Okay, I'm going to have a voice day as
we prepare for Parshat Beshalach. So,
today we're going to do a little bit
different. I'm going to read to you from
a tremendous safer that we've been
quoting from recently. The name of the
safer is Masois Yerushalayim, the
travels of Jerusalem, which was um
compiled as a diary of the trip of the
Minchas Elazar of Feivel Elazar Shapiro
when he came to Eretz Yisrael
I believe in the year 1930
when he came to visit
uh Reb Elyashiv Alfandari.
Actually, we are Reb Alfandari is buried
in Har Hazeisim. Uh it was one of the
Kvarim that we didn't get a chance to uh
to visit. But
we uh the other the other week we
learned about the Minchas Elazar's
travels to Har Hazeisim. Today I want to
read to you about when the Minchas
Elazar traveled to Tzfas, Eretz Kodesh.
So, Hashgacha Hadera that I flipped
around the Shiurim today. I want to
welcome my host, Reb Shaul
uh
Shaul Yisrael Orbach, who hosted me this
past week in Eretz Yisrael, and who took
us to Tzfas this past
Thursday
uh we woke up 4:30 in the morning and uh
we got to Tiveria like in record time, I
think in hour 45 minutes.
Wow. Yeah, right? I don't know if we
should say that publicly because that
might mean that we were driving a bit
quick. But actually uh the Baal Shem Tov
has certain Shemois that get you there
quicker, so it doesn't necessarily mean
that we sped. Kfitzas Haderech. But
basically we got there 7:00 and we have
a good friend in Tiveria, Reb Binyamin
Kemper. He organized a Minyan for us
and breakfast for us. And from there we
went to various Kvarim. We went to the
Kever of Rebbi Akiva and the Ramchal. I
believe we went there first. We went to
the cemetery in Tiberias where the
Tamide Baal Shem are buried, including a
Tamid of the Vilna Gaon Rabbi Yisrael
Mishkolov.
From there we went to the cover of the
Rambam, Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai, Rabbi
Eliezer ben Hurcanus, and the Shlah
Hakadosh.
And then from there we went to the cover
of Rabbi Meir.
And then from there we went to the Hamat
Tiberias and to the we saw the Galilee.
We actually we have there's a shear on
the Galilee. Somebody asked me if I was
standing in the Galilee giving that
shear. You'll see the footage, it's
pretty good. Anyway, from there we went
to the city of Safed.
And we we had a very warm reception from
our good friends, the Rosen Mishpacha,
Rabbi Aaron Rosen and his wife, and also
we visited Rabbi Resnick, and also the
chief operating officer of
Breslov, Rabbi Mervis. So, hopefully I
were giving everybody their
kudos online over here. Um, but be it as
it may,
we were zocheh to
to go to the ancient city of Safed.
We also were zocheh to get into a shul
which is not available to the public. We
went to the Rabbi Yosi ben Nach shul.
And inside that shul, which you can't go
to,
but uh there was a
um an old time Safed Yid who has the
keys of that shul, and in the shul is
buried the Tanna Rabbi Yosi ben Nach. We
were zocheh to daven there. Anyway,
let's read about the in Yeah, in that
makom.
I mean uh you open up the door, so
there's in a separate area.
Anyway, let's read about when the
Minchas Elazar went to Safed and he
visited the kvorim of the Ari, the
Ramak, and Rabbi Alkabetz, Rabbi
Yosef Caro, and the Tanna Rabbi Pinchas
ben Yair. Okay, so let's take a look. It
should be on your page on page kuf ayin
tes.
So, he says like this. "Thevayenu chazar
l'Safed
When we return to Safed, we were
assisted.
We were broken to pieces. The regular
show of the guy. Basically, they had a
very arduous trip until now. The fire
had a sister of him. Over Arab Shabbat
Kodesh, even though it was after midday.
The ruler of the righteous oil had a
result. So, again, this was talking
about Lag B'Omer. This is Lag B'Omer
5700.
Excuse me, 5700.
