hello I'm Howard Klein Handler some of
you have seen my writings on this page
during the last six months but now it's
crunch time we're a week away from
election day
and it's time for you the voters to make
up your mind on who you're going to vote
for
we have as I've explained a once in a
lifetime practically opportunity this
election there are two vacant seats for
the assembly long time assemblyman
melona dancer no longer live in the
district and aren't running
and the Republicans have put up two
people from Wall Township that don't
know anything about Lakewood whom nobody
here knows
I on the other hand am a 25-year
resident
I I go through the daily life that you
go through
and here's why I think I deserve your
vote
first
I know that the big issue in Lakewood
today
is our high property taxes and I plan on
doing something about it the first day I
get to the assembly
number one we need to get more money to
our municipalities and the way to get
our money here is through consolidation
of school districts consolidation of
Municipal services so that we we can use
those savings
to enhance the money that remains in our
Township if the if the township has more
money then we don't have to raise taxes
on home loans
number two we've got to get more money
from Washington
for every one dollar we send to
Washington only 59 cents comes back to
New Jersey
Virginia for example gets a buck 55 for
every dollar they send we can't
subsidize other states any longer we
have to take care of ourselves
that's how we get more money to the
municipality less money out of your
pocket the homeowner
number two another big
part of of Mind mandate should you elect
me is going to be to find people work
Ocean County has an unemployment rate of
9.9 percent
the state the state in general is at 9.4
percent both way above the national
average and if you go to the neighboring
states New York or Pennsylvania their
unemployment rate is down to eight
percent
now why is that because the Republican
policies that we've seen the last couple
of years with this Administration just
have not worked while we may have a very
popular Governor his policies have not
worked and the reason for that is you
can't just cut your way to Prosperity we
have to invest in order to build up our
our worker base build up our business
space so that more Revenue comes into
New Jersey and more people want to hire
people that live in New Jersey now how
do we do that number one
entice businesses to come here through
tax abatements tax credit and Loan
guarantees we have 20 vacancies in our
strip malls we have a 25 vacancy in our
commercial space in North Jersey
that's unacceptable
and we can finish we can fix that and
remedy that with intelligent policy and
trend
instead of putting 400 million dollars
into Xanadu in North Jersey or pouring
hundreds more into into Atlantic City
two areas that don't generate any money
that aren't the decline
we're better served by putting that
money into clever ways to attract
businesses
that's number one number two we must
invest in infrastructure spending we do
that through federal grants and some
State money
but by doing that we create jobs we
create tracks Revenue we create buyers
that are going to come to our businesses
and we need good roads all of us just
saw what happened with Hurricane Irene
imagine if our roads are get further
deteriorated what's going to happen with
the next flood
and there are some Republicans who think
well the way to Prosperity is to dig
holes in the ground and Frack our way
with this oil business to Prosperity
well if we do that guess what's going to
happen the next time Hurricane Irene
comes you're not going to be pumping
water out of your basements you're going
to be pumping methane out of your
basements you're gonna have to go down
there in spacesuits in order to clean
out your basement that is not
intelligent planning that is not going
to bring prosperity to New Jersey we
need people to fix our roads we need
people to fix our bridges we need an
intelligent effective train system I've
always been a strong advocate of the mom
line and there's Federal money for that
Mom line there are billions of dollars
sitting in Washington somebody's got to
just knock on the door and say we want
it here in New Jersey and that is the
way we get people back to work
another way to get people back to work
is through sales tax holidays and I've
spoken about this before on these pages
you have a back to school season you
have a holiday season at the end of the
year you cut out all sales tax
for two weeks during each period and
you'll see how people from New York and
Philadelphia where they each pay over
eight percent in sales tax will come
flocking to our stores and that'll
generate booming business enhance
employment and and attract and increase
State revenues that's how it works right
now we are in a downward negative spiral
because all we're doing is cutting back
and cutting back less Revenue less
people and it feeds on itself and the
results are in the facts I don't care
how great a fan you are of this
Administration the numbers don't lie
unemployment is up our credit rating is
down our revenues are down our property
taxes are up those facts don't lie
so you don't need to be a rocket
scientist to understand
that the policies of cut with no
investment and no Revenue generation
doesn't work
finally let me explain to you that our
seniors and our poor are important to us
and we can't
take whatever Prosperity we have
and take it away from these these
elements of society we can't cut Jersey
care to the young couples who are just
getting married or the poor families who
can't afford insurance we can't cut back
and increase Medicaid deductibles for
elderly people
what's going to happen you're just going
to push more and more people into our
emergency rooms that are already very
crowded and guess what who pays the bill
for those emergency rooms at the end of
the day you and me so how are you saving
money you're better off getting these
people early care preventive care
so they don't have to run into an
emergency room when their condition is
far far worse and much much greater and
they require far more attention
help them really help them prevent we
save money
look
as I said at the outset
this is a once in a lifetime opportunity
every one of you have two votes
you get to vote for two assembly spots
even if you are a traditional Republican
you can still vote for one Republican
and you can still vote for me you know
it's not at all or nothing the ticket
can be split
now ask yourself the question
the Democrats are in control of both the
assembly and the Senate
they will retain that control every
expert says that because the
redistricting favors the Democrats
so even if you vote for one Republican
assemblyman
someone who's going to sit in the
minority what value is added by voting
for that second republican assemblyman
from Wall Township that's going to sit
in the minority
want to be better and smarter to at
least use that second vote for me so now
you have somebody in the Democratic
party who's going to be sitting in the
majority
and who's going to be able to bring a
bipartisan approach
to getting what's good for my good and
what's good for the district
think about it
look at it as somebody's coming to you
to invest in a business
you want to invest in this business and
another business
where are you gonna get the biggest bag
for your buck I say
put some of your money into me and you
get the best of both worlds because I
know what Lakewood needs I know what
it's like to live here I've raised my
family here I walk in the streets with
you I see the problems with the crime I
see the problems with with the poverty
levels here I think the problems with
education and I'm somebody you can trust
I'm with you on social policy I'm
pro-life and I support the defensive
Marriage Act which defines marriage as a
union between only a man and a woman
there's nothing to talk about on those
issues
and I've gone on the record on those
issues so it's not like you're going out
on a limb if you put your trust in me on
the contrary
I'm somebody who you know that if
there's an issue in Lakewood my address
is published not only in the phone book
but in the Lakewood directory and I'm
somebody you can count on so I'm asking
for your support this November 8th it's
an important election you've got to get
out to vote
and again I should Challenge and I will
cherish every single vote of confidence
in my candidacy and I can tell you one
thing you will not be disappointed if
you put your trust in me thank you
