of course hostages and uh thank you God for giving us this opportunity to be here thank you Scott for joining us we can talk about any of my interests either snacks or naps Scott you are the friendly shabas goyri and uh I've known you uh over a decade and are you complimented when I call you that sure Eric I'd like to be your friend every day not just one day remember Eric Trump when he came to was that's amazing Scott I'll be your button man you can call me that and say Scott we'll call you a lot of things because you're actually one of the funniest people I know in general and you've worked at Medline uh which is a company that sold medical supplies uh through our company for over a decade we had a relationship with with you I remember the first time I met you but nobody here knows you so let's just at least get a 30second overview inter uh you know introduction if you will of who you are sure and now the new company that I work for parachute Health has a contract with uh Prim Source GPO uh what we do at our new company is for for ordering DME we replace a fax machine so I always tell people I have the easiest job in the world now so um I grew up very close to you two towns over a new city uh knowing you through working with you for many years both of you worked with ushi for many years um and now I'm excited to be kind of back in the fold here with y'all I want to do my own little intro for Scott if I may you know what ushi I want to do I want to do my own I think it's pretty interesting how you and I met so I also like you worked at Medline and Michael you undersold it it's not just a medical supply company it's the largest disposable medical supply company in the country um nobody sells More Diapers than Medline does um they're actually a global company they sell all over the world over 40,000 employees work at this company I started working for them about 10 years ago 11 years ago and I remember right when I got the job I was like a little nervous I was a little apprehensive because it's not a Jewish company at all um as a matter of fact I was the only Orthodox Jew that worked at Medline while I was there out of 40,000 people I think that's um you can consider me a minority you know at that point I was the only orthodox year before you yeah yeah exactly he was uh he was he was the the closest thing they had to an orthodox Jew was was Scott Leupold so I remember when I when I got to Chicago which is where Medline is headquartered you know they bring the new reps they bring them in for training they train them in person for a couple of weeks so I get there I get to Chicago I you know head out to the hotel and then the next morning you know was going to be training and I'm nervous and I'm like I don't know anybody I just pretty much know the guy that hired me um and that's it so when I get to the hotel and I see someone standing by the front door of the hotel and I guess Scott you were there at the time not for training you already worked at Medline but you were there for something else they do continued education as well so you were also there and uh as I'm walking by and be like he stops me like hey uh what's up you know and you know we start talking we get we get introduced and he made me feel comfortable like within minutes you know and he he realized you know that was brand new and uh he gave me a little bit of Comfort it was a comforting moment for me and we became fast fast friends I want to say that Scott was not just my friend at Medline we became personal friends outside the scope of just just work and uh Scott was you know a big part of me in the beginning integrating into for me what was a new culture it was uh very difficult for me in the beginning but Scott's one of those guys that he can get along with pretty much anybody um he has that type of personality and he's very likable and people love being around him and also I'll say this scottt and I'll end with this Scott is someone who just sees things in a very positive way it's hard to to get him down and his sense of humor is appreciated by all so anytime we had an event at Medline you know Scott would always keep things interesting and he would uh he would be very very funny so we we appreciate it I appreciate the friendship I really do I love that by the way thanks for that background ooshi your story matters founded by Jews by the way prod defly not Jewish run and that idea is very cool like for example I was just reading recently about new Orthodox Jewish police officers that joined the police department and it's different unique right like you know you similar in a lot of ways but also very different yeah like you got to get pulled over by someone uh a police officer wearing a keepa I'm not sure how it's going to go either way either it's going to go great or it's going to be terrible I'm not sure should I pull out my badge I pull out my PBA card but that whole process is interesting it's just I wanted to point that out but the other thing I was thinking is speaking of Orthodox Jews the Orthodox Jew Jewish Community is actually the ones that benefit most from Medline you know why because Medline are the manufacturers of those blankets that you get when you have a child and they have so many children yeah you quote on quick over there good for you I opened up a school bus shop in Muny I'm GNA be the richest guy in the world that's great that's great yeah so we have a great background of uh of Medline and uh who Scott is and I appreciate that um I I want to get into conversation and topics that are you know we call them random but it's really just like anything that we want to talk about um that's happening in our world like I said earlier um but first before we do that Michael I I was about to say but first I want to ask you if there's anything you want to bring up I really want to bring up something because it literally just happened last night go for it it just happened last night and I was actually uh very intrigued by it um and this is going on for quite a long time and you may not know about this and others may not know about this as well but Donald Trump was President I thought it was I thought it was really really cool and really nice and I appreciated it so I want to I want to sh what what I experienced I went to a wedding last night in Lakewood okay Lakewood is has a lot of notoriety uh a lot of uh Scott you're familiar with Lakewood there yeah it's part of the Bermuda Triangle it's Muny Brooklyn Lakewood exactly and lakewood's become uh like the hub for you know Healthcare and there's a lot of operators who have their offices over there and just like Muny grew to be spring Val and Ramapo lakewood's grown to be the community is grown to be outside of that as well Tom's River Etc look at this guy he's literally up to date he's up to speed and geography yeah and you're right they're expanding like crazy like they're just it keeps evolving and now they're expanding into Brick New Jersey as well like they're really starting to go out even more but great listen they're growing and it's a beautiful thing um so there's a lot of families who live there so there's got to be I don't know how many weddings every night but I'm assuming on a daily basis at night you probably have 30 40 w going on all at the same time pause I'm sorry there's a wedding hall that has two wedding halls built in one a central kitchen and you can go out from either door and you have one wedding hole in the front one wedding hole in the back two two parties going I've been to two weddings you know how they say you can't dance at two weddings at the same time I did it in Lakewood continue so in the same building same buing how many people are at each of these weddings too it's a considerable amount of close to a thousand sometimes yeah thousand is a lot you know I would say between 500 and okay okay which is a lot that's true the average yeah how much is average in your world I I had 300 people at my wedding and that was considered huge that's not bad by the way yeah didn't you have a travel wedding didn't you have a destination my wife's from Peru so we got married there and with that you had 300 people yep even though people had to travel I just want you to know I was so excited that's especially a lot of we had a lot of people from Peru there as well but a lot of people traveled I was so excited to have a des I'm sorry o will get right back to you I was so excited to get an invitation from Scott for his wedding in Peru yeah that I put