so much going on in the news here unfortunately a lot of it is bad here in israel today this sunday just several hours ago at the central bus station in jerusalem one of the guards there was I saw the video I can't get over I have the images in my head a guard was seriously wounded and you can see it on the on the video right now stabbed in the heart literally stabbed in the heart because he's Jewish that's why he was stabbed by a young 20-something year old jihadist - I just saw reports now told his friends on Facebook get ready I'm gonna be in the news in the days ahead just completely evil pure evil is what we're witnessing here today earlier this morning near the community of Tacoma and eastern gush etzion a nine year old girl suffering light wounds her younger brother suffering from trauma and a rock attack there you can see images of the car completely smashed up I mean that is what's happening here and people are going to say this is a result of Donald Trump making his declaration that the United States recognizes as radec recognizes Jerusalem rather as the capital of Israel I say this is an excuse I say this is not the reason this is just another excuse for our enemies here the jihadists to continue on their evil paths with their goal of destroying the State of Israel so here talking to us today about what happened today and also what happened the past week and the ramifications of the Trump declaration is Dan duiker good friend of the show he's the senior project director program to counter BDS and political warfare at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs Dan welcome back to Israel and censored here Land of Israel network at the Land of Israel calm good back on the program Josh if you can just comment on today's various terror attacks jihadist attacks you can also talk about Friday night's rocket attacks on southern Israel got that information right after Shabbat what what's going on here Dan we're seeing an upswing in jihadist terror in Israel you know Josh I think it even goes further than jihadist terror when we use the word jihadist terror it summons up images of of radical Islamic groups like Hamas like Hezbollah like the Iranian regime isis daesh but it even goes further than that it actually goes to the heart of the Palestinian Authority the Palestinian Authority has radicalized its population for years and years and years since it came into existence in 1995 and you know this is the major problem when these young people on the social networks talk about drawing media attention drawing Jewish blood they they have been radicalized by a Palestinian Authority leadership the so-called moderate leadership that won the Nobel Prize in nineteen nineteen ninety four when yasser arafat collected a nobel prize with robin in paris they have spent the last twenty four years inciting to murder radicalizing their population and so you know they need any any excuse in order to start rampaging and murdering Israelis and we've seen this before we've seen it in the you know the mini terror campaign of 2015 2016 this is the result of incitement to murder and radicalization messages that are being that are being conveyed by Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority leadership and I think that those are the people that must be held responsible not you know somehow Israel for receiving the recognition of the American people the American people have recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel which is a fact as clear as apple pie and Chevrolet are American and yet Israel pays the price when people's anger or the anger of the jihadis and the anger of the Muslim world is really directed at President Trump yeah it's unbelievable number one that you know this is a u.s. policy decision taken here just last week and yet Israel is unfortunately reaping the the anger and the hate and the incitement which you've seen now and it goes back as you said not only to 2015 now I'm gonna piggyback not only till not the last year in the year before or 2001 I mean we've been seeing this for a hundred years here in the Land of Israel you talk about the 1929 Chevron Massacre I mean it all comes down to incitement by the religious extremists and Simon by the leadership the movies they have been running the show and calling the shots and that's why we saw images today of 24 year old I believe terrorists stabbing a Jew not because of a declaration on Jerusalem well the problem Josh and many people in the West are unaware of this problem but that the northern Islamic movement that is based up in the northern triangle you know north of Haifa where there is a very large Israeli Arab population that is subjected to radical Islamic messages from from Sheik Ryad Sallah and the northern Islamic movement these are the fellow travelers of the Hamas that come out of the same type of Islamic Jihad and Muslim Brotherhood ideology and they have promoted this extraordinary campaign that we've seen since the second terror campaign the Tarun T fought of 2000 the al-aqsa Intifada and I use the word al-aqsa because it means the al-aqsa mosque up on the Temple Mount and and you and I both have have witnessed this campaign that is called al-aqsa is in danger now that campaign actually started and you mentioned it in the twin the late 20s and 30s by Haj Amin al-husseini the first religious leader of the Palestinian the local Palestinian movement and he used to demonize Jews even before we have a State of Israel that type of radical Islamic messaging has continued and continued you see by the way a reporter I don't know if it's known if you were noted this but it of you do decor not one of the main daily papers was viciously viciously attacked today in Israel in the Wadi ara Area which is where many of these Palestinians of citizens of Israel or Arab Israelis some of them refer to them this way some that way was attacked and and therefore the the the massive Islamic radicalization around the Temple Mount by these radical preachers is again goes to the root of the problem so well it's it's important for our friends in the United States and around the world to understand that it's not because Israel was recognized as having a Jewish capital in Jerusalem but it is radical Islamic messaging that has been going on for decades and decades and in Israel sort of lets it go and makes doob is because we focus