I said, "Mitch Folkert." "No, there's nobody here." He said, "Why are you calling?" I said, "I'm a saxophone player. I'm looking for work." He said, "Okay." He said, "Well, do you play a lot of Jewish gigs?" I said, "No." He said, "Have you ever done a Jewish gig?" I said, "No." He said, "Are you even Jewish?" I said, "No." He said, "So, why are you calling us?" I said, "Because I need a job." So, he said, "Okay, well, tonight we're playing at Sha'arei Tzion. You just come, you know, on Ocean Parkway, come introduce yourself and we'll talk." So, I went to Sha'arei Tzion and I stood outside, I listened to the music, I was instantly in love. I really mean this. I love playing Jewish music. And the first time I heard it, I was hooked. So, I walked in at the end of their second set and introduced myself after listening the whole night outside. And I overheard some of the guys talking and saying, "Well, I'll see you tomorrow at Marina del Rey." "Okay, see you tomorrow at Marina del Rey." "Hey, Marina, hey, we're going to Marina del Rey." And I was like, "Okay, great." So, the next night I just put on a suit, took my saxophone, and I went to Marina del Rey.
