I was once invited to speak to a very
large school in Brazil. Many many
students, teenagers about their career
and their future vocations. So I decided
to share with them this story and this
message. There was once a Jewish doctor
who came to a new city. He was never
there before. And he thought he'll
immediately be successful. After all, he
was a doctor and everybody needs
doctors. But he was dismayed cuz there
were so many doctors already in town.
His career was just not taking off. He
heard that the rabbi in the town was a
very wise man. So he came to consult
with the rabbi. He says, "What should I
do? You know, nobody knows me here. I
don't I barely have any clients. Rabbi,
I'll tell you what to do." Put in an ad
in the newspaper that a new doctor came
to town. Put your telephone number and
somebody will call you for an
appointment. Tell them that you don't
have an appointment for a few months.
You're booked. And whoever calls you for
an appointment, give them all the same
15 minutes so that they should see that
you're very, very busy. And whenever
somebody stops you in the street or
stops you in Shaw or in the supermarket
and wants to ask you any medical advice,
always look at your watch and say, you
know, I would love to help you, but I'm
very very busy. I have so many so many
patients waiting. I couldn't just stand
here and give advice. I am so so sorry.
I got to go. Great. He follows the
advice of the rabbi and indeed he puts
in an ad. After a few days, he gets a
call. He wants to tell the person, "Come
now. Come now." Now the poor guy didn't
have any clients but he remembered the
advice of the rabbi and he gave him an
appointment for 3 months. I have 3
months AND HE SAYS, "YEAH, LISTEN. YOU
THINK I HAVE TIME? Everybody wants to
see me." Within a few months, Rumor went
to town. We have here the biggest
doctor. Everybody wants to see him.
Everybody is clamoring to get an
appointment with him. And indeed, on the
day of the appointment, he was running
from office to office, from patient to
patient. Sigan Levick. Within a few
months, the man's practice was booming
away. And indeed, anybody he met in the
street, I have to run. I have to run.
Within a year, he was making a mint. He
got this name of this exceptional doctor
that you have to work so hard to get an
appointment with. Anyway, beautiful life
is great. Barak Hashem. A few years
pass. One day, the doctor is walking on
the street. Who does he meet? The rabbi.
The good old rabbi. And the rabbi says,
"Oh, doctor. Good morning. Shalom. How
are you? By the way, my wife woke up
today with a migraine headache. What can
I do for her?" The doctor, loyal to the
instructions, looks at his clock and he
says, "Rabbi, how dare you? You think I
have nothing to do? I'm a busy, busy
man. I am so sorry, but the officer
waiting with tons and tons of patience.
You can't just stop me in the here and
and ask me for advice. That's completely
unfair, completely not the right thing.
You make an appointment like everybody
else and I'll see you. The rabbi looks
at him and very patiently and very
calmly says, "Doctor, remember who made
you busy?" And when he asks you for a
few minutes, you give it to him. And I
told the children, "You're all going to
be very, very successful. You'll build
companies. You'll build organizations.
You'll build businesses. Whatever you go
into, I'm sure God will grant you
success. You're wise kids. You're
ambitious. You have it together. You
want to be successful. You're ready to
work hard. I'm sure you'll do amazing
with God's grace. But I just want you to
remember, never forget who made you
busy. And when he asks you for a few
minutes, so for some time, don't run
away. The creator of the world. He gave
you your brain and he gave you your
heart. He gave you your 60 trillion
cells which allow you to function. He
gave you your capacity. He gave you your
oxygen. He gave you everything you have.
And he asks that once a week for 24
hours, you should dedicate time for your
soul, for your family, for your creator,
for your community, for your friends,
for internal spiritual connection. Are
you going to say, "I'm busy. I have
nothing to do. 24 hours I'm supposed to
shut my store, shut my website. This is
THE TIME I MADE. I'M A BUSY MAN." AND
Hashem tells you, "Don't forget who made
you busy." Chabas.
