[Music] la [Music] it has become in one year the most talked about uh event when it comes to Healthcare in our community here we are a there's Elder Care Plus keep the music a drop underneath there's ZK here we are az's Elder Care Plus a day of conferences and workshops a vendor Expo showcase like no other my name is n seagull and we are here for the next couple of hours speaking to some of the people that you will meet and greet here at the Elder Care Plus conference it's an opportunity and azra has done an amazing job in putting this together an opport Unity to come and get practical solutions to the many challenges that everybody out there faces as a caregiver we are here to speak with the people who are running this event we are here to speak with the people who are attending this event as vendors as speakers and learn as much as we can about uh all the answers to all these different questions that people have when it comes to caregiving last year azra embarked on this mission of doing this all in one day and Gathering as many vendors together and as much Community Information together in one place so people can take advantage and this year they've doubled the effort double the number of vendors double the number of people double the number of uh square footage in order to provide as much uh information as possible and as comfortable an environment as possible and here we are at the New York LaGuardia Airport Marriott until 5:00 p.m. which means if you are listening to us live or watching us live now you can come on down and take advantage of this incredible uh and amazing healthc care event a lot of amazing sponsors who are part of this uh Healthcare event and render is going to join us he's president of Aer and he could certainly shed some more light on what it took to put all this together and how so many Community um newspapers and organizations and health care groups all joined that Community groups in general all joined in to sponsor this event information about everything azra does you can go to the web at az.org about today's event specifically az.org eldercare Rabbi bar be Bender is president of a is there and he is the uh the person who could tell us all about this incredible event thank you very much for having us here and welcome to the show thank you thank you for being here thank you for adding uh your presence to this uh very special day I thank you for that I was just mentioning as we did our opening I was just mentioning that the uh the list of those who are sponsoring this event from healthc care agencies to community groups to newspapers uh to corporate sponsors is Mammoth every organization who runs an event would love to have a list you know what this it's a beautiful thing to see and you know what when you see all come together and actually materialize you know we spoke about it for how many weeks now and to walk into a room like that and see pretty much every Jewish organization involved in healthcare every company involved in healthcare and we're already hearing from one of our wish sh have mon mosha Adelman from uh from centers uh he was a big Mastermind who volunteered his time to help with this together he's already received phone calls here from companies you know how come I was notified because they're getting feedback already that you have to be here uh because people are coming here they're thirsty by 10:30 by 10:00 we had one guy you know banging on the registration table can I go in can I go in I said sir now go have a cup of coffee um but they're thirsty the buses came from Brooklyn came from Bar Park Flatbush Williamsburg uh cuz people want to be here they want to learn and uh it's definitely gratifying I told you it would be but to see it happen and to see people just so appreciative coming over to us in the hallway stopping us um before I figet I'd be remiss if not mention the wman family for making it possible for you to be here as we I'm sorry if I missed it yeah as we open this broadcast and this is in memory of shully wolman's father and to aova and shully and the whole family we say thank you and they of course understand the importance of the event and the importance of azer uh take us and and the urgency that you described the man knocking on the door how desperate he was or at least he seemed that way to get in yeah is an example because you youve felt this over the last year since the last Elder Care um um get together and that and that is that in the community there's a sense of urgency on a lot of these issues our parents are getting older my spouse is getting older and I simply don't know what to do and they're just panicked and they give somebody a phone book you know say go look through it how far is he going to get they're coming here they're getting everything Under One Roof uh and this person was a perfect example last night at 2: a.m. we were sitting here setting up and we get an email from a guy P not panicked is it too late to register no where you from oh we're from Boston Massachusetts myself my wife assistant law and her husband were getting in the car they showed up a little while ago two vans on lake would pull up a little while ago and uh this a man from Florida landed with his wife this morning you can see LaGuardia from one of the windows I know one it's here I promise I'm not just saying it uh and they showing up because yes there's an urgency to say you know what is there a better way to care for my mother it is something I don't know and I took you downstairs n to see those session rooms we're going to try to improvise now to make another one because there was no room in the I I mean like I said even our expectations which are high I like to dream you know that um have been have been wildly exceeded because for one reason like you'll say you'll hear from all the people who sit here people just you know it says speaks about you know CLA for too people want to be better children they want to be better spouses they can easily take a home health aid take care of Mom take care of the wife take care of this one but they want to do better than that and the evidence is surrounding us and you'll see it in the next couple hours that you he this is something this is a topic that's so prevalent in our community it's you've certainly touched the nerve to say the least uh and you've added some components by the way because it's not just information the complimentary health screening that's important because if we want to remain being good parents andely we ourselves need to take care of ourselves and uh within moments of them arriving people walked into that room we added obviously a nice a nice complimentary lunch which is important because people want to stay but they need to actually be able to function and be n so we thank Gman glad for that um we this year we allowed all senior citizens to uh have free admission you know what $25 is a nominal feet but some people it bites a little bit why because they're paying for so much in healthcare um and even today we're learning about certain features in this Hall where just to give you one example where you can actually care for a loved one and get compensated for the time that you're putting in you're losing time I think CD Pap I'm going to bring on the professionals soon who know a lot more than I do I'm not going to pretend to know right but I remember that I remember that whole thing there's just so much that you can learn and you walk in here and uh it's it's a tremendous to all of us it's a good time uh like you said it's just we're all here I think to just be better be better for our families better for the community so so far we and we have a couple hundred people who are pre who haven't even shown up yet right um so you know it's dramatic if the room was bigger would there be more exhibitors as per man you're going to hear from very soon name is mosha Adelman he says who was a tremendous part of the Mastermind behind this effort he says absolutely yes and he already told me bar I don't know where we're going next year but we are going somewhere and it's not going to be here I got to lower my voice the Marriot people will throw me out now uh but uh he says that we're going to f it you'll talk to him Melman will tell you about himself he believed in this cause in this Mission and he decided that we can do something special and like I said last year we you know had 25 30 vendors now we're dealing with you know close to Kara Kara whatever you want to call it but it's really a tremendous to everybody so the growth has caused the has caused you to have been outgrown at this point a good problem to have finally you added something this year in terms of addressing the uh situation of people who have children with special needs tremendous uh the response as as accelerated as a response absolutely you know you know what I've seen is that it's incredible to see how many people the conference runs from 11:00 to 5:00 are literally showing up specifically for this session once here you know what you know I do have an elderly mother I may as well check out that booth that session that company um but the fact of matter people want to come because these are topics that are are sorely needed to be discussed and they're not so bringing in guy like Dr marks talk about you know young children become older you know just this week we spoke to somebody who has 19-year-old special needs child he's 19 years old how much more complex are those issues uh if I could just mention by the way you know there's so many vendors there were three sponsors who stepped to the plate from the beginning in a very big way uh one was mjhs Metropolitan Jewish um which you know you'll hear from one of their representatives hopefully the santosa group which is run by our local Ben Landa from the five towns and the third was caring professionals who's been back not their first year uh becoming a corporate sponsor and whilea doesn't you know endorse any uh Healthcare groups the fact is that they've stepped up to the plate and said we believe in this Mission we believe in the cause and uh the result is behind us and we're very appreciative anybody watching this in the archive for and is wondering about any information can call your office and follow up with anybody who was here defat Ellie Weiss is just unbelievable Ellie's there he's already been Fielding questions all day here other the sessions recorded how can I get them well again I might miss this one that everything will be available in a few days on you know some on video some on voice recorders but it'll be available within due time but we'll make sure because you know the bottom line is people like you said will come back to it over and over just starving for information and uh we can't do it all but we'll make we'll give it our best shot Som it seems like you're doing it all we're doing our best all right bar Bender president of a a thank you yes unbelievable incredible effort and you see the fruits of your labor here today that's for sure we have mosha Adelman with us he's vice president of strategic partnership centers healthc care and he is going to be joining me now here at the uh n seal Network we are live watch and uh watch and listen at null.com videos on our homepage videos on the homepage of n.com you can see the entire thing as we uh as we speak mosha Adelman is Vice President of strategic partnership Center's Healthcare welcome to the show thank you thank you for for having us what is centers Healthcare we are a Continuum of Care Organization in New York City we're actually one of the largest Continuum if not the largest Continuum of Care Organization in New York state all right that means what to the consumer meaning that we provide all the various ancillary services that would typically keep up P an elderly patient out of the hospital living healthier longer in their own homes give me a couple of good examples of that good example is we have uh two home care agencies under our umbrella uh one is Revival home care as well as Alpine home healthare they provide short-term home care right uh we also have an mltc A managed long-term care company with three lines of business uh we have a Medicare Advantage plan as well as a managed long-term care plan as well as a fighter program all right so there's a lot of a lot of different options that you provide that's for sure uh you you