Um and uh they wanted a copper iron to
go to the cover of the Arizal on Lag
B'Omer despite the fact that it was come
out of my Shabbos. I share hair a lot of
this guy always
for Rajvi.
Then on this great day
of Lag B'Omer, it was worthwhile for
them to go to the cover of the Arizal.
He, of course, was the one who
illuminated the words of the Rajvi.
Therefore, in one fell swoop, in one
motion,
we went down quickly
in the to the valley. So, you know that
the ancient cemetery in Safed is sort of
toward the bottom of the mountain. The
place where the people live.
The shuls are higher up on the mountain.
The first cover they visited
cover of Ishmael Kim.
Race on the Kabbalah.
That was the first cover they went to.
The cover of the Arizal. So, that's you
turn over.
The image of his cover is revealed.
As is the the image of the cover of
Medina but being in keepers of them.
Which had some kind of dome dome of
stones going over the Iraq.
That's not how it looks now.
You know, though his description of the
cover RE is not how it looks now.
The length of the cover is covered in
stone the whole Allah
Ashkenazi.
Now there's a big question about the RE
zone.
Cuz with the name like Ashkenazi
you know, so you would expect that he
davened Nusach Ashkenaz.
One thing's for sure, there are many
great people who davened Nusach
Ashkenaz. The RE zone was not one of
them.
The RE zone davened Nusach Sefard.
After all, he was the one who came up
with the Kabbalistic
um
intentions for Nusach Sefard. So there's
a great debate among the Posekim. Was
the RE zone an Ashkenazi or was the RE
zone Sefardi? So you would think all the
Ashkenazim are want to are going to want
to claim that the RE zone was Ashkenazi
and all the Sefardim are going to want
to claim that the RE zone was Sefardi.
No, it's just the opposite. All the
Ashkenazim say, "No, you take him. Then
he's a Sefardi." And all the Sefardim
say, "No, he was Ashkenazi." Why do they
do that?
Cuz from here there's a there's a
tremendous question in Halacha and that
is are you allowed to switch Nusachs?
Somebody grew up davening Nusach
Ashkenaz, are you allowed to switch to
Nusach Sefard? Someone who grew up
davening Nusach Sefard, are they allowed
to switch to Nusach Ashkenaz?
So what does it depend on? Depends on
the RE.
If the RE zone was an Ashkenazi
then we have a Raya that if you're an
Ashkenazi, you could switch to Sefard.
If the RE zone was a Sefardi, he never
switched. So the Ashkenazim say, "No, he
was always a Sefardi." I his name was
Ashkenazi? Well,
he may have taken on the name. He he
grew up a Yosam. He may have taken on
the name from his mother's side. And the
the uh Sefardim say, "No, he was an
Ashkenazi, and you could switch."
So, bottom line, are you allowed to
switch?
Yes, but only one way.
Which way?
The Mekubalim say you're allowed to
switch from Ashkenaz to Sefard.
But Moshe says
but Moshe says you're not allowed to
switch from Ashkenaz to Sefard.
I how could the Ba'al Shem Tov have
done? But Moshe says, "Beats me. I
wouldn't have thought I don't know.
I have no idea how the Hasidim were able
to change." But says Moshe, "Anyone who
davens as a Sefard, they're always
allowed to go back to Ashkenaz." Why?
Cuz that's your real minhag. That's what
you used to daven until the Hasidim
changed it. That's the psak of Moshe.
And the Mekubalim said the opposite, but
Moshe, who is the final word of Halacha
in America, he says you could switch,
but from Sefard to Ashkenaz, but not the
other way around. Okay, it's a old
debate, old Machlokes.
Anyway, we know the Ariza was nifter in
the year Shaleg.
What's the year Shaleg?
1573,
when he was 38 years old.
Move on Mamela, it is self-understood
Ragshes Betzion ben Zalman in Ella. The
feeling, the emotion that the Minchas
Elazar displayed was awesome. The Haloi
who
Ayar ve Kaddish Mishmaya Nachis.
