Rebbe to Shin Bet Head: The Coming Islamic Terror

Toward the beginning of the meeting, I gave the Rebbe a briefing on Shin Bet's forecasts for terrorism within Israel and outside Israel - worldwide terrorism. But the briefing that the Rebbe gave me later in the discussion - various forecasts about terrorism, and on the Islamic issue - I must say, was no less complete? As if the Rebbe had behind him a sophisticated intelligence system which collects and analyzes facts and converts them to intelligence. On all the topics, the Rebbe would talk more about the roots of things; both the roots of conflict between us and the Palestinians, also on the roots of Islam - and why, at the end of the day, fundamentalist Islamic organizations will continue and deepen - to at least attempt murderous terrorism. The eventual attack occurred on the Twin Towers in New York? this was it exactly: Islamic terror by Al Qaeda. If you analyze the Rebbe's words and apply them to the attack on the Twin Towers - it's almost verbatim what he predicted. The difference between my analysis and the Rebbe's was - I referred more to national issues - you're experiencing events now, you're touching them, the Rebbe referred to more to the roots, to the depths: "Why is it happening?" And when you know why it occurred, you can usually find a cure, or find some solution. - although the Rebbe was careful never to close the circle: He'd never tell me "Do this," or "Don't do this."
