I'm in a very interesting situation
right now
having run this seminar for the last 10
11 years and spoken for a number of
years as the last slot right hey I'll
tell you it's normally a very short
slots and it's normally shorter than it
usually is and it aims to be because
everyone overruns right I think this is
the first time you've ever actually hit
run on share do more or less throughout
and reach this stage I'm also an
interesting situation because what I
normally do is ask an orange shoot on
some handymen a saying said what are you
going to speak at this Tara seminar I
said well I have a number of different
options but really what I'm going to do
is I'm going to pair a number of
different modules I'm gonna see what
people talk about throughout the day and
then I'll strike off different things
that are covered by different speakers
and we'll see what comes together at the
end so now we'll see what comes together
in the end wide like store I'd like to
talk about entirely different facet of
curve to anything we've heard about
today and this may be a strange exercise
to do but it's a fast theme we'll do it
anyway you know everyone has in their
minds sometimes they have an image that
helps them relax right so if you close
your eyes and you think about it one of
the images that forever reasons I'm from
Scotland I went through University in
Scotland just it is one of these things
that is a curious image it's like if you
can picture if you can visualize a pint
of Guinness
being pour it and slowly settling right
if you can't visualize a pint of
Guinness settling it's something you
should on your list of things to do
before your next birthday right just
watch it right when you pour any glass
any drink right what normally happens
arguing a bottle of pixie max whatever
happens to be I pour it to one of these
plastic cups of froth soaked right take
any gas drink gas burst so interacts
with the surfaces at the side that frost
those with a cup you pour a paint the
Guinness and you watch it something
incredible happens if you look at it
right your patreon I spray it's nice
dark heavy stout beer with a white
creamy head what happens is the bubbles
don't from the outside
so you've got this paint of beer that's
pouring and you see the head frothing up
but the bubbles are going down they're
safe now we all know that's not the way
bubbles cool and liquidy right when you
pour your drinks bubbles go up so why
did bubbles cook diamond on the side or
paint the Guinness
some people actually took this to a very
serious
investigation and spent substantial
amounts of money and time researching it
and I guess this is the reason why there
is physics
to find out what was happening here and
actually isn't just that my goodness it
happens in other liquids as well it's
just that other liquids it doesn't it
happen so fast you don't see it and
again it's the same process is slow and
the contrast of colors makes it visible
what happens is just like every other
drink the bubbles go up the bubbles go
up in the middle of the drink it comes
up and I call it gets pushed to the side
and then it comes into contact with the
surface of the glass on the ages in the
rim and it gets dragged down by the
surface tension and so you can see the
lines of the bubbles being dragged down
now normally when I give this model I
say you know this the muscle is a very
obvious Marshall for kirov if you're
connected to the source of you're
connected to Torah you're always going
up you're pushing forward if you're
going out there and care if you come
into contact with the outside world thus
symbolize office about the edges of the
glass and you get there's the potential
to get dragged down at the site I like
to use the names on a slightly different
names all for this Marshall TV
we've heard about TV the intellectual
side of Korea we've heard about the
emotional side of care we've heard about
the caring the form a relationship with
people but being nor so all we've heard
about and the inspirational saint and
the way that we can all inspire others
we see what you can do in the classroom
you've seen what you can do and reports
and we've seen that you know the true
representation of the Torah can't be
distorted in any way I want to take you
to the other side
be a practical example right where I'm
gonna hate to the other side
is the flip side if the what goes on
behind the scenes
so we were talking about Guinness before
I'll give an example of a chavatal and I
was involved in
20-plus years ago right taking a bunch
of university students from the UK
mainland over to Dublin great we're
gonna do a Shabet on it's a very
traditional care of Chabot on there's
gonna be
Shabbos meals there's going to be
singing there's gonna be Shirin but if
you're gonna spend Friday afternoon in
Dublin what are you going to take
watching University students to you take
them to the Guinness brewery
right you take my the Guinness brewery
began a tour and at the end they all get
their 2/3 half pints of Guinness which
is green some of them really enjoy it
some of them don't quickly enjoy it
those that enjoy it drank those we have
fines from those that didn't play for
