Nature and Wine with Joseph Herzog: Discovering the New Napa Oak Knoll
84 views
Galileo said it best, "Wine connects man and nature and time in a way that nothing else does." We had the great luck to escape last week's storm and spend some time in LA with Joseph Herzog, cooking, drinking and creating some new wines. Here's a sneak peak at their new Napa Oak Knoll 2023, which we'll have a crazy deal on for Pesach! Stay tuned next week for our KFWE footage and stay warm!

This is
>> the ma.
>> This is our life.
>> This is called the yabo bridge.
>> It's a narrow bridge. This is our
We just have to drink enough. Mati would
say janess because it's perfectly
balanced. I would say better wines.
>> This is perfectly balanced. You go on
the road.
>> You sit over here and you open a bottle
of wine.
Find a better place. Let's go. Let's
find a better place.

>> I could be a professional.
>> Look.
>> Hey, in this nobody's watching. You
could have plastic.
>> Yeah. I don't want the park guy to come
along.
>> You don't want broken glass.
>> Bush. Next week is KFWE.
>> Yes.
>> I sent you eminence.
>> Yes.
>> Okano. I didn't even try it yet.
>> I know you didn't try. We had to come in
the woods for that.
>> Beautiful and very exciting.
>> How is it different uh from
>> So it's a different region again.
>> Again, Okano you made the last time.
>> Okno. We had a single vineyard out of
Ok.
>> Vineard in 20 21
>> 22.
>> This is a different vineyard. This is
actually that was the hillside. This is
the floor valley floor.
No evidence on that.
>> 23 now is where all the 23s are coming
out except for Pino and Shard. Now we
have 24 the white wines and Pino which
we only age four on one plus here. The
big reds the 23s are coming. We're going
to have a lot of fun at KWE. But here
something before everyone else.
>> Where are we?
>> Technically we're in Los Angeles.
>> Okay.
If we are don't look at the graph
[music] at the geographical area that we
are, then we're just in heaven.
>> It's amazing. By the way, the wine
didn't breathe, but we did a pretty good
breathing job walking up here, [music]
so hopefully it will help our senses.
I got to LA late late last night.
>> How did you pick this this
mat shabas? How did you know to say,
"Mate, I'm coming the 25th."
I'm not sure. I'm actually
>> Your father was going to be in Arizona.
You told maybe you're going to come. So
you took him out to Shabas if you would
have someday.
>> Perfect. Perfect. We wouldn't I wouldn't
be here.
>> Sorry for all of you watching and
sitting in 18 in 12 in 24 in of snow.
Enjoy the snow while it's white and nice
and fluffy.
So just by drinking without anything,
just by the nose and the mouth feel, you
know it's Nappa. You're getting blue
fruit. You're getting elderbererries.
You're getting dark purple
currant
licorice.
It's not misha, right?
>> This is not mush.
>> Yeah. Surprisingly,
the wine tastes amazing. And we just
opened it. We just opened it.
>> So, I think that's another hit. When the
Okamo came out in 2022, it sold like
this, right?
>> It was ready. It was 22 vintage cases
because the 22 vintage was a very stock.
>> This is No, this is going to be in two
weeks. So, we'll be in stock. It just
landed in New York, I think, actually on
Thursday.
>> So, we'll have it for a good price for
Pisa for the course. It's not I think it
needs to open up. So, you drink it for
one cup and then you keep it for for the
meal the next day.
>> This is going to be easy to drink like
you said, but it's going to open. As it
opens, the tannins are going to start
showing. You're going to get more of the
mouth, feel more of the lingering
finish. Um, I even think start have it
for the first case and then leave it for
the meal for the season or use it.
>> Yeah. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
>> Don't wait for the next morning. You
won't be able to resist this one.
>> Now, it does help. The setting that
you're drinking wine does help. I think
the setting does help.
>> You do this all the time. You do your
weekly uh wine of the week. You go to
Pro Park. What do you know?
>> I'm Prospect Park. But this is not this
is a little deeper into the roots. And
plus, this is literally in California
where this wine is from. And I'm sitting
here with you.
[sighs]
>> I'm sitting. [music]
