and just make yourself available to show them the life of tyra and my brother willingly was there to say yes i'll be part of this and they hand it out to anyone who signed up a list that was generated from 401.com of jewish-sounding names that were never affiliated with we're never filling with any jewish organization that we knew of and their mission was to go up to these houses knock on their doors and make an offer and that's exactly what they did three months after the meeting it was a summer night the next address on his list was 12 sutton place and my brother parks his car on the corner and the first address on the block is number four now sometimes in jersey the address is skipped by four by eight not only by twos so he went to the next house and went to check if that is number 12. right away he spots a beautiful shiny silver mezuzah and he's thinking wow this is it and it gets that tight feeling in his stomach the feeling that the boy feels on that first date when he's ringing that bell and you build up the courage and you just push that button and you ring the bell and he did and as he's waiting for the reaction from the door he notices on the right side of the door post the address is not 12. the address is number six and he's thinking oh wrong house what do i do now they said wait a minute not the wrong house this is the right house it has a mezuzah and they're standing in the doorway was a middle-aged man probably in his 30s with a kind look on his face and a welcoming gesture says hello who are you he says oh i'm robbie freed i'm from down in lakewood he says oh that's so nice how can i help you he says oh i'm going around here in the jersey neighborhoods and i'm looking for families jewish families that may be interested in learning more about judaism he says oh that's wonderful i happen to be looking for a place to learn more about judaism and he welcomes them in they sit down at the table they start talking and it's funny how in common these two people are joe's wife joyce says she works his special ed and shelby says oh that's interesting my wife also does and they talk about special ed where are you guys from oh i'm originally from staten island as is my wife says wait a minute i'm also from staten island turns out they're from a neighborhood right near where we grew up and the conversation continues and it's wonderful it's getting warmer in the room and people are feeling comfortable and then it comes time to go and slimy says okay joe here's my card we'll be in touch joel takes a look at the card and he says hey how do you know my name somebody says what he says look at this card it said and it realizes it wasn't really joe's name it was really slimy's name because the last name stuck out off the page and was looking at him and was freed we had the same last name and that was beautiful and they laughed and schlemmy left and three days later schlemmie calls up joe and he says joe why don't we meet in lakewood come i'll show you around maybe we'll learn a little bit joe says that's great i'll meet you there on sunday morning sunday morning comes joe pulls into lakewood and he's shocked by the scene he's been around jersey but never to lakewood and what does it look like it's unbelievable people look religious they're it's bustling and hustling with strollers and families are coming and kosher stores and yeshivas they had lunch and as a treat at the end schleime took joe to tour the uru office which was then on east county line road after walking through the office they saw a pamphlet advertising tour mates joe's looking at it and there's these questions screaming out of the page why kosher where do people go when they die why do people eat to filter fish why do bad things happen to good people and joe turns to me and he says this is what i want to learn about islamic says that's great give me some time i'll prepare some classes and i'll come give classes in your home and that's what he did every two weeks schlemmie was there giving classes to joe and joyce and they were growing and joe says as the time passed and you learn more the questions just dissipated and week after week month after month changes started happening the house became kosher the children were enrolled in yeshivas after a few years one yeshiva to a better yeshiva and better at moving on after one class joe turns to shlaim and he says i really want to learn real gemara social media says that's fantastic let me look for a cabrus of you he pulls out his phone and he calls my brother-in-law mayor now mayor is already here in lakewood a wonderful man and he says are you available to teach kimura to my torah mate and there says sure no problem it's been years since this harvester shaft started and they finished with sakta after massachusetts years passed and it was time for matt's bar mitzvah joe's son and shlomi says i'm going to turn over the world to make sure i'm attending this bar mitzvah if i have to walk from lakewood i'll walk hashem arrangements were made and was able to stay right near joe's house for shabbos right where the bar mitzvah was going to be and then but and the bar mitzvah was beautiful [Music] matt lane from the torah and and he had his aliyah and then it came time for the meal for the bar mitsumi and joe got up to speak and he says i want to thank hashem for bringing me to this day just a couple of years back who who would have dreamt that i'd be standing here today i want to thank i want to thank my torah mate for helping us see just a couple of months before knocked on my door my mother had been visiting my home and she noticed that there was no messiest on the doorpost and she said joe you have to have a mezuzah on your door a jewish home needs a mezuzah and i pushed her off and i pushed her off but she was adamant joe you need him as those on your door and just two weeks later freed mistakenly knocks on my door because of my mesozoic mom thank you it was as simple as that just the introduction to a from family that was able to bring back from person it's not the professionalism it's showing someone the