they enjoy it brilliant discreet it was
lovely Chabot on there was only one
technical hitch if you're going to take
a bunch of students to the Guinness
brewery on a Friday afternoon the first
habit all don't arrange boom post the
talent is afraid make dinner
it doesn't go
follow no I sneezed white looks because
if everyone goes and eats with local
families having today in the afternoon
in the park doesn't go well and it
doesn't give you the opportunity for
curve
so what needs to happen of curve is we
need to think and we need to look behind
the scenes
Rochelle talked I think those for sure
might be relayed to us actually he
mentioned a little bit about this week's
part Rock I mentioned this briefly last
year I'm only going to touch on it just
now
most Lavigne is gonna hand over the
leadership he's gonna handle for the
leadership she um cheers to us before he
hands over the leadership he has a
pillar he has a prayer
and he asked sin he asked the shame what
he's looking for and
he asks the shame you don't Michele
shame anymore we've caught a share of
the care of course we call the Tsar
Aisha later to appoint a man on the on
the congregation but what are the
qualities the man's gonna have I show
you if me and I'll show you of olive me
him well sure you see em well show you
via lost yet others are Shane Kazan
share in the hemorrhoid he's looking for
someone who's going to be able to go out
before them and comment before them
who's going to be able to take them out
and he's going to be able to bring them
in and they shouldn't be the
congregation shouldn't be a congregation
without a shepherd
it's obvious right if you're gonna go
maybe as always if you is the person
who's gonna go out before then the same
person is gonna lead them out isn't the
person's gonna come in before them
person who's gonna bring them in or
necessarily their different qualities of
molesky is a beautiful explanation
he explains
think quoting resource wanta and these
ones quoting the mission of the end of
sorter Mishna says but it was Masuka
Pinilla dark near caliph for in the
footsteps of mushiya the leaders of the
and the faces of the january if they're
getting the faces of the dog what's
going on
but most of us having the dogs most was
probably haven't got dogs we all know
people have got dogs you seen people
take a dog for a walk someone takes a
dog for a walk Wow who's the dogs
running in front right in the car says
well are you pulling on the lead
who's who's leading
her the dog right except the dog gets
the coroner he stops waits for the
master to get gettin named tell look at
this iteration we're going with turning
left for trying right across the road
wherever happens to be
so
even the people are in front the dogs
have fun it's always looking behind the
leader right you think it looks like the
do some fun today we live in a world
which is you know democracy is the ideal
but anyone who's awake that is
constantly looking behind to the
electorate are they really the leader
are they just the elected figurehead
who's leading
no yeah yeah I want to bring here more
than that is there's two different
facets to leadership right there some
are talking about someone who's not only
going to be able to go out in front but
they're going to be able to bring the
people with
there's the has be
significant debate in sort of business
literature no leadership and management
right our leadership and management once
one thing the same thing are they two
different things leader is this the guy
is the stereotype vision Impressionists
leader is give vision to give a sense of
purpose to give a sense of direction and
the managers of the people who implement
that but it's not really true because
anyone is a successful leader has
management skills and anyone is a
successful manager also has leadership
skills and you need to have both and if
you're right the airin if you're working
in queues and the fact to if you're
doing anything in curious you could be a
regular classroom you can be running
your own career organization you can be
an overeater out by a community rather
you're a leader you're a community
leader whatever you're doing you're
already in a position of responsibility
you think you're and I'm already in a
classroom you're way out there you're in
out of time faster interface already
you're one of the Ruby in the time
because you're already in the classroom
people look to you in a lot but not
leadership role but in order to bring
people with you you need to have
this synthesis not just to being the
leader but the management skills that
are going to accompany that and if
people go and people working Caravan
they thinking here and you're always
thinking the the vision and the vision
is very important we'll come back back
in a minute and but you're never
thinking of what's going to go behind it
you're never gonna fully achieve was
potential I'll give you a path for
example of that and it was the first
source we see of curve in the door it's
off mabini odd Lavina is sitting in his
tent he's sitting at the gates of his
team because the gates open on foresight
so the people coming from all different
