1201 one minute after 12 o'clock and
like we said we would bring
my dishla on the air so let's do
that right now just released his debut
album modani why is she there how you
doing
how you doing thank god thank you for
having me on the show early morning for
you my friends early morning
yes yes yes it was a jam-packed day
jam-packed day
somebody she just released his debut
album literally about a week ago
came out last tuesday like bowman right
correct you are breaking boundaries on
every
on every turn my friend i gotta tell you
as of a day or two ago my sheep puts on
social media
100 000 streams 100
000 streams that's crazy in my shoe i
mean you expect anything like that to
happen
um none of my wildest dreams no i i
would never have thought that would
happen
it's uh it's pretty crazy it was
something that i
was wowed by i was true i gotta tell you
you know people
they're not sure what a hundred thousand
streams mean does that mean that the
album was played a hundred thousand
times does that mean a song was played a
hundred thousand times
so let's tell them how it goes maishi
hundred thousand streams
means that songs off the album were
played a hundred thousand times correct
correct
correct so don't that doesn't mean that
they listen to the full album a hundred
thousand people
but that does mean that mo dhani could
have had about uh
thank you thank you i'm very excited um
i got to meet you the first time in
person was
last circus by the emmy boys choir
concert right um
i think yeah is that the first time we
met that was the first time we met we've
talked over the phone
we've sent each other so we've sent you
some songs back and forth that was the
first time we met
um it was i think your first major
concert
and it was very cool because we had the
yoni z one night and it was david the
other night
and um i think some kalina was there and
we had a good schmooze backstage about
you know what
what the right route was music video not
music video
style of music um the one the one
comment i'm getting about your album
from everybody first of all is that it's
a
very solid well-rounded album uh not one
particular style about anything on the
album
and that i guess is the kudos to your
team producer mandy hirschkwitz and the
team at sonic duo which would be mendy
and schlemey zaltzman correct now you
and zeltzman go way way back
oh yeah you guys go back to your yeshiva
days so
um men uh schlemmy just joined mindy up
recently in sonic duo obviously probably
around the time your album was created
but
how much of a hand did uh schlemmer
zeltzman have
i see he arranged two songs in the album
but how much more of a hand did he have
in the actual album making friend was
very very involved so i mean you know
not only was he
involved in listening to different
arrangements that people sent in and you
know giving good comments also on them
they also hooked us up with a few people
like
somebody like mandy portnoy who arranged
brachamaruba somebody like
dave who arranged misrata these are
people that
um schlemmy got us in touch with and
that's how we have such a
well-rounded album competition yeah i
got to tell you know
when i got the album from you a few
weeks ago i was like blown away because
hazakim the opening track by udida mari
first of all it's a typical udi song
meaning you're going to love it from the
start it's fresh it's vibrant but
it just starts off with that you know
that cry
there's like no musical intro there's
nothing it's just like it's like
pounds you in the face yeah now what did
that demo sound like mike
did it sound as similar to the song as
we hear was it very different before
it was fully arranged it was actually uh
i think he said when he sent it to us it
was about around
the same arrangement and the same uh
song we decided to put this at the
opening
to try something different and have the
album start with your singing
who does an album and bam singing right
away so something different and we
thought it would be pretty cool
and especially because it's a great zone
so was it was it a hard decision
deciding which song to open the album
with i mean you know
mandy's been on production of many
albums this is probably the first you
know major production that he's
uh solo produced himself you know a new
artist the debut album
but um how you know how involved were
you
the artist in the actual song
positioning on the album
so me as me as a singer
in general um any song that i come out
with
or any like production in general i'm
very very hands-on
very very hands-on i listen to
everything give my own you know
you know i actually i don't like this i
like this and then
you know even sometimes i'll even just
put my like i'll have my own twist in my
head of like maybe like a musical
thing that i thought of and then you
know mandy or slimy will
play it out for me um and that's how i
am with with
all the stuff that i do try to be very
hands-on that's amazing my is
with us via telephone talking about the
release of his debut album
moda ani maishwan i so when we met uh
that year
sukkas by the name boys choir show you
told me you were kicking around
ideas about certain producers i don't
believe you signed with anyone
specifically at that time
what was it about mandy hirschwitz that
said um
that's it mendy's the one for me i have
to go with mandy as my producer
um so i just basically when i was
looking around
for summer to produce my album i look
back to the people who
