>> With us today, very very kosher of a
guest.
What? The one and only my shver.
Dr. Friedman from Chicago. Shver dad.
Now, mix shvoger before him.
Not only is my father-in-law
one of the greatest head and neck
surgeons in the world.
Gives out talks around the world and
invented many many
different inyonim.
He also trained me back in the day. I'm
also a shver surgeon. You can ask him. I
did surgery with him a few times.
>> [clears throat]
>> But more importantly for me and for my
mishpacha
my father-in-law is a masmid. Also, he
knows how to learn like you can't even
imagine. He gives a shiur every single
Shabbos for many many years, probably 20
30 years. On Shabbosim, on Yom Tovim in
the hotel. He's a daf yomi meshugana.
Never misses a day.
And he's a very very good learner, but
he's a masmid.
What I mean by masmid, I spent hundreds
of Shabbosim in his house. I lived there
for a few months at a time.
And you come there 4:00 5:00 in the
morning, he's there with the Gemara.
Always with the Gemara. Any available
moment that the man has, he's learning
Torah or spending it with his
grandchildren. But he's learning Torah.
So it's
He's here. I think I'm going to invite
him a little bit to cover for him.
If you allow me, could I say over the
mic, Reb Dov? Yeah, do I have a choice?
Huh? I'll give you a chance.
No, it's a big kizzuk. Seriously, this
is a story I said over a number of
times, but my father-in-law is here
and he'll correct me
on on the the exact details of the story
cuz it's a story of kizzuk.
So, I know he's not going to like it
100%, but I I thought we'd be okay.
The koved the oilam will be mevater.
My father-in-law had a problem with his
bachur. He wasn't doing well in yeshiva.
He was uh
to say the least, he wasn't he wasn't a
he wasn't learning very much. So, my
father-in-law went to
uh Reb Tzvi Kamenetzky in
in Chicago and the Rebbi over there and
he said, "What am I going to do with
Moishe? He's not he's not learning."
So, he looked at him very bluntly and
said,
"Do you learn?
What what kind of hashpa'ah do you have
on your son? You're a surgeon. All you
do the whole day is work work work.
What about Torah?"
So, my father-in-law took it very very
seriously.
And uh I don't know if it was the next
day, I'll tell you.
He went and he got a chavrusah Reb
Dovid, what's his last name?
>> Oppenheimer. Reb Dovid Oppenheimer. This
is talking about 35 years ago, maybe
more. How many years ago? Mhm, probably
uh 40, more than 40. [snorts]
>> More than 40 years ago.
And they've never missed a day of
learning in 40 years. I mean, maybe when
he was when he had COVID and he was
dying in the hospital, Reb Dovid Reb
Dovid, but in the snow when there's 2 ft
of snow, he walks into Lincolnwood and
then my father-in-law drives to him and
they never missed a day.
And he became a huge masmid. And in
fact, the son is a famous rosh yeshiva
today in Yeshivas in Yerushalayim. He's
a big masmid, a tremendous talmid
chacham. So, it it's it goes to show,
right? Is there What do you want to be
masif to the story? Yeah, I can't say
that speak. Yeah, but you're right. It's
it's it's that one day. That one that
one line. One line. Okay.
It's true. What did he say? What was his
line? He said if he want to learn you
have to learn.
It was simple. Wow. A simple idea.
All right.

Reb Itzhak, good news. Even though it's
Rosh Chodesh today, but
there's no tachnun because I'm going to

feel like
No, he didn't. No, no.
Oh, the 16 guys got a thousand
Yeah, cuz the
The the relentless was relentless. Okay,
you have a good day. You should go out
you should have a lot of success.
Says the more holding by six years
zoo
the moment on the base Like 15 lines
from the bottom 12 50 lines new year.
Says in the Mishnah that the four sixes
if you don't have all four then you
can't wear sixes. I have a six years ago
zoo. It's
one minute so comes you small says all
four are four minutes.
I think you might be right
at the end of the day you have to wear
a beggar that has four corners with four
sixes. So where is the next coming in
whether it's one minute or four
different minutes. Says the more a
number of differences.
I'm going to be a
sudden six years ago zoo. You have it
already.
You guys have it? You with us? Good.
So I would sit this meaning if you have
a a garment that's made out of stone
and Oh, I see. Okay, I'll talk about it
soon. Remind me Gerson put it in Dave
somebody remind me that I have to do the
the colon thing.
By the turning of the hour we'll talk
about it. So
if a person
has only three sixes. Now we know
We're going to be talking with we're
starting tails today so we might as well
show you.
The blue string in the sixes is made out
of wool.
Has to be made out of
The beged, the sadin is made out of
pishtan.
So, what we have here is a problem of
several pishtan of shaatnez.
So, if it's
the mitzvah of tzitzis, great.
But, what happened was you don't have
all four. You only have three out of the
four.
So, you have a problem of shaatnez.
According to Hachamim, you need four.
And you only have three, so you're
walking around with shaatnez. You're
going to have to take the beged off.
According to Rabbi Shmuel that each one
of the tzitzis is a mitzvah from the
atzmo, it's its own mitzvah. So, if
you're wearing three, you're also
mikayev the mitzvah. It's not shaatnez.
The tzemer, the wool that you have on
your on your three tzitzis is part of
the mitzvah. You're mikayev the mitzvah.
That's nafka mina number one.
Rava bar Rav Huna amar tal ba'al
Hachamim she gibinayu. If a person has
something like this,
five corners,
so according to Tanna Kamma, you put on
four tzitzis. According to Rabbi Shmuel,
each one is a mitzvah from the atzmo, so
you would have to put on five.
