biblical wisdom for a healthy
relationship with work look in the
Psalms of King David he says it in Psalm
128 verse
two you'll benefit from the toil of your
hands and you'll be happy fortunate and
prosper the simple meaning of this verse
means that we don't want handouts that
really human nature is we have a certain
sense of self-respect that we want to
earn our own keep and that's true but
there's a deeper meaning to this verse
as well which holds a secret to how to
have a healthy relationship with your
means of earning a living and that
is the toil of your hands it doesn't
mean that we all have to literally work
with our hands and be manual laborers
and be in the trades although that's
certainly a very Noble way to make a
living what it does mean is your hands
as opposed to your mind and your heart
we are meant to reserve our most refined
organs our minds and our hearts for
Spiritual Pursuits for pondering the
great my iies of the Oneness of it all
that's where our mind and heart should
be directed to studying God's word to
prayer and meditation and when we go to
make a living we should do it with the
external functions in other words as if
it were just the hands when you go to
work most of us today we do use our
minds we sit in front of a computer most
of us that's how we make a living but
the point is don't bring it home with
you so that your mind is on your work
and that you're pondering and
contemplating how to do more more work
to make more money that's not healthy
our sustenance comes from God we show up
and we go to work as a way of sort of
holding out a cup so to speak to receive
the flow of blessing but we don't
actually make more money by putting our
minds and our hearts into making a
living just show up do your due
diligence do an honest day's work be
responsible put in a day's work but
don't put your deepest parts of yourself
your mind and your heart Reserve that
for what is uniquely human which is your
spirituality in your relationship with
God