when i originally before i even started
in this business
i was singing at a friend's copa a
friend asked me can i sing at his
sister's sculpture so i said sure
i'll sing my sister and mendy was
actually playing the next day i got a
call from mendy that he wanted to sign
me
this was about three and a half years
ago um
and then a day later another producer
called me
so i you know i saw that i had something
in this business
and i didn't sign with anybody and when
i when i was looking to do it i was like
you know mendy was one of the first
people to reach out to me
i know menzie never actually produced a
full album by himself and i love wendy's
style
i love you know his when it comes to
music he's a genius
on all this uh stuff so i decided i'm
going to try something
different go to mendy hirsch with and i
asked around and everyone's like great
idea
and we pulled through and there are have
to be a very
a lot of creative uh sounds on this
album
in general you know i mean uh track two
which yes
when i put it on my instagram i made a
mistake saying that um
i said i think about the illuits
composed the material said not it's
actually you see barry who composed it
which is funny because it's like it
sounds like a hashtag song and i
i gotta compliment you on the halvora
it's not easy to get you know
that havora and all the yiddish there
but multi gave additional lyrics but
that song too has a very
unique different sound than the first
track you know you think you're gonna
get something with the same kind of
sound it's still a fast and and pumping
song but very very different than the
first track
yes uh that happens to be i think one of
the hardest things of this whole album
since i'm not happy and i don't speak
yiddish
getting the right pronunciation for all
the
yiddish was pretty hard you know i just
sitting with mendy and
um i recorded this song in garcia
schwartz's studio so
both of them are kasudish and they have
so they're
they were telling me no say like this
nope you're doing it too strong
nope and it was back and forth and you
know hashem
it was you know paid off you know gershy
actually does a lot of those yiddish
voice-overs so
you're getting it like from the horse's
mouth right there you know you're not
stop getting a guy that speaks yiddish
but a guy that makes you this
announcements i think it was in muncie
they had an announcement
about about masks and staying in your
car uh but they had to record it in
yiddish for the however i think
ghirshi's voice is the one you hear
doing that so you're really getting it
directly from the source
yeah i guess she does a lot of stuff
yeah um
going on with the album maishi i wanted
to talk about
uh the israeli stuff now this is
something you know when you released
your yushairi bow cover toho
tsufa i mean you're one of these guys
that thrives on this um
israeli style and israeli javara is that
is that something that comes easily for
you
that you picked up while learning an
answer or is just something that you
always uh
had a connection to yes i'm saying i
always loved you know israeli kind of
music
um regarding the israeli havarrah i
when i was in yeshiva in israel a very
very close friend of mine
wanted me to learn a song and i had to
learn it and then he taught me how to
you know properly have the right of uh
right and
and i kept practicing practicing
practicing and
i you know i got pretty good at it i
guess but there are some heavy influence
tracks here it's not like one or two
tracks with you know that are israeli
style you have a
quite a correct so once once i started
doing it i
you know i love i love i'm very i'm very
much inspired by the stuff you know i
i like the style so i guess that's more
or less the style i tried going for
now was there a shopping list of
composers to go to because
i see it see walnuts over here and i
think everybody thinks they have to get
et walnut track but uh
the song has such a a summary poppy vibe
to it
was that something that took a long time
once once you met with yitzi or was this
one of the
first objects uh first samples that he
gave you
so people who know yeti you see when it
comes to composing
you sit down with them 10 minutes later
you have a song that's how he is he's
just a genius would like that he
sits on a piano bam knocks out songs
left and right
and there's a reason why he's made so
many hits right he's just a genius
so definitely yes i did want to go to
etsy and
get some songs from him um the one song
that he talks about i'm guessing is
rachael
correct um was one of one of the first
songs that i
i got from him the one song that i was
that
shocks a lot of people that he composed
is nerdo lay nerd the lake is
very much not a gifty walnut style song
not at all very composed and
i was right when he composed it played
the song i
loved right away and b i was like it's
like a finish
so i needed that i got to tell you this
is
technically the second nearest song you
got from yitzik
considering you're a single uh nearest
shabbos which
of course why why was that song not put
on this album a lot of people have been
asking us about that so i put out two
singles before bishfieli and trio
saneros
people ask me yeah why didn't i put it
on yeah i was looking
for i wanted to do original material on
this album
you know it was it was a talk it was a
talk to actually put it on
um both songs and then i decided i'm
like i might as well you know
we kept getting songs on my kid this
