okay
welcome everybody to uh alcavana limits
us here on uh Traverse so we're doing
something a little bit different uh this
evening you've probably seen the flyer
which says uh cavana conversation so
we're piloting something a little bit
different to that we will have some q a
with the rabbi regarding Shabbos so uh I
want to welcome our regulars who are
attending love and those who are
watching the recording those from
ubernet and just a very brief intro on
uh Rabbi weigbak for those of you who
haven't had the privilege to hear him
speak before don't know about him about
wig Brat's been teaching Torah in
eurusha line for around 20 years and was
in
Yeshiva Surah and
um he set up the cavana Le misus
foundation around four years ago which
really deals with or teaches and
inspires Jews who are already doing
Mitzvahs how to infuse those Mitzvahs
with more meaning and more depth and
um there's a hollowed resource on the
website
cavanalamitzwers.com which you should
check out and uh you know also you can
email any questions throughout my
webbrite gmail.com so
um tonight we're
going to hear from Rabbi workbrite about
some of the cavanas to do with Shabbat
so
um Rabbi if you want to turn on your
microphone and your camera will make a
start
thank you parrots
let me ask you a question
is having kavana for Mitzvahs easy
or difficult
let's explain for the newcomers
meaning before you do a mitzvah
to take a few seconds and have in mind
that the reason you're doing what you're
doing is because Hashem commanded you
because to do a Mitzvah okay
so we can say it's easy in the sense
that it's just a few seconds thought
but we can say it's difficult
because it's not easy to wedge something
new into your Consciousness that's not
easy at all for example right now
we're all learning Torah
and
it's not our habit
oftentimes to stop and say oh I turned
on this the class right now or I'm
watching a class on YouTube let me have
in mind to fulfill the Mitzvah of
learning Torah as Hashem commands easy
or difficult
the obvious answer is both
and but I want to say a special reason
why it's difficult okay as I said you
know everyone's busy we've discussed
this everyone's rushed
so to wedge something new into your
Consciousness is indeed not easy
but I want to say a very deep reason why
not I think there's a spiritual reason
because Mitzvahs can turn into just
activities that you're accustomed to
doing
and the biggest loss with that is you
forget that misses are meant to forge a
relationship with the one you're doing
them for with with Hashem to bond with
Hashem that's the purpose
so that's why it's not going to be easy
because Hashem wants you to have
complete Free Will spiritually and
decide am I going to connect or not so
easy few seconds difficult yes you have
to show us and you really want the
relationship
that's my setup now for us to discuss
shibuos
so Rabbi and yoshirim
um we always hear about Miss was that we
weren't even aware of at least I speak
for myself so what uh what surprises
have you got us uh tonight about uh
shavors
very good parents very good so I do have
a couple minutes up my sleeve or things
that you might not be aware to have
cabona for et cetera I have some things
up the sleeve however let's start with
mitzvah's that everyone is aware of
about shabuos okay let's lay them down
and then I'll reveal the surprises okay
and I know most of the listeners know
that it's a Yom toad that means that you
are prohibited from doing Malacca work
uh labor that that is
um not involved with Oklahoma fish with
eating needs okay so that means that
just like on Shabbos you wouldn't dare
think of flicking on and off the light
right you wouldn't get in your car you
wouldn't turn on your device Etc you
wouldn't think of that
the same thing with the onto you won't
think of it and you won't do it
but what we want to make sure is that
you have kavana that I'm not flicking on
the light merely because I know this or
I'm used to not doing that on YouTube
but because Shin you commanded me in
other words connect relation wedge that
in there okay so there's the the
prohibition of Malacca that one I think
most people know
another thing is another classic is
um if you study the laws of yonto or
Regal has a Mitzvah called this
which means the eating drinking and
being Merry and wearing nice clothes is
a Mitzvah of rejoicing in the hog okay
those are two Classics of yomtop of
course there's darwining etc etc all
right so and by the way when you break
it down like any experience but
especially experience filled with
spiritual out in kadusha
there's a lot more Mitzvahs okay now if
you're interested in a full list so you
