yesterday. Just want to tell you the first the the Spiegel family tragedy. We told you about the two brothers who went to see at the Sanza Sanza beach at at the beach in next to Sans Caret Sans in Netanya before Shabbos. The IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir publicly raised 10 red flags about the army not having enough soldiers. This is the fight that could bring down the coalition. And Benjamin Netanyahu is about is set to put through a budget to help the moistest about over 104 438 something million in funding for the Yeshivas. I think that's the number. Now, after Pesach, the real fireworks begin in the Knesset and we will wait and see what happens. And now, a story that I think will interest a lot of people here. A major study published this week found that a cheap 100-year-old drug called Metformin, that is a pill that millions of people already take for type 2 diabetes, may also help people with type 1 diabetes. Researchers found that type 1 patients who took this Metformin along with their regular insulin needed basically a lot less sorry to to basically treat their diabetes type 2. Sorry, diabetes type 1 obviously. Needed a lot less insulin to control their blood sugar. For people who struggle to afford insulin, this could be a very big deal. Because it's very cheap. And one more, a separate study found that people who spend their whole their entire whole life lives learning, reading, writing, studying new things have up to 38% lower risk of getting Alzheimer's disease. And that means 38% just from learning. And now, I do not think I need to explain this to the audience why that one matters because the Yeshiva world, as the Torah world, has been doing this for 3,000 years now. The doctors are just catching up. And by the way, we reported here on Edge that about those special AI glasses being developed in England to help people with dementia. And they are still being tested. They are not yet available here in America. A phone version should come out later this year, and the glasses themselves should be available in England by early 2027. So, between those glasses and this new study showing that a lifetime of learning protects the brain, there is real hope on this front. So, science confirms what your zaida always knew.