Ravina amar Rav Huna gibinayu, there's a
there's a
a nafka mina in Rav Huna.
D'amar Rav Huna, I'll tell you this.
There's a maiseh that he heard from the
Sam Sofer.
What happens if you have a guy that's in
the process of giyur, he's not sure if
he's a ger or not.
He didn't dunk in the mikvah 100%. He
really
He has a safek. So, he has a safek. I
don't know what Whatever the safek is,
there's always a safek, right?
So, now he has a major problem on
Shabbos.
If he's not mechallel Shabbos and he's a
a who's not mechallel Shabbos
is chayav misah.
If he is mechallel Shabbos and he's a
Jew,
she's chayav misah. So, what should he
do?
What should he do? So, the Sam Sofer
comes up with a great chab. He says he
should wear tzitzis in a reshus harabim.
Why? Because the strings of a tzitzis,
if they're not if they're tzitzis and
they they have a mitzvah,
then they're part of the beged, the
bottle of the beged, then you're not
carrying. But if they're not part of the
if they're not a mitzvah, if he's a
and he's not a mechayev the mitzvah of
tzitzis,
then they're not part of the beged, they
have a chashivus bifnei atzmo.
It's not like a string coming off a
beged that will be bottle, it's not
bottle to the beged. And therefore he's
carrying in reshusa rabim, so he's
mechallel Shabbos. And if he's he's a
he's mechallel Shabbos, it's great.
And if he's a Jew, then it's a good
tzitzis, so then he's not carrying, so
it's good. That's his chov.
That's the Chasam Sofer. So that's what
the Gemara says over here.
Now that we know that,
the Omra Ravuna Yitzchak bar Oshaya says
it's kilchasa. If a person walks out in
the reshusa rabim, let's say with three
tzitzis,
so now the tzitzis become a massa, they
become a burden. He's carrying tzitzis.
B'Shabbos chayiv chatis. According to
Rebbi Shmuel, he'd be patur. Why?
Because three is also good. So he's not
chayiv anything. According to the Tanna
Kamma,
three is nothing. So he's carrying
three, it's like carrying a bag of
tzitzis around. Nothing to do with your
tzitzis and that that's also that's a
chiyuv chatis. Omra Rebbi Shishis bar
Rebbi Idi Hayman the Batsli Glimei
l'olam d'lo yiklu. If a person thinks
that of themself that he's going to get
away with getting rid of the fourth
corner, he won't be chayiv a tzitzis. He
didn't do anything, he cut off the
corner. He did something like this, I
guess.
Shavita ba'al chometz. So by cutting the
corner, all you did is you added another
corner.
Omra Rebbi Shishis, you ever see these
guys walking around with frocks?
The frock is really four corners. So
what do they do? They if you take a
notice, you'll see the one of the back
corners, they they round it out.
So is that okay?
That's what the Gemara is discussing
here.
This guy, he made a mistake, he didn't
round it out. He cut it
on a straight angle. Oh, so now he
created five corners.
With not on me.
Uh, no.
What if he ties it up? He ties up the
corner in a circle. Something like this,
he circles it out a little bit. This is
not so much circle, but it was in a
circle.
Because you tied it, the the knot is
nothing.
We we just view it as if it's completely
untied and it's got a regular garment of
four corners with not on me.
If you have uh a jug, something like
this. You try to make a jug out of a
piece of leather by tying it, that's
nothing. It's not a jug. It's not a
cleat.
Uh, cleat is mikabel tumah, but a piece
of leather is not mikabel tumah. The way
you try to create a jug was by tying it,
that knot is not enough. You need a sew
it. You need to do something serious.
If they're Arabs, that's the derech to
use it like that. So, that's the way
it's a cleat. But, you you're not an
Arab. You don't tie up
a piece of hide and make it into a jug.
Therefore, it's not mikabel tumah. In
other words, what we see from here is
that by tying something, that's not
enough.
That doesn't change the tsurah of the
beged or the cleat.
A person actually sews
the corner of his garment and he makes
it in a circle like they do in the
frock.
There's a guy I once saw a guy
in a shul
walking with a frock with tzitzis. Has
anybody ever seen this? Yes.
You've seen it in New York.
>> They also with a jacket also.
With a jacket?
>> short jacket. That would be a shtickel.
I think it's a shtickel you are. I don't
know what it is. It's it's just It could
be a guy mentally ill. He was also like
a mentally ill. He had
Oh. I have seen it everywhere.
Everywhere.
>> [laughter]
>> If he wasn't mentally ill before, he was
mentally ill after. Ish koach.
I appreciate the comment.
>> [laughter]
>> I'm not kind of giving away. Not sure.
You don't have tzitzis on your thing? On
my what? I don't know. On your jogging
No, no.
>> somewhere.
If he really didn't want that corner, he
should have cut it out. Why did he sew
it up? So, the sewing doesn't do any
much.
So, Reb Shmuel holds just going back to
that Mishnah, Reb Shmuel holds that each
tzitzis is a mitzvah if not more. Reb
Yehudah Shmuel Reb Shmuel He starts off
saying that when we're talking about
shatnez, when we're talking about
Shabbos,
uh five five corners, whatever the nafka
minahs are, the halacha like Reb Shmuel,
you put on tzitzis on all five corners.
You're not over on shatnez. You're not
over on Shabbos.