can fully activate on yongtok
um we're putting out a poster next week
and like an infogram and just contact me
by WhatsApp or email but now let's go to
the surprise Mitzvahs okay
so the first one is
that shavuos is for you
what does that mean in other words
all the pleasurable activities on this
yomtope like eating and drinking and
having a nice glass of wine or a
delicious food or challah all of those
things they are visible
but there's a commandment a Mitzvah that
says a series
and the other ones but we're focused on
chavoos is a time to stop and spend time
with Hashem and it says for you it
meaning you and me as opposed to Shin
now let me broaden that
the gemara uh imsakim brings this the
the Shabbos it says and and by other Yom
tamim it says
which is talking about stopping and
having a day of intimacy and pleasure
with Hashem okay but then it says like I
said
so the way they explain it is there's
different uh views one view is you could
in in some holidays you could spend the
entire hug for a Shen Shabbos is foreign
I apologize okay there are holidays that
are you can you have your choice you can
either have portion and have for you or
all for a shin we're all for you that
that's one of the views in the gemara
but Gomorrah makes something clear okay
first of all shavuas for Hashem means
the davening
the learning Torah you hear any of the
of Otis Ascend that we do is a Mitzi
called a series
but the gemara says there are a few
other ones and I don't want to go into
the whole thing right now
but shavuos must also be for us shurus
is for you that's a absolute deal
breaker okay so well look we're gonna
eat and drink and we're going to visit
but
on on shabbu's it is imperative that you
eat drink and be merry and the question
is why okay because as uh parrots
mentioned the goal here is to be more
conscious and connected and relating to
Shin but also to get more meaning out of
what we're doing
so it when we understand why is for us
to Lewis is for you you'll get a lot of
meaning okay
the reason it explains Rashi that you
must eat and drink you can't spend the
whole day learning and enroll wouldn't
that be great I mean after all the Torah
was given why not to spend a day
dedicated to learning tashem have a
little a little water and Excel if you
open the can before Chavez why not do
that before schools so the answer is
that this is
the day we were given
613 root Commandments which branch into
thousand others we were given a
humongous yoke called the Yoke of Torah
was
we have an opportunity to show Hashem
how we relate to all of this obligation
the big yoke of Torah so when we eat
drink and celebrate we're saying Hashem
I look at the Torah as such a gift
it's not a burden God forbid it's a gift
and that's why you see I'm so happy
today I'm thrilled on having wine of it
I'm celebrating that I was given all
this obligation
because it says you know a person is a
greater person I've never ending chances
to bond and come and Elevate myself
because when you're commanded it's a
greater act no one likes to be told what
to do no one right so when we are told
what to do by Shan and say Shen thank
you I know you'll love us and it's for
us
we're giving Hashem we're we're sending
a powerful message that's the that's the
meaning of shavuas is for you and me and
us while Israel okay so that's up my
sleeve
the the important thing is now that I
told you that
remember you need to try to wedge that
into your Consciousness and also don't
forget that when you're dominating and
learning not only are you doing the
mixes of dominating and learning and
another thing on that long poster is
called microcodish which is a special
Mitzvah as well that one you'll see on
the poster I'm not going to focus on
that one but when you're dodging and
learning don't forget that Hashem I'm
shavuas is for you also hashemous is for
Hashem so have that in mind while you're
learning learning all night domining
waking up for Korea satara being
conscious that's question so those are
two important new midterms if you will
new Mitzvahs they're mentioned but we're
drawing uh important light to them okay
so that's the first one parrots I have
one more up my sleeve uh okay oh yeah I
think I have one more up my sleeve let
me just uh let me share that okay yes
yes Rabbi Michael Hollow there's a bunch
there are a bunch of misses and if you
if
um we're gonna talk about that at the
end of this year but what I want to
mention also is is the following idea
that in a certain sense I I hope your
new comprehension will make it fresh and
new to you
um you know what actually parents didn't
you have a question about that
