we're just moments away from yom kippur davening the climax of what we've been working up towards from the 40 days of rosh horus ello until this point and obviously the mainstay of of yom kippur and you'll keep our davening in specific is to atone ashamnu baganu i've made mistakes this past year and i'm ready to admit them i'm ready to take upon myself a change a change me this coming year but before we can get there we start off with something called cole nidre the cousin gets up and he he says the beautiful words and what is it all about it's about annoying our vows it's about saying that i made promises this past year that maybe i haven't kept to and i want to know them right now and to me it seems a little anticlimactic i'm ready and the tone is set i'm wearing my tallest my kid's all i've taken off my leather shoes i'm ready to get in front of you hashem and admit everything i've done but before i do that i need to know my vows why is that revenant has a beautiful idea that it goes past just our vows which of course are important but it goes into a concept that we need to enter young kipper with and that is that we think that sometimes things are set in stone and cannot be changed but comes col nidre and even the promises that we've made we cannot know them we can get rid of them and it's not just the things that i say but maybe the way i feel or who i am as a person i feel like i can never be that person who changes from my ways no comes clone is right and says that every person is able to change even the things we feel like are we're locked into for life and that has to be the start of yom kippur we can't come in and say i'm sorry for doing this and sorry for doing that without understanding that those are not things that define us but we have the ability to change we have the ability to set write our own script for this coming year and this is not just a nice idea it's what's written in writes for those who believe in it those who understand that yeah who's coming and he's giving us the opportunity to admit our fault and believe that in the future we could change if there's an old saying that goes that there's two types of jews there's a jew from russia and yum kippur to rosh hashanah the jew who for 10 days is able to act in a certain way and there's beauty to that he's he's able to say i'm going to make this change from russia to him kippur has seriously made chuba but then there's another type of jew that we all need to strive to be and that's the young kipper a personality yom kippur he says that forever he's going to make a change and it's going to last the whole year and then obviously continue afterwards and the only way i think that we can actually be young kipper to rosh hashanah jews is by first and foremost foremost understanding call nigeria understanding that we have an ability to change things even when we feel like they're set in their ways they assume people we should all have this close to have our feelings answered and to be able to make a change not just for a short period of time but for a lifetime [Music]