But, the Gemara says the later Sugos of
the Gemara say, "But, we don't pasken
like Shmuel." And the Gemara
that was not not like Reb Shmuel, and
you would need all four tzitzis, and you
would be over on shatnez, you would be
over on Shabbos. Reb Nachman also said,
"Story."
Reb Nachman also said to Mar bar Rav
Ashi be shatz of the rigla.
It was on Shabbos right before Yom Tov
where there's a drasha,
and he's walking behind Mar bar Rav
Ashi.
If sak kind of the chuta, he noticed
that one of the tzitzis popped out.
Where's my tzitzis here?
I don't know if we have one. Oh, no. Oh.
Oh, here we go.
This corner is missing completely.
He noticed it popped out.
Now, here's a good shaila.
What would you do? What would everybody
here do? Think about it. You see
somebody walking with a shishara without
tzitzis. You see somebody walking with a
certain jacket that you know that boss
that Canali, whatever the What's the
famous Giorgio Armani? I don't know what
has shot this. There's certain companies
that 100% have shot this. You see the
guy walking with a brand new tag that
shot. Do you tell him in the middle of
the street surrounded that is shot this
and therefore he has to
take off his his trousers in the middle
of the street or you're going to be a
nice guy, let him get home and when he
as he opens up the door he says, "By the
way, did you check for shot this?" What
would you do? Most of us would just let
him go.
Seems like from the Gamara that you're
not allowed to let him go. You got to
stop him straight there in the middle of
the street surrounded.
Reminds me a story they say about a
certain Godel.
I'm not going to say his name cuz it's
very possible it's not a true story.
Not not that it's a bad about the Godel,
but I don't know. I think it's a it
might be a made up story. Maybe. Who
knows?
Some guy lets came over to a Godel in
Bnei Brak and said,
"Your pants are are shot this."
In the middle of the street in the
middle of Bnei Brak. So, he took off his
pants.
He really felt really bad. He didn't
think he's going to take it off right
there.
So, he said, "No, no, I was just joking.
I was just a joke. Just a joke."
So, he says, "Once you say it, you don't
have a right to take it back." And he
had to walk home like that.
My sister come out to you.
Oh.
So, says the Gamara,
he
didn't mention a word to him.
In other words, he was worried that he's
going to have to take off his shirt in
public and this is my brother of Ashi
Godol Ador. You don't do that to him.
When he got home he said, "Reb Nehemiah
tells him, you know, I noticed
three blocks earlier that's when your
tsitsis became possul." Reb Nehemiah
tells him, "If you would have told me
over there,
if you would have told me over there,
I would have removed my garment." Now,
let's ask the question. Why why would he
remove the garment?
He has three tsitsis. What's wrong with
three tsitsis? According to Reb
Nehemiah,
if you have a garment with four corners
and you have three tsitsis, you keep on
wearing it. Each one is a mitzvah.
Obviously, we don't pass him Rebbi
Shimon.
We pass like Chachamim that you don't
You have to wear You have to have four.
That's the Gemara of all my my God the
cover of Brius should like this like
this should be Torah.
There's a concept of human dignity
that if a person could be embarrassed or
pushed off even a Lo Sason the Torah.
We have to see what that means. The
Gemara right away says it's not true.
Take them all Rabbi Shimon made of
Kahana.
The Lo Sason, not true. Not true.
There's only one
time that you're allowed to break of the
Orisa when you're embarrassed. So, a lot
of people take this as a This idea they
take it for Shabbos. I don't know I'm
not passing a law cuz I'm saying I'm
throwing this out there. You probably
should ask a rabbi. Although, you can't
ask a rabbi because the situation is in
the bathroom.
You're on Shabbos and there's toilet
paper and it's not torn. You What are
you going to do? And it's human dignity.
So, a lot of people say you're allowed
to rip because of
cover of Brius and you have to ask your
local I'm not even I'm just throwing out
where it comes into Rashi brings that
it's also toilet paper of those days.
It's talking about the stones. A stone
on Shabbos is Muktza. Muktza is the
Rabbonon.
So, when it comes to Lo Sason, what's Lo
Sason?
The famous everybody in Israel knows Lo
Sason. They they apply it also to them
in our days.
Are they allowed to name? But it says
Pias Torah Yirucha al Mishpat Yomi Tasa.
Whatever the the Chachamim We're going
to go with the Chachamim, the Tanoim,
the Amoraim. Lo Sason min ha Dover she
Lo Chochamim
You're not allowed to veer to the right
or to the left of what they tell you.
So, Chachamim said there's a concept
called Muktza. Muktza.
Muktza A lot of people when people on
Mechalel Shabbos will get say oh it's
Muktza. No. The Mechalel Shabbos that's
the Orisa and Muktza is the rabana.
Muktza means you can't touch certain
items because you might come to do a
melacha.
So, one of the items is a stone. A stone
is like a really bad muktza. It's even
worse than, let's say, a telephone or
something like a device.
A stone is muktza machmaso gufo, it has
no purpose unless you set it aside
before shabbos. So, the chachamim said
it's it's muktza.
Chachamim were mochel on their own
kavod.
They said, "We we established that this
is called muktza in this situation
because you're you're you're very
embarrassed. We're removing our
restriction. You're allowed to touch
muktza on shabbos. You need to use a
stone for the bathroom?
Can you imagine those days using stones
for toilet paper? Shame yerachem, I
don't want to go there." Yeah.
But,
az it is, and they they removed it.
So, don't get confused, the gemara says.
You We're talking about it. Is it de
oraisa or is it de rabana? If you can't
wear tzitzis on shabbos arur, you you're
carrying a shabbos arur, you can't use
all human dignity to cover that bris.