directions are gonna be able to come and
he's gonna be able to entertain them is
built from carved onto a college bar
through
Russia is a very interesting roughly the
beginning of our first video
so a bourbon is sitting Pensacola is
sitting at the the entrance to his tent
bharat muh over a shelf BF from december
better to see if there's someone going
back and forth and to bring them into
his house no one see firstly why is he
sitting at the entrance to his face he
wants to go and do half gnosis or food
he wants to bring people in but you know
the people who are neem who don't have
food they'll come to him anyway he's
known me know i've Medina's house to
come to they'll come knock on the door
and you'll invite them in so who's he
waiting for he's keeping an eye out for
so if someone's
never
had meat to go to someone for siddhartha
charity right you're gonna make that
frustating first approach is very
difficult so they're often you know they
walk past the door they think about it
and they think that's why goofin off
from the door and a bit nervous until
something gets the habit or that the
hang of it having to ask is a very
difficult thing to do
so I've not been in this situation but
since people come to him we're gonna
come to them he's looking out for the
people who are walking past her actually
says over for shower for the people who
are going back and forth and haven't yet
come to the door how difficult is it for
someone who's not yet religious to walk
into a yeshiva or to walk into a notary
Center I used to work in jail II a month
and jellies there are some EF branch in
London and
you have seen it but when you come to
the doors
walking through the glass doors and the
first thing you've got is these flight
of stairs going up stairs and if you've
never walked in there before but the
number of people spoke to the idiot like
they feel like it's intimidating
why should it be intimidating but the
answer is it shouldn't be intimidating
because we've got to keep an idea and I
earned for unknowing all of our goal is
caravan outreach here's a practical
implementation of it it's got to be made
as welcoming as possible you've got to
go out of your way so that the people
who do go back and forward and think
shall I go in there shall I walk up the
stairs why do so many cute groups one as
it's so important that so many care of
groups come or Samia and come to achieve
us here or elsewhere
might become they system they learn for
two days for three days some of them
come back and we learn you know an
extended obtained a trip a three week
trip but most of them are short-term
trips they come in here for a few days
why is that so important the answer is
because if you've never set foot in a
yeshiva before you've absolutely no idea
what it's like whilst you're stereotyped
image of you you see but you see how a
non-religious person they're halfway
thinking about a monastery ah
so someone comes in it commonly walk
through the door they see those normal
people here that people here that they
could be on campus with back in the
university they sit and they get
received intellectually stimulating Cox
from the different robot namely see the
the general vibe and the atmosphere
around you completely break a stereotype
and all of a sudden it becomes a very
welcoming place and it can go into
someone's head and they can think about
you know what this is something I can
think about I'm gonna come back to again
in the future
so a
couple of points of our leadership
eventually briefly vision or Schiller
talks about the idea about the overall
perspective seeing qalaat the difference
between vision smear vision you've got
the overall picture schmear you've got
to be off course you've got some here
individually but the visions got the the
snapshot the overall perspective most
vision I
was I'm again couldn't that many years
my first involvement cured was involved
in youth movements youth movements in
the UK which was
but were not particularly and religious
people movers but that a very strong
Jewish identity it was a pull my hair
then I guess this is poi the wrong
audience but Roger McGough Roger McGough
will and the Marisa second Liverpudlian
put these poems published in the late
1960s there was a poem that was this I
want to be the leader I want to be the
leader can I be the leader can I can I
promise promise you I can I'm the leader
I'm the leader okay what should we do
that's the poem right the next is very
obvious right leader first thing you've
got to have absolutely clear his
direction you need to have a vision you
need to know where you're wanting to get
to know
we see obviously Khomeini semester
leadership from the Torah what Robina
was Wow Israel but his leadership was
vision driven right there was a neva it
was an experience at the burning bush he
had the he experienced a vision he was
told he's going to go he's going to take
the people out of slavery he's going to
bring them to areas Mr Al and he's there
was a challenge that was expressed to
him but it was given as efficient
at the end of his life there's another
opportunity for coming up we will be
coming out to miss him in the coming
