uh reading right now is uh is uh grman David Grossman's new book or relatively new book um we just started reading it I usually read these BIOS with my wife uh uh on Shabbat uh and we started reading a couple of weeks ago I don't know what to tell you I mean there's Angels Among Us and we did not even know I've known about R Gman for a long time but not in this way not so so uh so close uh it's it's just Mas it's an angel among men Angel among men it's m Angel among men and people would think by the image of Gman that he's like one of these Care Bear rabbis nonsense nonsense His Image is one of the uh the things that fools people the most none you read his book you see what he says and you see his the reason why he succeeded and continues to succeed and lives a thousand years not 120 years a thousand years doing what he's doing and M building m a city a city of kadus turning the biggest criminal city in in the land of Israel into the holiest city of Israel single-handedly obviously lots of help with people and so on but he built a city of Holiness a city of Holiness how emit emit couple of stories I could remember there was one time uh a uh the uh the Russians moved book he writes that the Torah does not discuss life on other planets I.E aliens it doesn't say they exist and it doesn't reject their existence but nonetheless it's not mentioned because they have no impact on us meaning that there's no UFOs coming from from Pluto and flying over here in in in you know Over Texas and mowing your lawn that's not happening that's not happening and anyone that knows a little bit about it knows that most of that stuff was complete fabrication people were doing it uh and they were excuse me they were caught doing it but there is no doubt that there are certain uh images that people see uh that are uh unusual uh they're flying they're going into the ocean then back into the air surely there are you know there are sites that are there uh is that necessarily uh aliens from different planets no it doesn't need to be aliens from other planets it could simply be different creatures that live in this world that are just simply not common whether it's not common to see them because they're Angels or demons or they're simply not common as far as they're not like a zebra or a lion but nonetheless they exist in the world because because there are many creatures that are mentioned in the tah that used to populate the world that don't necessarily exist anymore uh so again I personally think that many of these things are fake altogether uh but the ones that are real could very well be a group of angels a group of demons a group of uh different types of creatures that exist in the world but are not usually uh uh things that people see because Hashem doesn't allow people to see them but sometimes hasem wants people to see them for different reasons and therefore he does this but uh surely there's no place in the to that I'm aware of that uh mentions uh any of these uh aliens from different planets that are coming to this world is there uh uh life in other planets uh as far as if you're talking about there's aliens and so on no uh not not uh uh not uh to say mean no like they don't exist but no it's not going to be like something that's uh going to impact our life uh but there are other uh uh other creations in the world that if you saw them they would look like aliens to us because they look nothing like us and that is mentioned in thear and in the Z uh especially if you look at the uh that discussed the life of where he brought some of these Creations to his kingdom uh very very small people or people with multiple heads or unique type of animals so there are uh there are creatures that uh exist uh that to us would look like aliens but again they're not aliens they live in the world they're just not coming they're not coming uh there is uh a lot of the things that people see uh in movies uh that with the exception of all the promiscuity and the filth uh you know a lot of the stuff that you see actually has a source in the tah it's not Innovations it's not creativity it's just somebody hearing the story from somebody that at one point learned to learned the mid for example uh the whole issue of uh people that turn to wolves that's in the Tor Benyamin one of the 12 tribes the sadik that never sinned one of the four whale that lives in the in the world or the which is enormous animal bigger than even uh your dinosaurs uh or uh the uh just a lot of different creatures that live in the world or the Phoenix is what they called in English it's a special bird that was blessed by Noah and uh it was blessed to live forever so every Thousand Years the mid says it lives for a thousand years it burns up and then resurrects it and it lives for another thousand years and resurrects it and thousand years that lives in the world it's this beautiful bird uh that was blessed by Noah uh and there all typ of creatures in the world so if you see those creatures or perhaps some of the Angels uh that hasem has in the world or some of the Demons or some of the mikim or there's so many different Creations in the world that surely these will all look to people like aliens from a different planet because they're not used to seeing such things but uh I I promise you that uh it's not from other planets but rather it's if it's real it's from our planet it exists in the world and it's mentioned in the Torah okay one more question and uh then uh we're uh going to be done I'm kind of tired um Rosalie my mother is Christian how do I honor my mother I'm not a Christian and I follow to uh well honoring your mom is a if you a uh uh uh you want to honor your mom there's no problem to honor your mom as long as she doesn't tell you to violate the toah there's no problem to honor your mom as long as she doesn't violate the to so if she tells you to go get her something from the store if she tells you to help her in some certain ways that are reasonable if uh she uh if if she's the sure you could help her for sure and you could honor her for sure but if she tells you to desecrate the TOA if she tells you to pray to some statue or some yos or something like that you're not allowed to honor her now why would you honor her if let's say for example a person converts to Judaism uh do they have to honor their parents uh that are not Jewish yes they do have to honor their parents that are not Jewish but not because of the mitvah of honoring your parents because they're no longer considered your parents they're considered your biological parents but not your spiritual parents so there is no Mitzvah of honoring your parents in that case for a convert so why do you still have to honor your parents you honor them because of for gratitude gratitude for them helping you bringing you to the world gratitude for them helping you financially and feeding you all those years changing your diaper uh educating you and so on and so forth you owe them gratitude and for that you have to honor them uh so uh a person needs to honor their parents in that case and it's very very important for a person to know that honoring a parent is a obligation both on a Jew and njw both a Jew and a non-jew and a person needs to Simply uh help their parents as much as they can do what their parents do as much as your father is more important than honoring your mother or vice versa so one place in the T says honor your father and your mother and the other place says honor your mother and your father opposite but nonetheless because you spend more time with your mother you may get too used to her and disrespect her so honor her honor your parents okay observe Shabbat that's the next part of the verse observe Shabbat okay observe Shabbat both of them are Commandments I am God I know you're God who else is telling me this I know you're God what's the point telling there of honoring your parents there's the rest of the mitv such as keeping Shabbat always remember he is God meaning if your parents whether your mother or your father tell you to violate Shabbat or any other mitvah you're not allowed to honor them anymore because I am God I come before everybody else I come before you have to honor them so long as they don't tell you to violate my MIT so long as they don't kill the connection between me and you which is the MIT so a person that understands the significance of honoring parents will work on it and it's a very difficult Mitzvah sometimes it's a very difficult mitvah but nonetheless a person needs to work on themselves and I think again the biggest uh thing uh that uh helps with all all mitv is humility the more humble a person is the uh the better he will be at doing mitv and even more so the more he respects others the uh the less likely he is to to get angry at them and to disrespect them why if you give your mom your father your brother your kids everybody else you give everybody honor you're not going to get you're not going to cross the line and embarrass them why because who does a usually a person get angry at who does a person get angry at gets angry at people he disrespects yells at his wife yells at his husband yells at people yells at this but if a cop came up to you pulled you over you going to start yelling at them most likely not most likely not why because you honor the cup if a judge you're in a court judge yells at you even you're going to yell back absolutely not why you honor him you you're scared of him you honor him you're scar of him right same thing with your wife same thing with your husband same thing with anybody else that's important to you if you honor them you will not disrespect them you will not get angry at them even why because you're honor you're too busy honoring them so person if they're busy honoring their parents surely they're not going to disrespect them and get angry at them and lose their cool with them but this again it's something you have to have in your mind on a regular basis to um to uh uh to to think about it and meditate over it and and practice it even uh before you