um yeah so you remember you asked me
this go ahead
yeah I think I think this is what you
were gonna uh speak we have a lot of um
you know tourism droches about Shabbos
being this this time for Kabbalah Satora
specifically and the Omer building up
towards that so maybe you can tell us a
little bit about more about the source
of that idea
okay right Kabbalah satara so I'm sure
you've heard lots of
um Musser talks or you know inspiring
things that we're we're counting the
Omer we're building our our Mido so
we'll be ready to macabo the Torah on
very famous so for years I thought oh
that's you know it's inspiring in this
net but I didn't know really what does
that mean first of all one thing to
think about and I don't want to focus on
but just I want to mention it is we're
supposed to
um relate to the Torah as being given to
us when
today right we're always supposed to
hear the the the boss cold coming out of
Sinai it's supposed to be a daily thing
so what does exactly mean that where
macabo the Torah on Shabbos and what's
the significance of it okay
it's big it's a Gamora your xiaomi the
gamaria show me actually says this this
isn't like from
um some drush or some later Authority
mentioning something it's in the gamar
itself
and the gamaria shami observes something
very interesting when it's talking about
the
earring the the goats uh that are
brought
in honor of the moadim and all the
holidays they're they're serum and and
they're called sire hatas their sin
offerings because not only rosh hodesh
and Yom Kippur are times that we get a
capara but every every
um yonto Borrego there's Siri hatas
which gives us a capara okay but if you
look carefully like the gomaria shami
did if you look carefully in the Torah
so every single other yonto it says
mentions the hatas
but in Shibu as it says you'll bring and
they're the exact same serum but it
doesn't mention sin
why not so I'm quoting the gamaria
xiaomi for you it says if you macabo the
Torah on Shabbos
I will consider it as if you never
sinned do you hear that is that is that
not a promise sound familiar sound like
Yom Kippur Yom Kippur is one of the
happiest days of the year because our
sins are forgiven and guess what bizarre
says the tikoni Zara says that
is happier why because you know the the
chuba on Yom Kippur is really coming
from Fear of the final verdict whereas
shabuos it's by macabo the Torah it's a
joy as we said shibuous is for us we
have to show that we know that right so
when you macabo the Torah anew anchovus
Queen slate
that's big right it's not just like
abort it's a big deal so obviously what
you're going to want to know is how do
you makeable Torah and when do we
makeable the Torah on
so I saw in the house in a mowing
he pointed out that it it appears that
the icker time for everyone to macabo
the Torah anchovius is in the morning
Korea satura when they're saying when
they're reciting the whole uh experience
of giving the Torah and the Ten
Commandments right that's when you
should you should declare in your heart
and in your mind Hashem first of all
there's the Mitzvah this is on the
infogram of remembering the mom at
harsinai that's one thing but what I
want to talk about is that the Kabbalah
right so you should have in mind the
Shem I'm a Kabul the Torah again or now
right now why would it lead to such a
profound
um thing that's even happier than Yom
Kippur and cleaning the Slate so just
quickly
it means you really accept the Torah
knowing what it entails okay
brings When Rachel uh decided to accept
the Torah it says he couldn't he was he
was a like a robber originally he's
strong man he couldn't get out of the
water he was so weak why did the Torah
make him so weak was it's a mystical
thing that it weakens you so he explains
that it's more than that it's not just a
mystical idea
the Torah saps your strength when you
take seriously the responsibility to do
schneid microwave to learn uh to fulfill
all the Mitzvahs the study parts of the
Torah that are harder for you there's if
the more seriously you take it the more
sincere your acceptance is you hear this
and if you're if you say look you know I
dropped the ball in reviewing uh gamara
I I or a woman I I dropped the ball I
don't always study the laws that pertain
to my Mitzvahs or etc etc or the part
everybody knows where maybe their
commitment wasn't upheld fully
so that's what you have to do when you
hear it before you before you get there
before we get to the Korea Saturn on
Shabu this morning
you have to think ahead of time think
before sugar centers
where do I need to strengthen my
commitment because commitment is
expressed in action so I just want to