song's amazing so
and then i got another song okay this
song is also amazing and by the time we
finished we had
12 songs on the album like i'm not gonna
put out a 14
song album so that's really why
it didn't get on well that makes sense
and in any case i believe the other two
tracks are available digitally online
anyways right correct
they're available everywhere yep um this
is why telephone talking about the
release of his debut album
track nine that we were just discussing
near delek you have a guest star
now debut artists generally aren't going
to put on
another unreleased artist on his track
you know they might put on their sons
their brothers their fathers or if they
get a big singer they put them on
uh what was the thought process behind
featuring
um alicia of that yasi green i believe
introduced to the public when he had him
sing at one of his children's weddings
recently so
that same exact wedding i was also hired
to sing at
right i sing at that wedding um now at
that wedding
it was i believe a few days before or
about a week before i went to uc world
and we composed
this song uh netherlich at the wedding
i um i saw shlomi i didn't know him i
never heard him sing
and i went with him and i said you know
i have a song
i showed it to him and he liked it a lot
i'm like do you want to do it with me he
said sure
i think again but i had no clue how he
found this right and then at the wedding
and then at the wedding he started
singing i'm like okay i think i just hit
the jackpot with this guy
listen i i'm very into just you know if
somebody's good why not
i don't it's not like you need a name to
get out there
somebody's good who has a great voice
i'm i'm game to have him on my album
i hear you but you know from a music
standpoint if he has
a voice that's spectacular like yours
you know it might a little bit take away
from your voice you know it's just
something something people would think
about twice before just saying okay let
me go ahead
and take another guy that has a stellar
voice and put him on my album if it's
about the song
away i thought it was i thought it was
going to i thought it was just going to
enhance the song and
well i forgot from what i can see online
it looks like the song is doing very
well and it looks like people really
enjoyed the blend of youtube voices
together so
uh call it to that um
this is the first track you released
from the album uh amor kai brazil
song produced by donnie gross i got to
tell you between slimy's arrangements
and donny and mendy you know
these are the sounds we're used to
hearing from some of these uh arrangers
over here it's like everybody really
upped their game in the last few
last few months yeah everybody's
arrangements became
like wow quality so i got you know
boxing
i was fortunate to work with such
amazing musicians and people
and we got the quality that we wanted
now what was it about this song that
this had to be the title track and the
first music video coming out from the
album
um first of all the message um you know
the song it was actually very funny how
we got more danny
rizzo came down to the studio one day
and he was showing us a completely
different song and
while he was there he's like whatever i
have a different song you know
i'm i'm not for sure selling it right
now but here what do you think of it
and the other song we liked were like
you know we weren't like
jumping on it right away it was it was a
great great great song we weren't like
we'll probably take it but you know also
he showed us this modernity and we're
like
okay so where do we sign and we love the
song
and right when i we right away literally
in the office
me and men are like okay fine this is
gonna be song 4 on the
album title track song 4. how did you
know that so fast
we just said right away it was like it
was one of those things that just came
yeah title track could be the first song
could be the third song but you guys
already had a thing i guess you you knew
where things were going to go
progress later yep amazing marcia
tishler with us avaya telephone mike
tell me how has this uh covert 19
hit you how has it changed the way
you've gone about your day and about
your business
you know i was i just did an interview
this morning and i
did an interview last week um and last
week i got asked the question
from shimyadzar what do you take out of
this i said
hashem you know i get to spend time with
my wife which i
haven't had time and i mean i have time
of course but i'm saying
i didn't have a lot of time to spend
with her because hashem i'm very busy
singing
right um and now now i have all the time
to spend with her so
some that's the best thing
so tell me um have you seen any numbers
in physical copies you know being that
people aren't really going to store as
much nowadays
uh stores as a matter of fact here in
new jersey just in new york they're just
starting to open the next
in the last day or two but they're only
open for curbside pickup i mean are
people ordering cds
from your distributor for for shipping
online or or
do you see more a big number of digital
copies being
purchased so i'll tell you the truth i
don't
you know i don't know yet just because
it's been a week usually the reports
come in
like a month or so after right um i know
that a nice
amount of people ordered from my website
i shipped out about 25 copies from my
from my own website and a nice 30 people
ordered the download one so you know i i
believe people
