welcome to Let's forecasters today we
are joined by Rabbi sholi Klein Cash's
administrator of Dallas kosher thank you
Rabbi Klein for joining us my pleasure
typically let me ask you if I'm a
consumer I go to a hotel
I want to track down the music if I go
to the kitchen are they going to let me
in the door
shouldn't you shouldn't you shouldn't be
into the kitchen it's a dangerous place
so where do I where do I go I'm not
going to go over there about simra and
insult him and ask him if this if his
event is under Oshkosh where am I going
well if it's a again for the DK event is
trained to be front and center he should
be there available he should be seeing
what do you mean by DK event DK Dallas
kosher oh okay so we our train that the
person should be there front and center
when we do events even the pesach
programs there's always a much gift
front and center every time food is
served no matter what there's a mascular
too much always that you can see them
but even at every event the train they
should be there they should people
should see them when they walk around
and check things they should be obvious
they shouldn't be like quietly walking
in the side and kind of say they should
be conspicuous very conspicuous the
guests should see there's a mask
walking around and checking and making
sure everything is kosher when it goes
by the bar I found the GK mush gear I
found him he's standing right next to
the band and I'm ready to ask my
questions what am I asking okay so I
mean and if it's a case before I don't
know who the in the case where you know
you don't know I don't know so you said
yeah you ask questions you say is
then you could ask questions about the
about the event
many times you could even ask them basic
questions about uh
um you know do you know what meat
they're serving tonight or what are they
serving now that's a really interesting
question because
many times doesn't know the answer to
that question and it's not his fault
right
but sometimes the answer to the question
is telling it's like you know something
they're just clueless they'd have no
idea or they don't know anything then
you're worried about the you know in
general so you sometimes just questions
some basic questions sometimes could
show you a lot about his knowledge about
the event but you also ask him uh yeah
ask him what's going on over here uh
what part is kosher is the is the bar
kosher is the wine are the wines my
bushel you know you could ask them basic
questions and sometimes a lack of an
answer or a puzzle dancer could could
make you suspicious and maybe ask for
further questions I guess you could also
ask him if there is an event with a
sushi bar a Liquor Bar uh the cigar
rolling bar or this bar that bar I could
ask coffee bar coffee bar are they all
under his supervision right yes that
would be a good question that's not
right it's not a bad question
um
we recently had had an event where the
client uh contracted with a coffee bar a
coffee company to come to do the coffees
and they didn't tell us
the client never told us it was at a big
large Hotel in Dallas and the hotel a
Mazel right looped Us in last minute oh
by the way there's going to be coffee
bar but coffee is kosher and that's okay
like some sort of a thing they were
gonna have a milkshake he's gonna have a
lattes so it's going to be it was going
to be a horrible really a horrible thing
um so
if if they went to the hotel wouldn't
have called us in the office right we
wouldn't have notified them that there's
to be on the lookout for a coffee bar
and he and if he's not there on time
right he gets there the coffee is all
set up Pete thinks it's the hotels you
know coffee bar I know that's where
things go bad real quick we don't have
the communication but if you even ask
about he may not even notice that
there's a coffee bar or there's a snow
cone machine or a popcorn machine or or
cotton candy or whatever else it might
be there or a meat board or or something
that things that might be there that
were brought in not through the caterer
maybe a party planner might be the
client and maybe so maybe a guest all of
a sudden there's a a meatball sitting on
the on the table and may have not
noticed it but if you say I see these
meat boards and where you could ask
where are things from and he might just
say yes but you know we all we made
ourselves in the commissary and and it's
kosher but you have to ask questions
I guess that's the takeaway right the
takeaway is to ask questions I think to
be an educated consumer anything else as
we conclude the conversation that you
want to add that viewers could really
take and apply yeah we were speaking
about events and venues and catered
catered functions but this is also true
in our restaurant
I had an experience about six months ago
I was at a restaurant and they're good
it was an israeli-style restaurant
Shawarma Pita whatever
um but they I looked at the menu they
also had fried fish and I happen to like
fried fish
okay I shouldn't admit that but I I
really like fried fish I'm like you know
what I had enough Shawarma I'm trying
I'm just gonna want some fried fish I
ordered the fried fish and of course
fish and chips I had an opportunity to
order you know a french fries
which I did and after they came to the
table I'm just like
interesting because it's all very very
flexible play special restaurant and
fried schnitzel and kebabs and scuba and
all the stuff they do into the into the
fryer so I asked the mask yeah is it
okay to have these fries with my fish
so he says yeah sure
and I'm like whoa you didn't you didn't
get my question at all you have no idea
what I asked you
so I tried again I'm like
is there um do they fry these fries in
their fryer or is it like a they have
like a pot or a separate place where
they do the fries she goes no no the
fries are made in the in the in the deep
fryer like he's looking me like I fell
off the moon I'm like yeah this is a
problem
so I said I need you to go back
and find out exactly where these fries
are fried and what else is fried in that
fryer
so he comes back like five minutes later
I'm like this is not good and he says
yes so
um you shouldn't have these french fries
with the fish
I'm like yeah I know that but why didn't
you know that
so um as I left the restaurant I called
the rava boxer I said oh by the way you
know this this
you know is uh doesn't have to
understand that there's an issue so okay
I I don't know like that's something I
should know this is a really big deal it
comes to fish and meat products and
power of items you really have to know
if they're if they're set up properly if
they go ahead and make you know is a
very popular item sure
with an eggplant right you know that
they Grill the eggplant first right they
take a whole egg put it onto the grill
the flesh is a good Grill and they cook
it until it kind of collapses on itself
now you scoop out the egg button and
they add mayonnaise and make Baba
English that's six hour spices right
right if you're eating that way you fish
it's a problem if you eat and get your
Flay shakes right and your fleas
at home and you had some crackers your
Flay cigs right or they have you know um
grilled vegetables right they do that
also they have grilled vegetables if you
want your grilled vegetables with your
fish because you're trying to be healthy
the grilled vegetables are probably six
hours place you could forget not being
able to eat it with your fish you also
flakes these are real issues so many
times
um they just they're just clueless I
mean even though even a good
is only good as its weakest link right
that has to enforce this so you have to
check like if if there's crispy onions
on your on your fish or on your plate or
Baba ganache or grilled vegetables
anything that may have come from a grill
or from a pot you need to be careful
with that and to make sure that that
you're okay
thank you so much Rabbi Klein it's been
a fascinating conversation taking us
behind the scenes kind of pulling away
the curtain and giving us uh a peek into
what you do keep up your wonderful work
and we appreciate your time thank you
