I was at a hotel lounge and I ordered a soda
or a cup of cold water. It came with a slice
of lemon on the top. Is that an issue? The soda
is still fine. What I would do is I would just
remove the lemon and you could still drink the
soda. The lemon itself though is questionable
because a lemon we consider to be a Davar
Sharif, which means it's considered one of
those spicy strong flavored items. And since it
was cut with a knife of unknown kosher status,
even if the knife was clean, even if the knife
had not been used in more than 24 hours, if at one
time the knife was ever used for non-kosher, which
is possible, or went to a non- kosher dishwasher,
that would have an effect on the lemon and
it would make the lemon not kosher as well.
Therefore, you should not eat the lemon.
But you could just remove it from the cup.
It doesn't affect the drink. Even if someone
accidentally squeezed some of the juice in,
those few drops would be batul, they would
be nullified in the rest of the soda.
It would be best just to remove it right
away and then you could drink the soda.