This is a
a description in Daniel. Ayar is an
awake one, referring to an angel and a
holy one who descended from heaven. By
the way, on whose kever does it say Ayar
ve Kaddish Mishmaya Nachis?
That's what it says on the kever of the
Rashbi.
But the Minchas Elazar is applying this
to the Ari.
Legales so I am coming in a yam to
uncover the wisdom of truth from the
depths of the sea. Add in Cheker Sofer
U'Mabit page Kof Pei, three three lines
from the end on the top. The
that is also clearly in all the worlds
because
the moral doesn't
matter.
The angels on high would tremble
with the the holy pure spirit of his
words. The
narrow and nothing in him.
Next to him says the safer message of
this I wasn't aware of is the camera of
the son of that result who's that of
Moshe been Rubenstein.
Says
the master of the sign.
Let's say you can only come to this
world for half hour.
You land in the ancient cemetery in
you dive in by the
and then back to wherever you live
die.
It's enough. Meaning if if let's say you
you were
you had you went there for a week and
you had a half hour and you went to the
and the rest of the time you had to
visit your relatives. So basically you
you know what did you accomplish
already?
It's enough. You got in the camera
the matter
of
What?
He's not saying what's better. He said
if this is all you do it's enough.
The one catcher stood there in his
prayer for a rabbi always by your
believe in Vegas.
With many thoughts of
unity of God and fear with a heart full
of emotion
and longing. The
this is the great lion I should be the
rest of the year
that we involve ourselves in day and
night
of the nation
meaning especially among the kingdom who
emphasize the study of the
as understood by the time I mean them
that the Baal Shem Tov sort of brought
down to the people the knowledge of the
Kisvei Ari and this was a an especially
poignant moment for the Minchas Salazer.
Okay, we move on. Who is the next kever?
The next kever was Ramash Cordovero.
Now, just as an aside, Ramash Cordovero,
the Ramak,
had a different system of Kabbalah than
the Ari Zal.
In fact, in the Sefer Kesser Roi'sh of
Rabbi Chaim Vital
he writes
that where philosophy ends, Kabbalah
begins.
Where philosophy ends, the Kabbalah of
the Ramak begins. Where the Kabbalah of
the Ramak ends, the Kabbalah of the Ari
Zal begins.
The Ramak had a very important system of
Kabbalah.
Who was the greatest talmid of the
Ramak? Reish. Someone who never saw him.
The Ramam Mipano.
Ramam Mipano purchased
the rights to the Kesuvim of the Ramak
from the widow of the Ramak
and she could not she would not release
it until the Ramam Mipano sent money to
the Beis Yosef and the Alshich to
prevail over her to send to Italy his
writings. In fact, the Chida we have in
the Chida we have the exact amount of
money the Ramam Mipano had to send
the Alshich and the Beis Yosef to
convince he had basically had to pay
them to work for him to convince the
amana of the Ramak to give to send his
Kesuvim. Did he have you there he also
prayed?
Maybe. Let's see what it says here.
Acher Nechaz Beshavach Sechaneinu
Veasireinu Berada, then we poured out
our prayer in trembling by the Ari.
Next to the Ari.
Next to him amash Le'Oyler Tefilah
LeMoshe.
To pray the Tefilah LeMoshe Hu Menuchas
Maran Hakadosh Elokei Rabbeinu Moshe
Cordovero Zechus Yagen Aleinu.
UMoshe Alah LeMarom.
Moshe went up, meaning that Moshe
Cordovero passed away.
Passed away on a Wednesday. 15 Tammuz
Shnas
Shin Lamed. What year is Shin Lamed?
1570 1570 1570. Yes, remember the
formula. You add the number to the year
1240. So, the Ari Zal was nifter in
Shaleg.
And the Ramak was nifter 3 years
earlier. So, you could sound like you
know something. All you have to remember
is the Ari Zal Shaleg and the Ramak is 3
years earlier.
While he he was nifter still while the
Ari was alive who holak l'avoisai
He went to accompany the Re Ari
Cordovero Or Tzaddikim
B'amita Torah B'ein Shamayim Ari Zal
K'shnei Amudim Shel Eish Holchim Saviv
Mitat Shel Ramak Acharei Histalkuso.