That don't That only applies by a
chachamim, by a issur de rabana.
By the way, the Rabbeinu Yonah says that
this this issur of lo yisa'ser, of issur
de rabana, sometimes is worse than de
oraisa.
When? When a person says, "Ah, it's only
de rabana."
When a person says, "It's only de
rabana,"
so now he made the issur of lo yisa'ser
a joke. He made fun of the issur of lo
yisa'ser.
And that's worse than any other issur.
What?
Yeah. No, I'm saying if a person eats
chazer,
so you have a ta'avah to eat chazer. You
didn't make fun of the Torah. He was
over on chazer. But, when a person says,
"Ah,
it's only de rabana. Who cares? I'm only
makpid on de oraisas."
Then he's he's making fun of this pasuk
right over here. "Lo yisa'ser min
ha'da'as." You give a kinyan min
ha'da'as. This is Rabbeinu Yonah Rishon.
Big diamond, some people say the story
was the opposite.
Maharsham Amalek, when his tzitzis
[clears throat] ripped in middle of
street, Ravina made a comment and said,
"Hey, my Rav Avashi, his tzitzis
ripped."
Rav Amaleh my day talk, why are you
telling me this? Lemish day you want me
to remove my shirt? Rav Amaleh matter.
Gotta cover up briyos. Should I say
tzitzis over there? I don't have to
remove my shirt.
I heard a This is This is emes. This is
the maiseh shai. There's a guy here in
Beit Shemesh
that, you know, younger guys go to him
and ask him shailos in halacha.
I know the person that I said, "I don't
understand something. Why are you
answering them halacha? Did you ever
learn halacha? Do you know halacha?" He
says, "No." He says, "So, why are you
passing shailos?" He says, "Gotta cover
up briyos, cuz they come to me and now
I'm embarrassed to say I don't know
halacha. So, gotta cover up briyos."
He said, "But, wait a minute, but you're
you're
you might be you machshil them in
deraisos." He says, "But, I have a rov.
Most of my psakim are good, so it's
botel berov." He starts giving him a
whole
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But, Tiyug Amora, Rav Bar Shvoka made it
Rav Kahana, but wait a minute. And this
is going back chazarah We have a little
chazarah today Baruch Hashem on base
also.
We're just doing over the sugi, but in
reverse.
But, but how can you not remove your
shirt in the middle of the street? This
idea of human dignity of koved habriyos
is only on a derabanan.
But, Tiyug Amora, Rav Shvoka made it Rav
Kahana.
Beloved
Beloved is also
It's only in derabanan.
By the way, stama interesting halacha
that I that I noticed
somebody was talking about a certain
halacha like on Shabbos if you wear a
tallis, you'll notice some people have a
busha to go around without a tallis. I'm
a married person, I'm going to be in
shul without a tallis? It's a busha. So,
a person like that could be some on
koved habriyos on Shabbos
to walk around with that tallis that's
not really has the enough tzitzis,
whereas a person who has no busha and
couldn't care less,
he's not allowed to wear it. It has to
do with human dignity, they say. Okay.
I go by what the says I mean this story
Carmel's the rabbonim this was uh uh
area like a field which is not a reshus
harabim and the whole list of the
carried there was the rabbonim so once
again rabbonim relaxed their issur of of
of muktzah of whatever it is
of carrying sorry of carrying in a
carmelis because of the busha that Mar
Bar Ravashi had with that
had a coin mint had a coin mint had a
coin mint.
So we're starting perek techeiles
and it says a techeiles ainam makeavis I
just want to throw this in.
We were talking the whole perek that we
just learned are things that are
makeavis one another things that are
important like the tzitzis we just said
the four is a very important you can't
walk around with three and now we're
going to talk about things that don't
are not makeavis. How do you say
makeavis in English?
Huh?
No.
Not men.
Dependent maybe? I don't know.
Essential?
Essential.
So I just want to give you a little
rundown. I do this once in a while here
I have a little bit extra.
As you know
I I dive in for many years in my
father-in-law's shul in Lakewood and we
have a very very kosher rav there who's
actually moving to Eretz Yisrael if you
didn't already.
Uh Rabbi Chaim Twerski tremendous
tremendous talmid chacham a big big
anderson
big baal kishron
and he knows a lot about science and all
math and all the stuff.
And he once gave a very very powerful
speech about techeiles in shul
and many people in shul started wearing
techeiles after that including my
father-in-law and his brother and his
sons.
And I I I heard the speech and I I was
okay.
Eight years ago they asked me speak here
in
in Shimon, and I said, "Okay, I'll speak
about this cuz I wanted to do this
Sugya." So, I read a few Seforim and
books about it.
And I gave a speech. It was the first
time that somebody actually got up in
Bnei Shimon. I had charts and pictures
and a whole thing.
>> [clears throat]
>> And after the speech,
a few people came over to me and said,
"I understand you just convinced
everybody that they should wear this.
You weren't so you're biased to one
side." So, you're biased to one side,
how come you don't wear this? I was
like, "Oh, you're right." Okay. So, I
started wearing this. So, that was eight
years ago. What was the speech? The
regular this.
The bottom line about the whole thing in
this whole controversy, call it a
controversy of this,
is that
99% almost everybody agrees that if you
do it, if you do wear this, you're not
over anything. The only thing you're
over is the task. You spent 240 shekels
on a pair of this. That's basically the
only problem.
>> [clears throat]
>> So, it starts with
the Regina. And I bring him in here
because the Regina Rebbe,
who was a huge scholar, wrote Seforim.
