one of the most confusing times in my
life was when i first started working
for a law firm law firms are complex
environments they're not companies with
like a hierarchy ceo and down there law
firms there are hundreds of partners
everywhere you don't know which partners
are the more powerful ones and not
powerful ones that can help your career
not help your career
and when i first started working i
started working for this one partner who
i thought was going to take me so to
speak to the career goal line
he was
put together crisp white shirts designer
blue suits
he had a roman numeral after his name
you know the type walked into a room and
owned it always had something smart and
i worked for him all the time whatever
he needed i was there
because i thought he would really take
care of me i relied on him
and in that group there was another
partner a little bit older a little bit
quieter listened more than he spoke
didn't dress as as as cool didn't own
the room i never really took him as
seriously well two months in we're
having this company-wide event and i'm
speaking to a senior partner in a
different group and he says what group
are you and i tell them and he says well
oh that group so-and-so's group and i
said yeah he's in that group but you
know i really work a lot with this guy
he stops and he goes yeah it gets a
little bit of a hothead but that other
guy
yeah the whole fur listens to that guy
and as he's saying that i felt this
angst
because i had relied on this first guy
and i had missed the second guy like i'm
thinking what what was i thinking
like it was a respectful attempt i
listened to him
and i'm trying to go through every
single conversation i ever had with him
to think that i just messed myself up by
relying on the wrong guy
[Music]
in many ways that's what's going on
right now
there's an angst in the world
there's an angst in our minds and that
angst is coming from something with the
angst really is is that for our whole
lives we've relied on the material world
on the physical world
we rely on doctors for our health and
employees for our livelihood and the
government for our security
what we're seeing from this is that
there are some incredible heroes what's
going on in the medical community and
the emergency community they're heroes
beyond belief these are the greatest
people in the world
but they're humans
and they're trying their hardest but
they can only do so much
what we're seeing right now is the
material the world saying we're trying
we're trying we're trying but we're
limited
and all of a sudden we're realizing that
while we can interact with them and work
with them and engage in them
and try our hardest in that world
if we rely on them they can't deliver
for us
right now
what's happening right now is that
there's another world that we've
interacted with the spiritual world with
the creator of the universe and for many
years we've sort of played to that world
right of course we pray but like when
the boss walks and then i get nervous
like of course i ask for help but when
the doctor says you'll be okay then i
feel okay like of course i ask for
security but when everything works out
in the government right that's where my
emotions went of course
what's happening now is this angst
that i believe is taking place
internally which is
i may have relied on the wrong party
because i can only rely
on god
he's the only one that can save us that
can take care of me at this level
[Music]
this isn't just what happens to us now
this is actually happened to the jews in
egypt this is passover
because in egypt the jews realized that
they had to make a choice egypt which is
the epicenter of civilization and
culture and philosophy and medicine
or follow god out into the desert with
nothing
with no food or water and rely on him
the choice that took place in passover
was the shifting of relying on the
physical world to the spiritual world
of learning how to interact with the
physical world without relying on it and
learning how to really rely on god
that x that we feel was the angst the
jews felt
passover isn't hollywood commemorating
anymore
passover's holiday where we're living
right now
and the question that we have to ask
ourselves as we prepare for passover
it's not just a matzah and wine and
another prepare for passover here's the
real preparation
am i gonna spend my time trying to
continuously grasp the fiscal world more
news more news more news more news more
news
or am i going to spend my time now
starting to develop a deeper
relationship in the spiritual world
where is god what does he want of me
what is he asking of me what does he
mean what can i do to interact more to
get deeper to be more spiritual to learn
more about his world
my
heritage
we right now have an opportunity to not
only remember the jews of egypt
to relive the egyptian experience
and to be able to be the same types of
people
that god took out of egypt but today
faith and trust