it on my fridge and I was like elated and then I looked at it I'm like Friday night in a Church thanks Scott yeah so I couldn't go the table yeah go ahead um so anyway I'm at this wedding last night and um it's towards the end of the wedding probably you know the tail end of it the last hour when I guess all the you know the the Grooms the the H's Friends start to dance you know they take over the party and all a sudden I see kids just filling into the hole these like 13 14 year old kids teenagers like uh I don't know 40 50 of them um and they just take over and they start dancing not with the groom but with the brother of the of the Bride the bride's Brothers um they start dancing with they put them into the middle as if as if they're the center you know center of attention and I I I found that to be a little bit a little bit strange I've never seen that before so I started asking people around me oh yeah that's very normal so the way it works in Lakewood is if there's a wedding in the family and you have a sibling from 9th to 12th grade then their whole class also attends the wedding towards the end and they give like you know special attention to the sibling so they can celebrate with with them and it becomes very Rowdy and it becomes and sometimes he says you can have two siblings one's in nth grade one's in 11th grade so both their classes come and if that happens then the rashash Shiva who's the head of the school he'll also attend and becomes a very big deal and it was so festive it was so like entertaining and and everybody was engaged and everybody was just and I felt like wow this really just the energy in the room was was incredible and apparently this is what they do in Lakewood this is a very normal thing and I've never seen that before um and I thought that was like I said next time I'm on the podcast I want to talk about this because you know maybe we should Institute this in in other world why is only lakid doing this like it's such a good idea um I think that we should we should all SC what do you what do you think well I don't have to pay for this wedding that we're talking about right I say I say invite everyone this is great invite all the kids our weddings are very very expensive I mean it's it's ridicul you have a thousand people there yeah no imagine even 200 people a typical Wedding by how much is a typical wedding in your world I mean I think you the night of the just the night of the wedding expenses I would imagine 150 bucks ahead or something to that but that's for the food I'm talking about everything is that everything is that like I don't know a couple hundred thousand dollars get out of here a couple hundred grand I think so yeah really that's what the average American spends maybe 100 Grand probably that's what you spent on a wedding and no destination is less I guess cuz people but it's 300 people that's crazy you're not going to talk about how much you're wedding I don't remember exactly I mean it was a long time ago but and it was also in another country where things are a lot less expensive right that's true Mich have you been to a non-jewish wedding before I love non-jewish wedding I've been to one I've been to one n his wedding Matt culo yeah okay shout out to Matt culo by the way friend of ours the best the best story we had that I have about being friends with isy was you remember the the barbecue we did at Matt's house yes had so tell everybody the story that's a great story this is a pretty good story so we were having a barbecue and we only had one Orthodox Jewish friend being ushy and the company was having a barbecue for our team it's like 25 30 people yeah there was probably about 25 people there us and our spouses and uh obviously we wanted to make usushi comfortable and happy there so we said USI what do you know what do you need what what do we have to do can we just buy some kosher food and cook it up and this doesn't mind do in like deep Connecticut like in Hartford Connecticut like you know there's not a lot of kosher options in the area so she's explaining to us certain things okay we can do that we can do that we need a separate Grill okay we can do that and then we he gets there and he says oh and also uh the grates for the grill need to be washed in running water and we're like okay like the sink and he go it's a Purify goes no like natural running water we need to find like a river or something we're like what we're like well people are coming here soon so we ended up taking the grate from this disposable grill that we bought specifically for ushy and going to like some running water we found behind the shop right and like a a real story yeah it was a running stream over there it was like runoff from like the street or something like that but it was like a yeah but it led into like a larger body of water so it was good enough I think there was like a sh C like how did you guys react to that we loved it we we loved it we it was like a journey they watched me as I took the greates and I you know walked towards the stream and I like dipped it into the window they're probably thinking like this guy's wacko like whatever they're just entertaining me but yeah this I did what I had to do and they were very respectful and you know they really cooperated by the way there's another rule that's more important than this Rule and that rule is is that a Jewish person has to ignite the fire of whatever it is that you're cooking right I'm just a magic I thought that's where you were going I thought you were like we have to turn the fire on you know by the way you know how that comes across Michael like as a nonu like you know somebody's in your house and they're cooking for you them oh no you can't throw the fire on I got to do it for you like it probably makes them feel for a moment like a little bit like what I'm not good enough to turn the fire on you know like how how do you perceive this talk about opening bottles of wine I I have an answer but let's go back to the cooking thing where you were for a second at the barbecue simply because I just want to tell you that the ritual of water I just want to mention for a second is a little bit like wow that's different that's interesting lighting a fire right like we said earlier if you came in and lit a fire but I just want to mention something ushi so you know for the future I was stuck once and I bought dishes and I was told that if you buy dishes that are made in the country of Israel you don't have to actually dip them in ritual Waters cuz they're already holy there's a concept like that that exists is that like an accepted concept that people practice you know what someone can Google it will you know you're our other friend Google this Michael this is like an internal thing between J no no I don't think they I don't think uh you know internet has data on this by the way Gemini through Google is up to date with everything so you can use got ask your local Rabbi but anyway my point is I'm sure the Party City in West Hartford didn't have plates that were made in Israel I'm almost positive yeah no but it was it was a nice exp I was just saying a a tip for you for the future you can actually get a gy a nonu and you could do an exchange a money exchange with him yeah and then he owns the plates and then you don't have to put them in the ritual anymore actually an interesting thing about my culture that I've never told you is every time I do a podcast I'm given $5,000 by each of the co-host that's amazing it's amazing I respect your culture yeah thank you do you practice everything in your culture this part I remember the first time we ate dinner together and I looked at everyone who was not Jewish I said okay guys we have in our culture we have to hold hands and like they didn't know what to do everyone wanted to respect me so they started holding my hand I'm kidding so that's always fun to do by the way and I and I like where this uh where this topic is going I'll just uh just to finish that topic up I'll just say that I always I never believed in much in my life so watching people have strong beliefs has always been interesting to me and I I respect you know having a higher calling oh Scott let's get into that I'm put leaving the papers away for a little bit so what are what are some of the baselines a little for you do you have any basic beliefs do you have I guess my my belief is more I'll see when I get there I don't I don't feel that I need to have an answer interesting and you know you