on the physical terror more than the ideological terror in other words to put it from another perspective and I've talked about this a lot for those who still think this is about the settlements I mean I think Dan just explained how this has nothing to do with Israel's defensive six-day war of survival in 1967 and this has been going on for not only 50 years but 70 years and a hundred years and this is nothing new I mean though maybe they'll come up I saw over the weekend Hamas was calling this I think I don't know I think they're using the terms over and over again dan they're calling it the Jerusalem Intifada I mean maybe they'll refer to this as the Donald Trump Intifada I mean I just came up with that I don't know if you've heard of that but maybe they'll use that and let's keep rolling with it and it's frightening because of the images you see when when you know young Israeli guards are being stabbed literally stabbed in the heart and let's remember Josh and remind our listeners that it was Mahmoud Abbas himself the chairman of the Palestinian Authority that said about a year and a half ago that the Palestinians will fight until the last drop of blood for al-aqsa this is supposed to be the internationally sanctioned peace partner that Israel is supposed to create you know help create a sovereign Palestinian political entity with and it's it's simply absurd and that is why the Palestinians today are cornering themselves because what Donald what President Trump is saying you cannot continue to demonize Israel over and cancel and reject the fact that Jerusalem is a capital of Israel you can't pay your terrorists mister a bus and think that the United States is going to continue to pay for and subsidize your budget you cannot promote the boycott divestment and sanctions in the end the anti normalization movement and think that the United States is going to put up with it so this is a stern warning to the Palestinians unfortunately many people in the West eat very much so in in in large swaths of the Jewish community are still adhering to the PLO messaging as opposed to watching what's happening on the ground as the president and his advisors mr. Greenblatt mr. Kushner and ambassador Friedman have been watching very carefully for those who think that this is it some you know amateurish move by Donald J Trump this was an orchestrated a strategic move that was the result of months and months of discussions with the Arab Sunni world and pay attention that neither Jordan nor saudi arabia came out with scathing responses to the trump declaration recognizing Israel excuse me recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and that is the key to understanding what is really going on in the Arab world and why the Palestinians are furious at their Arab Sunni brethren because they accept what the Palestinians refused to accept so again just to clarify this point to the to the listeners out there why now why did Trump make this move now obviously you know this is 70 plus years in the making and it should have happened a long time ago with the establishment of the State of Israel why today President Donald Trump understood that if Israel is going to be called upon to be a partner in what the president has called the ultimate deal it is going the the United States is going to have to recognize what virtually every Israeli recognizes and that is that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and that Jerusalem is not for sale and that Jerusalem is not going to be again divided like Berlin was divided that is so clear to the vast majority of Israelis and therein lies the disconnect with Israel's brothers and sisters across the seas as people think that there's going to be some divided city and that the Palestinians are gonna move in to the eastern side of route 1 and then you know inviting Isis and inviting al-qaeda and inviting all the Salafist and the Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood militants and that is simply not going to happen so by announcing by declaring that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel it creates trust with the Israeli public with the Israeli government with there are our elected representatives and enables Israel to make additional land concessions if it's called upon to do that in certain areas of the West Bank that Israel could according to its current government possibly live with that itself is a very controversial debate Josh but that is what's being teed up here is that they want to foster trust in Israel by by correcting decades of injustice from the United States and and other and other Western governments to say that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel in order to give Israel create in the trust that Israel can become a part of this ultimate deal the real question is whether the Palestinians have any ability whatsoever to be a partner to this process my analysis would be no based on how we are observing their current political violent behavior my listeners definitely know Dan that you know I I personally am against all land concessions in any shape or form my listeners know that and I understand what you're saying in terms of the Trump administration possibly trying to win our trust an order for that to happen in the future I hope it does not lead to that I would like to see Jerusalem declared the capital by the United States administration as a matter of policy not as a means perhaps to try to soften a blow later on I hope it doesn't come to that but the last question before we go here just what can we expect in the days and weeks ahead following the Declaration and you know it's only been 72 hours or so since we've seen a I guess a spike in violence if you will and my listeners also know that I always talk about how the rocks are coming single day and is it isn't just in the last 24 hours of 48 hours and we've had Rockets time from time to time over the last several months it isn't just because or necessarily as a result of of this declaration but what can we expect here on the ground what's your prediction as to what's gonna happen in the days weeks and months ahead and let's all be safe at the end of the day absolutely let's all be safe and and I you know after working and and living here for almost 30 years I think that anyone who tries to predict what will go on in the unpredictable Middle East should