Regina, Razin, Razin,
in Hebrew, Razin, okay? Razin. He
went on a campaign to find the this. He
figured he could find it. And he went
spent many months in an aquarium
and went through all the different fish.
And it was the first time it was like in
a big aquarium in Europe. And he went
and he checked all the fish. And he
decided at the end of the day, he
decided it's this fish, the cuttlefish.
And the problem is that it doesn't have
blue dye.
So, they took the blood, they took the
scientists and chemists, and they they
discovered if they add a certain
chemical to it, it turns blue.
All right, the the day long had they
didn't like it. They all came out the
of and this and that can't be.
And what happened was at the end they
figured out that if you take that
chemical and you add it to the blood of
a of a cow, it turns to the same blue.
That's a big, big problem.
And uh also this blue, if you put it in
the washing machine, you wash it, it it
comes right out. And we know that
techeiles is something that stays in the
tzitzis and it can't come out.
Fast forward many years,
they found that the Gemara says that
there's a few simanim. First of all,
they made it between Sida and and and
Haifa, like I forgot the exact area, but
it's on it's by the ocean. It only comes
up every 70 years, doesn't come up. And
it's a chilazon. And the chilazon in
Hebrew is a snail, which doesn't doesn't
mean much in this sugya cuz it could be
something else.
But Rashi does say somewhere that it has
a shell.
Now, cuttlefish is a regular fish,
doesn't have a shell. So, it has a
shell. Seems like it's some sort of
snail.
And they go on there's a lot of
circumstantial evidence,
a lot.
And they go on to say that they found
from Lebanon all the way down throughout
the whole shore, they found millions of
these and here this is what it looks
like. This this is the the
the shell of the murex, famous murex
trunculus, whatever it's called.
And
they found that the in one situation
they found a pit the size of a football
field with millions and millions of
these shells and that rise they
extracted. Now, one of the arguments is
and there's a lot of arguments both ways
that maybe they're just extracting it
because when you pull the blood out it
has a little sack. My mother said the
Gemara says it's not the blood, it's a
sack. You pop pop it out and the color
is argaman.
Purple. I had the thing, I forgot to
bring it today. Beautiful purple.
You have purple? Yeah, so send it this
way.
>> [snorts]
>> I have a I see a bunch of people that
already came. Uh
Oh, the argaman. Here we go. Oh, a whole
box. Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah.
Shkoyach. Yeah, this I have.
The argaman. So, this is argaman. Yeah,
it's a beautiful purple.
And
so maybe they were doing it for the
argaman
they discovered they didn't know what to
do. What do you do with
with this it seems right. It seems like
it's the right thing.
And then they discovered some sort of in
the process and that's what we're going
to see on Motzei Shabbos. By the way,
Shiur Motzei Shabbos in
um Tilt Cheilet Tilt in Kiryat David
the Hebrew Shiur basically is already
sold out. You have to register. The
English Shiur I never said you have to
register so nobody registered yet. So
I'm saying today
that please register. There's only room
for like I don't know 200 people maybe
and uh
we have to know how much food and
whatever to So in the middle of the
process of the if you stop it you bring
it into sunlight it turns into blue.
So okay. So it turns into blue. Now
one of the fascinating things about this
and this is what really got me is that
the Gemara says there's something called
Koli Ilan. It exists till this very day.
It's called indigo. Gemara says that the
color of indigo the blue that comes
and I have to say this also there is no
blue in nature. There's no blue dye.
They couldn't make anything blue in
those days. The only way they can make
it is from two things.
From indigo and from
this murex
or
what we think from the from the Chilazon
whatever the Chilazon is.
And
and that's one of the reasons why
the Romans at a certain point said
nobody could use you can't you can't
produce Chailos. The stopped
Chailos. The Amoraim were still wearing
Chailos. The way past the Medrash that
says that Chailos was Nignaz which Rav
Chaim Kanievsky always quotes.
The It's Mefurash in the Gemara that
certain Amoraim were wearing Chailos and
it's many generations after that.
So but why did they bury it? Because it
was so important to them. They all the
kings wore Chailos and they didn't want
the commoners to stop Chailos and they
buried it. That's what the historians
say. Al Kol Panim.
This is all circumstantial. There's no
100% evidence but one of the crazy
things, and this is what I showed back
then in middle shear,
is that the Gamorah says that
indigo
and chailus are exactly the same color,
and whoever tries to pass off a pair of
indigo tzitzis as if he's selling
chailus, Hakadosh Baruch Hu is going to
give him a really bad punishment because
only Hakadosh Baruch Hu could tell the
difference.
And what got me,
the one of the things, is
that this is indigo.
And every every uh everything in this
world has a molecular composition.
And the composition of indigo is this
number right over here, C16H10, da da
da. It happens to be that this murex dye
is exactly the same composition. It has
the exact numbers, everything, one to
one. And it's very rare to have two
things in
the universe
that one one is uh a living creature and
one is a plant to have the same exact
composition.
Ain Sham or the other name. But it is a
similar color, very and the chailus that
they have doesn't wash out.
And
the fact that
you don't really lose. Okay, so now you
have the problem, the big big number one
kasha that everybody has. The number one
is if it's so true and it's so real, why
didn't Reb Chaim Kanievsky wear it?
And why didn't Reb Elyashiv wear it?
So there's a story that they like to say
over. I have no idea, it's probably not
true. Say that they went to Reb Elyashiv
and they said, "How come you don't wear
chailus?"
