He was a Hasidic composer, ritual slaughterer and cantor in pre-war Europe. He became known as “Berish Vishever” after the town of Vișeu de Sus, called Visheve in Yiddish. He was murdered in Auschwitz on May 25, 1944, at the age of 74. May his memory be a blessing. This deeply emotional melody reflects the prayer, longing and spiritual intensity of the old Hasidic world. It remains closely associated with the Satmar Sukkot service and the waving of the Four Species.
