Levaya Funeral of Rabbi Yehuda Tirnauer, Rav of Shomrei Shabbos Shul
VIN News - R' Yehuda Halevi Tirnauer, Rov of the Shomrei Shabbos Shul in Boro Park was niftar this afternoon at the age of 88, surrounded by his sons, grandsons and sons in law. R' Tirnauer was the Rov in the landmark Shul for over 40 years. A long time fixture in Boro Park the Shomrei Shabbos Shul has minyanim running literally all day every day with Kol Torah resonating from the third floor beis medrash twenty four hours a day. R' Tirnauer came from a respected Hungarian family. He was described as someone whose words were as precious as pearls and his thousands of shiurim were delivered with incomparable clarity. R' Tirnauer was a long time Rebbe in Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Kluger in Matersdorf which later became Yeshiva Chasam Sofer. R' Tirnauer moved to Boro Park where he quickly gained a reputation as both a talmid chochom, dealing with many issues of both shalom bayis and other important issues in the Jewish community. He gave a Daf Yomi shiur for many years and while he had been asked numerous times to be honored by various organizations, he was a man of true humility and declined to accept the awards that were offered to him. R' Avrohom Yeshoshua Heshel Friedlander, Rov of the Hivoner Shul in Boro Park and of Maimonides, a talmid of R' Tirnauer's in the early 1970's in Matersdorf, recalled R' Tirnauer as one of the gedolim of our day. "People saw him as one of the voices of our community," R' Friedlander told VIN News in an exclusive interview. "He was warm, he was supportive and he extended himself on behalf of his talmidim. All these years later, the excellent shiurim that he gave are still embedded within me and we maintained a close relationship until his very last days."