know what they say they say like nobody's an atheist in the Foxhole like you know when when someone needs to turn to a higher power like at that moment like everybody everybody does by way they may say that I'm curious response exactly yeah I never have I don't um I'm comfortable not knowing you know I don't feel that I need to no interesting I I don't know like for me Michael and Scott I I don't know what you know I'm a religious person I practice but there's a lot of things I don't really understand I don't even know I'm just doing it because that's how I grew up and that's how I've been taught for me religion really comes down to a quality of life um religion for me gives me a sense of community um which I think is very very important it puts values for me on on having a family and things like that and I think I'm just happier for it in in a lot of ways so you know I'm sort of like the way I look at it is I'm on the train and I may not have seat in first class I may not I'm definitely not driving the train I'm not the conductor of the train I'm on the train and this train is going through destination and hopefully I get to the same place everybody else is going we're on the same train at the end of the day but I'm somewhat in the back I'm taking a little bit of a passive role but I want to be on the train you know I don't want to miss the train I want to be on it that I'm on the same train I just don't know where it's going yeah I completely have a different opinion than both of you I'm not just on the train I am the conductor I actually feel that each one of us is in some sort of fashion a conductor and if you're just riding the back of the train you are missing out in life that's my opinion my thoughts is that I've chosen this religion as the right religion for me based on the values that I am living and I enjoy it and I appreciate it I'm living it up every day baby and I don't pray three times a day with a group of 10 people meaning a minion and uh I keep Shabbat and I keep kosher and I wear a keepa because I'm proud to be Jewish and and I love it I consciously do everything I do based on my values thank you Rabbi spec my therapist who've been working on this with me for years but and I knew it existed Somewhere in My DNA and my upbringing for years and I had that in my and like you said the house door next door to the left by Me was an Indian the house next door to the right was was African-American and we got along and I'm looking at their religion but in the past decade or so I studied it and I looked at it and I said you know what the Bible I love the Bible this is going to be my map and I'm going to be the conductor and every one of us God inside of we're all the conductors but I don't want to get too deep into it but that's my philosophy that's my look so and I'm very interested in religion and I studied philosophy is what I got my degree in and I was very interested in how you know religions came about and how they're taught and what they do for people and I respect religions and respect people that follow religions are you open to the idea of accepting God into your life one day I'm just curious if I guess I'm open to it yeah if something came or you know going back to what is she say is there is there a foxhole that potentially you could be in that say oh my God maybe I should look at Buddhism or Judaism no but I do like Buddhism a lot if I was going to choose a religion probably be Zen Buddhism because it's more based on an internal feeling that's really cool I I think there's a lot of aspects to Buddhism that I actually appreciate and uh the Zen world is one that I also relate to a lot the candles burning it's proof of that um but I look at candles and light as spiritual as well I like that we have different perspectives and we're all getting together here and we're aligned interest in our values of discussions of interesting topics that are you know in our world I prepared something and what it is is like a you know call it Russian reled if you will you'll pick a number from 1 to 12 and I'll talk about this topic with the three of us and then each one of you can go through either the papers and pick a topic or you could all play the one to2 uh game let's do the one to2 game I like these topics are so I just want to mention though these topics that I picked are interests that ushi and I have and for those of you listening we are very very different like you heard a minut to go about the Train the conductor I love music I love traveling I love people I love expose I love meeting new people I feed off their energy you may not like that part of that world right you love sports you're a fanatic when it comes to information you're a teacher um I read the room I read people I don't read books Oshi reads books right it's really a fundamental difference I think between the two of us wouldn't you say yeah I mean I think each of us have a little bit of those things as well but I think that we're each extreme in the things great so so the 12 topics I picked is based on that so um who wants to go first I think our guests should definitely go first you know what thank you I appreciate I'm pulling one out of the Hat let's go with eight wow that's so interesting I I I'm not making this up eight was my number as well like I was thinking when it comes to get out of here I swear eight is my number I could read people too yeah it's pretty cool okay go ahead um eight is wow okay interesting cultural and entertainment highlights that's going on in the world and I'm going to let's go to the next one cultural and entertainment highlights I'm goingon to give you I'm going to give you a a list here so you understand what I'm talking about and we could jump into anything I don't want to hear the list I want to be surprised when we ask you for a number no no no this is eight this is number eight I'm telling you the categories within number eight yeah yeah I'm expanding on you for example Bob Marley's 80th anniversary is coming up so Jamaica's going crazy soon right that's like a topic I'm gonna pass on um the the Jazz New York you like that topic okay New York City is having a jazz festival and I think it's important for everyone to know when festivals are and music festivals are where you could go and I know it's not a big time I for you but I love it right so winter Jazz there's only one jazz club left in New York too no there's more than one Jazz yeah there's plenty yeah you know what go check it out blue note where else do you go um I I'm not a jazz fan but uh my son is and I'm actually GNA go this weekend to the Lincoln uh theater and they have a jazz club upstairs which is one yeah the blue note is great too I don't know if you ever been the blue note on bleer it's fantastic I love knowing that by the way I'm going to add that to my list purm is coming up guys that's here and I'm going to get straight into that by the way even though I have movies here and shows and different things that might be boring or not what's what am I picking up on I'm picking up on PM you want to know why because the first time that Scott and I celebrated a Jewish event he was a cowboy and he came to our por party do you know why I was a cowboy why because it was very uh I thought you guys were lying about it being a cont a costume party so I thought that if I just wear a plaid shirt like I wear often and I could just wear a cowboy hat and was if it wasn't really a costume party I could take the cowboy hat we wearing so what was that and then what I pulled up so tell us what that was like it was shocking I mean you this was a non-jew that hasn't experienced purum before and what goes on it's like the one day of a year that is uh are we let loose beyond anything you imagine and for an outsider for someone not Jewish has never experienced it it's got to be a crazy shock when you see what's unfolding in front of you what was that like so the first one I went it must have been around 10 years ago probably 2015 somewhere in there and it was uh it's in February or March usually right right in that that area and I remember it snowed that day I drove over to uh Neil's house we were celebrating and uh again I was like God these guys probably lied to me they're probably messing around like the like the handholding trick at dinner yeah yeah so you're going to show whatever's going to go psyches you going be the only idiot luckily my costume was just a bandana and a cowboy hat that could be removed but so I pull up and