within three days of starting my job in Chicago and I went to the Federation I said I'm here what's my job they looked at me like I was a little bit crazy but it's absolutely a true story because my father was so committed to the Jewish community Federation in Cleveland and to different agencies I thought that's what everybody did that's what I learned in my house so when I got to Chicago I showed up and said give me my job so they happen to have a dialect on that night and everyone's socializing some people are making a couple of calls I didn't know anybody so I took my stack of cards i sat there for an hour I called threw all my cards the evening was over and I said okay what time do you want me here tomorrow night honest story it's the absolute truth it was the beginning of my involvement in Federation so obviously because I was so passionate about it they got me involved very quickly I went on a leadership track at an extremely young age was brought onto the board of the jewish united fund of juf and it put me in positions with people that were great mentors and role models to me there were a year to five to ten years older than me and putting me in situations that really lifted me up and gave me people to look up to