were credited as one of the brains I help a little bit I helped a little bit well what is your impression as you walk into that room and see the vendors and the number of vendors in there I think it's beautiful I think this is definitely a uh you know one-of aind show I I think this I believe this is the second year right um I think this I think it's going to it's going to only grow bigger year you know year after year from this point on forward I think it's a great great event right uh we talk about our community and how I don't want to use the word desperate although I have ready a few times how people are focused on this whole issue of elder care and trying to take care for those who are getting older in their own families and in a lot of ways hopefully caring for themselves as well health screenings here Etc um what direction are we going is this just going to get bigger and bigger is it's definitely going to get bigger and bigger I think there's one thing we all have to realize and that is you know it's the baby boomer generation right now that's more or less coming of age right as we all know the baby boomer generation was the largest growth spurt this country has had mhm and I believe most baby boomers today are either in their 60s 7s right some in 50s right yeah some in their 50s and uh obviously the need for Health Care is uh just increasing right and um you know being part of I could speak for centers Healthcare um you know this is this is a time right now where you know we have many other companies under our umbrella that are participating here as well I'm sure you've heard of B Park Center sure B Park Center is here that's one of our 30 I believe 32 nursing homes that we have under our umbrella we have valmar surgical one of our DME companies they're present here as well as well as uh Revival and uh right and every one of those addresses a specialty that could be very helpful to families out there absolutely that each each each one of these companies provide a very unique service that would uh help Advance the uh the betterment of the patients that we serve right no question about that all right Mo idelman how do people reach you how do people get in touch with you in in terms of Center's healthare if they if they think that you could be of help to you to them and their family um well they can reach I can I can give them my own uh I can each company has its own phone number find you on the web they can find us at www centers healthcare.org that is our website and over there they have a listing of all the companies that are under the Cent's Healthcare umbrella right every one of those Services could be called directly if they do the research they'll see it all there thank you so much for joining me today than you there you have it mosha Adelman vice president of strategic Partnerships at Center's Healthcare we gave him the credit R Bend don't worry we gave him a lot of credit for all the help that he uh that he gave you and everybody here at azer to make sure that we would uh have an amazing vendor show case here today uh you're listening to nle network and watching us at null.com SCH chill is here he's the rabbi of the Young Israel of farway RAB by chill I'm gonna ask you to put this headphone and microphone on and join me here yeah why not give give uh where here right Ry Bender give Ry Bend yeah Ry Bender he could he could do it with that microphone already let Ry Bender give a proper introduction Rabbi go ahead absolutely uh we were going to put somebody else on but I saw R CH woke by RAB chill is a dedicated R of the unaz Rock Away one of the oldest shoes that exists in farak and uh R I'm sorry I'm not going to talk about ages here of course one of the youngest shoes but with the best Rabbi RAB chill is a dear friend and he's actually been a Believer and and a beloved you know friend of a since the beginning and to see him here today as an attendee himself seeing what what's being offered um and someone who's seen us grow from the beginning and here to join us is one of the attendees he's been a huge personal kizic so I just dragged him away from his rson and asked him literally dragged him if he can give us two minutes of his time why are you such a big fan of what's going on I'm still standing here yeah is to leave a real he's he's an unbelievable person uh we have been privileged to have AER uh they proved themselves it was incredible they they formed and then came hurricane sanding and they were indispensable and they were a role model for what a community could do with a organization like a and and they on The Cutting Edge of uh everything that the community needs including today's program yeah it's interesting that you mentioned that I'd be remiss not to let our listeners know that it's not I mean all these things every question that's being addressed today they can help with but in addition to that someone needs a doctor someone needs a specialist someone needs an emergency taken care of they're there on the spot maybe they may have been known for that even earlier than all these things we talking about so I I personally have benefited from a there was one night that I had the severe chest pains 2 in the morning and uh was there me I mean and then it was a question of being sent to the right Hospital getting the right doctors involved and uh and AER Renda personally was involved and uh when people have been nter suddenly tragically azra is there to take to make funeral arrangements burial Arrangements raising funds uh whatever is needed any Community incredible incredible amounts of on a personal basis for for for for for families uh they're they're everywhere and they they're there 24/7 what do you think as you walk around these halls and see what's happening here super impressed super impressed that they have everything that you need to know that you want to know the sessions are informative I just came from two sessions uh you learned a lot huh I I I learned a lot and I'm I'm I'm happy I came and uh I think for people who are not here they they're missing something well it's a pleasure to see you thank you so much a big and thank you for being a big supporter of the great work here uh ra chill is of course d by The angila Faraway and one of the many many Rabbi leaders that have a lot of very impressive and positive things to say about the work of a are both here today what they're doing here today and of course what they do all through the year a reminder that today's broadcast and webcast and the video that you're watching at n.com and everything you're following on social media and the nle network isas uh he the father of shully wman oh speaking of shully I see him in the crowd ZK get ready to pan over to our to our friend uh auua and shuly wman have dedicated the uh the program in memory of shuli's father there has been a we're going to turn our cameras that way as there's been a sighting let's turn the let's turn the cameras in that direction ZK there you go turn the camera this way right here you we have fun on these Sunday shows give him the handheld oh yeah you have to have the handeld I forgot very good ZK he remembers you see that he remembers your specific specifications uh ladies and gentlemen as you listen to us and watch us around the world the program again is father of shulie wman auua and Shuli and family have dedicated this broadcast to his memory shully wman welcome back to the N seal Network thank you how are you very well very well what are your thoughts as you uh see what's going on here today it's an unbelievable event as I always said AER is the star of all organizations always there to help and uh Elder Care Plus is a one-star place for all your Elder Care needs and believe me we all know about no as you know your mother was a very nice lady but there were always issues going on yep there's always something going on and uh my father Shalom was always assisted by AER and even till this Daye my mother should live till 120 o azer is there to help for all her needs you know it's funny I uh when R CH was on a few minutes ago he was talking about unfortunately he was suffering chest pains zzar jumped in with hatal of course and the right doctors were found the right Hospital Etc you could probably sit here and tell us 5 10 20 30 stories of people who in EM forget about this which is amazing this event but in emergency situations who needed someone to just respond to them and azer was there there's always a story uh we don't like to go into specific details so as I can say about my own family azer was always there it was for my son's throat uh my my niece's Friday night uh cut over her eye Aza was always there pick up a phone to bar and he has a plastic surgeon on standby always my mother when she fell the best plast the best uh surgeon um in town was there Dr Kenneth mochic and he was there to help my mother and I really appreciate azer on behalf of aova and myself we really appreciate AER well thank you and uh we talk about how certain organizations grow and the challenges are too difficult for them to bear this organization grew because the superstorm Sandy in an instant to an unbelievable level and they never backed down they never they just kept going forward never turned anybody away as I said at my first speech ofak dinner we started off at uh like that time was baseball well now translated into football where you start off in the in minor leagues and we moved up very very fast to the major leagues and we scored in the World Series and we won unfortunately it was a Sandy Storm we're not a winner we were there to help and we're always there to help no matter what it is no question about it uh this isin obviously that means a great deal to you and that you went ahead and did this and wek thank you for that and his should have an alyah and we should celebrate Sim together amen amen thank you very much thank you very much bar on the team thank you shulie wman everybody look at that ZK can't resist but give you a round of applause how do you like that now he now he's checking how things are with the ceiling so go ahead thank him for that and thank him and no he wants to know about the condition of the rain that's what he wants to know we are here live at azra everybody uh we're a uh thank you uh where Elder Care Plus is going on the conferences and workshops and the vendor Expo showcase you can come here until 5:00 today it's the largest Healthcare event for our community over 50 exhibits a special session for children or I should say families with children with special needs complimentary health screening going on and many many sessions and workshops happening as we speak uh you can come anytime between now and 5:00 the vendor showcase is pretty amazing because everything is Under One Roof in one room and there you have an opportunity to check out all the different uh organizations and services and companies that are know I was I didn't know I was I didn't [Music] know well Rabbi bar bear Bender said to me that the real RAB Bender is here and you'll understand why in a moment because obviously it's his father Raku Bender who is here and has uh and is playing a role here today as well Ry Bender an honor to have you here thanks so much for joining me thank thank you for having me what do you think of the event so I think it's stupendous I think it's it's really unbelievable the crowd that's here is magnificent I think they had a dream a had a dream to have on the One Roof the idea of that the from Community um could have a place to look for all the different variety of options they might have for their parents is something very very special yeah no question about to me is is a dream come true really idea if one stop shopping anything one might need I think it's a concept that time has come yeah no question it's very very special having that's extra it really is thank you very much you are a big person today I appreciate that not wow uh bad for I want to go visit him this week I want to of course yeah I I I know that in past years I don't remember the topic exactly today because you speak on so many different things but one time you actually gave a session on keep it out aim there are so many things to keep in mind as one cares for a parent could you give us an example of that Inspire us with a with with with a word about how important it is to remember that there's