Introduction to Sefer Shemos; The Second Book.

The Ramban has a very famous safer Shemot. In his safer Shemot, he begins by saying that the first safer of the Torah, safer Bereishit, was the safer Yetzirah. Why is Bereishit called the safer Yetzirah? Because it talks about Bereishit Additionally, because it tells the story of the Avot. And really the story of the Avot is the story of creation. Because the Avot didn't just live a personal life. It was similar and everything that they lived ultimately would be the lives of the Jews in future generations. Once the safer Yetzirah was finished, now a new safer starts. And this is the beginning of the manifestation of all the of in Bereishit. So the Avot was Bereishit, the Banim where all those seeds that were planted start taking root and start blossoming and growing. That's what's going on over here in the beginning of safer Shemot. And really the whole safer Shemot deals with the Avot and it deals with the Avot. In the end of safer Shemot, the Ramban refers to safer Shemot as safer Avot. So in the world of the Ramban, safer Bereishit was safer Yetzirah. Safer Shemot is safer Avot. And really they're very very different Avot. They're from because safer Yetzirah is the Avot and safer Shemot is already the beginning of the similar Banim. Stating that the Netziv wrote Avot to safer Shemot in his Avot. And he begins by quoting the Bahag. The Bahag in his safer. So he gives names to the five Avot as well. So to us it's Bereishit, Shemot, Bamidbar, Devarim. The way the Bahag refers to it is he refers to the first safer as safer Bereishit like we have it. The second safer he calls Chamish Sheini or Chamish Sheini. The third is safer Avot. The fourth is Chamish Avot and the fifth is Mishneh Torah. This is the way the Bahag, one of the early has it. So it's Bereishit, Chamish Sheini or Chamish Sheini, safer Avot, Chamish Avot or Mishneh Torah. And then it says the obvious question. He said, why is it that only safer Shemot is referred to as the Chamish [snorts] Sheini? Either it should be the first, the second, the third, the fourth, and the fifth or they should all have names. Why isn't it that Bereishit has a name, Bamidbar, and Devarim have names, but for some reason Shemot doesn't have a name. The name of Shemot is just its number. Chronologically, it's the second book. It's the second fifth, right? It's the Chamish Sheini, the Chamish Sheini. So Netziv He believes the Bahag was coming to teach us a tremendous insight. And that is safer Bereishit is called safer Bereishit because it talks about the story of Bereishit. It talks about the story of creation like the Ramban already said in his Avot. It's the safer Yetzirah. But the truth is, the Yetzirah of the world, says the Netziv, did not end at the end of Bereishit. It didn't end in the end of Bereishit. The Avot Banim, yeah, that ended. The Bereishit the world the way we see it today, well, that ended on day six. That ended a very long time ago. But the Avot of the and the Avot of the Yetzirah, that did not end when we said in the end of Bereishit. That's something that's going to play itself out very much through safer Shemot. Because why did the create the world? Bereishit Avot Avot the second Chamish The world was created because of Avot. The world was created because of the Torah. The only reason created this world is because there would be a day that there would be a nation that would stand at the foot of Har Sinai they would say and Avot and they would be Avot and then would go AND WOULD BE ON THAT NATION. THAT IS THE WHOLE PURPOSE of creation. And that of creation didn't happen in Bereishit. That of creation is happening in Shemot. Says the Netziv, that's what the Bahag was coming to teach us. That safer Bereishit is the safer Yetzirah. It's the safer Avot and safer Shemot is part two. It's part two. It's not a whole another book. It's not a whole another story. It's part two of the story that was in Bereishit. It's a continuation of the safer Yetzirah. It's a continuation of the story of Bereishit Avot Avot because really the full meaning, the depth of that very very first in the book of Genesis hasn't been manifest yet. It's something that's going to play itself out right now in safer Shemot. It's going to play itself out when the are going to the Torah. And then there's going to be a where will be on them. That's when the story is going to play itself out. That is the story of safer Shemot. It's part two of the story of creation because this is the purpose of creation. And it's for that reason, it's for that reason, says the Bahag, it's for that reason says the Bahag that this safer is called Chamish Sheini. The is because it's part two. It's part two of the story of creation. Safer Shemot is begins with It begins in a very challenging place. But ultimately we're going to be the Torah in a couple of weeks. And ultimately we're going to become the Avot. We're going to be This is all part of the story of the Jewish people. It's the story of creation. It's the Chamish Sheini.
