I want to welcome the members of I for
joining and I also want to uh welcome a
dear friend DVID scop who unfortunately
took a war for him to come back but
thank God he's here trying to help okay
a
new a new approach a new approach right
now the weekly Torah portion the paraa
of the
shabua who doesn't love the paraa
who doesn't get excited about hearing a
nice sweet insight to share with your
family or your friends it delving into
it it's it's absolutely
Divine I mean that in all uh forms of
that the Torah portion the Torah portion
it's everyone loves
it we're going to do something extra
something that I think can be a game
changer with the weekly Torah
portion completely new approach I hope
you're GNA have something sweet you're
going to share a deep beautiful Insight
you know I I counted I think I've gone
over this these Torah portions for uh
1,500
weeks in the past years of my life and
you never fail to discover something
something
new but what approach are we going to
take now I'm calling it for
now adopting a
Mitzvah okay every par we want every
Torah portion we want to an an adopt a
Mitzvah now why is it important to adopt
a Mitzvah when you're involved with the
Torah paraa right the Torah portion why
is that that's so
important I'm not going to tell you what
I think I'm going to tell you what Romo
breva zal an incredible incredible Torah
scholar and Bob muser Etc listen to what
he said it's it's something you know
right now there's been by the way it's
just something exciting to celebrate
because Jews around the world are
seeking out the Torah and non-jews are
fascinated and interested there's been a
there's been a big
rise uh uh for obvious reasons in in the
interest in the Torah so now people
might think that God gave uh the Torah
to the Jews you know God chose the Jews
to receive the Torah now that's gotten
people some upset that
perception
but the midis teaches us
it wasn't that God chose the Jews for
the Torah the Jews chose to accept the
Torah what happened F those of you know
know this mid very famous but listen to
how it's going to be applied so what
happens Hashem really as we said Judaism
was not meant to be Juda was meant to me
uh Torah and Mankind Hashem and Mankind
that was the design from the beginning
okay and Hashem worked with various um
groups of mankind the first man Etc and
then you know we know that Abraham um
you know stepped forward in a powerful
way but still the ramal says at
har Hashem gave everyone a choice choice
do you want the Torah so the famous
midis says that Hashem went to several
Nations
and you know when you hear a contract
the lawyers here will tell you you're
going to say can you please tell me
what's in the contract and they asked
the Nations asked and they were told
things like adulter is
out no white no white collar
crime no murder you hear that from us no
murder okay they asked what's in the
contract of the Torah and they were told
and they said said no thank you and then
they go to the Jewish people hasem goes
to the Jewish people says want this and
they didn't ask very shocking we we're
very uh uh into law and litigation very
chocking we did not inquire what's in it
we trusted Hashem and what are the
famous words this this could be I used
to say the schma is the national anthem
maybe this is the national anthem
nma we'll do what's ever inside this and
we'll also listen to it we'll learn
about it Etc so we say we're in we'll do
it we're not even asking what we have to
do or what we can't do no white collar
crime no adultery Etc we're not asking
we're in okay so now Cesar brevda that
was 3,300 years ago ago something like
that that was over 3,000 years ago what
if Hashem listen to this thought
experiment what if Hashem went around to
all the nations of the world and asked
them to to accept the Torah the way the
Jews do right now now listen
carefully Hashem says would you like the
following okay I want to actually read
this to you this part okay
here's here's the thing here's a book
that has such deep insight into human
nature it can tell you have a Utopia on
Earth it's spiritual it's
amazing okay okay and you read the book
and guess what there's all these stories
that are foundational fundamental
archetypal in this book and what do you
do you read it every week and then you
finish it and then you cycle back and
you read it again now listen to this on
Shabbat on the Sabbath you put on nice
clothes you go to the synagogue and you
hear someone read it in a powerful voice
and everyone you follow along and listen
to what's being read and then you you
finish that you have a delicious thing
called a kidish and then you go back and
have a beautiful family meal and maybe
you even talk about it at the
table I ask you who would say yes to
that who W say yes to
that what a delightful enriching way to
live if Hashem around in Nations I I
would be shocked that they'll say No in
fact that's one of the Hidden secrets
about Torah Orthodox Judaism it's
delightful and deep and enriching so why
wouldn't they accept
that here comes the boom rabta says is
that how you will relate to the Torah
the Torah
portion the Torah portion it has the two
um what do you call it amudim the Torah
portion is reenacting
Sinai right it's being red so you'll say
Nas what am I supposed to do you're
going to hear it a new and adopt the
Mitzvah that's what it's supposed to be
it's not just supposed to be delicious
inspiring beautiful Torah it's meant to
be applied and
lived this is what we want to do with KM
and the
par it's not me of