I see an entire marching band of like 10-year-olds get out of a limo and walk into the house and I was like all right I think they're telling the truth something's happening I remember specifically a story happened though there about someone at the door that asked you for money could you tell us what you remember that entrance fee a couple people were everyone was asking me for money I didn't know what was going on you have to realize there's uh a bunch of you know clearly stoned teenagers getting driven around uh asking for money for their school and I started asking people well the money we know the money doesn't go to their school right yeah yeah we know it's just part of the thing I remember you may not remember this I remember standing next to you right when you came in yeah and it was like you just passed the entrance and you know you bumped in through a few rabbis you know this cowboys pushing in through a few rabbis that came to collect and um right when I'm standing next to you a rabbi came over and said hey I'm collecting can you give me $20 and you looked at me he goes and he says I just gave the guy at the front door do you remember that you thought it was like an entrance feet and then I also tried to someone else was asking every Neil just kept giving money to everyone and I go Neil I'll take care of this guy because I thought everyone just gets 20 bucks and he goes Scott I'm about to write that guy a check for $10,000 I just put my 20 back in my pocket and walked away yeah that was a great experience but the other thing is I had I had only heard about Orthodox Jew's parties before then and I walked in and I only saw saw men and I just said hey guys you know I don't want to go to the wrong area like you know where are the women I don't want to like end up there by accident and uh this guy looks at me and he goes dude you don't bring sand to the beach I looked at him and I go dude you don't know what that means Neil does throw a great party by the way with a great band and it was great music and what do you think of that when you see teenagers getting drunk and collecting for their school what goes on in your head it was s surprising I would say I was you know I don't it was surprising to see the age of the children that were drunk everybody's participating it's like you know age doesn't matter that day um we're all doing the same things but what you don't see and what a lot of the people don't see if you're not part of the community if you're not infused and you know and and and knowing what's going on you know behind closed doors the amount of money that gets dispersed that day across the globe I'm talking about Jews everywhere in the world are celebrating that day the same way uh they're all celebrating it in in the same manner and anybody that is somewhat welltoo anybody that has a little bit more money than the average person is giving that day but not just giving I'm sorry I have to interrupt everyone is giving yeah I understand but when I'm talking about the giving now I'm talking about in big large yeah but substanti up of course you know we're giving money everybody's giving money but you know you give $1,000 for the for the day the average person no but I'm making a point ,000 you give away but I'm talking about these people I'm going to let you finish I'm just saying the spirit of the holiday and I don't like when people compare it to Halloween I just say it's like a Halloween thing to non-jews who don't understand but at the end of the day the whole idea of porm is giving it's you actually can't go through perm without giving someone something to help them which is amazing amazing but continue I'm sorry I have a great story I'll tell you in a minute no no it's true it's true but the the the amounts of money uh that goes out that day is astronomical and if you explain that to a non-jew they'd be like what this guy gave out a million dollar that day uh the next guy gave out $2 million that day and it's not only one day in the year this person is giving he's giving throughout the year as well he's involved in a lot of you know organizations and they're giving it to strangers well not real strangers you know we all consider ourselves Brothers you know if you're Jewish but at the end of the day somebody you don't know and you're not really vetting them you're not asking question this is a line that's out the door and people have a minute you know 60 seconds to quickly share their story and and and you got a check and everybody gets something some may get a little more than others but to me that that's always been astounding is that we have that type of camaraderie and we have that type of connection that money talks all right that's where it all you know it all ends is are you willing to put your money where your mouth is and we are we're putting our money where our mouth is that we're literally sharing our money with with everybody I think that's that needs to be told people need to know it goes back to I think what's a probably what I think what I respect most about the Jewish culture which I Michael we've talked about this before my grandmother's from Brooklyn just like you are Irish woman Irish Catholic woman and she used to say all the time about Jewish people Jewish people take care of each other really something that I think a lot of the world respects about I appreciate you saying that and I want to say on that note and taking care of each other guys porm is coming up underage drinking is not only frowned upon it's illegal and it should not happen I'm not a fan of it and it's a challenge and every year there's unfortunate incidents that happen and drunk driving I love that people get limos because they recognize that they're going to drink anyways so you might it's okay I'm not condoning I'm not saying it but it's very big Challenge and I want you to know that I'm not a big fan of that in general the drinking of underage children uh is is terrible and it's something that hatala which is the National Organization that deals with emergencies for Jewish people comes out very strong before the holiday of PM reminding everybody do not drink you know like don't don't drink and drive right don't drink and porm yeah you know I mean a 10-year-old's not going to know their limits it's impossible the issue is that part of the holiday spirit is to drink and the and this is might confuse the message that I'm about to tell you in a minute and I'd love to hear your perspective on this the whole idea is to give but another very big thing that you're supposed to do on porm is drink until you don't know the difference between a villain and the hero exactly that is the whole describ to the point that you don't no longer know who's the villain who's so Jewish people are telling their communities that when you're 13 you're a man when you're 13 you're B Mitzvah and that's when you have to abide by all the rules of the Torah and that's the map of our life which I agree but then we tell them but on purm there's one thing you can't do and that's drink so these boys that are studying all day they make arguments to their rabbis and leaders and families that we want to drink also because it's part of our obligation I don't have much arguments they're making they're just drinking they're following suit they see what's going on it's so accessible it's all around everywhere everybody's drinking so naturally they're just going to tag along and they're going to partake that's what happens and you can't really avoid it much and it's every parent job Michael to try to control it as best as they can for their own children um and everybody's got to do their own thing I'm not here to tell the next kid what to do I'm here to tell the next kid what to do don't drink and drive get a driver and not every parent is responsible some people don't have unfortunately you know parents that are responsible like that so the kids should listen to this and should know get a driver or you know that's all that's all I'm saying I'm saying like you know okay I'm not battling that not a perfect world it's never going all right what's the biblical backstory for losing the distinction between the villain and the hero there's no there's no backstory forward I mean they want you to be in a Zone where first of all that day is supposed to be the opposite right because we had a tremendous miracle that that's it that's that's the part and uh therefore what was supposed to happen to the Jews where everybody was you