weeks as we go through say for deferring
multi-beam is giving his speech to
claudius rail and on the board is very
stressful and he shares his vision with
Policastro he shares his vision of how
they're going to into the land he shares
his vision of what's life going to be
like in the land and he tells him of the
challenges that they're going to have he
shares the vision of how they're going
to constantly be able to maintain a
connection with the Torah there with him
is for example of high-heel that they're
always going to come back every seven
years a year and connect choose the
resolves freshen but he shares that
vision they're always tied to this idea
what they're trying to achieve so before
you lead you need to have a vision I'll
go back to what I talked about before
with the paper Guinness right you have
the vision you have the direction where
you're going but if you want to be able
to keep with the bubbles always going up
you need to have the skills and you need
to have the the behind-the-scenes the
management skills the management
thoughts and processes in place in order
for you to be able to go and achieve
what you're trying to do so one thing is
to have a vision a safety thing is to
set goals set specific goals for what
you're trying to do with their activity
and then you've got to think about okay
so what I setting as a goal now and what
am i doing and how is that going to
affect how is that gonna implement
for house what I'm doing going to be
effective in the goals
I'll give you a few practical examples
resistant they're spending currently
teachers injili a month and one of the
pioneers of kirov right
our legend ins of Africa
the kirov he does is performing as we've
heard today but forming relationships
with people who he gives shearing
regularly my what the purpose of the
shiri if you ask him what's the purpose
issue obviously the purpose is to teach
Torah to share Torah to inspire people
in Torah to let them learn someone but
that's not his principal goal in
teaching this year as far as he's
concerned the shear is the Hickey temps
up to get the Shabbos invite right
because if people come to your shear and
they start coming to that then you
invite them for your sharpest meals and
you develop a relationship with novels
and that's when you can start getting
having developing a relationship and
building rules so if you're not gonna
have the facility to have a follow-up
this year why are you having this year
give you another example of this if
you're running late save
eastern-european turn right there are
many different organizations from the
States Canada from Europe ago they come
and tours they go to Poland they fear
through Jewish heritage history and the
positive side of Jewish life in Europe
and then the events of the last century
and it can be tremendously inspirational
and moving tourists and they can have a
tremendous impact on the individual why
are you running that event yes you're
running that event because you want to
have the impact in the person yes you
want to give them the educational
content but at the same point it is the
be-all and end-all going to be that one
trip someone's going to come on a
four-day trip and then they're going to
go back and you're not gonna have
contact with them no it's the same idea
as the shear in the Shabbos view you're
doing it so that you as an a carb as a
rabbi or whatever role you are are able
to develop a relationship of the people
but you're then able to follow up in
that relations it's going to grow over
the current period of time and whether
it's you or your team of staff who are
on the event and that's the goal so you
can have those relationships with
afterwards now running an event cost
money resources are limited how are you
gonna decide what you're gonna do
if you decide that's my goal and my goal
is to be able to facilitate the
relationships between the staff and the
members of these students what do you do
when you don't have staff to run the bed
I can run the event I can get the
students event we can do it but you know
I've only got two staff to go on the
event I'm not going to say in six
Rabbani or six my trophy murder heart on
the event to form a relationship to do
the follow up
if you can't send this after to the
follow-up your events almost like move
little it doesn't need to be there
because you can't do what you're setting
out to do so you need to think what's my
goal how am I going to implement it to
make sure you've got the ability to do
the follow-up afterwards my wife used to
run seminars and service in South
America I can't remember the name of the
role many many years ago and the East
Iran cure seminars kershaw Burton evenly
used to have easily hundreds of British
burns there are some of the advisers of
participants via via they had a Ishita
in their career and they saw a
statistical difference
every single participant of the sabaton
received a phone call within 48 hours
right after the event everyone got
ideally within 24 hours they familiar
than 48 hours and they saw a statistical
difference when people received calls
and follow-up calls within a short
period of time and even within a week