make it that it's not just like a magic
formula that we say I accept the tauren
we're Clean Slate okay also if you know
you have sins you should do true
beforehand and then you have a clean
slate okay all right Paris does does
that make it clear yeah it does thank
you thank you
um so just one one uh final point for me
which is just I guess we can end this
one or go to a very practical note so we
heard a lot about these Mitzvahs
um so what suggestions do you have how
can we how can we hold on to this when
the time of uh Chevrolets next week
okay
um that's a that's a question that shows
you care and and I know the people at
least that are online here uh most of
them that if you carry wanna know I as I
always say I don't want this these
classes to
um just be entertaining a TV show as we
as we joke but I want you to wedge them
into your Consciousness and as I opened
with it's not easy to remember right
it's not easy to integrate so I want to
discuss uh I had a thank God
opened my mind to something that I've
asked a lot of people and I haven't
gotten an answer for
is if you look in the uh uh
um
sidorim of swardon and also the new
spard a lot of times you'll see hear the
falling phrase
[Music]
all right so if you translate that Hine
behold I'm here we'll discuss that in a
second
um but then I'm muhan and mizuman
so most people
um find including me found it hard
what's the difference between being
muhan and mizuman they both seem to be a
word I'm prepared like behold Hashem I'm
prepared to do your will okay so what's
the difference between being muhan and
mizuman
now we have the language of uh mizuman
right with zimmun right we have a zimun
and we have
um if you get an invitation to a wedding
it's a has Mana Okay so
there's the language of time is there
okay
now muhan
is clearly a word for Preparation let's
let's think about uh the laws of Shabbos
if someone does preparation for mozi
Shabbos that's called
it's preparation before the event comes
so I found that in English so I would
like to translate it like this and this
can be very helpful parrots and to all
of you how to uh um succeed on Shabbos
okay and literally transform your life
now and your eternity
so muhan means prepared mizuman means
ready
now what's the difference between being
prepared versus ready okay so the the
answer is that
muhan preparation is something you need
to do beforehand right so there's
prepared
ready is you're at the starting blocks
you hear the gun and you're ready to go
you're focused so in KLM in Covina
misses terms you need to do two things
you need to prepare the information you
need ahead of time before shaboos comes
in okay and right that's the first thing
so like I said I mentioned this infogram
you have to start uh when we put it out
you have to review it you have to be
prepared for the Mitzvah opportunities
that are going to come
and then when they come you have to be
zoom on you have to be ready right you
have to be focused and ready your notes
you have to be present in the presence
of Hashem and the midst of opportunity
and and we're and in this infogram we
break it you know before show us there
are these Mitzvahs the night the day Etc
okay so so what I would suggest is that
you recognize if I want to be fabulously
bonded to a college for who on the
incredible uh hog of schwaros I need to
be prepared so prepare before and be
aware of the misses that are going to
prevent present themselves and then be
mizuman be alert and focused and pause
before you act and insert the Cabana now
um I asked uh parrots that Dr Setzer uh
did I asked him he sent me his standard
we talked last last time we met we
talked about spirosa Omer
and I mentioned there's actually five
Mitzvahs there's there's the counting
the sphera and there's three remember I
mentioned a lot of Mitzvahs so I you
know I got a lot of feedback they said
wow that's something but you know how do
you make sure you're prepared and ready
so can parents can you show us what Dr
Setzer sent
okay yeah let's see all right is that's
Dr setzer's uh standard in uh I think
the maharsha show right so you see he
has our spirit Omer poster yeah if you
have excellent there we go spirus uh
Omer five misses in 25 seconds the
misfit to count the Omer days in uh
weeks and and then uh three mixes of
remembering okay and then finally the
midst of the vacas which involves
anytime we're thinking uh about Hashem
so that's a suggestion when you get this
in Korea and by the way those who are
listening on YouTube ever
um my my email is Rabbi webbrite
gmail.com you can contact that way or if
you're on the WhatsApp group and we'll
make sure you get one of these but this