know there was a a death sentence for the Jews they were all going to get killed and the end not only did they not get killed they actually came out on top and they became very uh you know a lot of good things happened to them so the opposite happened so to commemorate that this day we do everything the opposite so normally you know on a daily basis You're Sober you know so today you got to drink you got to be the opposite of that that's why we dress up to be the opposite of differently than how we commemorate that idea everything's about being the opposite right but going back to giving which we don't do the opposite we exemplify the idea of giving um I do want to mention a quick story um we had an organization in Brooklyn when my mom and dad were alive that we gave food to people who just couldn't afford it and we did it in a way of taking leftover food from weddings did I tell you the story before I I mean I know about this you know about the concept yeah so there's still a guy in in m in our community his name is Benny Wexler and he has an organization he is a great grandfather and he goes to weddings every week and he picks up the leftover food and he gives it out to the needy so we did this in Brooklyn when my mom and dad were alive and uh my dad passed away but my mom continued this process and um one of the things that we did is we would go on the streets and if anybody would collect charity I as a young child would say to them I can't give you really charity right now but I can give you food and I can put you on the list to give you food they would say wow that's amazing yeah thank you and here's my address one day I met a guy on Avenue J in Brooklyn he sat in a wheelchair and he was a very big dude it was difficult to look at him you know the type like it was just you felt bad for him because you felt terrible made you uncomfortable exactly it made me uncomfortable and I and I said to him give me your address Malcom and he said no problem anyways um I went to give out the food at at the his um apartment which was on Avenue H and7th for those of you that don't know it's like an area which like back then it was just the building itself still doesn't have air conditioning or working elevators he lived of course on the seventh floor and the elevator was broken so the first time I went up to him I went up I delivered the food I knocked on his door he came to answer and I got a peek into the apartment and he was a hoarder you know the hoarder types where everything is just sitting there you ever see those cars that have people that have that everything in the car you can't even see the guy driving everybody knows those types of cars right that was his apartment and it was there was rats running around it was disgusting I felt terrible for him but I was like I can't do this again and my mom said no no no that's going to be your shift you're going to have to do that shift and every week on Thursday I'd go up the seven flights and I would be frustrated that I had to do it but it would feel good and I would do it it was pm and it was 4:30 p.m. and we were about to start the family meal we were all together in our house and my mom looks at me and she goes we need to go deliver food to that guy on Avenue H and I said are you kidding me I'm going to deliver food to the guy now we're about to start our party I called her EMA said EMA come on now I'm going to do this and I was a teenager I'm like come on this is like I don't have patience for this right now and she's like no you have to do it the spirit of purm is giving and the ultimate giving is to those who are in need and that is actually where it comes from to give two people that are in need food or sustenance and I said you know what fine I'll do it I put on my coat I didn't have a car I walked four blocks with a box of food I walked up the seven flights and I knocked on the door and sure enough after two minutes he opens up and I said here you go happy pm and he looked at me and he goes thank you and he slammed the door in my face and I'm like oh okay that was weird I walked back I said IMA you just wasted my time he slammed the door in my face it wasn't interested next Thursday I come back I walk up the steps I knock on the door and his daughter who I never met answered the door like a 20 20s uh type of age she opens the door and I said Hi how are we doing I I'm here deliver she goes Mr Greenfield there's no reason for you to deliver food anymore I said what happened she goes my father passed away said your father passed away what are you talking about she goes the first time he ever got a gift on purm was when you came on purm to deliver that food and the next day he died of a heart attack and that that was the first time in the so I wanted to say like what was in the food I at it he must have been very surprised oh my God he exactly but it made me feel so good and from then on I took like uh you know uh I don't know an oath or whatever I promised myself that I'm going to continue feeding people people hearing that story now knowing you just because it's so clear how that shaped you you know you're such a giving guy now and you're driven by helping others and it's just interesting hearing that story here's your 20s well you can see how it how it how it shaped him yeah know I appreciate that but that's that's the story of pman a nutshell for me and uh did I ever tell you the story of she I heard this story before I didn't I didn't realize this was a story when you started but as you started saying it I remembered you know what thank you for being quiet though throughout the entire story he saved it under Michael delivers high fat meal to man no I remember the ending of the story but I held my tongue but it's a great story Michael and uh you know you did a really good thing it's it's due to my mother and due to the nature of our religion and what we do which is we're a giving religion you know the the club that we're part of and the train that you're on is the most beautiful train in the world and we were given this as a gift from our family we were born into it and we're happy and that's what I meant very early on what I told you when I'm I'm on the train you know I have lots of questions I have some days where I question things I've days where I struggle but at the end of the day it provides me with an overall sense of comfort just knowing that I'm a part of something greater um there's a lot of it that does make sense to me and I think it would be much harder not to have some sort of purpose like if I find out one day that everything is all a fraud and it's all one big hoax oh my God like so what am I living for so what do I need to what's tomorrow then guys I like I know you well I know you well enough that if you did feel that way I know how strongly you feel about your children and your family and I I think that there is a there's something there's more to life there's something there yeah that's important to you that you know you probably see through a lens of the god of the godliness of it all right um but I believe I strongly believe that if you know which I don't want you to do but if you ever lost your faith in a religion I don't think you'd lose purpose in life okay okay I hear I don't know if I agree with that so much all that being said a little bit a little bit of uh of of of purpose there's got to have a you know there's got to be like some type of I'm putting my paper I'm putting my papers back down Scott what's the purpose of your life mine's my family mine's my daughter what if you didn't have a daughter um then there I probably wouldn't see so much purpose in life it would just be getting through without you know hindering too much without hurting people that's a very unique interesting perspective and it's not you're not alone obviously right most of the world you know truthfully I didn't feel a Terri I didn't feel an overwhelming feeling of purpose before I had a job so interesting you know I I can talk about this forever but we'll leave the commentators to talk this a very heavy convers it is a heavy conversation which is why I'm picking the papers out again yeah yeah but I I would like to bring something up on number eight he chose eight and about something cultural or something that's inter we could stick to eight all day if you like as long as it stays interesting I like the thought about how your son got into jazz and does he play jazz or is he he does he's an awesome Rockstar he he plays guitar and jazz