Translation: O Merciful One, who answers the poor, answer us; O Merciful One, who answers the brokenhearted, answer us. - From a concluding prayer in the Selichos service. This melody was taught by the Rebbe on the holiday of Simchas Torah in 1959. It starts at a slow tempo and progressively picks up speed. The Rebbe explained that at first one beseeches God with a broken heart. As the melody continues, and the individual feels that his heart is broken, he is then filled with faith that God will do what is best for him, and he becomes joyous. "And when we are 'broken hearted,'" the Rebbe concluded, "we will certainly be answered by God."
