Beef Up Our Boys Featured with Chaim Rutenberg on JM in the AM

Hour number two for a JM in the AM on this tanis Esther. It's the fast of Esther. It's erra of Purim. Kaim Rottenberg got in touch with me yesterday as we were thinking about what said we could highlight this morning here on JM in the AM. We were thinking about maybe doing a news analysis, but I mean, you know, I don't know. I don't know if anyone's in the mood for it. Everyone understands the situation. Everyone understands what the American military and the Israeli military is doing. And everyone understands that we are praying for the enemy to be eradicated certainly to be thrown off course. We are praying for the Iranian people. They get the freedom they deserve. And all these things are bouncing around everyone's head. So I don't know on this Tannis Esther eriff purum. I didn't know if we were in the mood for news analysis when people are just, you know, being dominated by this news cycle. So, we figured, how about spending some time on over 100,000 soldiers who had finally begun to breathe a sigh of relief from all the reserve duty that they had encountered over the last couple of years. over 100,000 of them are called back into service now at the beginning of this war with Iran. And as Haim Rutenberg uh reminds us, we've got to beef up our boys. So, over a 100,000 soldiers, over a 100,000 uh men and boys in Israel have been called up, huh? >> It's uh it's almost like Hashem's knocking on our door again, say, "Guys, wake up. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up." The last time I experienced what I experienced today was if you remember on Roesh Adar about 20 years ago in Yeshiva I think yes and they had I think eight carbonos were murdered there. And today I was we literally we dug we dug a few graves and to see the holes to see the crying to hear the voices and to realize we're on tanis Esther we're on the day of of saddaka and and the the royer as we all know is is is disunityity is people not feeling connected and there's one thing that we took upon ourselves October 7th was to to talking all the s by pure pure abasum >> and an idea that yeah and it it's just it's just really really challenging and and it's actually dominating by the grave of Gabrielle Barak a sweet sweet boy who was murdered with his family literally maybe 500 feet from where I'm speaking to you. Yeah, we haven't we haven't even spent time on that story, but my god, uh, Gabrielle and as you say, his family in this terrible, terrible episode in B she a total of nine people killed. Just unbelievable. Um, and this story that you just mentioned, we have a personal connection to it because it was 18 years ago, 18 years ago on the 29th of Adar, the day after my father passed away that the boys from Meas Harav were murdered. And yeah, we we we we we move forward a generation and uh the same types of things are happening. The enemy continues to have this desire to destroy us, to destroy us physically and destroy our nation in every way possible. So you just said that all these terrible negative things that are happening and that we've experienced uh there is a tik there is a way to uh do some to help those who are in a very challenging situation these days. So tell us about the cause. Tell us what's happening literally today and this week. So what's what's happening today is that we we at beef up our boys have not stopped our efforts from October 15th when my nephew got beef jerky and we got a request from the head of logistics for 200,000 soldiers for tens of thousands of packages of emergency and non-stop calls ever since then. And there was a little bit of a slowdown in the war for about eight months. >> Right. For us, there really wasn't much of a slowdown because the units we're giving to are combat units. They go behind enemy line and often they carry what's on their back for six days. And this this unit, I'm not going to mention the name, one of the most elite units. Their commander was handing out the beef jerky to them when they're about to go into Gaza. And he said, "You guard this beef jerky with your life. One bag of beef jerky is equal to four cans of tuna. And I think it's worth a lot more than that because it's portable. You could eat it when you need to eat it. And it's just a phenomenal gift. They're able to give. It's a gift from Shmayan that Hashem allowed meat that perishes quickly to be preserved and it loses its weight yet retains its kashras and everything. And we ended up opening a factory in the seep right next to Gaza that closed October 7th. and fiat like Niss communal mazo communal luck. >> What was the what was the what was the statistic you just quoted? He said that a beef jerky is what when it comes to a relationship to tuna. >> It's equal to because the the general protein that the soldiers carrying with them are cans of tuna, >> right? >> Which just imagine carrying heavy metal cans of tuna with you. You open it, it leaks everywhere. You got to finish it within minutes. And this is their food. This is how they stay alive. And the soldier said that they're responsible for each other. They need to balance their sleep. They need to balance their food because if they lose their fighting force and here I am a few hours from the end of the fast and I'm a little horse, a little tired. >> Imagine if I was carrying 60 kilos on my back and you're lacking food. >> Oh boy. Okay. Uh I we just donated here. We just donated folks. It's very simple and and really laid it out. A 100,000 soldiers in addition to those who are generally deployed at this time. 100,000 reserveists have been called up. It's very simple. They need to shle along food with them to make sure they have enough and to get through this war. I was in my uh mad my bomb shelter when the bomb went off yesterday. I literally thought that the bomb hit my backyard. I my I've never felt something hit our house so hard. And um but everyone came out to help. Everyone's part of this. You all the people from the volunteers, the MADA, everyone came to help. No one no one stayed in their bomb shelters. Everyone came out to help to make sure these families were were taken care of and the injured and and B4 boys is just like that as well. You know, we're not we're not in this for anything other than we want to make sure that our boys are taken care of and our daughters and our sisters and our brothers, they're all out there fighting for us and we all, you know, we're we're in and people in America, England, and everywhere else, you know, they might feel like what can I do? Obviously deting is very very important but we can do something tangible as you mentioned already that we can give a a check we can make a donation a quick donation and that means automatically money the the food goes right to the soldiers we need that money we have to we have to prepare for pes we've cautured our our our system but we have to prepare the meat for for pes last year unfortunately there were many times where boys you in our army were eating matzah and and and tomatoes for seven days straight. We don't want that this year. >> By the way, I didn't even consider that. You got Pesak coming up. The meat folks is Kela Pesak. You have an opportunity to make sure that the soldiers again, not just the reservist because we're hoping the reserveists are home for Pesak, but the ones who are generally deployed, we have an opportunity to make sure they have good kashel Pesak meet. And obviously until we get to Pesak, uh, that they have what they need to make it through the day and as we said earlier, make it through every single week with nutrition and with something that they could actually eat and something that's really easily um, uh, slept along.