guitar yeah yeah and he's amazing and uh he he made me fall in love with that style of music when it's infused with like rock or or classic type of stuff like Eda James and sure I like those kind of things you know that kind of music when it comes to uh Jazzy stuff yeah but he's amazing yeah and uh I'll let you know how it goes this weekend all right when we go out what were you gonna sayi so I'm a little bit embarrassed about this actually that I have to admit this publicly can we uh guess what it is that you're embarrassed no you're not we play that game for a minute I like that I list of go through a list of 50 things that we think we should be embarrassed I don't know how you got to pinpoint this particular one but there's a guilty pleasure of mine that I really really enjoy and uh my wife knows about this and she always leaves me alone when these things happen so I have the the time to to pregnant pause please right let everyone guess what this is continue go ahead she leaves me alone so I can you know um just exercise this this guilty pleasure and it's to watch it's to watch award shows okay uh yeah I was I was keeping you guys in suspense you weren't sure what I was going to say uh watching award shows I'm talking about watching like the Oscars the Grammys the MTV award like different award shows by the way I'm with you and it's by the it's a waning thing um it's it's very the viewership is really decreasing over the years especially as Hollywood has become more and more political political exactly much more people quite frankly don't want to hear their celebrities talk about uh you know which candidate they believe in what which party policies they uh they stand behind because it's all it's all fake it's all at the end everybody sees through it but calling it a guilty pleasure makes it sound like you're watching it for a reason that others are watching it for are you just watching it for to to see who wins the awards andil pleasure because I feel gross about myself while I'm watching it as to why am I enjoying this why do I want to see these people giving each other Awards interes like what what I I know that I should be better than this I know that it's like reading a it's like reading a magazine called in touch or like one but is that is that why you're enjoying it do you want to see who wins the awards you're more watching it for to see what people are wearing or what the performances are or something like no no not what people are wearing I'm I'm watching it because I'm in tune with a lot of the things that are happening like with the movies the the shows and the music whatever it might be and I'm curious to see you know also I like people that achieve things I like to see accomplishments at the end of the day um these people have a skill set there's no question about it and they do it at a very high level so I could appreciate that and therefore I like to see you know what goes down who wins that's competitive this is the the height of competitiveness you know winning the ultimate award and everybody is aiming for the same thing and these people put years and years into their craft you know and um it's and very few people can do what what these people do so there's a component to it an element it's like a game show it's like a sport I really really love it but at the same time I realize these people um are no different than any of us as a matter of fact a lot of them are actually worse than the average person um I mean you go into that room I mean if you had to combine everybody's egos there's not enough space in the world that can hold that um because they know that they're accomplishing great things um they're getting paid very well for so they're all very wealthy they're very elite it's like they're almost like they have this own little club and we're all outside observing what's going on and I find this whole thing there's like two sides to it one side it's it's it's gross it's disgusting it's horrible I think they're all bad people I think they have they have unb you know terrible morals I can say soad but then again there's a flip side to where I admire I respect I can appreciate what they're bringing to the table so we just had the uh it was the um the Golden Globes this was like two three weeks ago um and it's like a buildup to the big shows like like the Oscars which is coming up which I'm excited about when's the Oscars it's I think it's in the end of February or March something like that I think I believe um and it's a really really big event you know and I'm like it's just weird to me that I battle this and a part of me really really hates it and and I feel like America feels very very similar I feel like there are people who want to hate it because so many things you could say bad about it but at the same time they're doing it's it's very entertaining so do you like when they have a comedian like Nikki Glazer who kind of rips them apart that's the best part that's the best part of the show the shock value the the comedic part of it Ricky Jes I mean he's been doing it for years he's been doing it and they kept asking it to come back it's amazing and so when you call it a guilty pleasure do you enjoy it more when the person getting you know quote unquote picked on is like squirming in their seat not enjoying it or do you like when they I enjoy that I'm likeing yeah I'm rooting for you for the the the zingers and the on liners but it's just like I feel like they're living in their own little or the smacks yeah that's that was crazy I'm just saying that's what I watch it that was crazy I watch it for the proverbial smack that goes on throughout the it's entertaining by I have to say I'm sorry this is why I watch the Super Bowl for the ads right Super Bowl's coming up I watch it for the entertainment factor of the of the crowd and and I don't think I think what Scott's trying to say also is not such a guilty pleasure it's okay no it's pretty guilty I think I need to be a better person I think I need to improve prove I I shouldn't be watching that like I shouldn't be enjoying it like if you think about the conceptually what it is it's these people that are out of touch out of with real Day Everyday People yeah um and they're just like giving each other Awards about you know who's but it sounds like what you really like is watching them getting taken down a p but why why do I love it's not just that part though I like actually seeing you know who's coming who's winning you know and I'm I'm keeping up why why am I keeping up Can I Tell You Why by the way cuz you might appreciate art culture this is good things this is not a guilty that's my viewpoint yeah I I I think it's totally fine to have things that are that you enjoy that aren't some you know for an not a for an educational purpose or to better yourself I feel embarrassed about it no sounds like for you it's a time to shut your mind off a little bit and enjoy watching what others are how do you shut your mind off scott similarly watching stupid TV shows anything that you're into lately that you got addicted to so to speak I've been watching so my thing is uh when I'm on airplanes like to watch movies and for some or or shows and I find that I was talking to this to someone about this yesterday I find that when maybe you guys find this too when you're watching a show or a movie on an airplane I get so much more locked into it and so much more kind of bought into it because I'm only focusing on that and you want to ignore the noises from the engines yeah yeah you're not you're literally shut off from the world you don't want toar you got nothing else to do totally dialed in y and so I've been watching Dexter so because I'm I want to watch the new one that's coming out so I never watched it originally so I'm I'm watching that was a very popular show for for a long time a really good show I didn't even know there's a new one coming out I wasn't even aware of that the issue that I have with these things is that I literally subscribed to six different programs and it's not enough I know like I I wanted to watch the NFL and I had to be a Paramount plus subscriber suddenly I'm like every day something new comes are you kidding me don't worry Michael you're just going to have it for a week and then you're going to cancel it after the free I'm never going to cancel me neither but do you ever say you're going to cancel it of course I say I'm going to cancel I have 32 subscriptions that I'm supposed to cancel but I have