rabbi dr abraham j torski relates a powerful story about tefila he said years ago he heard a woman named nora speaking at an al-anon meeting for alcohol spouses of alcohol anonymous those suffering from alcoholism and nora related that she and her husband had a wonderful life but they weren't blessed with children and finally after years of trying they resolved that they weren't going to have a child and they adopted two children imagine her pleasant shock when she found that at the age of 42 that she was pregnant she was sure that this was going to be her rhodes scholar this child was going to illuminate the world this was a gift from god that she and her husband had waited for so long and then finally the child was born she held him in his arms and saw and was told by the doctors that he had down syndrome nora says i was beside myself why why'd you do it to me god i resigned myself that i wouldn't have children would have been better not to have a child why did you do this to me why did you give us a child that's sick a child who's not well and she said that every night she and her husband would cry over the crib and she would say god you could do anything you could make miracles change the child make the change you could do it god she said we cried like that for days and nights and then one day god did the miracle he made the change and he changed us and she said every time after that when i would hold my child in my arms and i would see and think about how much i love this child despite his deficiencies i thought to myself that god can love me with all of my deficiencies that we think sometimes in tofilo to have kavanaugh means to think and to concentrate on how badly we really need what we're asking for hashem please and refu i need it so badly please hashem send the i need it so badly send all the outpourings and peace and loves and everything we need we focus on it so much but he said that's not the real meaning of [Music] you're the ko hole everything you do is for the good we try to connect with hashem that's the ultimate whether we'll get what we're asking for or not we have the ability to withstand and to strengthen our results that in everything that happens hashem is with us in our lives