When the Ramak passed on, two pillars of
fire went around the bed of the Ramak.
And that's how he went up to Shamayim.
And he is also buried under this dome
like the kever of the Ari.
Now, if you go there today,
I'm not familiar of any dome that is
there in that area. They both have
separate kevarim.
Okay.
When when did you go? When was this
written?
This is written in in Tav 30
Reish
Tzadi
So, Tav Reish Tzadi is 630.
Except here's the 690.
Add
1240 is get 1930.
Now, by the way, who was the Ramak?
Do you know what I mean? Who was he?
He's the Ramak. He's a Moshe Cordovero.
Now, come on. We're in Tzfat now. Talk
the language.
What? They write the Perush HaSulam. No,
no.
No, the Sulam is more more recent. The
author of the Sulam
The author of the Perush HaSulam was
Ashlag.
Ashlag. Ashlag, thank you. Rabbi Ashlag.
The Ramak wrote
Alima Rabbasi and
the most well-known safer that the Ramak
wrote is the Tamar Devorah. Right? So,
he brings down in a footnote, you ready
for this?
Kasa Besiva Golem that the Ramak was
none none other than Zechariah ben
Yehoyada
the Navi. Who? The new
Also, some say he was the source of
Eliezer Avraham.
That's a Now, I'll tell you a different
thing.
Actually, in the Shaar HaGilgulim it
says
that the Arizal told the Ramak
that he had the Oh, no, excuse me.
We'll get to that. Weiter. So, the Ramak
was Zechariah ben Yehoyada was Zechariah
ben Yehoyada the Navi. Some say he was
the source of Eliezer Avraham.
Next,
V'gam Panina ben Levi, we then went to
the Levi.
N'ima Tzion, the sweet singer Kedushas
Maran Elikia Kodesh, Rabbeinu
Alkabetz.
Who's Rab Alkabetz?
He wrote Kabbalat Shabbat. He wrote
Lecha Dodi.
He was actually related to the Ramak.
Rabbi, the Rebbe, the Geisai, and the
brother-in-law
of the Ramak. In fact, Rab
Alkabetz wrote a famous commentary on
Megillas Esther. What is it called?
Manos HaLevi, which he sent to the
Ramak, his brother-in-law, as Shaloch
Manos.
That would sure I I'd rather people send
me Seforim than send me a Laffy Taffy.
Okay.
U'movo b'Shulchan Aruch Kodesh The kids
would rather have Laffy Taffy. Is it
minhag? Is that a good good minhag or
not?
Yeah, I'm not going to start up. It's
all cherry. It's the kids, they'll go to
Laffy Taffy. But Seforim they can't eat.
We have to eat. They can't eat them.
That's true. U'movo b'Shulchan Aruch
Aruch. It's brought in the Shulchan
Aruch Michtav
that Reb Alkabetz was with the
Beit Yosef one night of Shavuot.
Um and we know that they had a giluy
from a malach who told them that Hashem
was very pleased with their learning.
Baal Hashirim, I share turn to page kuf.
Pay
dalet.
L'Shlomo
Alkabetz is the author of Lecha
Dodi that was accepted in all
um well,
far-flung areas where the Jewish people
have lived. L'Shlomo Alkabetz
that spells out rashei teivot
Halevi.
He's also the Baal Hamachaber Sefer
Menorat HaLevin Esther.
U'Pelech HaMaseh Shevi'i B'Sifrei
Te'urei Eretz HaKodesh.
Me'ir HaKodesh Me'ir Rav Shimon Rav um
Shimon ben Gav-
Gabirol. Sh'Me'ir Chochmasi.
Niskaneh b'Umei HaOlam.
There's a story
that Reb Alkabetz was so wise
that the Umei HaOlam were jealous of
him. Yishmael Achal Haragoi.
And a Ishmaelite killed him. B'Minat
Achas Ilan B'Gan Shulai.
