well it's it's been a year since 10 city
was closed here we're a year past the
closing date and we've got uh everybody
has lost their housing their one year
worth of housing that was uh part of the
settlement of the closing of tent city
uh everybody that was housed for a year
is out of their
housing um and so most of them are back
in the woods again there's a few that
were able to be helped by the government
longer
term but the vast majority of the people
of tent city are getting just scattered
to the Four Winds scattered to to uh
patches of woods P here and there you
know in different towns Lakewood just
all over the place so the closing of
tent city didn't fix anything for
anybody again maybe a small percentage
was able to get some uh extended
government help but a small fraction uh
maybe maybe 20% of the people of T City
so again we're you know we're back to
we're back to uh Square One Ground Zero
and there is no shelter in Ocean County
in fact uh the Atlantic City Rescue
Mission is not accepting anybody from
outside of Atlantic County anymore what
used to be an option for the homeless of
Ocean County the Atlantic City Rescue
Mission is no longer an option for the
people of uh so instead of having more
help more opportunities more options
we've gotten less options for the
homeless so um you know again you know
we're a society that's going to be
judged on how we treat the poor uh of
our of our society and uh what we're
doing here is we're failing miserably as
a society to to uh to uh you know to
help and affect the the least of our
community the least of our society so
again I think we have to do better you
know people were uh exiled to Babylon
for 70 years for selling the poor for a
pair of shoes and so uh again you again
I think we'll be judged on how we treat
the poor this time around all
so
