Beyond Smoke: Understanding Cigars - Part One

Anybody in California, they all know anybody that hangs around being has been by my events has always seen Albert. We have the cigar rolling guys coming and showing up at our events. But now this is an opportunity to introduce Moshe, you and your followers. Albert, Albert will give you whatever you want to know about cigars, even what you don't want to know about. >> [laughter] >> What do we say? We say noch a mal? So, if somebody that loves whiskey, loves cognac, tequila, I have $30 in my pocket, where do I start? Look, you know, for a newbies, we typically go for a milder cigar. You know, usually let them have something [music] smooth, mild, doesn't hurt the throat, it's smooth. Give me a second, Ed, I'll be right there. You know, typically that's what we, you know, steer them towards something smooth, mild. Yeah, then when you tell me you have a limited >> a Connecticut wrapper? Does that mean you go straight there? No. >> necessarily. That's that's the fallacy of everybody when they look at a cigar, Moshe. So, what they see is a dark cigar, they go, "Oh, this is going to be strong." It's actually quite the contrary, right? What happens is every one of them has a different taste profile and flavor. Sometimes [music] the Connecticut, that light shade that people think, "Oh, this is going to be mild." It's quite the contrary, it's even stronger. It's like the short, quiet guy. Yes. So, it's not that dark chocolate versus It's not that dark chocolate versus the white chocolate, it's just a different taste profile. So, that's rule number one. >> what does the size make a difference? >> Size does make a difference. Shape and size make a difference in the taste and flavor. Think about >> Size makes a difference in the taste and flavor. Absolutely. It has to do how much it draws, how much smoke or what comes through it, right? As you toasted or whatever, it gets heavy more toasty as you drag as you pull in the draw. For correct. So, you know, uh here what I say, let me just give you an idea of a cigar has three components. A filler, a binder, and then the wrapper. Just like whiskey, most of the flavor of the whiskey comes out of the barrel itself. 70% of the flavor of a, you know, any kind kind of whiskey comes from the barrel. the barrel, you know? And every barrel is different than the other. Think about that. >> True, true. Okay? It's where they get those that wood from and whether How big the wood How big the barrel is. >> is the tree and all that stuff. >> was stored. >> Yes.