right so that again comes back to your
planning and how you're gonna do how are
you gonna see that you're gonna use your
management to coordinate the gate and T
I've got this vision I've got this lofty
goal I know what I want to achieve how
are you actually gonna implement that
same thing why'd you excuse me - any any
Irish organization you know have you a
database have you an ability of doing
follow-up and maintaining connection
with your students with your alumni
because that so curious about it curious
about forming relationships
so that's one idea that leadership
one other idea about leadership and care
of really leadership is it's a sense of
responsibility
take on a role
you have to feel a sense of
responsibility you have to be proactive
about us contrast the beginning of cifra
gracious in the beginning surrender see
Febreze and see fresh moose there's a
tremendous contrast in that in the way
that the incidents are happening
the opening chapters of breakfast are
failures of responsibility but
applications of responsibility but a
shame confront some of their sin right
what does Adam see
it's calm what does Kaabah see
she blames mother father blames the
serpent the the not harsh right
kind says am I my brother's keeper
no off writers in his own generation
isn't his only right is no generation
because he didn't go in the Caravelle is
didn't go and warn everyone hanged so
there's an abdication of responsibility
and contrast to that you see in the
beginning of schmoes Museveni takes
responsibility when he sees - as well as
vital to the nature of writing he
intervenes in Midianites when he sees
the shepherds they're preventing access
they're abusing the dog granting access
to the whales the daughters of Israel he
intervenes right he's brought up as an
Egyptian he could have avoided all these
confrontations he takes responsibility
Robert Levine mentioned deposit earlier
he talks about multi-beam of growing up
and cut in
this is a lesson for each and every one
of us
via Heba um ahem the demotion the Yeats
ever far VRC blossom the yard each
midstream Martha is she free may 5 the
offend Kovac or be our key in ish for
Yahoo the mystery the Adnan aberthol
so as in those days Moshe grew up he
grew up monks and he went out amongst
his brothers and he saw their civil sign
he saw their their toil this is the no
sir oh the Robert Levine was talking
about and he started it he bought the
set further in the closet he saw an
Egyptian man hitting an each every from
arms as brothers he turned this way and
that he looked left or right he looked
in he saw there was no one there
watching and he hit the mid street the
opponent before they buried her in the
fall and afterwards apostle says v8
serial machine he goes out in the Nate's
need to go in-camera meter starts him
starting on his path becoming the
different cars bro well share an idea I
heard when I was learning as a buffer
here way back remember she it was our
spire but we've measured him as well and
I don't know the mcore for this if
anyone does please I'd love to know this
who was ribboning what Robina was an
issue free he knew he knew he was a
Jewish boy knew that he grew up you know
where is his parents are from he knew
that but he was the Prince of Egypt he
was brought up in Paris house right he
was brought up with all the royalty
right he was someone whose identity was
completely and utterly confused because
he had two very conflicting identities
so what happens
but he be on a ahem for youth demotion
so Moshe grew up with this conflict
going internally for yet silikov and
what goes out he sees his brother as the
intern and he sees a silver Sun he sees
their toil for Yara each ministry
Marchetti every my father he sees the
Egyptian hatching the the is brother
Jude but you're fed cough a cough and he
turns this way and that not left and
right to look to see if anyone is
watching
internally he looks internally and he
sees himself a my motion livery or a
mine Lucia Prince of Egypt Who am I the
ark he ain't ish and he saw that when he
had this conflict there was no person
for Yahoo Tom it's three Viet Minh
avocado he smoked the mystery within him
any buried in the sand and then he went
forward he took was possibility to go
and become a leader for Cairo
so
as we close the seminar that's gonna be
Marv even a couple of minutes
you've heard you've made a large number
of the Rabbani who teach in our lagoa
we've hopefully shared some ideas and
insights into cubes intellectual
emotional hopefully a few practical
ideas to not just know as well if you
have any questions I'm around after
Mario and my contact informations and
all the bits of paper at the back please
be in contact and
the program has been going more than 30
years we've hundreds of alumni filling
meaningful positions in more than 30
countries across the world we're
currently recruiting for the next year
if you're interested please take the
opportunity whether you come and join us
or not or whether you continue on your
own journeys in midstream you should all
continue to grow and grow to maximize
your potential and also being the car of
others to approach Barca thank you
[Music]
