it can be kind of startling when the quick succession of the sixth seventh and eighth commandment against dramatic actions like murder adultery and thievery are followed by the ninth commandment of do not bear false witness against your friend how could those important Commandments be followed by one against bearing false witness all the technical definition of this commandment is referring to swearing falsely in a court of law we're aware there's so much more included in each of the Ten Commandments than just the technical definition in fact many say that all mitzvot can be found from the Ten Commandments so what is this commandment trying to teach us we live in a world in which one's personal freedom of expression seems to come before everything else social media has made it easier than ever to humiliate slander and generally destroy people's reputation and dignity with the ease of a touch of a mass with pretty disastrous consequences statistics show that 1 million children have been cyber bullied over the past year on Facebook alone and it's been linked to an alarming rise in the suicide rate of children and teens perhaps God wasn't kidding around when he put the commandment against slander in the same verse as the commandment against murder the slandering someone is not only wrong when there's going to be clear concrete ramifications so why is it so terrible in those situations perhaps because the Ocoee are loath to admit it as we so badly want to pass along the latest piece of gossip words have a tremendous power negative words create negative energy not to mention the negative impact they have on us the ones who can so carelessly utter them this Shifu let us take us to heart and incorporate the ninth commandment in our lives in more places than just the part room by using our gifts of speech in a positive and uplifting way we can directly create more positivity in our own lives and the lives of our loved ones and ultimately the world thanks man
