Ki Savo - 7th Portion

Join me as we learn Humash for the seventh Torah reading for Shabbos in Parshas Ki Savo. Chapter 29, verse 1. Yesterday we learned about the terrible consequences and curses that were going to happen to the Jewish people should they not follow the the commandment of God. 98 different curses. And then also Moshe reminds them of the first 49 that were mentioned in the book of Leviticus as well. The Jewish people are frightened, doubting if they can ever endure such suffering. And therefore Moshe gives them reassurances of what's going to happen as they enter into the land of Israel. Vayikra Moshe kol Yisrael Moshe called the Jewish people and he tells them you have seen all the all the something in them everything that God did before your eyes in the land of Egypt and all the servants and all this entire land. Hamasa hagdolos the great journeys, the try the great trials. Asher einacha that your own eyes saw the great signs, hamoisim the great miracles, great marvels, hagdolim the great ones that were done. Verse 3. That means all even though you saw all of them, but you still could not appreciate them until today. Why does it mean until that day? What happened that day? So, Rashi says, I heard that on that day was the day that Moshe gave the people of Levi the Torah. As we're going to going to see in chapter 31 that it says all the Jewish people came in front of Moshe and said, "Moshe Rabbeinu, Moshe, our teacher, why are you only giving the tribe of Levi a Torah? We were also standing by Mount Sinai." We received the Torah that was given to us. Why are you giving the Torah the only the Torah to the people of Levi? That means why should they be the only ones that rule upon us? They were alone and they were alone. They're going to tell us today or later time wasn't given to you. Only to the tribe of Levi. Moshe was so excited to hear the Jewish people ask for the Torah. Therefore, he says that's why he continues to say today you became a nation. Now today I see the guys are ready. You appreciate, you're connected to what God wants. Verse four. I brought you through and I walked you I led you through the desert for 40 I led you through the desert for 40 years. They evolve the similar sequence. Your garments did not wear out from you nor did your shoes wear out from being worn on your feet. Verse five, bread you did not eat and beer you did not drink. Wine or old wine you did not drink. That you should know that I am God your God. Verse six, Then came to this place. This area of the Jordan River. What does it mean that God didn't give you He's telling them that the way a person never gets to fully fully appreciate or understand the teachings of the intellect and the teachings of his teacher until 40 years. And therefore therefore God did not judge you and wasn't strict with you and didn't punish you until today. But from here onward we are now 40 years since the Torah was given.
