safe riding is very important to your own safety and the safety of others on the road Remember by following these rules you can be a role model for your friends and for younger kids before riding make sure you and your bike are ready to ride protect your brain a properly fitted helmet can save your life riding a bike that is appropriate for your height increases your control contr and can prevent Falls before riding inflate tires properly and check that the brakes work at all times of day and especially at night and in all weather conditions be sure to wear reflective gear such as reflective belts and backpacks and have lights flashing on your bicycle it is very important to remember that just because you can see a driver does not mean that the driver sees you place books and other items in a bike carrier or back backpack ride with two hands on the handlebars unless signaling a turn ride on the right side in the same direction as other vehicles go with the flow not against it look for hazards that may make you lose control such as railroad tracks wet leaves broken glass gravel puddles animals storm drains cracks and potholes if riding in a group the rider in front should yell and point to hazards to alert the the Riders behind him use your ears not just your eyes if you listen to music on your headphones you may not hear important traffic sounds such as honking or Sirens you are the driver of your vehicle on the road learn how to follow all traffic signs signals and Lane markings slow down look for traffic and go only when it's safe just like a car you must yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk ride in a straight line do not dart out from between cars always use hand signals before turning right or left or when stopping ride far enough away from parked cars to avoid the unexpected like doors opening or cars pulling out always watch out near driveways a person backing out of the driveway may not see you always be courteous to pedestrians [Music]
