The Nazi Sign Atop Auschwitz

We are the people who walked into Auschwitz and on the signs in Auschwitz it says "Arbeit macht frei." Which typically historians will tell you that the Nazis put that sign there because they wanted it which means work will make you free. Arbeit macht frei. Work will make you free. So typically the historians will say YEAH THEY WERE TRYING TO pretend that it was just a work camp and not a death camp. Okay, but that's kind of a lazy explanation because like who are we fooling? There are corpses everywhere. I mean, we're not trying to pretend that I think there's a deeper explanation. The Nazis were trying to shove down and slap in our face. They were saying you believe that choosing your God makes you free? Wrong. We believe that work makes you free cuz work gets you money and money gets you pleasure and pleasure is when you're free and we will shove that ideology down your throat. Arbeit macht frei. Work makes you free. We reject that wholeheartedly. Work does not make you free. Choosing Hashem passionately, emotionally, religiously is what makes us free.