course there was an incredible sodic one
of the or original founders of KM kavana
L mitzah Foundation his name was R
humer and he wrote a commentary on the
Torah that shows the
mindset towards the Torah it was very
stic it sounds like some sort of limb or
something sinu it was sintic he called
it evid
l servant of the king in other words
this by way this is the book but this
book he says how would a servant of the
king how would he relate to what's being
told here
Nas he'll do it of course he's going to
Plum the deaths and and enrich his life
but he's gonna do it he's gonna adopt it
all right I hope I made it clear that's
what we want to do with the paraa we
want to adopt the Mitzvah as if we're at
sin which it's self as a Mitzvah daisa
to see yourself today at Sinai so when
you're going through the portion and
when you're hearing it blasted in the sh
you should be saying Nas what can I do
here that's what we're going to do and
I'm going to get us started so bleet big
ble Netter uh we're gonna in the pares
that we cover we're going to do this
I'll tell you let me tell you the format
now of this year that's the new program
are you in the program I hope you are
okay here is the format okay first we'll
discover an AZ a Mitzvah to adopt all
right that's uh that's number one and
we're going to do the Deep beautiful
stuff too we're going to show you how
the oral Torah um just enlivens our
understanding and and shows us what the
Mitzvah is a as as as they say
the the the Kish the Bible without the
oral interpretation is like a body
without a soul relatively speaking it's
lifeless okay so we'll pick a Mitzvah
but then we're going to adopt that
Mitzvah and we're going to learn about
the benefits of that
Mitzvah with no further Ado we are in
parous vat and let's take a look at um
or listen to this okay here's what we're
going to talk
about this is the para where the family
of the Jewish people is being born right
Yakov and his uh two primary wives and
the maid servants are producing children
and you know Yakov is the next in line
right he was chosen to carry on the uh
this incredible uh light into the
Nations so
we get introduced to Leia and listen to
how the Torah describes Leia and if you
want to know where this is um and by the
way if anyone wants uh some of the notes
and things like this rabit wgbr
gmail.com or the WhatsApp group all
right here's what it
says
umanos okay Lavin had two daughters
shame haa
the name of the older daughter was
Leia Katana Rael and the name of the
younger daughter was
Rael now listen this is our key words
right here pay careful attention to
this
Mora the older the older daughter was
named Leia
and her eyes were This Is How They
explain it drippy she had drippy eyes r
on the other hand the younger daughter
she had a beautiful form and a beautiful
appearance
okay
so drippy
eyes the gamorra in babab Basra is very
disturbed with describing this holy
woman as having drippy eyes listen to
what the gamarra says it says the Torah
goes out of its way to not denigrate
animals right so there is animals that
are not Kosher that are impure the Torah
says animals that are not pure not pure
instead of saying animals that are
impure because God forbid to describe an
animal as impure and they're calling
this holy woman The Matriarch one of the
main matriarchs of the Jewish people she
had drippy
eyes that's the gamarra the talman's
problem with this sentence Leia's eyes
were drippy that again the rash bom
Explains It All right so there is a
debate about this but we are going to
hear and this is the I think the central
understanding is it was a praise okay
her eyes were dripping from tears and
let's hear more details about why they
were dripping okay so he's saying RV
says her eyes were dripping literally
and this is not a denigration it's a
praise why because she was sitting uh
she was outdoors and she would hear pass
her by comenting that about this family
right uh uh meaning the family of
Jacob of
[Music]
yob
Rifka which is Isaac's uh wife Rifka has
uh um give me a second Rifka has two
daughters and
B sorry I'm doing this wrong forgive me
there are two sons for Rifka right asav
and Yakov and there are two daughters
for
lvon so it makes sense that the older
one will go to the older one and the
younger one will go to the younger
one so Leia overhears this she's the
older one she says tell me about the
older guy all right
Mama okay so she didn't ask is he
handsome she didn't ask is he wealthy
she didn't ask is he athletic she said
what's his character like that's what
she wanted to know and the answer came
back he's evil and he's an armed
robber what about she asked what about
the younger
son he's a very pure and innocent person
and he's a Torah scholar listen to what
happened
next it says she cried until her
eyelashes fell off I asked Dr setet he
says he can't provide uh whatever
scientific evidence but he does know
that people's eyelashes fall off when
they're in pain and sorrow she cried so
hard harsh hard that her eyelids fell
off that's why she was drippy she called
drippy now that's not all okay it wasn't
just a rumor that she heard listen to
this um riffa and Lavan brother and
sister right and Rifka has the two boys
Lavin has the two young ladies right
they made a deal right they said yes let
the older one ASA go with Leia and the
young one ra with yov so listen what she
did she didn't just cry first of all she
directed her tears to
Hashem and uh to and this is her
prayer
shal shal Russia please may I not fall
in the lot of a person of bad character
