goals and dreams we set for ourselves
and actually make them happen
good morning walkers and runners
hope your day is off to a great start if
you have gone
on your walk or run i hope you are
feeling energized and amazing
and if you haven't gone out yet what are
you waiting for get your shoes on
get out the door i want to share with
you
how we take the huge goals and dreams we
set for ourselves
and actually make them happen
you know people like to say if your
dreams don't scare you
they're not big enough and i have
realized personally like it's not enough
to say dream big i need a dream
huge but like how do we make that happen
because and you know some of you might
be feeling like i'm supposed to be
running a hundred miles but that
is way too much for me like i'm never
gonna be able to do that
i'm so not there so the secret
from going from zero to the huge goals
is breaking it down into micro steps
literally writing down every single step
of the way of what it's going to take
from where you are right now to where
you want to get to
and why is that so important let me
explain something to you
when you set a huge goal there is always
going to be
that little voice in the back of your
head
i like to say in hebrew the yetzer hara
the evil inclination that
stands in the way of any positive change
physical or spiritual that is going to
doubt you
that is going to make you feel like
you're not capable
it is going to make you stop and wonder
if you can get there
um those negative voices in your head so
let's say you say
i want to run a hundred miles you come
back from your
four mile run and you're very excited
and then there's that voice you think
you're gonna be able to run a hundred
miles
you'll never get there you only ran four
now what do you do with that well guess
what if you wrote down
every single step of the way what it's
going to take you
from getting to point zero where you are
now two hundred miles then you know
that right now you are doing
exactly what you need to be doing and
you can counter that voice and say yes
today i only ran four miles but guess
what
i'm right on track because i ran four
miles yesterday and i ran four miles
today
and i'm gonna get up and run four miles
tomorrow and every day it's getting
easier for me
and this is exactly where i want to be
on my path
to my 100 mile goal it could be training
for a marathon
it could be working your way up towards
a dream career
it could be becoming the kind of parent
or spouse you want to be
but whatever goal it is that you want to
achieve you need to have that
plan and it can't just be lofty and huge
and out there
the big goals need to be broken down
into baby steps
because then all you need to ask
yourself is
what am i doing in the next micro second
to get there and if you're doing that
then you're already
halfway there that's half the battle and
then
when the negative voices come up and you
feel insecure
and you wonder if you'll ever be able to
make it because we all have those doubts
and let's face it
we all have those negative voices
doesn't matter how successful you are
they come up the key is to be able to
counter them and say
yes i have a plan i've broken it down
into baby steps and i'm taking the steps
i need to take
to accomplish my big dreams and goals so
here's to all of us
making it 100 miles and more the first
of many 100 mile months
to conquering those big goals and dreams
and to recognizing
that even those huge lofty
almost unattainable goals are possible
when you break them down into the micro
steps
that need to be taken to get there happy
running happy walking