are still ordering the hard copy and
listening to it
on uh streaming so i guess when we got
the reports in
a month you know i don't know yeah those
are because all those people they use
their phones for music but nowadays
their kids are using their phone for
school instead of going back to the
old-fashioned way of using a cd player
listen to music
now um me and you we're big music fans
you know we talked music shop when we
were there at that concert and i believe
we did i think the pesach concert after
that
um one of the guys we were talking about
was a guy that released the song
that sukis um it was uh off his brand
new album there was a first single off
uh bark sholum um and i'm browsing
through your album and i see hey
mike's got a track from brock shulham so
well
you know talk to us a little bit what
was that meeting like uh how easy was it
to find that one track was bark show did
he have a lot of songs to show you
and and they were negea uh how did it go
so
we called both sean up and we're like
you know we wanna first of all we sat
down with a lot a lot of composers
we tried city we wanted the best so we
weren't settling for anything we sat
down with everybody
all right you know i heard i heard songs
from everybody
i know i sent you at least 50 myself so
yeah correct so i listened
for for this album me myself i listened
to
over 350 songs that got sent to us wow
so it was a lot so we called bob shum up
we asked him to come down to the studio
and show us some stuff and he was
playing trying to compose stuff whatever
back and forth and then all of a sudden
at the end of the day you know after
about two hours
you know we love we liked some stuff
they showed us but at the end of the day
he showed us a song called canada
and right when he started playing it
we're like wow this is
this is amazing um funny enough that
mendy actually
composed the intro to the song on the
spot over there he's like i feel like
this this fits the song
and done mandy like the intro that's on
the album is the
actual intro that mandy composed at the
session with baal shawn
wow how did that show him deal with it
well some loved it you know he loved it
and and we had to say
sometimes composers are very particular
about their songs you know especially
uh how they come out in the end oh yeah
i know i i
from what i heard from him i spoke to
him he loves the arrangement
loves how everything came out on the
song yeah you know it's hard with
baroque showm's song sometimes because
sometimes his songs
can be sung only by him you know he has
that certain draw that certain
stick with it it's about the stick of
the performance but this one i you know
i believe
uh suited you very well and i think
people are really going to enjoy this
because
it's not your typical it's not a song
that i would listen to and say oh yeah
you know it's not correct another utz
walnut track on your album is
aniva at which i guess we'd call your
your wedding song technically right
correct yeah now was there any sad to
put english in the song
or or was the idea from the beginning
just to make hebrew lyrics
so with this song first of all how he
got it is also
another story okay
i was singing i was singing at a wedding
and
i found out the night before that the
client also hired yf walnut to sing the
couple with me
which is very random because yes he
doesn't really do live yeah no he
doesn't like to do them at all
right so at the wedding you know we're
schmoozing
and he told me he says listen i composed
you know two songs for a singer
and the singer only was only able to buy
one of them
you know he wants to buy this this other
song just he can't buy it right now
he says i want to sell it because i know
it's an it's an awesome song
so he showed it to me and literally at
the wedding i sent it to mendy
right and then he's like mandy's like
okay let's take it
it's the song we just had uh you know a
melody to it
um no actual lyrics needs these demos
just he was just humming and starting
the song
correct okay um and after what
you know then the next day whatever we
went back and forth different ideas of
what to do
and we came with a concept that's
different i guess
you know not the classic copper song
that everyone's saying that's you know
the hustle and this broke and that
we did it from
the huston standpoint the cousin is
standing underneath
talking as she's walking down the aisle
and he's saying that
we should have bracha together hashem
should bench us hashem shall help us
to be happy and all these stuff and he's
talking to the kaaba
so it's a very cool concept yeah it is i
mean most nozzles
songs especially the ones released
recently is is uh is a kalost filat
hashem or khasn's field
hashem but never one to another about
their life they're about to begin
hindi i made by mazam standing here on
this day but
possibly
here's our beginning uh very very unique
song
uh maisha tisha with us by telephone uh
delving deep into the release of his
debut album mode ani got a few minutes
left so we're gonna
finish going through the songs and then
talk about what else is new with my
tischler
maish for a new singer to do an english
song is a little bit of a kiddish
to do two english songs is definitely uh
a bigger kirish
so what was shot behind that you know
english songs and jewish music
they're either really good or really
cheesy what makes you think you had
grabbed two good english songs on your
first album so
the first english song that we got was