a concept of a Mitzvah my goal today is going to be a little bit to try to how to how to remember how to have in mind at all times I think the key thing to remember I think is is that the promises us very fewz one of those is and one day we H that our will be there for us we shouldn't need too much of the help we HED we grow old and ripe and strong healthy like had no issues whatsoever when he was 120 years old but the concept of being able to be there for our parents special I had my mother-in-law lived with us for a few years I think it brought light in the home I really think so I think it was very special and in many cases like that and my mother lived next door to us for 23 years BR isn't a br for the children I I went at her funeral I said that that tonight is the first last night was the first night my children slept without their grandmother next door which was and when you think about it it's so is a long time and 23 is a long time it's a you don't look at it as you can't look at it as a yoke and a o you have to look at it as something that's special an opportunity having parents rather this on the other hand I could say from my experience it is and thank God my Kim is okay but I I could say how difficult it is to keep that in mind to remember that there a lot of frustrating situations a lot of difficulties to deal with and certain ways with technology today might be easier that's what I want to speak about today oh very good technology I think maybe was created for us to do Mitzvah with it and that keep our parents close through technology those who are living far away Israel or South America wherever you might live I think technology can help us make it close we're going to try you're very inspiring thank you so much for joining us thank for having me I appreciate it bigender of course uh he's going to be addressing these topics at the azra Elder Care Plus session today and everybody is invited to come on down and to be part of this we're the we're at LaGuardia Airport at the LaGuardia Airport Marriott and everybody is invited to come and be part of this over 50 exhibitors a special session regarding children with special needs and so many different groups that have uh joined on as sponsors of the event um earlier and as Ellie Weiss joins me earlier I Bender mentioned mjhs Metropolitan Jewish he mentioned santosa Ben Landon company and he mentioned caring professionals this is this is a this is an opportunity to uh to thank them for really being you know everybody here obviously every sponsor is paint playing a key role but they're absolutely but they're really there for everybody yeah they they're really been exemplary examples of what an event sponsor you know has been not just on the business side of things but they've really been on the working side of things as well excellent to work with the staff you know and they care about the cause and that's why they've joined with us because it's not just about the exposure but it's about you know helping the broader community no question Ellie Weiss is here development coordinator at azer so how many weeks were you working on this event yeah it's a good question we had our first meeting back here in the hotel probably in May June sat down with them to try to figure out you know if this venue was going to work last year we were across the street in a smaller place but we uh definitely were here since May or June and then you know as the summer as the summer waned that's really when I started getting into it you know making phone calls and make get things is rolling and you're essentially at capacity now right I mean this is the for this for this specific uh venue I would say unless we put another couple of tables in the hallway I don't think there's any more to go so you're basically at capacity you're you're happy you filled the vendor room with all the vendor as you could at this point right and uh you know we won't talk about next year but one can only imagine how much bigger this event can get and then the workshops and conferences that you showed me are pretty amazing because there's no room in any of them practically and even the ones that have room it's still full like there's still plenty of people taking advantage of everyone so obviously you're hitting headon problems and situations that people want to address well absolutely and a lot of that comes from the feedback from previous events you know last year obviously was a little bit of a smaller scale but we had feedback and figured out what's popular and what people want to hear and just just you know like R Bender always says we like to have our ears to the ground and understand what people need and need to hear and we try to tailor it you know to their to their needs right can you give me an example of something that came from a suggestion of a 10v absolutely um we have a session that's geared towards helping you know injury prevention in the elderly safety you know a lot of a lot of slipss you know right said he quoted Mars Smith you know um who had attended a conference in Israel and where they basically said that 50 to 60% of you know uh ultimate F people who pass away can be traced back to a fall correct and that's that's something specifically which came from feedback you know that that was one um obviously the dimensional one's always very popular right um and the special needs children that came from that came from feedback you know we said plus someone said what's plus you got to add something you got to do more than just the basics so yeah and in a lot of ways it doesn't seem like that wouldn't be exactly on track with everything else you're doing and yet that becomes one of the most popular things you're doing here yeah that's a very interesting point but it's it's healthcare related in that sense so so it's it's the elder care but it's the healthcare side of things also not every single vendor here has a service for the elderly but it's it's healthcare related so that's a session that's Healthcare in a sense L yiss is here development coordinator so development means that you want people to support a to whatever degree they can that's that's the conception usually but you know I like to say that I don't do the the fundraising reender likes to say not yet but you're developing the organization yeah we're helping the organization grow in areas you know other than case workk specifically but we're trying to you know building like this and developing it from something smaller to something bigger obviously with the help of a lot of people the most Aden and the most ooms of the world right you know but uh for now we try to Stow you from the fundraising but uh we'll see where life nonetheless there is a website and he's trying to leave me there.org W 24 hours a day seven days a week in addition to that if someone needs information Beyond Today and like I always say people like to you know listen to this and watch this even after this event is over so if someone wants information I would also want to watch you after the event is over so if if nobody wants information about any of this if they're in touch with your office obviously you could lead them the same way you've LED them you've led the vendors here you could lead them to the vend that's it you know we want everybody to come away happy the attendees as well but within a couple of days we'll have you know the photos and the videos and the audios that will all be up on the website you know I have some work cut out for the next couple of days but uh definitely they can follow with their office and if they missed the session because there was two going on at the same time that they couldn't get to oh yeah certainly call the office that's a common Problem by the way that's a scheduling challenge you know youo with snicky Works in our office along with uh Mrs get the new Felder I've been there's mother-in-law been you know spent a lot of time and hours trying to figure out the schedule which ones would overlap and you know trying to figure out how people can get to the to the most sessions you know at once right if they miss something then hopefully they can hear it afterwards all right Ellie wise thank you thank you for having me thank you for all your help thank you ley's development coordinator here at azra az.org for information az.org for information on the web of course and you can contribute there as well this is an organization that is in need of funds all the time they're always there working to make sure that uh everybody has has what they need not just uh physically has what they need but has the information that they need so they can go ahead and continue um life as normal as possible take another music break back with more coming up we're live at azer actually we're live at the New York lardi Airport Marriott AER program here at the N seal Network plenty more happening if you keep it right here at n seal.com this is the n seal Network [Music] speee [Music] for fore [Music] [Applause] that is both audio and video uh that is the father of shulie wman and we um and we thank auua and truly woman and family for dedicating the broadcast in his memory here at the N seagull Network shops is joining us shopsy shrier is here the legend himself shopsy Sher is here legend himself look at this this this gentleman acknowledge but when I said you're a legend this gentleman right here acknowledged that in fact you're a legend obviously You' rubbed off on him over the years good to see you Steve saitz always great to see you one of the first people to believe in our efforts ZK Steve savitzky don't walk away without hearing that one of the first people 30 years ago to believe what we do on air every single day with Steve svitz and it's a very small group of people in that category so I thank you and God bless you you hear that did you know that about him no I didn't know that but I'm not surpris I tell you a handful of people 30 years ago took me seriously and he was he was in that I'm telling you I can count them on one hand that's what I could go back 40 years and tell you when n was running W when I was playing on the Yu basketball team that's true that I knew I knew he had success in future in that you did believe I'd at least graduate that's true shopsy shrier is executive director the private PID division of caring professionals you guys got a big shout out earlier there are a lot of organizations that are sponsoring this event but you guys really are one of the backbones of this event explain why caring professionals felt it was worthwhile to be such an important part of this event but you can't uh talk about caring professionals without uh giving kudos to the owner Miriam Sternberg who for many many years it's not only a business uh caring professionals it's also exemplifies everything that a is about theed work that Miriam has done over the years since I've known her is is remarkable and we just work hand in hand it's not only about business it's about helping people and that's what I've been doing I've been in home care now for 25 years wow and I had to run my own franchise and everything that but I always told Miriam when I finish the franchise I'm going to come work with you because this is an a kite that it's it's not only about business it's more about give the person what they know she called me just last week she calls me up says Beer's on the phone had nothing to do with business somebody needed help going to the doctor can you help out so of course I took time out found somebody I got a call back the next day H what a wonderful gesture W I didn't make it it wasn't about a business it was I help the yish in the sh you know and that's caring professionals provides what for the consumer what are the things that they do caring professionals it mostly provides home health aids for the you know everywhere all the five burrows and and Beyond we do Nas you know a little we're expanding into Westchester M you know Rockland County it continues to grow it continues to grow it's again we're only as good as the people we you know an intense training program we're we very sympathetic to the kous effort and also as Medicaid has changed we're rolling out a brand we've rolled out in the last few months and lay a for is here with us she's going to speak about it later on she's on the panel to discuss what's called the cdpap program whereby