So he said, "Because if I say that I if
I wear chailus, then everybody's going
to have to wear chailus, and I don't
know if it's 100% and I don't want
everybody to have to spend all this
money. It's a lot of money.
You have to give it to your kids. It's
250 shekel just the tzitzis itself.
By the way, there's a big discount on
Motzei Shabbos. I don't know what it is,
but
fine.
So
so they said, "Okay, so then why don't
you wear it bit zina? How come you don't
put it in by the way I know of a lot of
that wear bit zina. A lot of and I know
I have friends that wear bit zina.
A lot of people wear bit zina cuz it's
not a it's not the thing to do.
So he said, "Who told you I don't wear
bit zina?"
>> [laughter]
>> So to be was like one of these you know
like you want me to wear bit zina then
you ask me how can I I can't tell if I
wear bit zina then it won't be bit zina.
Fine.
So that's that piece
a guy wrote me a beautiful email today
to debunk the whole thing. One of the
things he wrote in there
in Hebrew he says I want you to know the
other and he brought up some points I
never really thought about. He says if
it's true that
and are the same color but that's just a
question of the
why did they use something that's so
hard to come by and you have to dive
into the ocean and get it they ask us
every 7 years you need divers to get it.
Why don't they just use indigo? What's
the what's the benefit of using
has a lot of here.
I put it on the screen you could take a
look at the
you have
and this and that.
I'm I'm never I'm never the one to say
it's 100% I'm saying if it's 51% if
there's some sort of
You have another you might be
a
of here's a question I want to ask them.
The says here's the book.
Some of you say it every day.
What's a bigger what's more important
in the white strings or the blue
strings? The says you have to wear blue
strings. What's more important? The
white
it's more common.
That's not the reason but you might be
right.
Wow. I see.
The only one that knew the answer.
By the way, Ashi's giving lessons in
Kaddish Shulkin. He made a He's 400%
better than he was a month ago, and he's
giving the lessons, he said.
Yeah?
Okay. You're laughing. I thought that
was I thought you were for real. Fine.
So
great.
Um where's my tzitzis over here?
Just as a side note
There are three areas of a tzitzis.
There's the psil,
there's the chulyah,
and the gdil. Anybody know what is what?
Where's the psil?
Where's the gdil? Where's the chulyah?
The individual is the psil. The chulyah
is the
>> [laughter]
>> Here. Here we go.
The chulyah
are
each
inch one.
The gdil. This is the gdil.
And the psil is this guy over here.
Okay?
Psil tcheiles. This is The strings that
hang down are the psil. Okay. Says the
Mishna.
Oh, wow. Now that we have 10 minutes to
do amud aleph and amud bais
>> [laughter]
>> Ah, I got to show you. This is super
Yeah, thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
To answer the question why I wear
but Rav Chaim Kanievsky doesn't wear
tcheiles.
So this is super important. I only
showed it once in the last 7 years. I'm
showing it to you here today.
Make it loud, please.
This guy made him crazy. Okay, let me
just He made him crazy.
He's arguing with him about the nignaz.
It is a nignaz. it. Why? Or if you
believe in it, you should wear it.
>> [laughter]
>> What he says over here is very, very
important to me.
Is that he says if you hold that you're
if you hold that this is it, then you
have to put it on to wear it. That's
what he says. If you hold Huh?
Yeah.
You must be quiet.
Fine.
You have to know the background. I
believe I saw the whole thing and he
just kept on He said, "Okay, you're
fine." That's what they're going to say.
But
he gave a heads-up here for those who
want to You're not
Cuz if you believe it, then you and he
says, "Please be mighty me."
He says, "How could I be mighty to you?
You know, it's not possible." He says,
"If you really believe it, then okay."
Says the "I can't tell you to love on."
If you only have white strings, you wear
the white strings, like you guys.
And the And the white is not
So if you only have blue, put on the
blue.
We learned this. If you only have one
one filling
Let's say you only have So we went
through this. Let's see if the
remembers. You only have to rush. You're
not on vacation. You're on a plane. So
you only have to rush.
What do you do? You put it on. How many
do you make if you're
not smart?
Two
Usually you make one, but now since you
don't have to make both. Oh, God. As the
Israelis, they had no clue.
Yeah, you did. Okay.
>> [snorts]
>> Sticking up for the Israelis. We'll go
back to the videotape. Everything is
videoed.
By the way, just a real quickly, the the
tail is it says over here, if you don't
have blue, we're just white. If you
don't have white, we're just blue. Over
here,
Tzitzit ain't like the Torah, but you
have to wear you have to do all strings
blue.
All strings white. Over here, you don't
have to wear two pairs of roish. You do
one out of the two. So, it's a slightly
different
concept, but it's nevertheless it's
makiv and not makiv.
>> Makiv.
You're looking to see if the pshat over
here is
up at the ashkenaz? The word makiv, we
don't have it. And what does it say over
here? Here it says necessary. It's not
exactly Yeah, we can do better. Yeah,
let's see what they say. Let's see what
they say.
You invite these guys on the spot. It
says daf, not ours. He's
>> [laughter]
>> It says the marlin message is like the
Rebbe. My bad. Perhaps our mission
doesn't go according to the Rebbe. Why?
The sign is my sign. Now, we're talking
about two
two strings, two types of strings, blue
and white. So, why does it say you
should see it in singular? It, what's
it?
So, the machlokes how do you learn the
word it? You should look You should see
it. The
it means as a as the two of them are one
unit.
Look at it, the way Rebbe. So, in other
words, without the blue, don't do white.
