welcome to the J well book club and
we're covering this month the book eat
that track with Ryan Tracy and we're
covering the 21 principles that Brian is
describing in the book and we're holding
by principle number four consider the
consequences your most important tests
and prior additives are dosed that can
have the most serious consequences
positive or negative on your life or
your work focus on these above all else
successful people have a clear future
orientation they think five ten twenty
years into the future they analyzed
their choices and behaviors in the
present to make sure that what they are
doing today is consistent with the
long-term future that they desire the
rule is long-term thinking improves
short-term decision-making always ask
yourself what are the potential
consequences of doing or not doing a
certain task
the rule is future intent influences and
often determines the present action that
should be your rule if a task or
activity has a large potential positive
consequence make it a top priority and
get started immediately on it but if
something has a smaller consequence then
it's a smaller priority in the same
thing if something has a large negative
consequence make sure you get it done
quickly as well you get on it right away
you make sure you don't do anything else
before this is completed but if
something has a low consequence then
maybe you can push it off a little bit
until you are done with the more
important tasks so the greater the
potential of positive impact that an
action or behavior has once you define
it clearly the more motivated you will
be to overcome procrastination and get
it done quickly the law of forced
efficiency says there is never enough
time to do everything but there is
always enough time
to do the most important things the
three questions you should ask yourself
number one what are my highest value
activities number two what can I do and
only I do that is done well will make a
real difference and number three what is
the most valuable use of my time right
now
in other words what is the biggest
accomplishment that will happen on the
activities the most important activity
that I'm going to do today
Scotty said the things that matter the
most must never be at the mercy of the
tanks that matter least homework for
principle number four review you list of
tasks activities and projects regularly
and continually ask yourself which one
project or activity if I did it in an
excellent and timely fashion would have
the greatest positive consequence in my
work or personal life and then determine
the most important thing you could be
doing every hour of every day
and then discipline yourself to work
continually on the most valuable use of
your time and think to yourself what is
the most valuable use of my time right
now wherever it is that can help you the
most
accomplish your goals this is on what
you should be focusing most of the day
we are covering principle number five of
the 21 principles for success from Brian
Tracy and that is since you can't do
everything you must learn to
deliberately put off those tasks that
are low value so that you have enough
time to do the few things that really
count you can't do everything
I urge you start living with this fact
you can't do everything you have to
start discriminating against lower
valued activities in order to clean up
your time and make time make room for
the higher valued activities as brian
says the rule you can get your time and
your life under control to the degree to
which you discontinue lower value
activities as Warren Buffett one of the
richest people in the world was once
asked his secret to success listen to
what he replied simple I just say no to
everything that is not absolutely vital
to me at the moment one of the most
powerful of all words and time
management is the word no I can't do
that I have something more important to
do you can't make me do something that
is not vitally important and also for
you to do something now you must
complete or stop doing something else
getting in requires getting out you
cannot get in if you don't get out from
somewhere else first you have to stop
doing something in order to start doing
something else picking up means putting
down you have to train yourself to be a
creative procrastinator and that means
is backed up thoughtfully and
deliberately deciding about the exact
things that you are not going to do
right now if ever and nothing is gonna
happen if you're not gonna ever do it
these low valued activities most people
focus on unconscious procrastination
meaning they procrastinate on thanks
without consciously procrastinating and
as a result what happens is they're
procrastinating on things that are
important big deals a big important task
and they're procrastinating on that and
as a result they don't accomplish what
they want to accomplish you have to
train yourself on proactive consciously
procrastination you procrastinate
deliberately because you understand that
this
our death activity is not going to get
me to my end result now homework for you
learn to think in the way of zero based
thinking which means and every part of
your life ask yourself continually if
you were not doing this yesterday would
you excited this today are you only
doing it because you did it yesterday is
this something you would have not
started again today knowing what you
know now it is the friend candidate for
abandonment or creative procrastination
when you understand that you're doing
something today only because you you
used to do it yesterday or the day
before you most probably can
procrastinate on that you don't have to
do it today
number two examine each of your personal
and work activities and evaluate it
based on your current situation select
at least one activity to abandon
immediately or at least deliberately put
it off until more important goals have
been achieved if you do that you're
gonna clean up some space you're gonna
move away some things that standing in
your way of accomplishing your most
important activities that will really
make a difference in order for you to
succeed
you're holding by principle number six
use the a b c ve method continually
before you begin your award on a list of
tasks take a moment to organize them by
value and priority so you can be sure of
working on your most important
activities the ABCDE method is a
powerful priority-setting technique that
you can use every single day
this technique is so simple and
effective that it can all by itself make
you one of the most efficient and
effective people in your field the power
of this technique lies in the simplicity
and here is how it works you start with
a list of everything you have to do for
the coming day think on paper write it
down you damn place a b c d or e next to
each item on your list before you begin
the first test and a of course is the
very important test this is the most
important thing that is in line with
your gold and lime with your success in
line with what you want to accomplish if
not done it will have the biggest
consequence on your goals and your
success beef is something you should do
if not done it will have mild
consequences C would be something that
it would be nice to do if not done would
have no consequences be something you
can delegate you can have somebody else
do it he tests that should be eliminated
it's not gonna get you to your goal and
of course if you have more than one a
task you should prioritize it by a 1 a 2
a 3 etc and so on so forth and each item
you a one task is the biggest most
important thing that you need to focus
first your ability to think through and
analyze your work list and determine you
a one task is the springboard to the
higher levels of accomplishment and your
greater self esteem self respect and
personal pride and of course now you
have your homework pick a list and
prioritize your tasks a b c b e as we
discussed and select your a and a1
projects that you're going to do and
practice the ABCDE method for the next
month and every worker every project
that you're going to do until you
develop a habit of setting and working
on your highest priority tasks and your
future will be a short
you