besides R AIDS Medicaid has rolled out where the families are able to have family members take care and get reimbursed for taking care of their which is amazing I this I discovered because I was in a similar situation is you know I couldn't believe the thing exists it's amazing and it's very helpful obviously and why not if it's being provided people need to know about it so yes so that's what we were trying to you know go around and sign people up and make people aware as people are walking around I think everyone keeps taking a brochure layers like the busiest person in the thing whenever you have a new program that benefits benefits the people so it's a wonderful this one just makes sense I mean people are taking you know valuable time and obviously to be reimbursed for it makes it a lot easier uh caring professionals website anything you want to tell people about reaching you guys yes Le you want to can yeah sure grab this Leia forer just stand right here Leia Forester is joining the conversation yes thank you for being here how you doing first of all I'm a huge fan thank you and we're huge fans of yours how do you like that oh stop okay this program by the way just um I want to speak about it for a second if you know someone who is currently having a home health aid and is not happy because they don't speak their language they don't dress according to the way they want they don't give them the hours that they want meaning insurance is very tight they give you like you're having someone 10 to five they don't run the kitchen the way you want exactly and that's very tough for a lot of family members that are thinking my parents deserve deserve better than this I can do a better job but they have jobs so they can't leave their jobs and take care of their parents full-time well guess what now they can we pay really really well and we expedite the all the paperwork and all all it requires is for you to actually come in and register and we set up a plan of care with the parents and this way they can finally do what they always wanted to do take care of their parents and we actually had an amazing story now of a father in Muny that wanted to move in with one of his children and unfortunately I guess his kids are all very busy and don't have the time but he was authorized for 24-Hour care and that means it comes out to about $4,900 a month and when I called up one of his daughters and I explained to her the program she said if that's the case she was able to separate a part of her house just for her father and she took her father and to live with her and in a way it sounds like okay she's making that money but at the same time her father can now live the rest of his life with his grandchild and children and get the care and love that he better quality of life yes and I mean it's just a win-win situation now this isn't for everyone that's why caring professionals has this amazing Home Care Program also this isn't for everyone cuz some people really do need that medical attention and that professional and in that case shopi is the pro at that at home care but this this cdpap program is revolutionary and it's definitely going to take over the Home Care um the way that the system is running best way for people to get information the best way is caring professionals.com that's the best way and you have every option on there every language on there Spanish Russian English Yiddish we have everything available for every kind of person so Leia thank you shopsy thank you big you talk to both of you and they're in the vendor area boy they are very popular there in the vendor area and you'll see there on their caring professionals uh Mr Ronald spurn certified elder law attorney and from what we are told it is his sessions that might be the most popular sessions here at the Elder Care Plus event Ronald spurn welcome to n seagull Network thank you a pleasure to meet you Mr seagull appreciate that thank you very much why is your session among the most popular according to the word here at the venue uh I think that uh any discussion that's going to devote itself to how to protect one's assets uh has to be Paramount uh among all of the wonderful programs that are being presented today um certainly we need to know about the medical and social issues uh Etc but how does all of that get paid for so what I am uh working with families uh to do and to accomplish is to set up the proper uh mechanisms how they can shelter their assets for their longevity and then uh be able to legally qualify for the uh available benefits programs such as Medicaid whether it be in the community or uh in a nursing home uh and uh how that family is able to uh avoid or plan for the uh astronomical costs associated with that care is there an average astronomical cost per year for this type of care or or in your experience it really could be anywhere well uh I think it does fall into some uh groupings of numbers but we're also talking about uh New York State and even to parse it down a little more in the metro area so in the metropolitan area um some of the nursing homes uh and we talk about private pay uh could run anywhere from 10 $11,000 a month cash to 15 or more ,000 a month uh that's in a nursing home setting when it comes to getting Care at home it's really going to depend upon the number of hours and I see all sorts of numbers across the table but the nursing homes you kind of fix that because you're there you're a permanent or long-term resident but Home Care some people uh can get away with uh 4 hours a day 3 days a week and some people have um Round the Clock 24-hour day care and uh my late mother Al shom who was on the Medicaid home care program for 12 years before she passed a couple years ago uh at one point I contacted the city to obtain what's called a CDR a claim detail report a settle what is the uh bill it was over a million dollars after eight years of wonderful care that we were able to arrange through the city and that's the same type of uh service and and care I try to bring uh to the families that I meet with Ronald spurn is here certified elder law attorney very popular here at this Elder Care Plus uh conference um a lot of people are not prepared for all this they just don't realize that at some point this is all going to set in if things go according to you know natural progression so to speak it's all going to set in and obviously the more prepared they are uh the better it's as simple as that um I wanted to ask you about the uh the length of this process you described for us that you know families go through this some would love to get it done in a week others understand if it takes 2 years what would you say to people who are anxious to get this whole procedure done all right so going back on a comment that you made just a few moments ago uh it it does take uh some time uh to do this and anecdotally speaking because I don't keep uh accurate statistics I would say that three4 of the families that come to see me and need help in this uh precise situation have done no planning right uh and uh as is often and already behind schedule that's right we're behind the aall so uh absolutely now to uh uh uh go into your second question absolutely so we need Advanced planning for Home Care Services we're able to typically get uh families eligible or individuals eligible for Medicaid home care within 30 to 60 days here in the five burrows if it's out on Long Island in Nassau and uh suffa counties it could be 3 months but for a nursing home type of situation they need at least 5 years of lead time but that's where a professional comes in an attorney who knows how to work all of these uh um uh issues and is able to let's say invoke spousal refusal or there is maybe a child who's a caregiver child that lives in the house so there are numerous Medicaid exceptions that we always try to look for first and and that could dras Al reduce the amount of time or somewhat reduce the amount of time and I know it puts you on the spot because you can't speak about generally I'm going to say somewhat because you cut it in half it's possible to cut it in half it's possible to cut it in half and sometimes like if it's a spousal situation and we're invoking spousal refusal it could cut it down uh 100% right almost immediately right wow you how many cases are you dealing with at once uh so right now I would say we have ongoing let's say about two dozen active cases and and everyone and everyone needs a lot of attention every one of absolutely I mean we have to give a lot of personal attention and personal detail and uh I'm not able and I choose not to just take every case and uh that's one of the reasons why I very much choose to associate and be Affiliated uh with azer and and this event is is great for that it gets the word out and to be able to be available for uh the people uh that really need it lot of inquiries oh I can imagine were you asked any questions better than mine today or not uh a couple we got a couple of good questions and I just found out give me one example of a question where you said wow that's a good question okay so uh one example of a good question is um since my parent is only allowed to keep $840 of their monthly income Social Security pension benefits and we know that um Medicaid takes everything above that and my parent is getting let's say $1,840 so there are ,000 over the limit that there is a device known as a pooled income trust that enables that money that would have otherwise gone to Medicaid be repurposed and used for the living expenses of that parent $1,000 that that they walking into your office never knew they could take advantage of right that happens a lot that happens a lot so that's big to be able to help people like that it's tremendously gratifying that's great great question and great answer you wanted to add something before I'm sorry um no just uh it's great being here and uh I appreciate this and best way to best way to reach me is uh I guess you could uh just go on to my website uh it's uh www Ronald spurn law.com SP I RN yep thank you uh and uh that's really uh the easiest way or to call and uh contact azer uh we have a great working relationship with them and uh we'll do our best to make sure people are gazon and taken care of pleasure to meet you I'll tell you you're helping a lot of people I can relate to these circumstances you're helping a lot of people thank you so much Ronald spurn certified elder law attorney a lot of great information a lot of it being distributed here at uh at this amazing event the um azer Elder Care Plus event um we have here Dr Paul rosenstock who is the CEO medical director of doctors on Cole medical care for the homebound now this is a good service not that the other services aren't good a lot of things we're discovering here today are very very good this is a good service um Dr Rosen welcome to the N sigal Network thank you thank you there was an ERA in the United States of America I would propose for maybe 25 years or so if I had to pinpoint it where no doctor had the mentality to visit a home right we went from the house call era which I basically grew up on the cusp of and then to an Era where nobody would ever think of leaving the doctor's office to visit any but and now suddenly thank God because it's so helpful we are discovering like your outfit we are discovering that doctors are now willing to go that extra mile and walk into someone's home and treat a patient is this the new trend um somewhat I have to hedge on that because most Physicians still are so overburdened that they cannot physically uh do an adequate job um we have 70 providers now that service the five burrows and Long Island in lower Westchester um and we're overwhelmed by the demand most of these people that we are servicing are home bound cannot get to the doctor and uh find it very difficult to be able to even negotiate um limited amount of movement outside the home people with Strokes people who have amputations people have dementia um people are simply frail frail in outly they can't and now with the winter approaching it's even more difficult right the um the advantage now is that we can bring all the technology into the home we have x-rays in the home EKGs in the home ultrasound in the home lab tests in the home everything can be done in the home that can be done in the doctor's office un and we're