is a great way to do it okay so there's
much more to speak about but let's just
um close by uh reminding ourselves
you're not just eating you're not just
rejoicing you're conveying at your
feelings to Hashem
if you do this consciously just keep in
mind when I eat on Shabbos when I drink
when I celebrate on shoes when I sing
right I want him to see wow
he really loves having the Torah she
really loves having the tarek that's
it's so romantic Shabbos is for us so we
can show him how we feel about receiving
the turret that's a biggie and of course
that mind she was is for Hashem when
you're doing those uh activities right
so don't forget that and I really
encourage you to do some preparation by
doing some Hesh bonan effus some
spiritual reflection How can I
strengthen my commitment to the Torah
and then do whatever you can to be awake
after staying up all night okay I think
that covers it
yes thank you you're very welcome all
right if anyone has any questions now uh
feel free
hello
um uh so I I wonder if I'm getting
something wrong because you know I find
that
in a number of the major
moadeem opportunities to connect and you
know appointed times they seem to be set
up in a way where we're we're physically
exhausted
uh you know I mean just let's go we can
go through like okay start with pesach
you spent days cleaning you know they're
usually a mad rush before but because
cremates then you know you're up early
and then you're preparing for the Seder
and you get to the Seder and and you
know and then you're up and you have
four cups of wine and then you got to go
to shul the next morning and then you
know right uh
before you know Rosh Hashanah you're up
super early and then you're not supposed
to sleep on Rosh Hashanah right now here
right all right and then so and then the
second you know and and then Shibu was
you know you're supposed to be at the
peak of your of your Consciousness and
intentionality and you've been up all
night right and uh uh sometimes filled
with caffeine and you're dropping from
the caffeine and cheesecake and all that
stuff right
um and I'm not even talking about not
yet okay I'm not even I'm not even
talking about you know the long summer
fast days we'll leave that for another
time but but but but but but but you
know and yet so so it's it seems to be
set up in a way like you know like
you're you're physically exhausted right
and and let's just talk about shavuas so
um the only thing I can think of the
only turrets I have to that is that
um
I think about some of the most
satisfying movements in let's say you
know a professional life and things like
that right we're
you've
you've not just invested yourself
completely but just sort of you've
thrown yourself into something you
almost burn yourself to the ground in
terms of your investment into the
into the Endeavor and then if you
achieve your goal or at least feel like
you fulfilled your mission even though
you're exhausted
you gave yourself to it
you know you know you found yours you
know you're there you're really present
and maybe that's how why the system is
designed and our our sages designed it
this way to demand our effort to demand
our personal
sacrifice if you will but certainly
personal input but it is something that
I just wonder you know obviously if you
prepare and you're super organized you
have time for sleep you have time for
everything you know but you know I'm not
one of those people and so I find myself
physically challenged on these great
yamtoven and I just wonder if I'm
getting something wrong
all right fantastic uh question
fantastic answer I think that is I mean
um mysterious nephish uh involves you
know that's a word for sacrifice you
know the more you sacrifice it I'll just
tell you a couple Rabbit Green uh
stories but one I remember hearing from
zahavi Green he pointed out that you
know let's say someone's a young lawyer
and they have no reputation and they're
working hours and hours to make and they
they're so personal
I was but the their salary is not like
it won't blow you away but he gives
basically it hurts him almost to spend
the money on a a a
um let's say a ring for his wife okay it
really hurts now then he lands uh major
cases and intends to become a major
donor of KLM and that at that time he
can actually give his wife a car or
something like you know the hope the
Hope Diamond or something whatever it's
called so
most of the time that that
um gift that came from sacrifice is the
most touching so it really shows our
love for Hashem and and so that which I
feel was what you were heading is
heading for and as Rabbi green that was
Rabbi Rabbi shim and green said he used