B'Yedei She'His'ana
She'Ateina Chunto Pagah Kodem Z'mano
Chok Ruba Chino D'Davar B'Nisla
U'Ritzach Alaisa Ilan. Muva B'Sefer Kol
HaKavod al amar Rav Alkabetz.
So basically the story goes
that
that the
they basically they the Umei HaOlam
hated Reb Alkabetz so much, they
were so jealous of him that they killed
him
and they buried him under some kind of
fig tree. And the fig tree bore fruit
early before its time.
And because of that, they said, "What's
going on with this fig tree?" And they
checked underneath it and and sure
enough, the Reb Alkabetz
was buried there.
And they hung the murderer on that
particular fig tree. Now, he brings over
here in Otiot Daled on the bottom on
page Kuf Pey Daled
that
we know that the Reb Alkabetz
sent as a gift Shalach Manos to his
father-in-law and his brother-in-law
before his marriage.
And it's such a beloved love letter,
um he he brings it over here.
Which page?
Pey Daled.
Pey Daled. Pey Daled.
Pey Daled is just showing that I'm not
going to the front.
So, he writes over here that he sends it
to his father-in-law.
Chais Chotani Gevir
and he says, "Reb Yitzchak will kindly
allow you in. K'she Chavalim Nafli
b'Naimah skochi b'Goral Nachlas Avi. I'm
sending you this
beautiful Perush on Megillas Esther."
Okay. So, let's go. Let's continue.
On page Kuf Pey Vav.
U'Shlosha Ro'im Yisrael Malachei K'manal
K'vodam u'M'komam Munach
These three shepherds, who are they? The
Ari, the Ramak, and Ramash Cordovero.
Uh the Ramash Cordovero and the Reb
Alkabetz Yachdav Smuchim l'Adonai
hem together forever. B'Tziyunam
l'Roshom
in their Tziyunam. And the Remez is
Zashemei.
Shemei stands for
Moshe,
Yitzchak. of course is Reb
Alkabetz. Moshe is Moshe Cordovero. And
Yitzchak is
Reb Yitzchak Luria.
And that is their eternal resting place.
Okay, he continues on.
The mission.
Not far from there.
We went to the house of Joseph.
When was Carol this didn't realize this
is on
You'd give me a Nissan.
The year Shin hey.
So I'm a
Shin hey.
Shin hey
what 1570?
That is all in 1573
and they say 1575.
So he says Robin show me Robin show me.
The remedy of our remedy.
In Niguel.
After praying.
Where do we go?
Now
what do you do if there's a
between
these two great luminaries?
That is all.
And
the way you say.
In how long huh?
What do you do?
And there are many of them.
What do you do when you have a
between these two of them? The
and the way you say.
The truth is they both knew Niguel and
they both knew that.
goes safe. We know
you knew that cuz he had a malach who
came to teach him Kabbalah. Like a whole
safer was composed. Like it says Magain
May Shorim. That they revealed him in a
shamayim rosh and ilan.
And we know that Arizal knew nigleh
like it's brought in the safer Divrei
Torah that the Munkatcher writes in
Hilchos Yisrael name of the Ari
that he wrote he learned halacha gufei
Torah six times in nigleh
and the seventh time nistar.
But doyros olam, the Ari is known for
his nigleh.
It's for his nistar and the Beis Yosef
for nigleh. So what do you do when the
two of them argue? So this is one of the
most incredible machlokesin.
In halacha in halacha.
So the Chida writes
that if the Beis Yosef argues on the
Arizal
you pass like the Ari. Why?
Because if the Beis Yosef would have
known what the Arizal said
he would have changed his mind.
Cuz the Ari had Eliyahu.
The only reason that Beis Yosef argued
is cuz he didn't know the Arizal's
position. If he would have known the
Arizal's position, he would have changed
his mind. He would have been chozer.
Comes Rav Ovadia Yosef. He says, "Who
told you Chida that the Beis Yosef would
have changed his mind?
Why? Just because the Ari had Eliyahu?
Why would the Beis Yosef have changed
his mind? Why would the Beis Yosef have
cared that the Eliyahu visited the Ari?