moving now into where we can do eye exams in the home podiatric exams in the home minor surgery in the home well that leads to my next question and and that is you know how specialized can these Specialists be who visit the home like I mean could we can we do well eventually with the Advent of tele medicine we're able to in fact I was just speaking to a Dermatology friend of mine we're actually going to bring in dermatology into the home whereby we have tele medical devices that can actually visualize with high resolution what the leion is as if they're looking at it directly they're looking at directly themselves that's pretty amazing yeah so we're we're moving because it's funny because situations I've been in doctors will say yeah the P you've sent me the picture but it's not but you're not talking about regular pict you're talking about literally what it looks like what you would see if it was in front of that's exactly and one of the things that we're looking we we see different types of patients we see patients that have just come out of the hospital and we get them back to their primary care physicians and there we looking at medication reconciliation they come out with three different medical regimens they had one that they've been taking for seven years one that they doctor changed three months ago and one that the hospital just gave them and we I'm laughing i' I've been through this we literally walk in with garbage bags and we say we take this one throwing the garbage that one's going in the garbage this one's going in the garbage so and we straighten out the medical reg so we Act extension of the primary care physician then there are patients that we should make it clear they're disposed of the way they're supposed to be disposed 100% I mean they're not narcotics but even so disos yeah and the second thing is that we take care of chronic uh patients that patients that can't get to the doctor we in fact become the def facto PCP but uh primary care physician but what one of we view ourselves as an additional layer of care this is a an area that's been sorely missed in the past several years and now with the graying of America where in 2025 we 2025 there will be 25% of the population will be over 65 years of old age and so we are witnessing a huge growth in this population the baby boomer population is Aging in and uh there is no there is a shortage of 10,000 primary care physicians in the New York area is that a fact inre this area in this area you think New York's got all 10,000 primary care physicians are are insured and so we are hopefully um fulfilling that need we take most insurances um and uh most man Managed Care insurances as well and so there's no out- of- pocket expense to these patients and um the sandwich generation the children that are actually responsible for taking care of the parents and have children of their own are welcoming us and being able to deal with um this type of uh this this type of situation there there's no question that's a very very big challenge when one has to take care of two generations and to anything that helps make it easier believe you me it can be very helpful Dr Paul Rosen stock doctors on call best way to get information about what you do uh well they can call us at 718- 238 2100 uh or they can look at our website www doors onall nc.com doctors spell it out drors on nyc.com and 718 238 2100 and we can see them in the home with even with a day's notice and be able to get out there and take care of their problem pleas meeting same here great job I'm telling you very helpful to a lot of people without a doubt we're the plus conference and Workshops the vendor Expo showcase near LaGuardia Airport at the marott on dimar's Boulevard you can come by between now and 5:00 pm to be part of all this uh give me Lydia's um pronunciation of her last name gallion Lydia gallion is with us senior vice president of mjhs have a seat please and welcome to the show excuse our informality but after all it's radio we're based on radio so uh anyway pleasure to meet you Lydia pleasure to meet you thank you very much mjhs they have been getting Kudos in the last couple hours that I've been here like crazy why has mjhs made such a commitment to this event we made such a commitment because as I walked in here this morning I saw everyone present here is a partner of ours mghs is committed to providing the right care the right time in the right setting we're Integrated Health System for me walking in here I knew everyone this morning we partner collaborate to do what we can to keep New Yorkers at home and safe comfortable and happy a remind everybody uh who's listening and watching uh what mjhs is and what it does for the community thank you very much as I said mjhs is an Integrated Health System we have the largest hospice and power of care uh program in the tri-state area we have the option of inpatient hospice beds when you are uh close to meeting your demise and in need of an inpatient facility whether in a hospital hospital or in a nursing home and we have a robust Home Care Hospice program and I should add by the way some of those facilities I maybe all at this point are absolutely beautiful state-of-the-art and incredible I know that's personal exp you walking in here uh this morning I you know I've been doing this obviously for a long time walking in this morning and really being partners with so many of the skilled nursing facilities and the hospitals it's a different time now Healthcare is a different kind of business you know the hospital has to move someone off the census or out of the hospital so we offer the option of utilizing the bed and at times like this uh when we have another Medicade reform in the hospitals I've given the charge of reducing hospitalizations and rehospitalizations by 25% over the next 5 years we really provide answer they must demonstrate a 25% reduction and hospitalizations to participate in the Medicaid reform District money and get their share of $7.2 billion we are on the district committees and uh providers of all the uh District contenders in the New York area and let me just go back to what is mghs because I got off on the hospice right away we also provide the only communitybased Pala of Care Program we've recently opened uh pal of care Institute educating most of the hospitals and partnering true partner ships where we're onsite providing the Pala of care uh Services it's a very very exciting time as life has changed in the healthcare world you're very positive and this is an industry that frankly has become a big Challenge and obviously Nationwide it's a big challenge but you seem very positive about its future I'm very positive about the future when I I deal in addition we have a robust Home Care Program I look what's happening with the joint Replacements and the changes that are taking place January first in that you know people are getting uh knee Replacements hip replacements and they're out of the hospital in 2 days and the doctors are charge with avoiding the Skilled Nursing Facility giving not only giving the rehab at home but getting them off the home Rehab on day 19 into Community Pace uh based pts look you know what if we didn't raise Medicare 266 obviously we have to do something uh in the New York area and really working together and partnering we can provide the right care the right time in the right setting and make Health Care still a successful business well I mentioned that mjhs was singled out uh for the dedication that you've had to this event and it's much appreciated of course and a continued success it sounds like as I said you're very positive but it's a very challenging time ahead it's a challenging positive and I think this is a great event to really exemplify how well we all work together senior vice president of mjhs Lydia gallan a pleasure to meet you thanks so much for being here uh more coming up as we continue I want to take an opportunity to thank Jamie turel who is not only a great n SLE Network staff member but today is serving as a great producer of this event not an easy job anybody who's done it knows it so thank you Jamie and of course thanks to ZK who's handling everything behind the camera and behind the microphone Martin Schwarz is with us he is president of stay-at-home Solutions uh Martin Schwarz welcome to the N SLE Network thank you very much and even though the name might suggest uh exactly the answer to my question nonetheless tell us what stay-at-home Solutions is stay-at-home Solutions works with individuals families home care agencies the whole healthc care industry to help individuals to apply for Medicaid simple as that huh it's not that simple yeah that's that's true if anybody if it was that simple I wouldn't be in business if anybody should know that it's me I agree with you it's not so simple but the way you described it is sounded a little simple Medicaid in New York is more well let's say the Medicaid system is more liberal here in New York than in any other state of the union especially if you're looking to apply to get Hare Services the process first of all in other states every County in each state administers Medicaid the way they choose in New York the criteria to qualify for Medicaid is the same across the whole state so that makes it a lot easier for people like me to help people to apply for Medicaid understood also in New York because of the fact that so many people today use the emergency rooms as their primary care physicians which is costing the hospitals millions of dollars every year Medicaid really is trying to find ways to get everybody to qualify is there a way to do that yes especi nursing home Medicaid is a different animal and harder to get people to qualify but in the community for instance if somebody has $250,000 in the bank the the the maximum allowable for one person is $14,000 if you work with someone like myself or an attorney to take the amount of money that's over the medicate allowable and to place it into something called an irrevocable trust you can take $240,000 and move it legally and protected and the next day show me a bank statement that says they have less than 14,000 and we can start the Medicaid process understood wow uh Martin Schwarz is with US president of stay-at-home Solutions uh is there a website is there a way w www.ss solutions.net SS solutions.net what do you think of the event behind us what do you think of the vendor showcase the workshops that are going on what are your impressions I was at last year's and this is really a step up from last year's event I'm I'm really happy I'm really happy that I came to this event and I I want to leave with the message that anybody who needs home care services and they need Medicaid to pay for it because it's really the only payer in New York that will cover anything for Home Care servic is they can have it if they if they really want to work for it very that's a very reassuring for a lot of people Martin Schwarz thanks so much for joining us today my pleasure a pleasure to have you here uh T knam SLE Network as we continue you want a break uh yeah let's keep going we're meeting too many nice people here you getting everybody on camera there ZK yusi zerman is that the correct pronunciation that is valmar surgical medical equipment this is the guy I should ask about my uh extra extra extra large posttop shoe this is the guy who probably has access to a shoe that is longer than 12 and a half inches long am I right ZK we we actually made one that's actually specified just for you we actually named it the n seag one well if you're joking with me I'll tell you right now you got me in a very sensitive time because I'm desperate for it can I put you on assignment can you see Nationwide if somebody would send you a 14 or 15 inch long uh you know shoe like this we definitely can can you imagine if this ended up happening because we visited azer azra has an amazing track record here here they may be able to fulfill one of my needs what is the valmar surgical medical equipment explain it to me well we're actually um we're affiliate of the center's Healthcare Continuum of Care right and we provide equipment and uh and as uh supplies as well on a monthly basis for all the patients that need it yeah and by the way somebody who's being cared for at home and again I speak from experience maybe it's a maybe I had