Join me in learning for Monday the
second Torah reading of Paras Mikates
chapter 41 verse 15. Yesterday we
learned as Pharaoh had two dreams. The
dream about the fat cows and the skinny
cows, the healthy bushels of wheat and
the skinny bushels of wheat. and how the
butler told Pharaoh that the one that
interpreted his dreams while he was in
prison was Yoseph. Pharaoh calls for
Yoseph. And today we continue as Yoseph
comes before Pharaoh. Verse 15.
And says to Yseph, I had a dream,
but none of my wise men can interpret it
for me.
But I heard about you reliable reports
from somebody that you already
interpreted their dream. Lamer saying
that you can hear a dream and then you
have the ability to understand it and
interpret it. Verse 15. Rashi
you can understand and listen to a dream
to the extent to interpret it as well.
They understand it. Not only listen
hears and understands
people were not able to understand his
language
answers in verse 16
answers saying
without my it is not my it's not but by
my power but with Hashem's power
I can answer Pharaoh's request
tells us
I don't take any credit for the wisdom.
It's not my wisdom of understanding
dreams.
God is the one that gives the answer
will tell me what to say for the favor
and the desire of a parro requests.
So therefore, Pharaoh now tells Yseph
about his dream
in my dream.
I'm standing at the bank of the Nile
River. Verse 18. Then from the Nile
River
emerges seven cows robust and wellformed
are wellformed and they and they are
gazing in the marsh.
Verse 19
and then another seven cows emerge after
them. Those however
were meager and very ill-formed
very much so
and emaciated.
I've never seen such bad cows in all of
Egypt.
What does it mean? Dalis verse 19 weak.
Why are you so weak? When he talks about
that he looked weak and he was bad
offer.
Anytime you find the word in the
buser means missing flesh. They were
very emaciated.
Verse 20.
And the emaciated ill-formed cows then
ate up the seven robust cows.
Verse 20 uh verse 21.
These were ingested inside of them into
the thin cows
was not even known. You would not ever
notice wasn't visibly noticed
that they had been ingested
and they looked just as bad
as even before they ingested them. And I
woke up.
Verse 22.
And then I had it fell asleep again and
I had another dream.
There were seven heirs of wheat,
full good-looking ears of grain.
I'm sorry.
And I saw seven full good-looking heirs
of grain were growing in a single stock.
They were good-looking and they were
healthy in that stalk. Verse 23.
And then seven ears of grain shriveled
gaunt and battered by the east wind
sprouted after them.
Rashi explains
in Aramaic it means for example
it was like a dried out that it's like a
piece of wood without any moisture in it
and hard like a rockum
explains nuts
there's only the top of the uh the
flower of the actual grain
none of the seeds were in it that's how
dry it was that all the seeds He just
fell off and all you had was a little
piece on top.
Verse 24.
And then the gaunts of grain then
swallowed up the seven good-looking
grain.
And I told I told these stories to my
magicians, to my wise men, but nobody
can explain to me the dreams.
Verse 25
says
these two dreams they're really one
dream
this that God intends to do he told
Pharaoh
what is it and he says as follows verse
the seven good-looking cows are seven
years
and the seven good-looking heirs there
seven good years
it is one all one dream verse 26 six.
They're all just one seven. There's not
a repetition of seven.
And you want to know why you saw it
twice?
Because it's about to happen.
But like Yoseph tells him at the end why
you saw it twice
by the seven years. It says he told him
because it was very quick that it was
soon going to happen. Therefore, God
chose him.
And therefore God chose him what's going
to happen in the seven years and then
what's going to happen at the end of the
seven years.
Therefore suit that he should see and
telling him about what is going to
happen showing him of what will happen
then at the time as well.
Verse 27
and the seven emaciated cows and the bad
ones they came after them seven years
and the seven empty airs of grain of
grain and the ones that were battered by
the east wind you are going to symbolize
seven years of hunger.
verse 28
this is what I have told
this what God intends to do
as par he showed par what he's going to
do to Egypt verse 29
seven years are coming during which
there will be a great abundance of
satiation in the land of the entire land
of Egypt verse 30
and afterwards it's going to come seven
years of hunger afterwards
and the abundance that was there is
going to be all forgotten in the land of
Egypt
and the famine will ravage the land. 30
says the reason why it was swallowed one
into the other because as you saw the
cows were swallowed and nothing changed
on the cows. So too the hunger will
swallow the years of plenty and you will
know not even notice that there were
years of plenty.
Verse 31
the former abundance will not even be
known during the years of hunger
afterwards
afterwards because the famine will be
very very severe.
This is the interpretation
that he didn't notice and you won't see
and no change happened to the cows when
they were ingested.
And now you want to know why you had the
dream twice
and why you saw the dream the same dream
twice
two times
because it the matter stands ready
before God
and God is moving quickly to carry it
out
says he's prepared to do it. Verse 33.
Ver verse 33. Now,
so now let Pharaoh seek out a man of
discernment and wisdom. Does she say all
letter to betray him and put him in
charge of Egypt? Yoseph does not satisfy
himself with just interpreting the
dream. But as every good Jew, he decides
to give advice to Pharaoh of what he
should do.
And what should he do then? What should
this individual who has good discernment
and wisdom
Let Pharaoh take steps and appoint
officials. Allah over the land
and prepare Egypt
the seven years of plenty. The word
the word
comes from the word to prepare and to
arm yourself. Like we find that the
Jewish people went out which means that
they went out armed prepared for what
they would encounter later on. Verse 35
and they therefore they will gather all
the food that's coming in during these
good years
and then let them store the grain under
Pharaoh's control.
The food will be controlled in cities
and then they will be guarded.
What is he telling us over here? The
food shamed. It's a noun. Who?
That's why he says that's why it's with
a uh you have
the the the uh canellations on the al
the the vowels on the olive. And over
here it has a sele
which means to eat
which means an activity verb.
When you want to say that somebody is
eating in a verb then the cancellation
will be on. If you want to say that it's
a noun food then the cancellation would
be on the and the pronunciation is on
the alf. And you see one is with a seg
which is a noun with a is a verb
under his control and in his warehouses.
Verse 36
and the food will then be held as a
reserve for the land
for the year seven years of famine
which that will come upon Egypt.
And this way the land would not be
depopulated by the famashi
says food or the one that is stored in
the warehouses
just like you have any other item which
a person puts away and holds for a time
when it's needed. This you'll put away
to make sure that you have it in the
time of hunger to further land to
continue to be populated.
Verse 37.
And the and this.
The way Yoseph explained the dream
pleased Pharaoh and pleased his servants
and all the people that were there.
Verse 38.
And Pharaoh said to his servants,
"Is there a man? Can we find another man
like this who clearly this individual
who came to tell us the interpretation
has the spirit of God with him?
They're not asking can we go find
somebody else
is there anybody like this person
meaning if we would look really hard to
look would we ever find somebody like
this person
says it's like asking in a question
about a rhetorical question
anytime you have a hey in the beginning
of a word
and it has the
with
asking a question. Can somebody be found
like this in the land of Egypt? Yseph of
a year comes and tells Pharaoh a plan to
store the stuff for the seers of from
the years of plenty for the years of
hunger. This concludes the second Torah
reading of Paras Mikates.
