Very often in life, we look forward and
we see our destination and we see that
we're not there yet. We're not getting
there yet. I thought I would be here
already. I thought I'd be done this
maka. I thought I'd be done with this
gate zahara. I thought I'd be finished
this job. I thought the goal would be
accomplished already. And I'm still not
there. And there's so much more work to
do. I was in the yeshiva the whole year.
And now it's been as mon with I I pushed
a little bit, but like I'm back to
square. Am I back to square one now?
Like I I want to be there already. A lot
of times we have this feeling. And
perhaps because I'm not there yet. I'm
not good enough. Or I look at myself
like I'm not good enough cuz I was
supposed to be there. All my friends are
there already. Or even if they're not
there, one guy is there, two guys are
there. I wish I was there. Like I'm just
I'm a nobody. I'm struggling. I'm still
struggling. I'm still here. I can't
believe it. It's a few years later.
And a lot of times we forget how far
we've come, how many moves we've made,
how many daff we've done already. You're
right. You're not done the mak yet. But
but look the other way for a second.
Look to see how many pages you turned.
Not just turned, but also learned. Look
to see how how much you've accomplished,
how much you've already done. A lot of
times when our focus is on something, we
forget everything else. Everything is
bad today. Everything is bad because
this thing I woke up with a headache.
Everything is bad. Everything's bad.
Everything Everything Nothing is good
when you You have children who are in
camp. That's not a It's not a good thing
to have children. It's not Everything is
You have a car that works perfectly
fine. You have You have a house. You
have AC. You have electricity, if you
know what I'm saying. You have a You
have So, everything is bad. When you're
focused on something, a lot of times
everything else falls away and you're
totally I'm in a stickle whatever with
my wife right now. I'm in a stickle
thing with this and with that, but we
have a brutal relationship. We have a
terrible What are you talking about?
Look how much you look Look how much
you've done. Look how much you
accomplished. Stop for one second and
write a few things that you did just
this year that you thought you'd never
be able to come to. That you thought
you'd never be able to do. You did it.
So, what are you talking about? The
problem is that we focus on where we're
where we're not. We're not there yet.
Sometimes you have to look back. You
have to be very careful cuz sometimes
looking back could be dangerous. That's
why there's the line look forward cuz
you're not going backwards. But
sometimes you have to look back at your
accomplishments and realize that okay
maybe you're a little disappointed now
that you're not there yet but okay but
at the same time look how much you've
done. You probably never thought you'd
even be here and you are here.
We have goals and we have desires and we
want to get to certain places whether
it's innas whether it's in gashmas but
we have to remember that we're still
doing very well very well. That means
when you're learning if you're not
exactly where you want to be okay but
look where you are. when it comes to
Shmeir right you're trying every single
day and yeah maybe you failed today
maybe you're not there maybe you're not
it's not perfect okay but look how much
you've done look how many clicks you've
clicked if you know what I'm saying is
the same thing one of the areas where
people fall apart look how much you've
done look how much you've accomplished
look how many times you fought and you
got to keep going but you have to also
look at your accomplishments
and yeah we're not always there and
sometimes it does take time but too
often we become disappointed that we're
not where we want to
And then we give up and then because we
give up then it's over. So you see from
over here there is an idea of looking
back and realizing that every step I
took was important. [snorts] And I and I
did do a lot and I am special and and
Hashem still believes in me. He's always
going to believe in me. But these are
important ideas. If you consider the the
path to greatness is by traveling
through difficulty.
And in our position now it's not a
failure. It's just we're going to get
there. But you have to be carrying your
successes also. meaning realize how much
you've done. I think it's a very
important thing. Look how far you've
come. When it comes to bad things and
whatever, don't look back or this thing
that thing because that will take you
down. But when it comes to looking at
the good things that you have, I think
it's important sometimes to look back
and see how many pages you've done. How
many paras have you done?
Last year I did zero. So this year I
made it till I made it to whatever it
was. [snorts] I'm not saying to stop
continue. But use that to push you. Use
that as an incentive. Look how good I've
done. Let me continue.
>> [gasps]
>> Don't give up on yourself. Don't become
depressed because you're not there yet.
It's part of the journey. It's part of
life. So, you'll get there.
But don't take all your accomplishments
and throw them out because right now
you're focused on that you're not there
yet. That's the idea.