to go through this experience I can understand everything that's happening the amount of supply the number of things one needs to address all the medical situations that an elderly person is in can be it could take up an entire uh you know an entire room Frank well you know this I know but I'm trying to get the point across to people that they don't realize just you know how much they need folks like you in this type of situation 100% and I'll say more than that that's why it's very important to you know be on top of it properly and know how much is needed and what's needed and when and when it's needed and it can get a little bit overwhelming and we know Healthcare today in general just to you know what I'm eligible for what I'm not what I can get it gets very overwhelming the whole picture not only about the equipment you know whether it's medication or Transportation or Aids and all of that so I think that's a big advantage that we have being that we're a part of a Continuum a big Continuum of Care being senses Healthcare and we work together with all the different you know parts of Healthcare in that respect it's all about getting it right it's the communication it's which equipment as you mentioned how much of all how do I become eligible how do I make sure that when I'm getting discharged the right equipment is going to be there the right supplies are going to be there you know what interesting and I'm thinking of supplies and obviously but the way I reacted to our the initial part of this conversation it was about supplies but you mentioned equipment people don't realize what type of equipment is available to help somebody who's in difficult situations at home where there' be things that lift people chairs that are you know made to just make it easier to get up and there probably a thousand other items you can go through with us but there's but in every it's 2015 there are so many technological Advan advances at this point there's so many things that people could use in their home to make things easier give me another couple of examples tell me something that people wouldn't realize is now available out there to make life easier well well first of all there's the typical things you know you're talking about something maybe a little out of the back but there are the typical things but even within the typical things we talk about a walker there's so many different types of Walkers chair with the chair without the chair where we within the Walker where you're holding from behind and there's a lot of these nuances where people don't realize and they just say I want a walker and it can really make a difference depending on the patient and depending on their needs um when you talk about wheelchairs which seem like the typical you know Mobility device there's really a fullon and there's a there's a lot there and that's why we always encourage people call you know we we have we have a very know that's why I asked you I'm searching Nationwide for a longer shoe that's why I asked you telling you you're going to you're going toar yes fmar surgical medical equipment is there a website information what do you want to give people out there sure sure well definitely you know you can always go on to our website the www.v valmar surgical.com um we also l m r there you go and we also encourage people uh email us we email or call you email us at it's info Valar surgical.com write this down we get we get all kinds of questions we get all kinds of requests and that's really what we're there for it's about uh pulling it together and um you know definitely as we're pointing out over here as I mentioned earlier being that we are an affiliate of centers you can actually get to our website from the Master website which is centers healthcare.com and we're you know we're one of the Affiliates over there are these people all Valar people uh some of them are of course we have OSHA Adelman here I want to give a shout out to him I know he put a lot of energy and effort into this particular he denies it but everyone tells us that cor no he he most definitely did and uh just in general you know uh you know being a representative of somebody that's the face for a lot of the work that Cent's health does uh you know definitely somebody that uh knows his Healthcare and is here to help all right and I want your email address your email address you got it we're going to work on this project together all right more coming up here as we continue at the a single Network Solomon Englander is here from infinite Services my gosh if they live up to their name at infinite Services then this is an endless conversation I can tell you that much Solomon Englander welcome to the N Seagal Network you got to put that on what's going on your phones are ringing phone's ringing okay how are you sir good infinite Services that's that's a pretty gutsy move to call yourself infinite Services you know what I mean are tell us about infinite what is it they do we do therapy services for Pediatric and adults uh that's from the uh School based to home care and nursing home Staffing we as a company we're a young company five years in in the industry and we find that therapy is a big challenge because especially from when you're talking on the on the adult side you go into a patient before you're in you're out right so the difference that you make in a patient for those was two three or four visits is crucial and the fact that we to get to every patient's home which home care based is based at home we have uh there's always a challenge covering all areas of each burrow and uh between speech and occupation and physical therapy it and be able to cover all all corners of each burrow is challenging so we find that uh very helpful that agencies like home care agencies or ja or um people in the schools are helping we we definitely come in to help them at Solomon Englander is here a lot of people are familiar with some of the physical therapy services that an adult may require what are among the things that a pediatric patient may require like what what are the types of things that your staff the people you send out there would do for them for the kids okay there's there's two sides of it uh one of one side is uh dealing with chronic um disabilities on on pediatric side people born with uh some disabilities or we can help them to uh overcome some of it to make it easier more comfortable in their lives to be able to to maneuver to be able to to be a part of society and uh that's we that's something that uh we definitely come across a lot of times that we are able to change um some families in a way that these children feel that they are they have a life in front of them they they definitely can do something more than just um uh focusing on the handicap side correct learn a new skill whatever it learning a new skill or or helping the the weaknesses to strengthen the weak weak muscles or is anything that in regards to speech helping them speak better it boost their confidence especially on the Pediatric side as a child they they they have usually a lot of these kids have emotional um issues just because just the The Confident level is not they don't feel like the same like any other kid so that everything around that definitely helps them to feel that they're definitely um there's something out there for them and uh when it comes to the name infinite Services you mentioned that the gutsy name uh I do believe I do say you're right it is a gutsy name but the fact that therapy some people don't realize that therapy is the core um part that people need from the Pediatric to adult side when it comes to home care for sure HH is is important to help maneuver but the therapy side is if if you help a person post app or anything regards to therapy will help them live better and uh maneuver their lives better and uh that's definitely where the therapy side comes I like what you point to that with the self-confidence because it really does even if someone's making a small amount of progress as long as they're pursuing it it does help their confidence helps them get through the day and then through their lives that's correct because they feel they've accomplished something they feel good about themselves when we human beings we we we we on on accomplishing something we feel that we are coming right people want to uh they want to get to the next level even if it's a small little jump um infinite Services information how do people reach you guys uh infinite Services we have website is infinite services.org and through the website you can uh email us info at infinite Services any questions in regards to therapy we will definitely reach out to you uh one of our strengths is make sure that we reach out to whoever reaches out to us even even if we cannot help we will guide you to be able to find where and which channel of would help you uh get what you need uh Solomon Englander thank you a pleasure meeting you yes just one word one other word I want to say thank you to personal friend MOA adman and Elie wise and Bor Bender it was a pleasure that mosha reached out to me a few weeks ago you got to come to this event they said well I'm a young company what is it going to do for me and said you're coming and I want to thank him and thinker organization it was definitely worthwhile and I do appreciate the fact that I can be a part of it thank you very much you're getting a lot of you're getting a lot of shout outs today come on I thought I was the attraction here mosha I don't know you're doing a great job uh Misha heler from Grell rehab is here uh where is Mishi how are you sir have we met before yes you look very familiar to me we actually met you Noti the guy TK we actually met you had a friend um I forgot his name he was a doctor that was in grandal rehab he was a guy from Florida uh you came to visit him with all his kids he had this crazy story that he was almost like uh like uh he his foot had to be amputated I forgot his name doctor from um oh my gosh of course I know who you talking about so one second so how does and oh and of course and I visited and Long Beach that's it right before Sandy that's it right right right sand right right right yes so you're there the same building yes yeah same building we survived wow this is some Reunion yeah so wow if only you knew the half of it this is some reunion um so you fill in the other half of the story he started out in bar park by some Mah shabas or something he told me story how you got to meet no it wasn't it wasn't M shabas it was a uh a day in bar Park where uh he came to visit us while we were doing a show at Hightech 2000 there you go Penny angle Penny Ringle and um this doctor came and uh we started a very very long-term relationship which goes on till this day and right I remember his recovery there is your building still there after this super storm it is AB was it closed for a while or not was closed for we evacuated only one month only one month what happened was the Department of Health made a deal with us with all the nursing homes that evacuated that if we were to be back within a month within 30 days that we wouldn't have any losses and they would pay us for all the the the care that we took care of those patent for the month yeah where did people go for the month we actually evacuated them to 20 different facilities literally and it was you know I was making in the span of two days probably yes absolutely we were working around the clock it was unbelievable was making Mitzvah everything at once and we evacuated them was unbelievable we had Goldie Steinberg I think you met her when she was there she was like the the oldest Jewish uh living resident and she was just sniff on our she would have been 115 she was by us over 11 years she made the news yes yes absolutely 114 she4 yes yes yes unbelievable we pride oursel she was living at benzers for 70 years were there other facilities in that area that did close for more than a month or not yeah yeah I think the facility that was connected to the hospital was closed for like 3 months actually yes yes we were lucky we worked hard and we were able to be back in a month yes absolutely grandell rehab yeah what so now if I would go there it's the same place it was same place great staff great staff lot of good equipment and and necessary uh absolutely we did major Renovations we did over all