the pole situation in Lakewood keeps
getting worse year after year um I had
just finished a two-hour meeting with
myself the town manager Tom Henshaw um
Al Burge and tonyi from public works and
committee leaon to Public Works
committee man Kohl's and I've been in
constant contact with Deputy Mayor
Miller committee man lonstein and
committee M deia um we made the decision
to move forward and bring Lakewood to a
new level on Poole repair and and Road
repair in the short term because of what
we have to deal with what we have we're
going to be having a minimum of five
crews out from Public Works to to repair
any pools that are out there right now
unfortunately some of these fixes will
only be temporary and they may come out
but we we're left with no choice because
the situation is very bad um in the very
very near future hopefully within the
week we we will be contracting out with
a company that uses the same material
same equipment as the state it's called
pothole killers and they make their own
permanent fix material so so they'll be
going around town and hopefully within a
week or two we'll be able to cover the
entire town with permanent fixes in the
future we intend to either lease or or
rent these machines we'll have our our
members of Public Works trained in this
equipment so that they can manage them
on their own it'll it'll end up being
less costly for the township and their
appears will be much more permanent and
we'll be able to do it during any season
winter or
summer um some of the other plans plans
that we have for the future that were
discussed with the committee in the past
or or today are uh making new guidelines
for how people who open up roads have to
fix them such as utility companies and
and um um utility companies or Builders
when they open up a road and they repair
it we're going to have much stricter
requirements so that so that the they
don't lead to potholes and there there
won't be any seams in the road when
they're done their repairs we also for
the future because our roads are in such
disrepair and many of them are very old
we're planning to do a multi-million
multi multi-year program where we we'll
be repairing all the old roads in in the
township um I just want to thank
everybody on the committee for for being
together with me on this and for helping
me formulate this plan again Deputy
Mayor Miller Comm Kohl's committee
lonstein and uh committee man deia we're
all together on this and we're all
working very hard to make sure we change
the culture of how liid deals with these
paddles because they keep getting worse
and worse every year and we really want
to put an end to it we understand what
everybody's going through and we're
going through it ourselves and we hope
that the future will be a lot better in
this regard
