Officials Announcing Postponement of Conrail Project in Lakewood

good afternoon Lakewood I am very happy and pleased to report the following good news we have just gotten confirmation from the do that they will postpone cancel for now postpone for the future the the railroad job that was supposed to take place on Route 9 so as of now the road closure That was supposed to take place this week on Tuesday and Wednesday and little havoc in the town has been postponed for now and will be taken care of in the spring at a later date I just want to thank the mayor uh and the police chief and everyone on the township for working doing with us and the department um it's nice to see then when state government does listen um they postponed the uh the repairs to be done the spring they're looking uh as to when they uh they can be done either over a weekend a Friday Saturday situation or very possibly over maybe a Jewish holiday so that it it really would be uh uh not so terrible for the town to deal with uh we only have one north south Corridor through Lakewood that's route nine closing that down for two days during a normal week would be disastrous school children would have trouble getting to school people have trouble getting to work people would have trouble getting around town for shopping like just impossible it's something we just could not accept uh we suggested it be done uh over a holiday When there's less traffic in town and and and and and school buses are not are not going back and forth we suggested U maybe from a Friday evening to a Saturday evening when there's less traffic and again uh kids not going to school uh so we're willing to to to listen and work with the state but the state has to understand is we can't cut our community in half and and expect us to to to function and therefore um we're very very adant about this work with us and we'll work with you uh if you don't want to work with this just not going to happen Chief just to uh reiterate what Mayor Miller and Senator singer said this would have been an absolute disaster for Town traffic would have been backed up for miles school children would have spent hours sitting on buses trying to get to school so I would like to thank the uh Department of Transportation and the commissioner for working with us and uh making the very wise decision to postpone this into spring possibly you know over a a holiday or possibly uh starting on a Friday uh afternoon evening uh until a a Saturday evening so thank you very much for your cooperation just lastly let me just say one thing we had the commissioner of Transportation here this week uh with uh members of the governing body with uh uh members of the religious community here talking about the dualization of route 9ine and and how we can work together on this issue and we did mention this as a priority Miss issue the the mayor came forward on this and said how important it was the community and I want to thank the department for listening the commissioner the deputy Commissioners and the staff there so uh Kudos is the do um you certainly uh performed well today and you certainly listened to the cries of a community and and and respond properly in closing I want to give a profuse thanks to the uh commissioner Jamie Fox as well as his assistant Commissioners Joe bartini and John case who have worked tirelessly spoke to them numerous times spent many hours in the phone back and forth to resolve this matter I want to thank my colleagues who have worked together with me on the township committee Deputy Mayor aan and committee mayor lonstein also for their time as well as the residents and shopi and those who have taken the time to put phone calls in to to express our our our outrage so to speak with this issue and now we're here to say thank you for resolving this matter and for having for having the community in mind we look forward to this project being done after the winter now the commissioner did have one request for us in return the commissioner asked that we pray for a mild winter so that there shouldn't be too many potholes or any issues repair thank you