Who cares?
It doesn't matter. Not in not in nigleh.
The Beis Yosef wouldn't have cared about
what what Eliyahu Hanavi said.
Lo bashamayim hi. Says Rav Ovadia, "If
the Beis Yosef paskens against the Ari,
we pass like Beis Yosef."
And this is a very major machlokes in
Sefardic world between Rav Ovadia and
Rav Yaakov Hillel. Rav Yaakov Hillel
will follow the psak in of the Ari
which is a more of a Kabbalistic
approach and the Mavadia always follows
the Halachic approach of the Beit Yosef
cuz he felt the Beit Yosef was Marah
D'Ara D'Yisrael. Okay. Later, chof. So
they finished, they went to Ari, the
Ramak, Rash Mal Kabitz, Beit Yosef. By
the way, there's some other great kvorim
there. We went to the kever of
the Ba'al Shem of Avraham Ibschits and
very next to him in the cave is the uh
cave of Rav Dovid. Now I can tell you a
chiddush. I've been giving this shiur
for a long time and every time I quote
this individual, I pronounce his name
um
um Ibschits. It's probably this one is
probably pronounced Ibschits.
So okay, that's a chiddush. But over
here we have an ois chof acharei kach lo
yish Beit Sachai anachnu ragleinu omdu
b'Mishor hayotzei d'Avshalom. They went
all the way to the bottom. They hoyu
l'neged eineinu. And who was there on
the bottom? It illuminated opposite our
eyes Kedushas Ben Yair who Menuchas
haTanna Rav Pinchas Ben Yair, Chosnai
Shel Rashbi.
The father-in-law of the Rashbi.
Now there's a machlokes was Rav Pinchas
Ben Yair the father-in-law of the Rashbi
or the son-in-law of the Rashbi. But
that's for a different time. So
um all the way in the bottom we we
didn't have a chance to go down there.
It was a very tight schedule. But all
the way in the bottom of the hill is the
Tanna Pinchas Ben Yair. What's the
famous maimer of Rav Pinchas Ben Yair?
Tanya Rav Pinchas Ben Yair omer
haTora m'vi l'yidei z'hirus. Haz'hirus
m'vi l'yidei z'rizus. Z'rizus m'vi
l'yidei
n'kiyus. N'kiyus m'vi l'yidei prishus.
Prishus m'vi l'yidei
tahara, Kedushah, Ruach Hakodesh,
Techiyas HaMeisim. Okay.
The Sha'arei Orah of the Maharal of
Prague says in the Ma'amar
Pinchas ben Yair was the one who cried
bitter tears when he came out of the of
the cave. K'mo ba'avor ba'sefer Shabbos
The Gaon Shaul Anochi Sefer Orah
Ah.
Now, look on the page kuf pei tes,
second line. Rabbeinu Hegeid
The Munkatcher said over Shema Kolo
MeTzaddikim that there's a tradition
from the Tzaddikim last days Hakafos
to make
Hakafos al Kever Kedushas Rebbe Pinchas
ben Yair
that they have an ancient custom they
would go around and around. They make
Hakafos on the Kever of Pinchas ben
Yair. B'chein Osina, and likewise we did
this. U'maran Sad Bereshach Berurah
The Minchas Elazar took the lead by
Amiras Charuzei Anav Bekayach. The
Oishev Beseser
Nachman ben Yair Zayin Pa'am. They went
around seven times.
So, we didn't have a chance to do that.
So, hopefully have to go back there to
make the seven Hakafos
hopefully next time. Ve'sarei'ach Chaya
Alah Chafli
There's a great arousal there of
connection to Hashem K'viyachol
Nimtza
So, Achdus Balanah She'eino Ba'al
HaMoiser Einenu Tishkachna MeKodesh
Tzion Rachmana Itgalan Kiyumei DePinchas
ben Yair K'viyachol
HaMoiser Bigvuras Olam.
By the way, once we're on the topic
there's a famous story about Rebbe
Pinchas ben Yair. And the story goes
like this. And you say, "I didn't hear a
dvar Torah in the parsha yet." So, it's
a good thing uh
you stuck it out until now.