According to Rebbe, Rebbe all of you
guys who are not wearing blue, you
shouldn't be wearing tzitzis according
to Rebbe. Rebbe, Rebbe the author of the
Mishnah holds
blue without blue, do not wear white.
We obviously don't pasken like him.
The Rebbe
my time what did the Rebbe say it's not
makiv?
Sorry, my time the Rebbe said konof. The
Rebbe my time the Rebbe my time the
Rebbe what's pshat in Rebbe? The Rebbe
konof it's it's extra. The word konof is
extra, it says it already. Min konof.
What color were most of the garments in
the time of chazal in the have of the
Torah? White. They didn't have the the
dye that we have today. So, that means
that the the strings should be white
mink on it. Should be from the same
uh fabric, the same min as the beggar.
Ooh, save sit dress. It also says blue.
I'm not going to read some of this side.
Singular. You should see the two types
of strings, white and blue. You should
see it. I think it the right but hard
meaning it should be like one. But I
bought it on the reason I saw it cuz I
had to do the mash ma. By the way, we're
going to do this tomorrow all over
again. So,
it means each and every one a singular.
The white is it. The blue is it.
Go ahead and do the mash ma. So, they're
not mocking one another.
I lay him at the liquor abbey. The choir
admission that says that clay was not
mocking. It's not necessary. It's not
What do you call it? Essential.
What does he say?
>> He says essential. Essential.
Not exactly mocking.
Okay? A limited factor.
It's two words though.
Mocking of you is Oh, it isn't. Okay,
good enough. Fine. I'm going to be the
mayor of no I feel the same way about
the hour mystic of like Rebbe. What the
mission says that one is not mocking the
other. Rebbe says the blue is mocking
the white. The white you cannot do one
without the other. But what the mission
says it's not mocking is another type of
Allah. I bought this. I don't know why.
Just for one just to
do this that it's so simple. I don't
know why I had to buy the strings and
everything.
Made somebody run to the store for me.
But it was interesting. We had two guys
from Mishkan Tchelet here. The guys that
do these tzitzis for me also.
And I asked the guy. I said he said he
said, "I'm not the I'm not the culture.
He's the culture." I said, "Okay. What
are you supposed to put into the hole
first?"
He wasn't so aware of this this Allah.
And it's a Allah. They supposed to put
the white string into the hole first.
The cotton. It's called the cotton. The
Adam killer put it in.
Okay, all this.
White first, blue second. Why? Cuz white
is more important like actually said.
White is more is more You know what I'm
going to say a few times. Rashi brings
it out.
Feel that the Adam the sign of the
mitzvah to put the white before the
blue. Then he
and if he made a mistake and he did blue
first, he also it's okay.
I'll do mitzvah.
I did over there a boy side.
I been
putting into everybody's head that
shown all of a sudden
in kitchen if it says it twice, it's my
active.
And what about if it's not in kitchen?
Then one time is my active.
I don't think I was so clear about that.
And says it over here before first.
Says it says
The Torah says it once should be my
active. I like being in China like if
you don't need twice. I'll be a kitchen.
So if I said it wrong the entire
and in this bottom as well I realized it
out to miss out this. So I apologize.
One is my active in the whole Torah.
Kitchen is a cooler not a cooler.
It's the all
one is not enough. You need the Torah to
repeat itself twice in order to make it
essential.
Does he
says the my what does it mean? You
missed out on Mitzvah of that
we have a sponsor for the day.
Turning of the day off a dark global
happy clients all year not just this
month. Oh. And take a look at this. We
opened up only for people that bought
that in and look how many people grabbed
their that
because
I'm not going to be able to read their
names now cuz we're very very late on
time. But here you go. Joe good
Oh, Joe good Dalius took a bunch of them
over here.
Jacob Gindi and square Godel my old.
Okay.
2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 people held on 16
that were held on. Great.
So, what does it mean?
If you tell me it means we actually have
another 9 minutes to go even though
we're late we started late because of
the trailers.
So,
I want to remind them there's a mitzvah
to have special food today. I'm excited.
I should just be excited. Doesn't mean
you should you know how and everything
but it means one special item to cover
the trailers. I'm excited to miss every
trailers. I'm excited to miss the love
of the trailers.
What does it mean? It means that you
missed out. You didn't put the strings
in correctly. You only did white not
blue. What do we say? According
to this it's no good at all.
All of you
what does it mean?
Like we said before I'm excited to miss
what does it mean?
That you didn't do the
you didn't put the string you didn't put
the white in before the blue. The miss
of the trailers.
That's the great. That's one way but the
mission says that one is not this way.
The white is not the blue and the blue
is not the white. You just said that the
white is not the blue that if you put
the blue in before the white you you
like so. But how do you do the reverse?
If
you by mistake put into the hole the
blue string is not my
But what's the opposite case?
This is a famous thing people say about
it's a
but it really comes from
how to
we have a little video here for that.
>> [snorts]
>> Oh, I I want to show you the
that that the Yoshi did a couple things.
These are the the shells. You have to
dive to get it. It's not simple. That's
why the says it takes 170 years.
I don't want to miss any videos here.
But get to the rest we'll see on
Shabbos. I don't want to give away the
whole
There's a little sack in there that that
has that uh
Okay.
But I wanted to show you
this video.
First of all, real quickly, I got to
show you this. Just I want to show you
how things changed. We used to do 3D
animation. This video, which was a hit
in that time, was only a year and a half
ago or so, 2 years. And I want to point
out how the tzitzis
were not flexible in the video. It was
so hard to flex Every movement A video
like this took 4 days, two people 4
days.
