we are here today in teaneck new jersey
what are we doing here
at the one year anniversary of all that
we put out a video reel
we got a message from a boy charlie
breda
who said i started learning dr yomi at
12 years old in sixth grade
and not only that i use all that and
teach that the only to my friends
join me as we go in and meet charlie
[Music]
due to the current situation we are
sitting on opposite sides of the table
we can't get too close
but we figured it's a great opportunity
to have a
conversation with charlie what made a
then 12 year old boy
start learning that fiomi i was really
inspired by the cma shots
and a few of my rabbanam at school were
doing it i was like maybe i'll just try
for a little bit
i found this amazing app old off easy
convenient way to do the daf
very quickly and i really liked it and
now i've been going
how did you find all that how did you
find out about it actually at the cinema
shots i'm pretty sure they said
something
about aldoff and i was like oh when i
get home i'll try it out
and then my brother caleb he was like oh
did you get
off yet and then i decided to get it mom
when you were hurt he's learning to feel
me
what was your reaction it was very
impressive to me that he would take on
something like this
the thing that always um really impacted
me the idea of daffy me is the fact that
you can be anywhere in the world and
everyone is literally on the same page
it's such a beautiful
custom that you know we have that you
can join in on a sheer
wherever you are it never matters i was
also so impressed that he was willing to
take on such a big commitment at such a
young age
and it's incredible to hear to hear it
coming from the basement you know his
cave where he goes to uh
to learn anytime one of us creeps near
the steps or starts to walk downstairs
he immediately stops
so but we can hear it all through the
house and it's
it's a really incredible thing dad you
got involved at the beginning in the da
field learning yourself
yep we um we all went to the cm charlie
caleb charlie's brother and i and the
whole scene was very inspiring and right
after the cm we all
downloaded aldoff and we were learning
brachos each on our own but we would
talk about it at night
we're all listening to rabbi leibowitz
there's some really great topics in
bracos that
i had some great conversations about and
regret it regrettably that's all i got
through for daphiomi
um but it but it was a great time period
to kick it off
so you downloaded olaf and you opened up
the app
and you see many shoe room did you go
through some of them to figure out which
one talks to you
and what you end up with um i went
straight for by aria lee bowitz
because my dad told me about him and
it was 40 minutes quick you listen to
double speed
it's good 20 minutes um it was quick
really understandable
and it was the one for me amazing that
speed option is crucial right
awesome
okay now be honest
tafiomi is challenging especially when
you get to challenging suggest for
example in aravind
even for 43 year old adults
it's challenging how'd you get through
that
um i missed a couple days because
a couple of days i was just like no i
can't do this it's super hard
but i marked it down and then i came
back to it at the end
and i was able to finish it i just kept
going i learned with my rabbi in camp
for a couple of it
so that really helped um and i listened
to shiarim i learned with my friends
just like support it really helped very
very important to have
that support group did you ever want to
give up uh
in the middle of arriving i think i
wanted to give up maybe once or twice
but i decided to just keep pulling there
so one of the things you told us was
that you actually
give a share to your friends now i
didn't do
any research but i would safely assume
you're probably the youngest daffy
magazine on planet earth
what do you think to that special title
it's pretty cool it's pretty amazing
and can you just tell us a little bit
how that process works that you're a 13
year old boy
and you give a shear do your friends ask
questions if they ask questions you
don't know the answer
you able to say i don't know the answer
let's just move on
uh for the most part yeah every day um
around 7 30 i'd say
7 30 7 40. i'd go downstairs i'd go on
the zoom talk to my friends for a little
bit
and be like alright let's get started
i'll start the recording
and then we'll just learn and if they
have a question for the most part
it'll be like oh the answer is coming up
good question and
sometimes it'll just be like too
confusing i'll be like i don't know i'll
look into that i'll get back to you
this guy's a professional already what
would you tell
anybody whether they're learning that
feel me or they've taken on
any other torah learning or anything
that can help them grow
in their spiritual lives what's your
message from charlie
in teaneck new jersey i tell them to
just keep going even
sometimes when it seems hard to just
pull through if you miss
a doff or a parrot or whatever you're
doing just mark it down and either
go back and learn it the next day or
when you're when you're almost done
or when you're ready be like oh i think
i should go back and learn this
so charlie as soon as we heard that i
believe is your rabbi
you're that feel me rabbi i reached out
to him and i said we're going to visit
charlie
and t-neck can you send us a
personalized message
special to charlie and come over i want
to show it to you
should i play it yeah yeah absolutely hi
charlie this is arya leibowitz from
north whitmire and from aldaf
the people at oldaf told me about you're
learning the daphyomi
and teaching the daffo me ever since
january and they told me
how old you are and it's just hard to
believe that someone your age has had
that level of commitment and
understanding
to the deaf and you should just continue
to grow each and every day
by learning more and more torah every
single day
try to understand it as best as you can
and be able to
uh to to build on your learning and your
year of shamayim and your general uh
torah knowledge always and bring a lot
of nachas to your parents and
your entire tea neck community and the
whole noam
school uh yeshiva and uh i look forward
to meeting you one day perez
hashem continued and keep inspiring
everybody else take care wow that's
amazing
i believe it's a special person charlie
we have one more surprise for you
something that should come in very handy
for the gaming magazine
here it is
is it oh that's so cool it's just
standard
take it out
whoa it's a three-way standard yeah and
it has a name on it it's
gold should we bring a gemara right now
for you to start saying a share
thank you guys so much it's our pleasure
it was great meeting you guys
i'm so excited we got to come down and
talk to you
and meet your parents it's a true
inspiration to everybody when we see
a family where not just the boy himself
is into the daf
the family supports him it is beautiful
charlie
you're talking about rabbi rose as the
inspiration
that fiomi rabbi who got you going what
do you say we go give him a visit at
school
i said that's a good idea
[Music]
[Applause]
okay we are here at ishibat noam where
charlie
goes to school we have rabbi rozelinski
and
rabbi hagler and rabbi pardo who is the
director of
ou torah initiatives and is from the
community so
were you aware of charlie deciding to
take this step to start learning
daphyomi how'd that happen
so last year when corona happened and
the whole world basically fell apart
um charlie actually reached out to me on
one of the rebellion shiva noam
and he asked me would i be willing to
give a daffiom shir
to him and a bunch of his friends
charlie was in sixth grade at the time
um and all of the the boy the the
students who were in this
in this daf yomishiro were in sixth
grade how could i how could i not
how could i not do it we started daffy
oma here at ishiba nominal middle school
about
six or seven years ago um that was
meeting on a daily basis during lunch
where they tell me them just took their
lunch with one of their bayham and
learned
daf yomi um and then once corona came
and school closed down with virtual
that stopped existing and that's when
charlie said no it's got to keep going
by definition it's yomi and corona was
not going to stand in his way and
thereby rosalinski who does everything
said
he's going to continue this and uh and
that's how it got started uh
continued even during corona any pieces
of advice for charlie is he's now uh
let's see one-seventh of the way through
the journey my best advice to
to to somebody to anybody but certainly
somebody youngest doing da fiomi
is um i i think we should focus less on
the dof and more in the yomi
it's about kovaya timlatora um
and i believe that's really the idea of
daffy ome daf you do an almod
it's yomi that you've used this as a
vehicle to set aside time to
be covered eat with torah um on a daily
basis
so proud of my brother charlie he went
to her every day and it's
really good to have a big brother like
that thank you guys so much for coming
out it's really nice meeting you guys
the whole
all doc team very amazing group of
people yeah
and it was really fun to hang out with
you guys today
you