called my story
that was i believe the second song that
we bought
for the album so i bought an english
second the english song as my second
song on album
um we got this song sent to us
by um shia mandolin i was wondering like
it says compose the lyrics by shiffy
hawks i never heard of shiffy hawks
so let me do you know who the axe
is i do not
shaki asks okay first of all who does
this song
sound like who who composes song i would
probably say uh abey's daughter probably
it isn't it it is baby's daughter is
this the one that lives in muncie
um i'm not sure if she lives i'll tell
you the truth i never met her never
spoke to her
interesting okay fine so continue so we
got the song
sent to us by srimad-lewis and
mendy was very very into it me
personally i was very nervous about it
just because i i don't know how i sing
english music i never
i've never done it before right um so
mehndi was very you know very strong
about it because i really think we
should take it really think
and we took it and sam it was uh
performed it for the first time
last pesa uh not this past year the year
before
by kmr i performed it i went with menzie
mindy and
uh you know he each banned there and we
performed it
and you know went over really well so i
was very excited about it
and then the next zone your greatest win
um
so first of all thanks to you for
introducing me to khaila new house who
you know i believe you're the shopkin on
uh kilo alum that's right that song
yeah we we were involved with that yeah
so i see you went
and you opened up the doors and you're
like okay i need a new
i need a song about my greatest win you
know so
i'll say the truth that that song was um
she sent us the song and i was like okay
this is a
it's a cool pop song this is cool you
know i feel like
people will like the song and um i
jumped on it i showed it to mindy
and mindy's like i like it i like the
groove i like the
you know how the style of the song how
everything's laid out
and from there we just we bought it and
she wrote amazing lyrics for it
no i think you have a very well-run
album like i said
album is in stores distributed by the
music it's available with digital
download everywhere jewish music has
sold the sonic duo production
presented by mandy hirschquitz maisha i
hear you having a big event tomorrow
night why don't you tell us about it
yeah tomorrow night at 6 00 pm
i'll be doing a live stream concert you
know for a debut album release
um doing it it will be available on
youtube
and via instagram live six o'clock
tomorrow night now for people who don't
understand what does that mean album
release does that mean you'll be
you'll be playing tracks from the album
you'll be singing the album
uh will there be a band are you playing
it off of the soundtrack you know give
us a little bit of what's gonna be
happening
so i'm doing it in um eagle production
warehouse he set up a huge
corner from me here in lakewood yep he
set up a huge
gorgeous stage lighting screen um
i'll be doing most of the stuff will be
off of backing tracks
which is basically the music with the
backing vocals
just not the lead vocal i'll be seeing
in that part and then
um america you know some songs i'll do
if i'm not going to do some stuff i
might not do off the album i'll do
maybe some other random stuff um
and i have the solid brief playing
keyboard there on the side
all right i'm you're probably going to
have like eagles
standard big video wall with lighting
and all that stuff
so that's on youtube and on instagram
now let's talk music videos
um before corona hits before the album
was officially released
was micey tichler working on any more
videos for the new album
so well i put out one already i put out
mostly
right that in itself was uh you know a
fun that was a really fun one we uh
i sat down with a guy named jay kaminsky
who's a
you know videographer right um and
he came up with a great idea i mean we
came with it together
with this whole glasses idea if you saw
it you see
this whole glass like what's the glasses
about we thought about it and we're
saying there's so many things in life
which is basically the song modernity is
about gratitude about thanking hashem
we know so many people in life just take
certain things for granted
they have a house or they have a cup of
water they you know whatever it is
they're not realizing that
everything's a gift from hashem so we
were
our message that we tried sending out to
everybody was if you put on the glasses
and you'll see that it you should you
should think of shampoo put on the
glasses then wow you got a new vision
like
you know what actually hashem gave this
to me i should i should be thankful for
that i have a cup of water
right well no um and regarding regarding
new stuff
of course there's going to be things in
the works due to corona we couldn't work
on anything yet but i'm going to assume
there will be
some more music videos i'm looking
forward maishi to
with us via telephone we're discussing
the debut
of his debut album entitled moda ani
maisha we're going to close you out with
track 8 because i'm going to play that
for you
because not only did i get the bra
broker this song but
slimy solves me got to arrange it so i
get
the best of both worlds um i had the
pleasure of sending moishi a bunch of
tracks uh he was interested in a few but
this sale
was the only one that went through barak
hashem song was entitled kilo alum
composed by khal new house