Look at his tzitzis, how stiff. You'll
see soon when he bends over. Here you
go. They They remain
Here we go.
It's unbelievable. So, but here we go.
This is
Fast forward to this.
This is
>> [music]
>> cool tailors.
This is tzvat.
Because the beach the the the ocean
reminds you of the heaven. The tailors
remind you of [music] the beach, and the
beach reminds you of the heaven.
The blue jeans, blue everything. And
he's supposed to put in the blue In this
case, you saw what he just did? He put
the blue in before the white.
>> [music]
>> Why? Because his beged is blue. Since
his garment is blue, he's supposed to
put the blue in before the white.
The shilo.
What if you're a soldier and you wear
green and you have a green undershirt
and you want to put tzitzis? Do you need
green tzitzis?
It might be preferred. I don't know. Let
me tell you that's equal to treilas. The
what? So now you have to reverse. In a
in a beg in a white garment you're
supposed to put the white first and then
the blue. But in a blue garment you're
supposed to put the blue and then the
white. It's minami. Are you you're king?
Okay, so now we're going to do the same
gamora over b'chazara.
Don't sit down. Stand on your feet until
you can explain this to me.
It goes both ways. One is not essential
for the other. You can put white without
the blue, blue without the white. My,
what does it mean?
If you have a white garment
The mitzvah
the mitzvah is to put the white strings
in first. My time of why? Ha kon of min
kon of it should be the tzitzis should
be the same color as the beged. If you
act in
and if you put in the blue first less
than blue you're not over anything.
And what's the reverse case? If
if the garment is blue then you have to
put the blue in first. The mitzvah is
like the ratio.
The kon of min kon of because now your
garment is blue so your tzitzis should
be the same
Uh, what's the word I'm looking for?
The same uh
same fabric, the same color as the the
garment. If you put in the white before
the blue less than blue I don't
understand you. You want me to tie it to
the garment?
Who who where did the Torah The Torah
says put white before blue. The Torah
never said it it should match up to the
garment.
So
I have a video for gardum also which I
forgot. Remind me to show to the
Israelis.
How does How does a person have Here.
You have this uh this is that. I had a
one of my kids sit this. Gardumen means
that if
you
you go like that and now it's a
gardumen. Gardumen. According to Rashi,
it's after all the knots. After all the
knots, you have a little piece hanging
out. Is this kosher or not? Well,
depends how how big it is. If it's very
small that you can't make a a slip knot,
then it's possible. How do you get the
gardumen? So, Goshi is going to show you
how to get to the gardumen.
There's one in the middle that Mendy's
not going to like so much, but whatever.
I gave him a heter to sew it.
Mendy gave me the look. He gave me the
look.
This happened to my brother-in-law.
Not really, but they took his towel
back. Remember they stole his stuff?
They stole his
All right. So, if the gardum tcheiles is
like oil on one, so there's two there's
two conditions here, Rebbi Shai. First
of all, you have to have all the other
color strings in contact. They they have
to be whole, sholem.
And the strings that you don't have that
are ripped, uh sorry, I don't want to
forget this point, very important point.
It's referring to strings that were the
right They were the right length. They
were good. They were kosher. And then
they ripped. Because if you start off
and where they're tiny, no good. It's
only because they had the hex before and
they were tiny.
Number two is that even the piece that's
ripped
it's not just one string. Think about
it. It's not one string because every
string has a counterpart.
It's four strings that make eight.
And if one of the eight is ripped
it's partner on the other side is is
whole and that's okay. So when it says
that it's ripped, two strings ripped, I
don't know how you know both in the
blue, it's easy. I do blue.
By the way, oh I got to show this to
you. Where was it?
We're running out of time here, that's
fine.
This is from
Till Kyles. These are all the sheets of
how you could tie it. I do grow this
way. So if you look at grow this also
the Ram says only one Kyles in so that's
two strings. The rabbit said two strings
which is four to where you you you turn
you double it up so it becomes four and
according to Tysus it's four Kyles,
unbelievable. So
these are all the different ways you
could go crazy that people in Michigan
Kyles and all do all these
great. So if you're if you're grow so
now you only have two strings that are
blue.
So the only way if it's ripped if both
blues are ripped now you know that you
got a real problem logically. And
according to Rashi the rip happens below
the knots, below the knot. According to
Tysus if there's some remaining over
here it's still kosher. The the rip is
all the way on top over here according
to Tysus. Okay.
So I think tomorrow
we'll just get here and finish up. We
have 22 seconds.
Uh
oh my ladies what are you guys doing? Do
you guys have Kyles for Kyles and if
this Kyles and this
the the Kyles ripped but it's white be
guided them love them with Kyles. That's
all. I don't remember here got to do
with Kyles Kyles and
if it's left over it's kosher we got to
do with Kyles. The Azov is the that uh
the hisop that that you sprinkle on on
on a tummy it has a sheer of a tefach.
The the sheer of tzitzis is 12 thumbs.
Omar
Bar Hamadure Omar Shmuel K'dei Lanvan
should be able to make a slipknot which
is basically Okay, I'm not going to do
it now. You know how to do a slipknot
but you could
uh not this way.
Um okay. We you just pull it and it
undoes itself with one pull like a tie.
Um Kulam B'Yachad doesn't mean all the
ripped ones have to be tied together or
each one K'chol Echad Echad Echad
L'chudei
Teiku
each one is individual. The Gemara
doesn't have an answer. Raboisai Gut Yom
