O.C Fire Marshal's Office William Gee Safety Message

good morning everyone um bill jay with the ocean county fire morse's office as like one more approaches we have some safety tips that we want everybody to uh be aware of and just reinforce as the weekend approaches we understand everybody will be coming off of shabbos on saturday um we want everybody to have a good time and enjoy themselves so some of the things we have most everybody has been very gracious and and put the permits in for bonfires anybody that doesn't have a permit for a bonfire will be extinguished by the fire department if they get called there we ask that everybody make sure that they have it in a proper container proper size and it's no larger than a five by five by five uh area um if it's in a metal container that's great that's the best thing to do make sure it's uh uh more than 50 feet or about 50 feet away from a building one of the big things that we're concerned about is is that if you have a large amount of people people that are if you have it in the street or something like that make sure you have a 10 foot to 15 foot buffer all the way around in the circumference around the fire we've had some incidents over the last year not here but in other areas where incidents have happened that somebody has thrown something into the fire or whatever and exploded and we don't want anybody to get hurt people bring their children um and everybody's there to have a good time but we don't want anybody to get hurt so we want to make sure that nothing gets thrown in make sure it's clean wood um and don't start the fire until the fire marshal has been there to visit it that night we'll be there about 15 minutes prior to the fire to use lighting your fire to check it out make sure there's nothing in it and we'll be able to light it and we'll periodically step stop back there and make sure it's out when it's done we want you to make sure it's out put the ashes uh to the side in a metal container so they can be picked up um other than that everybody have a good time and enjoy your lag bulma fires over the over the weekend