the rooms we have a tremendous amount of rooms overlooking the ocean we actually recently about a year ago got a state-of-the-art treadmill it's called the alter G it's a $50,000 treadmill that we're the only facility in Nasa County that has it uh the Manhattan hospitals all Columbia monsan all of them have it it works with a anti-gravity type of feature where you get like zipped up with a pure pants and it it it it takes off the pressure off your feet so you could do Rehabilitation even though if you had a hip fracture or God forbid a stroke or something like that and the recovery is in in no time so we're bringing in state-of-the-art equipment like when your friend the doctor was there he wanted to have that special wound care machine which was like you showed me how you could light a light bulb with it it was unbelievable so we're a kosher facility we have the vad B of Queens we cater to the there yeah almost every day I'm more of like a corporate administrator but there's a firm administrator there as well family-owned and operated and we're really proud of the work that we do grandell rehab and Long Beach New York phone number website what do you want to give our listen phone number is 516 889-1100 and our website is grandel rehab.com p.m az.org eldercare information az.org eldercare for information [Music] the [Music] fore [Music] for I'll you [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] Saye for [Music] la [Music] I'll he [Music] Bab [Music] [Applause] [Music] T now seal Network suan Phil goldfeder is here he is uh he's synonymous with Azar's work because and I'm sorry for laughing but um he's somebody who could cite thousands of cases of where azra stepped in to help people that's for sure let me do that for you there we go a much betterman goldfeder welcome back to the Alam single Network thank you so much for having you're one of our favorite people out there you know that oh you say that to everybody that's not true and you know that I thought I was the politician see I do it as well as you do you like that huh just don't run for my seat that's all who's the gentleman sitting to your right this is uh my much bigger older brother uh who taught me everything I know about politics this is Morty this is Morty gold he really did teach everything now he's he's one of one oh here grab the microphone thank you Morty for joining us he used to beat me up a lot growing up that's what they that's what he say I don't know I don't believe the word he says he's a politician exactly we have to be careful careful be wary should I do this now for 10 seconds before we get into our conversation so you know uh you know that you know you know you're a cousin to one of our favorite people good old Sheila you know I don't think I've ever done a show where Sheila hasn't come up correct and I just saw I think I just saw a bunch of other relatives of yours by the way since you're related to everybody but anyway all right why is Morty such a key person tell us we know why you're such a key person why is he such a key person you look our parents taught us from a very young age it's important to give back and and be a part of the community and help wherever we can my brother actually is uh one of the senior coordinators at the New York City office of emergency management he's been a me a member of the FDNY for a long time and uh over the last how many years uh 20 22 years 22 years 22 years at the FDNY and recently now working at the New York City office of emergency management really one of the senior people there making sure that New York City is prepared for for whatever could come our way very involved with the recent legionnaires outbreak and so on so uh look our our parents raised a family of public servants and uh I'm proud to following my brother's footsteps well he certainly should be I mean the the categories must be so diverse in terms of what you need to repair people for ab natural disaster there are God forbid terrorist attacks there are you know there a million other things that could happen in this big city I mean uh so we we try to give guidance for many different uh uh types of events and we have specific guidance but the most important thing is having being prepared and having a basic plan because a basic plan will take you wherever you have to go that's a good start that's true and that's why that's why you spend a lot of time out there telling people this and advertising it and make sure that people understand it I wonder if people are receptive to it I wonder if people have have gotten it I think when you have an event like Sandy come around uh people after that are really receptive for a number of years until you know sort of they forget 5 10 15 years them yeah that's what we do absolutely do are we legitimate in our unabashed admiration for the fdn Y is it too much is it understood is it crazy the people who you I'm not talking about the kids about everybody who have the who are enamored by the work they're willing to do and the risks they're willing to take is it a legitimate feeling oh absolutely absolutely I mean the people who who do it not just myself but uh I work with uh uh over 10,000 other people who do this and it's it's it's great work and the people who do it they do it for a reason just my brother said Public Service it's not just about they mean it when they say they just want to say absolutely absolutely I mean you can't whether it's running into a burning building or saving someone who's in cardiac it's a uh Public Service it's a it's a great feeling what do you think of this event uh this is amazing um so I spe I work specifically in the health and medical planning unit where we do plan for major that's why Legionnaire is one of your absolutely legionnaires and we had Ebola before that but I'm dealing with hospitals and nursing homes evacuating during Sandy during Irene before that even though Irene may have passed over New York City but we still had to evacuate people don't know that how glad were you when that storm that we what was the storm that just we glad were you when you heard the last weather report on that one that's correct you must have breathed the S of relief me and a lot of people in the community I got to go home for shabas that's true iene and Sandy I didn't I mean it's just unbelievable when you think about it the the I was getting tense just hearing the reports and I'm not in an area like yours which is more so much more susceptible I think and and I'll tell you this and obviously being having gone through Irene and of course gone through Sandy as everybody saw I mean this time we were a lot more prepared we all as far as I know me and my friends and the neighbors and everybody who I try to I represent we had suitcases prepared we had plans in place they actually thought of leaving of actually leaving actually leaving when the city tells you to leave you actually leave listen to instructions but your brother talks they'll learn a lesson they better a listen that's exactly right I mean he was uh when we first heard of the the warnings coming down for I mean my brother was the first one I called and said is this real is this real he says look it's it's absolutely real we have to be prepared and you know what the was Sandy was I'm sorry for diverting but you're here already based on the documentary that I saw 10 things had to go a certain way for that to happen and all 10 happened which is like almost impossible to believe right listen it happens I mean you know uh uh we don't control the weather I understand that and by the way with all the 10 things we were still lucky because if there would have been more water more actual rain would have been 10 times worse absolutely if you recall it was one of the most interesting things the winds were were incredible there was no rain none whatsoever and that was the big break if there was a break can you imagine that's we're always reliving this and I'm telling you about reliving it but people say that they said oh what do you mean this hurricane is not going to come but the thing I say most is we we don't control the weather he could turn that hurricane in in one minute and it can turn back to next they were ready to shut the subway system again right they ready for the whole thing AB absolutely we were prepared to do it we had everyone in place to do it I would say uh they sent down about 50 people from Albany just to be positioned here and ready to do uh the work that we had to do to get unbelievable uh what do you think of this event Su in Gold feter I think this is amazing whenever you can bring people together Partners together to find ways to work together to get things done to make sure that we're servicing everybody in the community it's an amazing amazing day I mean I spend most of my my my days are trying to bring whether it's government agencies Partners in the community together to accomplish and uh today is just another uh proof that you know when you put the work in you can really uh really get things done 100% it's amazing what's going on here and it's amazing that it's double the size of last year oh it's only getting bigger I know how much more demand there is for it it's incredible well I thank both of you very much for being here thank you always a pleasure and a pleasure meeting you convey that sentiment to the FDNY if you don't mind AB there are people who greatly appreciate what they do and of course everything that OEM does you can convey to us for everyone to go make a plan that's true make a plan for emergency 100% easy guide uh follow along it's I'm sure it's online right it's online 32 languages Hebrew Yiddish you get it we have here in Yiddish too so uh uh it's easy guide to people to get a basic plan for any emergency in their house great idea thank you Morty pleasure than thank you very very much thank you very much more coming up keep it right here at the nak seal Network as we do our uh webcast which is dedicated to the memory of Yakov AB Le a Shuli wman dedicating it in memory of shuli's Father here at the Alam seagull Network [Music] B for [Music] spe [Music] for [Music] on the F woo [Music] B for [Music] all right it's an aqu sorry about that it's an aquam seal Network here we are as we oh one second r one second hang on a second luckily I'm here to save the day all right there we go uh we are here at the Elder Care Plus event the event is sponsored I should say our webcast our live appearance here is sponsor I want to thank the wman family for that and we have many special guests here today Rob Alan Zone I said when uh he sat in his chair I said we don't always have uh Legends sitting next to me I'm sure he was very uncomfortable with that is kadisha of Queens National Association of kadisha expert on the Hal living wills and I thank you very much for being here at the N SLE Network thank you very much for having me nak I really appreciate it what do you think of this event um I think the event is great I just walked in but I've been at past events so I know it's excellent I think people really don't know very much about elder care until Unfortunately they need it and there are a lot of things that people should know in advance no question and one of the things I really am here to talk about is the fact that what everyone really needs to understand is that American law today if someone is uh over 18 and they come into a hospital and they cannot speak for themselves there is is uh really no one who has a right to speak for them not even a parent by law only a patient has what is called patient autonomy patients can make decisions for themselves however if there is a question where a hospital wants to uh do a certain treatment or not or refrain from a certain treatment the hospital feels that it's not indicated in this particular sense but a family wants it because another doctor may have said it's important or because uh for religious reasons they want it done or not done they basically have no right other than the patient itself that's the law in some states like New York State there's a limited amount of power that the family has yeah the one thing I'm not getting is how does this manifest itself in other words what type of situations do people end up in and families end up in because it is well if someone's uh for example someone may be declared brain dead God forbidden right okay