to tell us when Ella would start
says I want you to learn so hard and and
delve so deep and go so far that you if
you will you just fall into hashem's
Loving Hands on Yom Kippur you collapse
into if you will Hashem has no you know
by but you collapse into his hands right
so now and now it's so nothing's
coincidence uh 15 minutes before this
year started I you know I look at I I
look at a lot of um videos that are
helped to help they Intel people improve
their productivity and you know develop
personal development obviously because
that's what we want to do with Torah so
I just heard about before burner Theory
okay anyone heard the four burners
Theory so if you imagine an old-time
oven and it has four places like Akira
if you were before if four burners and
if you were to
um evidently if you turn turn every
burner up at the same time uh the the
strength of any one of those burners is
low okay and it works proportionally
basically if you shut off all three
other free then you have a real one of
them's really burning so the the author
of this said there's we have okay I have
to say this carefully this will be both
um you have work
family right this is and this was from a
non-jewish perspective work family
um work Family Health work family health
and there was a fourth burner
um friends friends okay so they said
look you know everybody would love
everyone fantasizes to be out
distinguished in their work
the ultimate family man or woman
have great friends and spend time with
them
and uh be healthy so they said wake up
you can't do that that's putting four
burners on low burn right so if you want
to excel at one of these
uh it really Excel then it has to be one
burner or one burner with a little bit
you know so I'm not going to tell
anybody you know how to work this out
but you get the point so I I would say
like this
um just adding it that in the Moa deem
in these times they're not all the time
they're sometimes right so I think
you're supposed to turn that burner up
the the
Hashem the forest Shen burner yeah and
really really that and that
means maybe less time with friends you
know
et cetera look we take off of work you
know Haman was
um denigrating the Jews he said they're
always having a holiday when are they
working you know right so we we turn
down the work burner we should turn on
the friend burner you see I'm not saying
you turn down the family burner okay but
you hear yeah sometimes you have to turn
that burner up and it's it's a point
times one more okay let me throw one
more uh of your uh uh tired or whatever
opportunities in the burner we'll finish
with this okay I mean with your question
is the Vilma going well here's one that
you didn't mention okay
does anyone know the the most incredible
time of spiritual opportunity on Purim
when is the peak of your chance to head
to Vegas to Hashem and you know it says
uh you know
um ask and Hashem will give to you right
yeah okay when is it when the out
of your mind in the suda repentance says
in your you know you're lucky or not
vomiting you know and that's the time
what's going on here is this a
conspiracy
yes says the Quran
the bigger the time the bigger the Yates
are hard so it is not a coincidence that
you know even well do you think that the
HR only works with um uh like uh we call
it going to to the red light district
that's the only place he pins it he'll
he'll work with the the holy men hug the
stay up all night you know
Michael what's it called that thing that
rhc says very quickly you know yeah
right so he's saying it's like EO Hashem
says he hopes very righteous yeah I know
he's very righteous but what if I test
him on the Sutton the satin says this
and what if I test let's see right so
I'd like to say that you know the Yates
and horror is it he's he's a law he's
showing up at shibules at the appointed
times and he it's going to be difficult
also because of him and therefore you
have to be cunning right you have to
it's heroic to rest sometimes it's
monish heroic you know be a hero and
sleep before sugarloafs but also if
you're tired you just whatever you do
just
slap your face to it cold water ice
water I don't know what I don't know if
we could do ice work you hear so I would
say there's a holy shame saying show me
you love me turn up the burner and he's
also the it's our same okay let's see Mr
big shot you love Hashem Mrs Big Shot
you love Hashem let's see you do it when
you're tired okay that would be my
suggestion beautiful thank you so much
WoW
okay great thank you okay very good all
right everybody
um be on the lookout or like I said or
text me if you um or email me if you'd
like that infogrand so you'll be uh
[Music]
oh