not go to Las Vegas and play and play the craps tables but what what I think we can expect is a calming down is a calming of the situation especially if Saudi Arabia and Jordan Jarett Jordan josh is very much a quietly understands that it's vital interest in Jerusalem are being protected by the Trump declaration now it is true that Jordan is very concerned about restiveness of its palace large Palestinian population in Jordan and the Hashemite Kingdom is always frightened that it could be potentially you know not overthrown perhaps because there are too many other balancing problems that they have within Jordan like the Syrian refugee crisis like the former Iraqi refugee crisis all in Jordan but Jordan's interests as the custodian of the Muslim holy shrines in Jerusalem is protected by the Trump declaration and they know it very well that's what people don't talk about in the West at the end of the day the reason that Jerusalem will always stay in the hands of the Israelis and remember the president used the word status quo that was a signal to the Jordanians that its interests are being protected by Israel allowing the walk the Jordanian wafter to continue to control what goes on in the Temple Mount for Muslims and I think what we can expect is up uptick in violence downtick and violence and as long as the Netanyahu government plays it smartly and doesn't take any rash decisions things will calm down as the way they have in the past years and will continue to manage this situation and and protect Jerusalem for all Faith's which is the old it's the only possible way for all face is when israel is the security throwing attacks taking place the excuse blaming Israel because of a long overdue declaration by the president United States and the recognition by the u.s. of Jerusalem as Israel's capital not that we need the wreck neck recognition we know what our capital is but it helps in so many ways and as Dan mentioned the and Iker that the reason why Jordan and Saudi Arabia did not go crazy the arab sunnis in the area is because they recognized this reality and they know that Jordan in particular Jordan their interests are protected by Israel controlling Jerusalem and not who knows some type of Palestinian Authority or Hamas terror gang or who knows what they know it's in their interest for Jerusalem to be a United City under the State of Israel I want to thank Dan duiker again for that great interview other news related to what's going on here the IDF destroys a Gaza attack tunnel which it was crossing into Israeli territory times of Israel and really everybody here Sunday is reporting on this six weeks after blowing up another tunnel which was being built by Islamic Jihad with the goal of of course infiltrating Israeli communities in the Gaza border area the IDF announced that it has destroyed another one of these attack tunnels coming from the southern Gaza Strip entering Israeli territory the army announced today on Sunday the military said that the tear the tunnel was a kilometer long constructed by Hamas it began in HoN yunus that's in southern Gaza extended hundreds of meters inside Israeli territory this could have been a disaster should that tunnel have been used so Israel now pursuing these attack tunnels now the policy and building an underground detection system and everything I mean all goes back to the Gaza expulsion of ten thousand Jews that's we can thank that policy for this because without an IDF presence without an Israeli presence in Gaza we now have to worry about rockets and attack tunnels there were some rockets before let's not make that mistake but the increase by 500 percent the day is our left and in the years that followed and now we have to deal with underground tunnels these are band-aids we need these types of systems which can detect tunnels but but they are band-aids and ultimately Hamas we'll have to be destroyed the PA which Dan duiker mentioned as being the route in today's day and age the root cause of the incitement and the encouragement leading to these young people going out and trying to murder Jews the PAS got to go and perhaps one day we'll have a leader brave enough to realize that we don't have to worry about well if we destroy the PA something worse will come that mentality we can see where that's gotten us over the last several decades and again there's so much more we could cover today but but we're at a time I just want it there was one quote that I read in this morning's Jerusalem Post really summarized the mentality and the feeling and and the reality of the situation the Arabs protesting again the Trump decision that to recognize Israel's right to Jerusalem as its capital the demonstrators the other day I believe on Saturday were saying outside Damascus Gate erm in Jerusalem were saying the following not East and not West all of Jerusalem is Palestine so anybody thinks this has to do with wanting a capital in East Jerusalem or anybody thinks this has to do with an Israeli presence in Judea and Samaria I'll read it again not east not west all of Jerusalem is Palestine because that is what they are saying now publicly here we have an opportunity to actually hear what's on their minds and those who seek the destruction of the State of Israel it has nothing to do with Judea Samaria the so-called settlements I call thriving and beautiful Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria Israel's biblical and modern-day heartland it has to do with the fact that they want to destroy the entire country and they will fail they will fail but in the process we have to try to protect as many lives as possible so hats off to the IDF the security forces and everyone else who's working 24/7 I know a lot of army kids and they are just young kids who did not get off the Shabbat had to stay in on-base or out in the field because of this upswing if you want in this that's unfortunate that they had to and miss time with their families but we want to thank them and we want to we want to wish them only good things and they should stay safe and once again one last one last time prayers for Ashur Bentham are the security guard who was minding his own own business as one young jihadist evil evil person was taking off his jacket pretending he was about to go through into the bus station and then turned and took out his knife and stabbed a Sherman Tamar in the heart