so obviously they can't answer for themselves obviously they can't speak for themselves right now uh there are many stories of people who are brain dead but who eventually are now walking around and doing uh having a very miraculous SoCal miraculously uh and very often doctors really believe that now there's a question there's a test that's given to make sure that a person is actually brain dead test is called the apnea test now Hally a r may say we don't want you to take that apnea test because if you take that test you're going to be declared brain dead and hierarchically that might have all kinds of ramifications which the hospital may not want to agree to there have been people who have taken the apnea test okay or who have refrained from taking the apnea test when it was going to be given who have then recovered fully but we don't know what would have happened if the apnea test was taken hospitals today many hospitals once a person fails the apnea test they will absolutely insist on pulling the plug okay that goes so farther than uh one of the very big medical chains in the city perhaps the biggest in the city we've had cases where they've insisted on pulling the plug when helically the rough pusk and you shouldn't pull the plug but uh the hospital that was their policy that was what their Ethics Committee decided and they were kind enough to give the family 72 hours but if the person did not come back after 72 hours they pulled the plug they went so far as to fill out a death certificate that was dated the day they took the apnea test to make the point that this person was really dead for three days this is a New York Hospital this is a New York Hospital New Y chain of hospitals a lot of times we these things happen outside of major Jewish community no this is in New York now the point is everyone everywhere New York uh the Wall Street Journal about three years ago had an article I believe is on the front page about estate planning they suggested that every person this is not Jewish every person over 18 as a right of passage should fill out a healthcare proxy what a healthcare proxy does is it designates someone that can speak for you that has all the power that you would have as under patient autonomy makes sense nevertheless for Jews there's another issue besides the issue of a healthcare proxy which obviously is is is huge there is the fact that hospitals generally encourage people to fill out living wills now living will is something that says I want X I don't want Z I want God forbid if something happens I'm not functioning don't resuscitate me or yes resuscitate me put me on dialysis don't put me on dialysis all of these different things problem is as Jews and if we want to follow Hal how in the world could be Poss POS do that at a time when things are just U perfect we never know there are so many variables that would require us to First ascertain before we made a decision so for us Jews it's not enough to fill out a healthc care proxy and a living will we actually have to have what is called a halakic living will which means that we name the healthcare proxy and rather than say I want a I don't want B I want C I don't want D it says if there's any question the proxy should direct that question to R A B C or D I pick the r and i know which R I'm comfortable with and that's who they will follow RAB zone is with us um how does one get to be an expert in K kadisha and why would you want to have become one well let me put it this I'm one of those people that unfortunately fell into this job I was involved as a member of the kadisha for the vad of queens and at one point there was a need for someone to take over the leader ship I was just graduating I just got my SM I was looking for a job and since I was very involved in the I took over for a year or two just to find a job and then leave problem was I was very good at it so what happened was is after two years when I got the offer for the perfect job the vam insisted that I go to uh aov and get aak that I'm allowed to leave so we finally agreed on rakov kineski aona and I flew to Florida and I spent two days with him 3 hours each day and his pach was that unless I can find someone who is willing to do this with the same dedication who's going to put in the same amount of time and is going to be willing to make this their life's work and really build it I have no right to leave because CLA Stoll needs it so here I am that's how you end up becoming an expert in this field and you're quite an expert and I hope we'll have a chance to explore some of these issues further and more in depth it would be an honor for me and hopefully forward to it thank you so much the kadisha of Queens National Association of kadisha living worlds an amazing expert panina Mesi is here how do you like that this must be a very prominent event if panina Mesi is here uh we're going to start wrapping things up we have an exact time ZK what are we up to here 2:44 Eastern Time 244 eastern time could you imagine it just flies by when you're at an event like this you know you ever notice that just flies by uh more coming up here at the nakam seagull Network we'll uh do our parting words and plenty more here's Yuda green as we continue [Music] d [Music] la [Music] la [Music] la [Music] la I [Music] la la la [Music] la la la la la la [Music] all right that's you who to Green listening to N seal Network we are webcasting here from the uh Elder Care Plus event in Queens where the crowd continues to build and more and more people continue to come in uh the broadcast Isen want to thanku and Shuli wman and the wman family for dedicating the broadcast R Bender is back in this case I mean r Bor Bender two hours later I Bender what report can you give us about what's happening behind us two hours after we last spoke I think the first I'll say is my father's in the building I'm going to go with bar bear okay I just don't feel right saying R by Bender if he's in the building got and I have my mother here also which I'm very very uh to have her here it's a very big honor for me to have both my parents here today on a serious note and uh you know I know the two people who would have loved to have seen this event were actually my my dear grandparents Rabbi Mrs and my mother's parents there was nobody who taught us more about what it means to be a family person and RAB disc was legendary in flish everyone knows RAB dis was rabira for probably I don't know 30 years whatever it was and my grandmother we to have her move into us for several years and I was able to I know I'm going to get in trouble for this to see my parents taking care of my grandparents the the lessons that we have and the lessons that my children got from seeing their Bubby take care of her mother mother I mean I get goosebumps talking about it now so seeing them come today to such an event both of my grandparents were passed away both within the last 5 years about and we missed them and I'm sure they would have been very proud seeing today what another generation is going on and embarking on to take care of their loved on so uh that's just a personal anecdote what's interesting about this event is that there going to be a lot of changes in a lot of lives to this event uh there are people there are people who never thought that they could take in a relative and help them in that way that would be too overwhelming people who thought the opposite that they'd ever be able to you know find a better situation than at home and a lot of changes going to be not to get too serious and I like to have a good time but I did pop into a few of the sessions and what I've seen from these sessions is that people's eyes are now open yeah and now they know what the options are what's even I just came from downstairs you know there two sessions going on one is called I'm not sure if I went into detail earlier you know stay-at home or nursing home right and they're being laid out these clear options when is the time to go when is it not appropriate when is it not safe and then going on also which is really tremendous especially for that Brooklyn crowd out there you have Mrs Henny Friedman what an inspiration she's from flaish her husband unfortunately dealing with some terrible form of dementia this is publicly being said today along with a neurologist Elliot Solomon you cannot get in the room downstairs it was one of the biggest rooms and there people were unfortunately couldn't get in because people are just so I saw this hours ago they're just desperate in their thirsty and uh it's a tremendous you know and uh just seeing look around you seeing the types of people you know you know from all walks of life from not from some not Jewish that doesn't make a difference no question people came here CU they wanted like I they want to be better at caregivers and I think seriously that one of the reasons today was such a success and we knew it would be a success walking in because of the you know everything that happened beforehand is because I think everyone knows that they could turn to you even when it's not this Elder Care Plus event they know that you know is always going to answer the phone they're always going to answer email they're always going to be there at a moment's notice for any emergency that comes up and I think that that gives every a reassuring feeling like if these are the people that are ready to do anything at a moment's notice for us and if they put together an event like this it's got to be worthwhile we appreciate you saying that and uh especially because you've said so many times a certain word which we don't like to talk about anymore it's called Sandy talk about Hurricane Sandy people ask you know bar what are you guys up to now that Sand's over and uh it's it's not really funny but the idea is that we're back to the basics and know there's no dramatic hurricane going on and know tomorrow Monday morning there's no dramatic elder care but I guarantee you that the staff you saw the entire day is going to be in the office and our goal we had a staff meeting two weeks ago that's almost like you bugged the meeting n I'm like s how do you know this and we sat there at the meeting and we said we could talk about programming all the fancy initiatives that we're going to do and just take care of people but there's one goal for this meeting that is when somebody calls us we pick up the phone somebody sends us an email we answer the email emergency not emergency cuz yes for some people the emergency May be some heart transplant if the guy calling about his broken toe or about his mother who can't walk up the stairs that is their emergency correct even though an Our Eyes maybe you know is that really everyone's call is important so we've had today several people said can I call you tomorrow if I miss something who's Esther noac she does your intake is she here so's in the background saying no no I left I left I left no but she no she says I'll be there and uh she'll be there tomorrow morning and so the rest of the team uh just being honest here a little bit been a long day um but the bottom line is no tomorrow morning's we'll be back at work and uh people come through our holes you never came to the office yet we have to get you there oh you have what am I talking about many times what am I talking about I need some food and some sugar but uh people uh that's your emergency right now I know no but to be very focused and and razor sharp the fact of the matter is that there're when you come into our office and you see these people and they inspire me the people that work I work with they have nothing else that is on their table there's no other motive there's no other agenda there's no other Mission other than one thing to answer the call and make sure that people need help they get it so uh we hope that we continue being able to do that and the biggest BR I've said on your show numerous times and shly W can attest to it we always joke about what's B going to do when a closes I it I pray it does I will not be bored I say it publicly here I will find something to do with my life I promise you so the biggest BR we can say is that we will no longer be needed but uh what should I tell you it's been a special day and you guys definitely added so much presence here I thank you for having us az.org for information in 5167 N1 4444 right bar thank you
