Yesterday's Torah reading tells us as the brothers return home to Yakov, Yakov is hesitant to send Minyammen back with them. Ruain tries. However, once the hunger and the starvation becomes unbearable, Yehuda steps in and takes responsibility for Binyamin. And only after sending double amount of money and a gift for Yoseph, the brothers come down to Egypt standing before Yoseph. Today's Torah reading begins as the brothers are standing before Yoseph. Verse 16, and Yseph saw saw with them. And he told the people who oversee his household, "Bring these men into the house and have animals slaughtered for them and prepare it because with me the people will eat this afternoon. What does this mean? and slaughter animals like to slaughter and to prepare. He's talking to the person and you should go do it. That means it wasn't a direct order to this individual. He was telling them what should be done and how it should be done that they should do as he desires in the afternoon like this afternoon. This is the first this is like the lunch meal which was considered the first meal in old French you have a lot of these um use usage of this word in the throw to the dog his meal and you see the word comes to mean meal he would break bread for his afternoon meal Anytime we find the word it means the afternoon itself not necessarily means a meal but it means actually the afternoon. Verse 17 and the man did as Yseph said and he brought and the man brought the men to Yseph's home. Verse 18 and the men saw that they were brought to Yseph's home and they said to themselves what's going on here? Probably this is because of the money that was returned in our packs initially here. We are brought here to be accused to be falsely accused and to attack us. They're going to take us as slaves and our donkeys. The word over here if you look has two yuds in it and the translates and they were afraid because it'll be one means see two means that they're afraid why what are they afraid of just because they were brought to Yseph's home it's not usual for any person to come buy food to stay in home but in hotels in places of lodging that's in the city because of that they were afraid probably because they're going to be arrested as well. We're being brought to the home to falsely accuse us to roll upon us meaning a liable about money and to attack us to attack us and explains the words which means to make a liel against us like later on in the book of Deuteronomy that's the same terminology as He did not use the actual verse of the he wasn't careful to use the terminology of the verse to make it enlarge it making things out of making big deal about it and inflating things of what it really is all about. Verse 19. And they approached the individual who overseeed Yoseph's household. And they sat in. They spoke to him at the entrance of the house. I'm sorry. No. Rashi. Verse 20. They said, "Please my master if you please. We came down here initially only to buy food. What is the word request? Please in Aramaic saying please please the fact that we came down to Egypt. This was a this was a demotion from who we are. We're wealthy. We're usually giving other people food. And now we have to be feel humble and demoted by coming over here to ask for food. And now we need you. We need you. Verse 21. We came to our hotel and we opened up our packs and the money of each individual was in the opening of their pack money in the exact weight and it was returned to us. However, we brought down other money to purchase food. We do not know who is the one that put the money in our packs. Verse 23. And he replied to them, all is well with you. Do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has given you a hidden treasure in your pack. That's how your money reached me. Your money reached me. And at that point, and he brought out Shim as well. Rashi verse 23 meaning God gave it to you in your merit and if your merit is not enough because of your father because of your father's that's why you got the special gift verse 24 and the man brought the men to the home of Yoseph the brothers he gave them water washed their eat and he gave to their donkeys. Verse 24. Why doesn't it say already he brought them? What does it mean? He brought them now twice means he brought them again to the home of say they kept on trying to push them away to the outside. We saw they were speaking at the entrance of the home. They were afraid to go in. They didn't know what's going to happen when he told him, "Don't you worry. Everything's all right." They followed him. They went into the house. Verse 25, and they prepared the gift for Yoseph for when he would come home in the afternoon because they heard that that's where they're going to have their meal. They're going to have they're going to be dining with him. Verse 25 that means they made it beautiful. They put beautiful vessels around it that it should look nice that when they're going to give it to him and it should look appropriate to give to this king. Verse 26 came to the home. They gave him the gift that they had with them to the home and they bowed down before him. What does it mean that they came into the home meler from the entrance way tracklin to the big from the ant chamber into the big hall that they were that they were going to go from the lobby to the big wonderful dining room that they're going to be eating. and he asked them he inquired about their welfare and they said and he asked how's your old father doing that you spoke about is he still alive verse 28 they said your servant our father is well still alive they bowed their heads and they prostrated themselves once again in acknowledgment to Yoseph's interest in their welfare Why? Because since he asked about how they're doing and about their welfare and about their father the word means the word comes from the word like bowing your head actually bowing down on the ground putting out your feet and arms and then putting your head down as well. Verse 29. And he lift he raised his eyes. Yseph raised his eyes. And he saw his brother. He saw his brother his mother's son. And he said, "Is this the brother that you spoke about? The younger brother that you told me about." And they said and he said to May God be kind to you, my son. Rashi verse 29. about the other did we see that he spoke about this by the other by the other ones because we already heard that Jacob said that God graced your servant with however at that time wasn't born so therefore now gave him the blessing of grace therefore Yseph blesses him may God be graceful to you be kind to you because you did not get that original blessing.