And that is Rebbe Pinchas ben Yair was
an expert in the mitzvah of Pidyon
Shvuyim.
In fact, it says in the Sefer Tanya that
anytime a person goes to uh do the
mitzvah of Pinyan Shvuyim, they'll be in
a slavish with the neshama of Pinchas
ben Yair. Fine?
So, he comes to a river called Har
Ginai.
And he says, "Ginai, split."
And the river split.
Okay, so you say, "Big deal, you know,
I've seen that before."
So, the river said, "By the way, why
should I split for you? I'm going to do
the will of God. You're going to do the
will of God. I know if I flow, I'll be
doing the will of God. You might not be
successful in
being Pinyan Shvuyim." So, Pinchas ben
Yair says, "You Pinchas ben Yair, split
now, otherwise I'll dry you out." So, he
split.
Now, there's a guy walking behind
Pinchas ben Yair carrying wheat for
Pesach. He said, "By the way, split now
for this guy."
And now the river knew that he's not
going to mess with Pinchas ben Yair, so
he split for the guy.
There was an Arab that was accompanying
them. He said, "Split now."
And he split.
Says the Amora Yosi in the Gemara in
Chulin daf zayin, "Kama nafsh gavra mi
Moshe u'shishim ribo?" How much greater
is this person than Moshe and 600,000?
There for Moshe and 600,000, it only
split one time. And for Pinchas ben
Yair, it split three times.
Fine?
So, this is what the Gemara is saying,
that Pinchas ben Yair was greater than
Moshe and 600,000 Jews.
So, we actually we were on Har Hazeisim,
and we said over this question, it's a
question of the Leshem.
Question is, how in the world could
Pinchas ben Yair be zocheh to be on a
higher level than Moshe and 600,000
Jews?
Let's talk about when Moshe Rabbeinu
came to the Yam Suf. Did Moshe have an
easy time splitting the Yam or a hard
time splitting the Yam? It was hard.
Moshe wanted to split. Hashem said,
"N'tei yadcha." What did the Yam do?
Nothing.
So, what did they have to do?
Moshe showed the Yam Aroina shel Yosef.
Didn't budge. Moshe showed the Yam
Bracha of Rabbi Yishmael.
Didn't.
Nachshon ben Aminadav had to jump in up
to his nose. Finally, it split.
So, Moshe Rabbeinu is having his much as
he trying to to split the Yam and
Pinchas ben Yair says, "Split now,
otherwise I'll dry you up and you'll you
know, you'll never be the same again."
And it split for him, for his attendant,
and for some Arabah that was behind him.
What's going on? How could Pinchas ben
Yair accomplish what Moshe Rabbeinu was
not able to accomplish?
So, there's a famous piece
in the Leshem, Rabbi Elyashiv who
lived from 1841 to 1928.
By the way, the Leshem, Rabbi Aryeh
Levin writes about the Leshem, it's not
on your sheet,
that the Leshem could not really move
his right hand except when he wrote his
Chidushei Torah.
When he wrote his wrote his Chidushei
Torah, his hand moved like miraculously.
By the way,
um by the end of his life, he dictated
his Chidushei to his grandson.
Um who's his grandson? His grandson was
none other than Rabbi Yosef Shalom
Elyashiv.
Be it as it may, the Leshem who wrote
the Sefer the Sefer Leshem Shvo
ve'Achlama
in something called Klalei Hishtapshus
ve'Histalkus Klalei Anaf Gimel Eishes
writes an amazing thing.
That the reason Moshe Rabbeinu had such
a difficult time splitting the sea
is because it was before the Torah was
given. Before the Torah was given, there
was nature. And if you want to change
nature, you're going to have a very hard
time.
But once the Torah was given, the Torah
is the architectural plans of the
universe. Along with the giving of the
Torah is control of the universe.
And the control over the universe was
given to the Chachmei ha'Torah.
But then the Leshem says an even bigger
Chidush.