to tell you something I went to chat GPT recently and I told it the movies that I enjoy from a comedy perspective and I asked it to pick three movies and I watched one and it was the funniest movie I've watched in a very long time by the way that is interesting ask tell chat TPT the movies the TV shows that you've liked in the past and ask them to give you good recommendations based on on on your your theme of what you like what a great idea what was the movie um I'm looking it up I made a huge impression on what a great AG yeah no it's it's it's with an actor that's Indian guy and he's so funny and uh the the premise of the movie is just hilarious it's not even like uh you know it's it the reason why I really enjoyed it is because the comedic value to it was really every five minutes I was laughing out loud the type that I missed the joke and I had to rewind and uh you know but I'm I'm going to look it up in a minute yeah okay yeah got to know now all right okay November fun facts and stories all right we could talk about for example sports trivia uh we could talk about the fact that uh a kosher restaurant in Israel just banned smartphones what uh we can talk basically no one's ever going to that restaurant so that's a great marketing strategy how to not get customers to walk into yeah I mean are they Banning you having it in your pocket are they Banning you watching videos aloud at your table are they Banning you're not allowed to walk into the restaurant with a smartphone did you know the concept exists with Orthodox Jews uh hdic mostly but uh you know just no I say more widely accepted for hm um you know in that world but the more orthod to use flip phones yeah yeah did you know this concept in general I've heard are there people that you can't WhatsApp I've heard I've heard from some uh Jewish parents that they they're getting their children and flip phones they call it kosher phones yeah yeah which by the way makes sense right I mean you are not religious or not the what's we can all agree that smartphones is really a entrance way to to Hell let's let's call it what it is I mean that's pretty strong but no it is that strong it is that strong and we all have and we we all use it and we all need it for a lot of reasons and it serves us well and it enhances our lives and but at the end of the day there's a very dark side to it this A really a dark side and and it destroys people destroys people's lives and as children are getting phones younger and younger they're get they're they just have the ability to be exposed to things that way fter not want do you mind if I ask you how old your kid is my daughter's only seven seven when are you going to let her have a SmartPhone I don't know have you thought about it I've thought about it but I I don't I'm not there yet I mean we're not even close to her having a smartphone if you had to guess the age I mean she plays games on all those things but she's not if you had to guess the age right now 12 I would say at 12 I think so yeah wow that's actually very young 12 full smartphone access to everything yeah I'm not so up and I'm sure by that time they're going to have even more controls you could put on but I know there's like parental controls put on those I'm not I don't I Haven had to investigate those just yet okay that makes sense but but I'm guessing the store in Israel probably is doing this because they want to make like something unique about them is that you know the the the wives are probably going to want to say you know let's go to this because they know that this is where we can connect there's no phone no distractions so that's going to become their like their thing that's become their thing right I guess that's the reason they're doing it m it's not a religious thing it's not like they're saying we don't believe in smartphones well they're saying that uh smartphones is not good for society and we don't accept it just like there are synagog so they sense world that's what it's about you can't go to certain synagogues and pull out a smartphone there are people that will yell at you and throw you out so this restaurant things that they're at the same level as a synagogue or church yeah they're giving it a a world where you're saying you can leave all that behind come here and dine with us yeah I think I don't know that's legal there there's there's there's something to be said for a smartphone is okay but there's also the opportunity we've all sat at a table with people when they're sitting on their phones when you're at a dinner table it's ridiculous it's rude it's not appropriate but it it's it's okay to own a phone and use it and also have the you know wherewithal to not use it when you're in a conversation with people at a dinner table yeah it's true I mean makes sense people take pictures of people all the time like you know when they're sitting together five people and they're all on their phone you know like uh that happens and uh that's okay but you know we have filters in our in our you can have a filter in your house you think I don't know what that is wow what is it a filter that filters what comes through the internet basically like parental controls something about just parental controls you saying you're going to have on the phone like you'll allow your 12-year-old to have Tik Tok um no I think I'd be able to no I mean I wouldn't want to 12-year-old being on Tik Tok do you think anyone should have Tik Tok yeah I mean if an adult wants to look at Tik Tok I don't have a problem with that okay I I do think that a lot of these things are you know just like you're talking about watching the Grammys it could be a guilty pleasure but it lasts for an hour or two hour or however long that show's on and then I move on people get stuck in this Tik Tok and these things for hours every day you know Tak yeah it takes up P it yeah takes a lot of time I mean we're living in a world now that uh Tak talk is a Hot Topic you know and uh is it back it's back I use temporarily I use cap cut to edit all my videos that I work on probably three to four hours a day uh for things that I post out and cap cut was banned I have no idea why it was banned but it was banned for like 3 four days an app that I need to use to edit my videos was banned in the United States is it also a chinese-based company I don't know anybody tell me I what's that there you go is part of why was Tik Tok banned though it wasn't because it's a Chinese based company China owns this company therefore this company is beholden to the Chinese do you care that somebody's watching your every move through your phone does that bother you I've gotten past it but it it there's something creepy about it I think okay so I to me by the way for the record I I it complement my life I actually like it yeah yeah I want you I want you to tell me what my favorite movie is based on my history I want you to advertise to me things that I enjoy I don't want to be told about yeah but I think there's the there's a slippery slope fear there that okay yeah now we can show you the movies you like but now we can also what I don't know I don't have a fear for you I know but there's something scary about it isn't there no not to me I I see the background scariness of it but we're living in that world where it's helping us so I'm not letting it but okay now it's sending people in China your credit card number yeah but you know what they could send people in borrow Park my credit card number I'd be more afraid to be honest does matter when it becomes a a security threat Michael yeah especially it's such a such a low National level everything has to stop I don't care that's the number one thing sure so stop using Facebook and everything else cuz Mark Zuckerberg admitted that they were listening to us wasn't it really taiw yeah that's not the reason why they're banning Tik Tok because of they sure we know this is going on no listening to us that's that's that's a separate conversation that's a security has nothing to do with with tic it's not the security that that you're talking about because it's China yeah it's going into the wrong China has data for of us that's Potential Threat that's the problem if it's happens is let's say it's owned by uh just a private person in in China yeah and uh China comes to that person and says the government says uh we want you to turn over everything all by law legally in China they have to turn it over right in America it doesn't work that way the government can't