Lakewood Mayor Menashe Miller Hospitalized after Slipping on Ice in Storm

Good afternoon, Laker residents. I just wanted to give a quick situational awareness of where we stand with the current storm that we're in the midst of. I've been at Lakewood close to 40 years, and I don't recollect or remember having such a severe catastrophic situation with the immense amount of ice that have built up and created black ice all over the town. The National Weather Service had predicted rain for today, which we were very well aware of. Unfortunately, this rain had hit the ground, which had been frozen over the past couple days, and it created a buildup of ice on the roadway and on the walkways. Uh, immediately, Deputy Mayor Arian reached out to the Department of Public Works. Public works swung into action, salting and sanding all the roads in the town, every single road in this town, to have a truck go up and down and salt and sand to prevent catastrophic accidents. As it is, there have been many, many accidents in Lakewood. The police department has been running ragged, as well as all the other emergency services. uh Mayor Likenstein actually uh who's the liazison to emergency services uh was in contact with the chief they've activated the o lake OEM and members of our emergency services such as police department uh LCSW have all gathered at the police department and with a member there in dispatch center over in the watch commander's office to orchestrate the um the functioning of emergency services and response throughout Lakewood triaging the emergencies first and taking care of what needs to be taken care of. Uh we want to thank all those who have been part of the rescue efforts. There have been many numerous accidents, numerous injuries from people all around town. I want to thank them all, all the emergency services, police, EMS, Hatsahim, LCSW of Lakewood, and it's an amazing thing to see them all work together. I just want to thank all those volunteers who have given their time for emergency services to assist Lakewood during this time. I want to apologize to those residents who have been inconvenienced due to roadways that have been shut due to hills. Rest assured, the state had nothing to do with those road closures or traffic. In any case, again, we'd like to thank all those. I've been in constant contact with Department of Public Works and the police department who have been giving me constant updates about where things are holding in town, and I'm confident that they've done a great job. Again, thank you all and keep in mind, stay warm for the next couple days and stay keep in mind the summer will be here in 5 months.