a wicked
person and then the the midis says that
prayer was so um powerful it just there
was a decree they signed a contract
brother and sister there it was there
was decree in the heaven Leia goes to
asov she cried till her eye lids fell
you know her eyelashes fell off and she
prayed to please know and the midis
notes what happened she was supposed to
go at him not only did she not fall to
the lot of the one with the poor
character she came first she was the
first one to marry the younger one look
at that
prayer bang right that's the power
of prayer with tears right she prayed
until she cried her eyes out she
literally cried her eyes out and look
what it did all right so the Mitzvah
what Mitzvah is that okay we know prayer
is a Mitzvah we have discussed that
praying in times of trouble is a Mitzvah
daa but there's a there's another um I
want to say another Central Mitzvah here
why is it that crying when you pray to
God you pray to hasem till you're crying
your eyes out why is that so power it
has super it has yeah above nature
Supernatural Powers it can there could
be by by hashem's Providence a decision
is made and it's not a pleasant one boom
it it tears up the decree right the zor
says that the gamarra learns this that
it tears up a final decision a verdict
that's negative by praying till you cry
your eyes out okay why
why why is that so
powerful so let me tell you something
that happened uh on that horrific day of
the massacre uh which you know we know
Torah observant people are we don't have
our radios on things no one expected
that there was any reason to Etc so many
of us here in jerus I was in Jerusalem
here in Jerusalem early in the morning
uh you're hearing sirens and in
Jerusalem thank God it's not on the
edges where there's Sirens there's
evacuations of communities all these
crazy things happening but here it's
almost never in in let's say in about 30
years but prior to this I had only heard
two sirens in Jerusalem so that day
there was about five Sirens so I heard
it when I was in but then I came back
and it you know it's a holiday so I had
my my daughter with her children I my
grandkids
over and the first siren it Disturbed my
granddaughter she's four years old and
uh the other one's too young but it
Disturbed her but the second time the
siren went off I saw her
screaming right and she's running and I
went to try to pick her up but she
blasted right past me and she jumped
into her father's arms and started
crying
absolutely balling this little
four-year-old girl was so heartbreaking
how did she was shaken by this
right when
we the Mitzvah we can do when we pray to
the point that we're crying that's
called Deus Deus that's that's Clos in
it's not closeness yeah close means
you're close but you're not attached de
vacus is your literally stuck stuck it's
like glue you're glued on right now how
can you do that well we know that the
the true God has no form no physical
form it's so how do you do how do you do
that the gar asked this Etc the
ranan and the IAM explain that you have
a soul every one of us has a
soul and when the cry comes from the
soul when you have feelings of
love when you have feelings of um total
dependence on Hashem that's a Mitzvah
called the
Vagas you are experiencing and
fulfilling the Mitzvah to cleave to AEM
your soul can jump if you will there's
no images but can jump in cry and hold
on to Hashem if you will okay that kind
of teila when you're you're not close
you're attached literally to
Hashem that is a game changer that's a
rule breaker a law breaker it changes
everything
okay so that's a perfect leadup okay
wait so let me just review this and then
we're going to put this remember we want
to adopt the Mitzvah we don't want to
let another week of para pass Us by
where we haven't reopt a Mah where we
haven't said n we'll do AEM we'll not
just think of clever insights and
discover and Plum the death of your
beautiful Torah called nishma listen
we're going to do so this week I want
you and we're going to try to do it now
make sure we've got our bases covered I
want us to pray with tears I want tear
field tear
filled um prayers to Hashem right now
for the CLA Israel now let's just we
realize I I know everybody's following
the news so we we know there's a
ceasefire but there's not a ceasefire
till 10:00 a.m. and we don't know what's
going to happen but just let's just
think about it right now uh you know
where I am I heard airplanes airplanes
flying over all the time there are young
uh young men and women in their
20s are in Mortal
danger the the death toll of holy sweet
Jewish kids you see their picture and
you want to you want to cry and I hope
you will 70 70 there's more danger we
have what we have a certain number of
kids are going to get out thank God but
what about all these other people these
hostages these from every age okay
there's plenty to cry about okay now so
I want us to fulfill the Mitzvah okay
we're going to say it to him together
but we're going to um first of all we're
going to fill the Mitzvah when we say to
we are fulfilling the mitah to cry out
to Hashem in times of trouble and we
realize because we realize hasem is the
the address and we realize that we're
all collectively responsible if we were
on our game fully this wouldn't be
happening okay that's the main what we
usually do but let's adopt this mitah
let's have drippy eyes now I know that's
uh not easy on command okay you know
some people um cry more more easily okay
and some people it's more difficult all