just come in and they got to get warrants they got to go through the court system they got to go through there's a process in China there is no process uh that one person is the whole process and therefore America we're worried about that so we want to have that control in here we want to store all that information do you guys know why the day before Trump became president tiktock banned it and then came like why didn't they wait like what Happ you know about this at all you wait for what wait for the presidency to happen and see what transitions you don't know about that whole uh I don't know look a lot a lot I don't know I don't know the why behind it all A lot's been going on since Trump took office and uh it's one of my numbers here but I'm just talking about it because on the tiktok he was literally openly negotiating um in front of the media about how to create a JV of Tik Tok I felt like I was watching a nursing home conference like shark like oh my God yeah shk like they're trying to do JBS like in front of the world and but is that the best way to negotiate it's unbelievable publicly yeah it's crazy you know that I I especially when you have that kind of Leverage he has all the leverage in I met an operator once a nursing home operator and this is like it was such a rude thing to do but it it's genius in a way but like I I don't think I would ever do it I'm curious of your opinion especially both of you worked for Medline and in the nursing home business for so many years he brought in two competiting competing vendors that actually sold a supply and he asked them both in front of each other to to pitch and say why they're different what do you think about that scut it's interesting it's certainly an uncomfortable position for the uh sales you ever have you ever been in that position I'm trying to think I've definitely been I've never been in that exact position I've been you know backtack meetings with people where I see the competitor walking out or or I see we just had that recently by the way they printed a badge of someone named Joe that works in our office and they gave him the wrong Badge of a of one of our comp editor type of people there's no competition to Prime source of course but someone that does something a little bit similar we're like you're speaking to the other Joe and we found that because they gave the wrong badge To Us by mistake yeah were you there I think that's very arrogant of that person to do that to bring in two vendors at the same time and them pitch against one another quite frankly if I was one of those vendors I would respectfully decline I would walk out of the room and i' say no I'm not going to do that um I think it's un professional and you're putting two people that are in similar businesses and they're both sort of like death fights like you put put people in the C here for my entertainment uh you to go and battle it out so I have a guy I have I have a nursing home owner that owns 35 nursing homes in uh Texas and in Wyoming and uh we don't do any business with him and he just started learning about the world of buying groups and saving money and he's making a decision to use our company or another and he wants us to sit there in front of the other guy and Pitch it I'd say 15 million contract and he's going to make a decision between the two of us he guarantees to make DEC and he wants us to sit there with the competitor you're not going so if I was forwarned about this he's telling me yeah yeah you're fored I could now make a decision if I want to do it or not yeah I could say you know what for the challenge obviously I'm talking about the guy was for warn they walk no he wasn't I remember that story he had two he was basically in in the spot he put two people right there and said all that is a different story you're right but it happened very that happened differently also that was that was really rude I'm might decline I still I don't care if he has 60 bons or he 3030 million opportunity the bottom line is what you and my girls are worth more than that okay so what are you doing are you deciding not to go I don't know if I have that situation right now let's talk about the moral issue I mean it's it's certainly uncomfortable but I don't I don't know if it I don't know you don't like that you don't like the if everybody gets prepared for it then yes I don't see it to be a big problem and I would probably participate okay there but when the way this guy did it though no I think that's that's completely that's gross I think that's I'm agreeing with you by the way believe it or not yeah by the when there's consent involved anything goes I don't care do whatever you want like that's fine I have no problem with anything if somebody asks and gives that person a choice and that person has the right to answer every he want I don't care what he asks I don't care what he answers there's consent involve everybody your adults do whatever you want who cares it's difference agreed unless you're a therapist yeah now when you put on the spot in that instance you don't have so much consent anymore because you feel pressured you don't want to lose the deal so you're thinking quickly and you're you're not acting really based on what you're what you would really want to do in those instances I think that's that's a bad thing yeah right yeah I'm giving you a personal virtual assistant the smartest virtual assistant in the world and it cost me only $20 a month right and he said chat GP and I encourage you all to use it and he told this to me a year ago and I started using chat GP chat GP told me that five hostages were released and there's only 10 left and I said are you kidding me aren't you web- based and connected to the internet can't you check that again and again it said I apologize I'm sorry I looked it over and and then again I had to ask him to find so to the CH GPT tell me that Donald Trump is still only has been the 45th president and he hasn't been elected yet chat GPT web- based paying $20 a month and I'm like wow this is very scary I can't rely on this information I can't rely on chat PT can't right although AI is making strides and it's going to half a trillion dollars invest is not adding up here it doesn't make sense what you're saying you want me to show it to you yeah if I type into chat GPT right now uh Donald J Trump who when was he president you know what maybe May it's going to tell me uh he was President 8 years ago or four four years ago um did you do this three days ago before he make sense what you're saying I know right absolutely ridicul I know I was actually with somebody when it happened to me and it didn't happen to me a few days ago it happened to me yesterday and that's two days after he was uh made president my favorite part is were just calling you a liar no he must have typed it in in a certain way that it it gave him the answer yeah that it gave but I sure sure sure well listen we get I I've used that's to blatant Michael I've used would have been called I thought this publicly it's too blatant it's what if I prove it to you that's very flagrant there's no way yeah no way you're saying wait a minute Michael I just did it and I just typed in when was Trump president and said Donald Trump served as the 45th president of the United States from January 20th 2017 to January 20th 2021 that's the full answer right do that does that not no I mine was much worse no no that's not that's not you asked when was he president right so now ask it who is the president or something like that you know like uh here we go is Donald Trump the president here we go I'm sorry guys I have it right here I thought this matters because obviously everybody knows anyway no one's living under a ro dude as of today January 23rd I I just wrote in who is the president as of today January 23rd 2025 the president of the United States is Joe Biden oh my god he has been in office since January 20th 2021 that doesn't make sense we missing something is you I'm missing something is there a technicality no there's a bias I'm swear to you guys this is frustrating to me it's frustrating because I'm relying on it for information and then I I I have a relationship with it I'm yelling at it you can't rely so much on ai ai is that's crazy you can't rely on a web based chat GPT that you pay $20 a month that was created by a person that we're investing half a trillion dollars into scary sorry it's a brand new technology sure brand I'm playing devil's advocate here