He says, "We find that after the Torah
was given, there were more miracles that
were performed. So, for example,
how many times in Chumash do we find
T'chiyas HaMeisim?
The answer is zero. Nobody brought
anybody back to life in the Chumash. And
in the Nevi'im, we find Eliyahu, Elisha
three times. Why is that?
The answer is
Elisha twice, I think. The answer is,
says the the Leshem, after the Torah the
after the Torah was given, the
masters of the Torah had complete
mastery over the Bri'ah and over
creation.
However, one amazing phenomenon that we
note is that while Eliyahu and Elisha
were only able to be Mechayei Meisim a
few times, in the the Amoraim in the
Gemara were able to be Mechayei Meisim
every Monday and Thursday. Anybody who
died they could wake up. In fact,
there's a tradition that if your name is
mentioned in the Gemara, you could be
Mechayei Meisim. That's why sometimes
we'll say, "Ha hu Gavra." There was a
man, what's his name? Can't say his
name. He he couldn't be Mechayei Meisim.
But if it says your name,
what So, how is it possible that only
Eliyahu and Elisha were able to be
Mechayei Meisim, and every single Tanna
and Amora was able to be Mechayei
Meisim?
And to that, the Leshem says
that the Ikkar Torah is the Torah
SheBe'al Peh.
And the Ikkar Z'man of the giving of the
Torah SheBe'al Peh was during the Second
Beis HaMikdash.
And from the period of the Tannaim going
into the Amoraim,
the completion of the Torah was given.
The that was the Z'man that the heavens
were open to give over to the world um
the Sodois of Torah SheBe'al Peh, and
along with that came the absolute
mastery and control over the Bri'ah.
That's the uh that's why Reb Pinchas ben
Ya'ir had an easier time doing what
Moshe Rabbeinu had a more difficult time
doing. Okay, so be it as it may,
uh that's what we mention over here.
We're talking about the Tanna Rab
Pinchas ben Yair, and he quotes over
here the story of what happened to him
in Chullin on daf zayin. Okay.
Let's do one more oise, and then wish
you again Shabbos. Chaf alef, page kuf
pay tes.
Bal oise say am in a har.
When we went up the mountain to Tzfas,
we came by the kever of the Tanna Rab
Yeshua.
So, what do you mean Rab Yeshua? Hoshea?
No, it's not Hoshea. Hoshea is not
buried there. He says, um, even though
the oilam says
that it's the kever of Hoshea ben
Be'eri, the Minchas Elozar said in the
name of the Arizal that it is not him,
but rather the Tanna Rab Yeshua.
Okay, and then he writes how they went
up the mountain with the koach of all
these tfilois. Look in the parentheses.
We He says we went back on Sunday to
daven by Maran Ha Oisech,
and Rab Yaakov Abuav,
and the say the author of the Be'er
Mayim Chaim, and the Yinuka,
and, um, we went to the mikvah of the
Ari that is in Tzfas. Tzfas Achino Liga
Biya Dayim Bimeiha
Mey Mey Hadas.
And then, um, the Munkatcher said as
follows, there's something I didn't get
a chance to say yet. Actually, I think
with this we did mention.
That we have a tradition from the Ari
that how many Jews are buried on the
mountain in Tzfas,
twice as many that left Mitzrayim, 1.2
million.
Miyaleh Bahar Zeh.
Umiyamneh Bnei Yisrael Roiveh Yisrael
Bitzal Dayim Ladas.
Uh, an amazing, uh, place. He says,
after Acharei Amo Yisrael, Banu
very tired all of our vertebrae were
protruding from the weary day.
Without any rest for the weary
awaiting the great day of Shabbos.
Okay, Marabou say
So the
writes and we actually we went to his
cover in Chevron.
And the ancient
was a grandfather of the Torah.
That if somebody passes away in
the air is so clear that the the soul
goes quicker to Garden than any other
place in the world. So
it's a very big school to be buried in
it's even a bigger school to remain
alive and to learn Torah. So I wish
everybody a good Shabbos. Baruch Hashem.