right um but I want to give us like a a
little bit of time uh to think about um
you know to put ourselves in a state
where we can cry all right but
additionally there's U parrot can you um
please put up that picture sure I want
to there's certain people I want to pray
for in particular want us to pray for
okay
parrots yeah that's coming up okay let
me explain this picture uh I think it
was AA Torah um came up with the soldier
for Soldier campaign where um uh if uh
that you Vol those Torah Scholars who
it's says the Torah protects and it
rescues they they have are matched with
a soldier so I was um matched with the
second one on the list Avatar saduk Ben
avishag and his uh sister put his name
on there and reached out and you know
and when when the war first started and
he was being called in you know she made
contact and I got his name but about a
week and a half ago
uh she contacted me and she said they're
going into uh Gaza tonight this is about
a week and a half ago and can you please
um up the game and also can you pray for
his whole unit so I don't know if you
take a look at these boys uh I mean yeah
thank you parents these are just they
look like a you know again i' I
explained to some people in the United
States you know I know I have friends
who's who's uh sons are you know uh
right on the border of Lebanon Etc it's
just very not a simple situation okay so
uh here's what I suggest we're going to
take um a couple minutes uh I find that
when I say theu prayer uh which we'll
say at the end which says and but oh and
I remind people that if you want one of
these uh graphic to hilm cards that has
uh a good English translation and prayer
on it please either at Rabbi gmail.com
or Whatsapp group okay but what I um
what I want us to do is this is I find
when I say uh
ban uh SAR b bashia i I can say the
words you know it says our brothers all
of Bas Israel or brothers and sister who
are put in trouble or in captivity when
I say captivity my eyes always tear up
um but uh I'm sure everybody that's
listening and Y and all around the world
you've probably seen some pictures that
will break your heart you probably heard
things that you break your heart or you
can think about the parents who are just
who are informed that their child is no
longer in this world um Etc there's so
much to cry about okay and what's
beautiful right now is we're crying for
for the Jewish people which is LMA and
rash says that's so powerful okay so uh
I'm going to take a little time to get
myself into a state and you to and have
in mind to M the Mitzvah again of
praying theem in times of trouble and
the Mitzvah of of um de vacus to pour
our H heart out and um and shed tears um
to our ABA in the
Shayan okay right just so you want to
take a
second I'm G put that picture up too you
Canen
okay
[Music]
say
is
okay uh that's not the easiest
mitzah all right
any questions or
comments thank you you're welcome um
that make a comment please sh welcome
back thank you you know there's been so
much uh media so many posts and chat
groups and things like that I just want
to sh you know in terms of connecting to
the
pain I'm crying out to Hashem
one thing that really uh really got me
was that there was a very detailed
interview of a father who survived I
think 12 hours in a shelter on October
7th he his daughter his wife and his son
and
um
unfortunately his wife was shot by a
terrorist and uh was
killed and uh
his son tried to force the dresser
against the door to prevent the
terrorist from coming in the terrorist
shot through the door and uh the uh the
force of the gun uh destroyed the son's
hand and he was bleeding
profusely and
um as time went
by the sun was getting weaker and
weaker and the son said ABA ABA I know
I'm not going to make it and the father
kept on trying to encourage him
encourage him and the father who was
himself shot in the hospital when he was
telling the story said that the son made
one request the son loved surfing he was
a surfer he was 15 years old and he's a
surfer and what he said was ABA
please bury me with my
surfboard and when I heard that it was
just like too much
you know you just think about and I
didn't really understand like why why
did that get to me so much and I guess
you know when you think about it for me
anyway you know that's so much life so
much hope so much Youth and
enthusiasm and in that moment still
clinging to this to the joy of life and
then saying to you know like the
unbelievable moment where he has to
think about burying himself and then he
wants it to be with his surfboard it was
just you know so powerful and and when I
think about that it really
um it allows me to grieve and connect to
the pain of this experience and I'm sure
there's a thousand stories like that in
so many different ways that I just want
to share that because it really affected
me and perhaps it can also be a way for
other people to really connect to the
pain and connect to the Mitzvah of
crying out to
beautiful unfortunately yeah that's kind
of an
unforgettable uh image I don't think
easily forget that wow yeah wow so uh I
just encourage people to there's still
there's time before the ceasefire and I
we should really uh do whatever we can
uh um uh um right now all our efforts
are just incredibly important you know
all right and uh um or also maybe we'll
we can forward this to whoever wants
these names uh I would be thrilled to
have your you you're being added on to
praying for them I I I I read off their
names before learning and teaching so
alrighty Shem should have mercy on us
yes
